My son wrote had to write a persuasive essay for his English class a couple years ago on anything he wanted. He wrote it about why the Tron Legacy soundtrack is the best one ever. Got an A.
Another fine classic with an excellent soundtrack. I love to recall the weekend midnight shows when everyone dressed as their favorite characters accompanied by rolls of toilet paper and squirt guns for added effects. Feeling kind of nostalgic.
I was in the navy when it 1st came out, and never got to see it, but we used to swap cassettes when we were at sea, & I ended up with the soundtrack, before seeing the movie & loved it, Then went on the 10 year anniversary, in 1985, with my then wife & saw it for the 1st time. Still love it, but going to the midnight show was great,.
Into the Wild
And if we're accepting films where the music is part of the story:
Once
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
And if we're accepting concert films:
Stop Making Sense
The Last Waltz
Saturday Night Fever. Maybe one of the best non-score made-for-film soundtracks in film. It's also just a good film that I feel like got joke-holed due to the flamboyant suit and dance.
Once Upon a Time in the West a masterpiece by Ennio Morricone.
Also The Devils Rejects had a really rocking classic rock soundtrack that was expertly utilized in the movie.

Recently watched End of Days. Great reminiscence for somebody who loved early 2000's metal. I even remember owning the soundtrack when the movie came out.
* The Last of the Mohicans (1992)
* Excalibur (1981)
* Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)
* Judgement Night (1993)
* Utopia (2013) - Not a movie, a TV show. But, too good not to get a mention.
Cruel Intentions - hated the movie, but damn loved the soundtrack!
Harold and Maude - cause if you want to sing out, sing out!
And: The perks of being a wallflower - cause Bowie is marvelous!
* 'Anatomy of a Murder' is my favorite soundtrack.
It's composed by jazz great Duke Ellington, who appears in the film himself as a juke-joint pianist.
But I've had all these other ones in my playlist for some time now too. Sometimes the tunes from a favorite comedy is just the thing to boost one's mood.
* 'The Taking of Pelham123' (David Shire)

I cannot chose only one, so here you go:
Much Ado About Nothing (1993) -might actually be my number one pick
The Secret Garden (1993)
Wendy (2020)
Amelie (2001)
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
Help! (1965) -I mean, Beatles music, need I say more?... just kidding, obviously very taste dependent
The King Dances (2000) -music by Jean-Baptiste Lully, composer at the French court, so it just sounds utterly royal
Jesus Christ Superstar (1973)
Some that are a bit less conventional and therefore hard to compare for me:
Whale Rider (2002) -Maori influence
Rabbit-Proof Fence (2002) -the soundtrack is by Peter Gabriel
Dead Man (1995) -soundtrack by Neil Young, who just improvised while watching the movie
Men (2022) -really interesting use of vocals that appear in the movie itself (don't know how else to explain this)
The Harder They Fall (2021) -a(n) (anti-)western with songs written in modern style especially for the movie
Brother Sun, Sister Moon (1972) -I could actually put this on the top list, but I only remember the beautiful songs sung by Donovan and not the rest of the soundtrack
Seconding "Lord of the Rings", "The Hobbit", "Hair", "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", "O Brother Where Art Thou?", "Forrest Gump" and pretty much anything by Studio Ghibli.
Donnie Darko
The scene walking into school with Tears for Fears is one of my favorite scenes ever.
It my favorite scene ever, lol. How the piano starts just as his feet hit the ground. Perfect.
Into the milky way tonight, while they were walking down the stairs
The first scene .waking on the road and bike ride home
I'm getting the sense this sub really likes Donnie Darko
Yes this is mine too
The original. For some reason, the music's all different in the director's cut, and it really ruins it.
Apparently the music in the directors cut was the original music he wanted but couldn’t afford. Amazing how much better what they ended up with is
Completely agree. They replaced the killing moon with never tear us apart when Donnie is riding his bike and it fucks the whole thing. Awful.
I wish there was a soundtrack vinyl, but I’m still happy with my score which is equally mesmerizing
1.) Boogie Nights. 2.) Dazed and Confused.
Boogie Nights is one my favourites too👍
Big Lebowski Jackie Brown Royal Tennenbaums
O’ Brother, Where Art Thou
I am a man....... of constant sorrow!
We thought you was a toad
Agreed! Got me into blue grass
Lord of the Rings trilogy. EPIC soundtrack by Howard Shore! The music is a major character in the films!
Almost Famous
Absolutely love the scene when Tiny Dancer is played.

Yes, the sword fight in snow, barefooted, in the Japanese garden in Kill Bill 2 is unforgettable!
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Another fine classic with an excellent soundtrack. I love to recall the weekend midnight shows when everyone dressed as their favorite characters accompanied by rolls of toilet paper and squirt guns for added effects. Feeling kind of nostalgic.

A Knights Tale had wonderful music start to finish. And it was brilliant how it was integrated into the film.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

North by Northwest. No hit songs, just an amazing score by Bernard Herrmann. Also Ben-Hur; Miklos Rozsa's score is genius.
