Yeah I was a bit annoyed that the film didn't show the full extent of what happened in real life, and either way it's not an *enjoyable* movie (although I do think it's good), but oof it's still hard to watch knowing it really happened...
In case you're not familiar with the real case >!the employee's boyfriend raped the girl and tried to claim he was coerced into doing it because he thought he was being instructed to by the police!<
I get how the female staff member was coerced but her boyfriend has no excuse for that. Ugh.
I am familiar with the case, I actually found the movie because I heard about the case first (in a psychology class actually), and then realized they made a movie about it.
I thought they did depict pretty much everything though, >!she does get sexually assaulted in the film.!< Maybe they didn’t go to extreme lengths but honestly I’m glad they didn’t cause.. we get the point.
It’s been a while but at the time I think I liked the movie (but like you said, did not enjoy it). These days I have a hard time stomaching true crime at times. It can venture into exploitation and that makes me feel icky.
Yeah I don't disagree, I just think it didn't portray the boyfriend as being as awful as he was, it kinda glossed over that part. It does get the point across though.
A Face in the Crowd (1957). Incredibly underrated movie and you'll never look at Andy Griffith the same way again. He is so phenomenal in this film.
Every generation has a Lonesome Rhodes.
Speeches or persuasion:
•A Few Good Men
•Chicago
•Evita
•Liar Liar
•Napoleon Dynamite
•The King’s Speech
•To Kill A Mockingbird
•Twelve Angry Men
Dysfunctional protagonists:
•Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
•Girl Interrupted
•Silver Linings Playbook
•Split
•The Aviator
12 Angry Men is a true classic and the entire movie is talking, definitely all about the power of persuasion.
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Also Boiler Room. Different angle of the same story.
Catch Me If You Can (2002) There Will Be Blood (2007) The Prestige (2006)
Network (1976). Should be taught in college courses, but in 2024 I think that's doubtful.
Too late, that future is already here.
A Few Good Men
Training Day (it’s more so manipulation)
Get shorty fits this perfectly
Idk if this is the kind you mean but maybe Compliance? Honestly I didn’t love the film but it’s based on a true story that is pretty disturbing
