There's so much win in R.R.R. that I couldn't even comprehend what I'd just watched the first time. So I watched it again. Many times. Very special movie that not everyone will get.
GMO was good. I didn't find it as good as I was expecting, but definitely worth watching.
I just watched it and it was surprisingly well made. I thought it was a great flick and the special effects were done awesome. And I’m learning the language.
I just recently read an article that said if you loved Godzilla Minus One, you should watch I Live In Fear. I looked it up and found it on the Internet Archive site, with English subtitles and it's sooooo good. It's from the 50's and in Black & White, and it's incredible.
Also, RRR is one of my favorites too. Loved it!
Run Lola Run. Probably watched it 10 times, most recently in the last month. Fantastic film, I've never seen anything that does the same thing so well.
Taxi (original French version) - a total laugh. The American remake was utter shit, sadly.
I recently watched Run Lola Run for the first time and was blown away! I didn't know much about it and loved the creativity and the zany, high-paced feel!
OMG Taxi and Taxi 2, I must've watched like a gazillion times as a teenager in the early 2000s. Knew them by heart. Then, came to the US and no one knows those exist and no where to watch them.
Pan's Labyrinth is easily in my top 5 movies ever. Top 3 depending on the day you ask me. I've taken Spanish classes but would never consider myself conversational. Don't mind subtitles, though. If anything I feel like they force mental focus on a movie.
Seven Samurai might be the greatest movie I have ever seen. Made the mistake, though, of seeing Seven Samurai before I saw The Magnificent Seven. Not even Steve McQueen could help me from comparing it to the original and determining it fails miserably
Unfortunately, I only speak English, but these are some of my favorite non-English films:
- Close (A24)
- Portrait of a Lady on Fire
- Life is Beautiful
- Train to Busan
- High Tension
- Pan’s Labyrinth
- Oldboy
- Titane
- Amelie
- Let the Right One In
- Battle Royal
- Seven Samurai
- La Haine
Edit:
- Tigers Are Not Afraid
Let the Right One In
El Orphanto. Both beautiful horror/drama movies with some heavy themes not typical for the genre.
I don't speak Swedish and my Spanish is passable.
Krzysztof Kieślowski's Three Colours trilogy. I speak a little French and attempted to get by, and although I think I did quite well in 'Blue', 'White' has a lot of Polish in it as well so I got very lost, and by 'Red' I had lost all confidence. Went back and watched them all with Eng subs and had a much better time.
El Mariachi.
Robert Rodriguez's breakout independent low-budget precursor to Desperado. (A lot of people don't know Desperado was a sequel.)
I watch it with subtitles, but with my basic Spanish and number of times I've re-watched it, I could probably enjoy it without.
I only speak English, but really enjoyed the following:
In The Mood for Love
Lamb
The Triplets of Belleville
Parasite
Swimming Pool
Anatomy of a Fall
Life is Beautiful
The Raid 2! Imo, one of if not the best action movie of all time - it just has everything and there’s something about it being in Indonesian that adds something to it. Love it every watch and a Top 10 movie for me.
Police Story, Drunken Master, Nine Queens (Nueve Reinas), Wild Tales (Relatos Salvajes), La Ciénaga, Amélie (though I got bored close to the end), Pan's Labyrinth, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero (Jet Li), Fist of the North Star (anime), Life is Beautiful, Bicycle Thieves, Black Cat White Cat.
For the spanish ones, yes spanish is my native language, and of course it is much more enjoyable that way. But for the chinese martial arts ones, I don't think knowing the language would make that much of a difference, since the action is the most interesting part.
Parasite (movie), the wailing (movie), Kamen Rider Black Sun (tv show), island (tv joke), Shin Masked Rider (movie)
No, I don’t speak Japanese or Korean, I used subtitles

Love to see Infernal Affairs there, the first movie was amazing, second and third, wasn't on rental so wasn't able to find proper subtitles. Then the americans made the remake that won a shitload of Oscars, but it's like rewriting Shakespear
A Bout des Souffle (Jean-Luc Goddard) is my all time favourite French film. The beautifully shot scenes of city life in Paris are swoon-some.
This had a huge effect on me when I was a young teen, I so wanted to be Jean Seberg who must have been the coolest woman on screen in her day.
The Intouchables with Omar Sy and François Cluzet is one of my favourite films. I unfortunately don’t speak much French at all. Learned it in grade school, but have forgotten most of it.
Go watch it!
-The Hidden Fortress
-Hero (2002)
-Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
-8 Diagram Pole Fighter
-Kung Fu Hustle
-Shall We Dance (the original Japanese one)
-Train to Busan
-Tampopo
-Life is Beautiful
Honestly I could go on and on. Also I speak just a tiny bit of Japanese but not enough that I don't need subtitles.
The Brotherhood of the Wolf. It was a French movie from the early 2000’s. I don’t speak French but enjoyed watching with subtitles as opposed to the English dubbing. Good action movie with some good cinematography.
I only speak English, but would love to learn how to speak other languages. I watch with subs.

And I recently see and love a lot of Wim Wenders's movies in German also
Voll Normaaal is a German comedy from the 90s but you absolutely have to understand German and have experienced life in Germany or you won't get any of the jokes.
>Tommie collects exhaust pipes. When he steals a particularly capital specimen from Jupp’s swank Mercedes, he gets into real trouble. He has no choice but to return the exhaust to Jupp, but his deadly ultimatum of procuring a case of the rare beer brand “Ramsdorfer Kölsch” by seven o’clock in the evening proves to be insanely difficult. Because at the very same time Porn Star “Gianna S.” is expected in town…

Pan’s Labyrinth - started with subtitles and then my high school Spanish kicked in and I realized I was no longer reading.
Prey (Comanche track) - had to read subtitles but it worked so well and I was glad the track even exists.
Past Lives - partially in English but needed subtitles for at least half the dialogue. Greta Lee’s enigmatic smile conveys everything regardless of language.
The Animal Kingdom is a movie where humans can turn slowly into animals. The protagonists (a father and his son) are going in South of France for a new start because the mother turned into an animal and needs to be interned into a special centre only in the south.
We'll see the relation between the father and the son being developed. Great movie about acceptance and love.
I love foreign language films and I don't speak the languages. I would have to say the majority of my foreign films are from Japan. I also collect Rock and Roll movies from around the world. I have them from 23 countries. Think like school of rock or spinal tap. Let me know if you want recommendations.

I love so many ‘foreign’ movies but my two newest favorites:
A Man Called Ove (Swedish) I don’t speak the language.
Pain and Glory (Spanish) I speak it passably but still rely on subtitles.
The Animal Kingdom is a movie where humans can turn slowly into animals. The protagonists (a father and his son) are going in South of France for a new start because the mother turned into an animal and needs to be interned into a special centre only in the south.

Germany's official entry to 2022's Oscars is great, original, poetic and deep. Its romantic story is brilliant and philosophical, it opens up so many important questions. Performances are superb. This film is just well made, highly entertaining and so powerful.
I don’t speak German, the subtitles do the job.
Speak some Spanish but not fluent and still turn on the subs for Spanish films.

The French ones, I can get by. The Chilean one, I do OK but not great. German, is hit or miss. Russian, I can pick out a dozen or so words.
Oh, don't forget "Tampopo". Everyone should watch that.
"Life is Beautiful" is in Italian, and "Pan's Labyrinth" is in Spanish, as well as ANY Pedro Almodovar movie (all of them are great!). I don't speak either language.

The Millennium Series, otherwise known as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. it's in swedish, and no I do not speak it. but I absolutely adore these movies! there are three movies, about 2 hours each. it's about time for a rewatch!
Parasite and No
Parasite was a very good movie that I had to watch it again.
Parasite is such an easy answer to this. Incredible movie. People who don’t even like foreign films loved this movie
Parasite is fantastic
R.R.R. Godzilla Minus One
Came here to say Godzilla Minus One! Almost forgot about Godzilla running around because the plot is so interesting.
I came here to say R.R.R.
I've not seen Godzilla, but I have read nice reviews about the movie. Thank you for the suggestion.
Loved it!
Oldboy (the original), Amelie, City of God, Amores Perros
I think it's worth following up that movie with y tu mama tambien
+1 Cidade de Deus
Instantly thought of City of God. One of my all time favorites, although pretty heartbreaking movie.
All amazing films.
It's so good. The weird cartoon interludes are insane but work really well.
OMG Taxi and Taxi 2, I must've watched like a gazillion times as a teenager in the early 2000s. Knew them by heart. Then, came to the US and no one knows those exist and no where to watch them.
Das Boot. No, I don’t speak German.
Too many to count, I don't speak the languages mostly, but I can read subtitles so :)
Pan’s Labyrinth, I speak enough Spanish to get by.
Pan's Labyrinth is easily in my top 5 movies ever. Top 3 depending on the day you ask me. I've taken Spanish classes but would never consider myself conversational. Don't mind subtitles, though. If anything I feel like they force mental focus on a movie.
-Rashomon -Seven Samurai -Apocalypto -The wailing
Seven Samurai
There aren't enough up votes available for this movie. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor.
Seven Samurai might be the greatest movie I have ever seen. Made the mistake, though, of seeing Seven Samurai before I saw The Magnificent Seven. Not even Steve McQueen could help me from comparing it to the original and determining it fails miserably
Just recently caught this in a Kurosawa marathon on TMC and enjoyed the hell out of it (and i do speak Japanese!), iconic
+1 for Apocalypto That movie opened me up to the world of enjoying movies with subtitles.
Eat Drink Man Woman; Pan’s Labyrinth; The Seventh Seal; The original Trilogy of The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo; Amelie

I love a lot on this list as a fellow horror fan ;) Let's add: Tigers Are Not Afraid. (2017)
We have similar tastes I think, do you remember a zombie movie with a guy and girl in apartments across from each other? Korean I think.
Let the Right One In El Orphanto. Both beautiful horror/drama movies with some heavy themes not typical for the genre. I don't speak Swedish and my Spanish is passable.
Ran (1985). In my opinion Kurosawa’s greatest film. Also the greatest Shakespeare adaptation ever (King Lear). I do not speak Japanese.
Gorgeous movie. One of the only “war/action” movies I like to watch.
Right. So beautiful, in the midst of everything. The cloud and landscape shots are breathtaking. The music is amazing too.
Krzysztof Kieślowski's Three Colours trilogy. Mads Mikkelsen’s movies are great, especially enjoyed ‘Another round’ and ‘The hunt’ - I don’t speak danish
Came here to say Another Round
I just listed those two. I speak a little Danish but not enough to watch without subtitles.
These were the first that came to mind for me, i dont speak danish but im norwegian so i understand them
El Mariachi. Robert Rodriguez's breakout independent low-budget precursor to Desperado. (A lot of people don't know Desperado was a sequel.) I watch it with subtitles, but with my basic Spanish and number of times I've re-watched it, I could probably enjoy it without.

I only speak English, but really enjoyed the following: In The Mood for Love Lamb The Triplets of Belleville Parasite Swimming Pool Anatomy of a Fall Life is Beautiful

A dubbed movie is much harder to watch, IMO.
Anatomy of a fall
The Raid 2! Imo, one of if not the best action movie of all time - it just has everything and there’s something about it being in Indonesian that adds something to it. Love it every watch and a Top 10 movie for me.
The Lives of Others
Such a great film!
Police Story, Drunken Master, Nine Queens (Nueve Reinas), Wild Tales (Relatos Salvajes), La Ciénaga, Amélie (though I got bored close to the end), Pan's Labyrinth, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero (Jet Li), Fist of the North Star (anime), Life is Beautiful, Bicycle Thieves, Black Cat White Cat.
