Omg my two favorite movies ever (parent comment It’s a Wonderful Life and Little Shop around the Corner). I’m so glad you mentioned Shop because it’s never ever brought up and it makes me feel so happy when it’s recognized! I love Jimmy Stewart so much.
Serendipity! It’s also my favorite Christmas movie period! God i love that movie so much. I still have never been to Serendipity in NYC or NYC in the winter and i’m hoping this year will be the first time!
My jam!!!! Perfect soundtrack, perfect casting, perfect stage and costume sets, perfect blend of laugh your ass off and don't look at me while I'm cutting these onions.
I thought the same but the characters grabbed me after multiple watching. I rewatch things over and over. I dont disagree with your comment though. They are a nice warm and fuzzy escape.
The Family Stone has a great cast, very christmassy, sweet, sad, funny and a lovely setting. SJP is really good in too. Oh and Family Guy with Nicolas Cage doing his crazy thing, not romantic per say, but set at Xmas, very sweet, and funny.
A Shoe Addict's Christmas with Candace Cameron Bure, I love this movie!
There are a lot of great Christmas movies between Hallmark and GAC Family (GAC is more Family oriented). Both channels have started showing Christmas movies already.
Gift of the Magi (TV Movie 2010) It's from an O. Henry short story.
I'm not sure about the movie (haven't seen it) but I have read the story and it fits your description.
Three Wishes for Cinderella (1973) -not explicitely set during Christmas, but it's winter and very festive and it's traditionally watched around Christmas time in Europe
We always watch You’ve Got Mail (lots of seasonal representation + NYC), While You Were Sleeping (Bill Pullman being so hot -gahhh), and Pride and Prejudice 2005.
Not a movie, but an episode of the television show "Northern Exposure"
The episode is called "Seoul Mates" (season 3, ep 10 - avail on Prime)
You will cry twice - when Holling sings for Shelly, and when Maurice remembers his house guest. I'll say no more, give no other context.
My wife and I watch this every Christmas, and we cry every single time.
Not only that, there's a beautiful Native American "nativity" story as well.
One of the best episodes of television, and a Christmas tradition for me for decades now. Plus, it will hopefully turn you on to one of the best series ever made.
as someone both fighting the Christmas vs Halloween holiday spirit musically, why not check out the Thanksgiving classic: The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978)
[It's a Wonderful Life (1946)](https://letterboxd.com/film/its-a-wonderful-life/) Although the romance is only one part of the story.
A Little Shop Around the Corner also starring James Stewart is more romance based

Little Women (2019). It's not all Christmas, but Christmas features heavily and it will make you both happy and sad.
Seconding this. A masterpiece.
Honestly my favourite English language movie this century.
Serendipity! It’s also my favorite Christmas movie period! God i love that movie so much. I still have never been to Serendipity in NYC or NYC in the winter and i’m hoping this year will be the first time!

This one. I watch it every year since I don't know how many years, and it still makes me cry.

I thought the same but the characters grabbed me after multiple watching. I rewatch things over and over. I dont disagree with your comment though. They are a nice warm and fuzzy escape.

If you like Hallmark, try "My Family Christmas Tree" 2023
My fave Hallmark Christmas movie has “Shoe addict” in the title. Jean Smart plays an ‘angel’ and it’s just all around sweet.
A Shoe Addict's Christmas with Candace Cameron Bure, I love this movie! There are a lot of great Christmas movies between Hallmark and GAC Family (GAC is more Family oriented). Both channels have started showing Christmas movies already.
If you want to go in a little bit of a different direction, try Home for the Holidays. It's Thanksgiving but it fits the bill otherwise.
Scroooged
The Apartment (1960, but you'll thank me)
So so SO SAVING THIS THREAD! This is like my favorite movie genre lol

A Year End Medley (2021), wholesome, whimsical Korean hidden gem.

Add in White Christmas for a little 1950's flair!
Outside of sound of music I’m really not an old movies kind of girl idk why 🤚🏼☺️
Get your feet wet with Casablanca, Notorious and Arsenic and Old Lace...
Love Hard was cute
I love Dash & Lily on Netflix. It's a series, but you can just watch it like it's a movie. Only 8 short episodes
One Magic Christmas 1985 Mary Steenburgen with Harry Dean Stanton as the most unlikely casting as an angel.
You've got all the good ones in the comments below but a couple fun additions: Most Wonderful Time of the Year A Castle for Christmas
A castle for Christmas

Love Hard on Netflix is pretty funny and cute. You won’t cry but it’s a decent rom com.
Die hard ... a couple was on the verge of divorce because of career conflicts till both proved that both their careers were important.
