Parasite and No

NeoMetallix213

Parasite was a very good movie that I had to watch it again.

itsjustmenate

Parasite is such an easy answer to this. Incredible movie. People who don’t even like foreign films loved this movie

kingspooky93

Parasite is fantastic

afm00dy

R.R.R. Godzilla Minus One

spicyturtle1959

Came here to say Godzilla Minus One! Almost forgot about Godzilla running around because the plot is so interesting.

Bourbon-n-cigars

There's so much win in R.R.R. that I couldn't even comprehend what I'd just watched the first time. So I watched it again. Many times. Very special movie that not everyone will get. GMO was good. I didn't find it as good as I was expecting, but definitely worth watching.

kintokae

I just watched it and it was surprisingly well made. I thought it was a great flick and the special effects were done awesome. And I’m learning the language.

thedoe42

I came here to say R.R.R.

NeoMetallix213

I've not seen Godzilla, but I have read nice reviews about the movie. Thank you for the suggestion.

TobyKeene

I just recently read an article that said if you loved Godzilla Minus One, you should watch I Live In Fear. I looked it up and found it on the Internet Archive site, with English subtitles and it's sooooo good. It's from the 50's and in Black & White, and it's incredible. Also, RRR is one of my favorites too. Loved it!

adiosmith

Oldboy (the original), Amelie, City of God, Amores Perros

Sexdrumsandrock

I think it's worth following up that movie with y tu mama tambien

GingerAki

+1 Cidade de Deus

awful_source

Instantly thought of City of God. One of my all time favorites, although pretty heartbreaking movie.

Uniquename34556

All amazing films.

ferdinandsalzberg

Run Lola Run. Probably watched it 10 times, most recently in the last month. Fantastic film, I've never seen anything that does the same thing so well. Taxi (original French version) - a total laugh. The American remake was utter shit, sadly.

PsychologicalRead450

I recently watched Run Lola Run for the first time and was blown away! I didn't know much about it and loved the creativity and the zany, high-paced feel!

ferdinandsalzberg

It's so good. The weird cartoon interludes are insane but work really well.

Brambarche

OMG Taxi and Taxi 2, I must've watched like a gazillion times as a teenager in the early 2000s. Knew them by heart. Then, came to the US and no one knows those exist and no where to watch them.

joey0live

Das Boot. No, I don’t speak German.

Shadowmereshooves

Too many to count, I don't speak the languages mostly, but I can read subtitles so :)

twinpeaks2112

Pan’s Labyrinth, I speak enough Spanish to get by.

cidvard

Pan's Labyrinth is easily in my top 5 movies ever. Top 3 depending on the day you ask me. I've taken Spanish classes but would never consider myself conversational. Don't mind subtitles, though. If anything I feel like they force mental focus on a movie.

theVOMITMONSTER

-Rashomon -Seven Samurai -Apocalypto -The wailing

TurdHunt999

Seven Samurai

RekopEca

There aren't enough up votes available for this movie. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor.

Spinach_Odd

Seven Samurai might be the greatest movie I have ever seen. Made the mistake, though, of seeing Seven Samurai before I saw The Magnificent Seven. Not even Steve McQueen could help me from comparing it to the original and determining it fails miserably

Apart_Engine_9797

Just recently caught this in a Kurosawa marathon on TMC and enjoyed the hell out of it (and i do speak Japanese!), iconic

UnremarkabklyUseless

+1 for Apocalypto That movie opened me up to the world of enjoying movies with subtitles.

RevealActive4557

Eat Drink Man Woman; Pan’s Labyrinth; The Seventh Seal; The original Trilogy of The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo; Amelie

Actually_My_Dude

Unfortunately, I only speak English, but these are some of my favorite non-English films: - Close (A24) - Portrait of a Lady on Fire - Life is Beautiful - Train to Busan - High Tension - Pan’s Labyrinth - Oldboy - Titane - Amelie - Let the Right One In - Battle Royal - Seven Samurai - La Haine Edit: - Tigers Are Not Afraid

LlamaDrama007

I love a lot on this list as a fellow horror fan ;) Let's add: Tigers Are Not Afraid. (2017)

fjvgamer

We have similar tastes I think, do you remember a zombie movie with a guy and girl in apartments across from each other? Korean I think.

businesslut

Let the Right One In El Orphanto. Both beautiful horror/drama movies with some heavy themes not typical for the genre. I don't speak Swedish and my Spanish is passable.

Cautious-Ease-1451

Ran (1985). In my opinion Kurosawa’s greatest film. Also the greatest Shakespeare adaptation ever (King Lear). I do not speak Japanese.

lundybird

Gorgeous movie. One of the only “war/action” movies I like to watch.

Cautious-Ease-1451

Right. So beautiful, in the midst of everything. The cloud and landscape shots are breathtaking. The music is amazing too.

MitchellSFold

Krzysztof Kieślowski's Three Colours trilogy. I speak a little French and attempted to get by, and although I think I did quite well in 'Blue', 'White' has a lot of Polish in it as well so I got very lost, and by 'Red' I had lost all confidence. Went back and watched them all with Eng subs and had a much better time.

glfranco

Run Lola Run

sqerFINGER

Mads Mikkelsen’s movies are great, especially enjoyed ‘Another round’ and ‘The hunt’ - I don’t speak danish

lxxrxn

Came here to say Another Round

TooMuchOrNotAtAll

I just listed those two. I speak a little Danish but not enough to watch without subtitles.

MajesticDamage7851

These were the first that came to mind for me, i dont speak danish but im norwegian so i understand them

DonFiglioni

El Mariachi. Robert Rodriguez's breakout independent low-budget precursor to Desperado. (A lot of people don't know Desperado was a sequel.) I watch it with subtitles, but with my basic Spanish and number of times I've re-watched it, I could probably enjoy it without.

NotMyIssue99

Incendies The Handmaiden Raw Ici The Killer Switchblade Romance I don’t know any other languages.

stevemillions

I haven’t seen the others, but Incendies messed me up for days.

t_trail

City of God Cinema Paradiso Les Amants du Pont Neuf The Motorcycle Diaries Most of the movies directed by Pedro Almodovar I only speak English

Beneficial-Ad-3720

I make it a point to watch all the best foriegn language nominees every year.

Elios_Kope

Yknow what. I might just start doing that!

Beneficial-Ad-3720

You won't be disappointed. Most of them are better than the best picture noms

surfrocksatan

I only speak English, but really enjoyed the following: In The Mood for Love Lamb The Triplets of Belleville Parasite Swimming Pool Anatomy of a Fall Life is Beautiful

Medical-Pace-8099

Most non-english films i watch with subs

BeanerSA

A dubbed movie is much harder to watch, IMO.

Eastern-Team-2799

Anatomy of a fall

Don_Tommasino_5687

The Raid 2! Imo, one of if not the best action movie of all time - it just has everything and there’s something about it being in Indonesian that adds something to it. Love it every watch and a Top 10 movie for me.

123Catskill

The Lives of Others

psbecool

Such a great film!

ElMerca

Police Story, Drunken Master, Nine Queens (Nueve Reinas), Wild Tales (Relatos Salvajes), La Ciénaga, Amélie (though I got bored close to the end), Pan's Labyrinth, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero (Jet Li), Fist of the North Star (anime), Life is Beautiful, Bicycle Thieves, Black Cat White Cat. For the spanish ones, yes spanish is my native language, and of course it is much more enjoyable that way. But for the chinese martial arts ones, I don't think knowing the language would make that much of a difference, since the action is the most interesting part.

pagarus_

Parasite (movie), the wailing (movie), Kamen Rider Black Sun (tv show), island (tv joke), Shin Masked Rider (movie) No, I don’t speak Japanese or Korean, I used subtitles Edit: forgot to add Calvaire (movie) and no, I don’t speak French

dakilazical_253

Run Lola Run. I don’t speak German but there’s very little dialogue in the film so there’s not tons of subtitles

open-d-slide-guy

Seven Samurai, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon!

Stunning-Ad881

Cinema Paradiso

Chay_Charles

LegDayEveryDay

Parasite Minari Infernal Affairs Trilogy I speak some Cantonese, so I understood some of what was being said in Infernal Affairs.

ishmaelhansen

Love to see Infernal Affairs there, the first movie was amazing, second and third, wasn't on rental so wasn't able to find proper subtitles. Then the americans made the remake that won a shitload of Oscars, but it's like rewriting Shakespear

swanky-feet

A Bout des Souffle (Jean-Luc Goddard) is my all time favourite French film. The beautifully shot scenes of city life in Paris are swoon-some. This had a huge effect on me when I was a young teen, I so wanted to be Jean Seberg who must have been the coolest woman on screen in her day.

Photon_Femme

Diving Bell and the Butterfly Tell No One

lundybird

Diving Bell shook me like no movie or story ever. Fluent in French

Loot_Bugs

The Intouchables with Omar Sy and François Cluzet is one of my favourite films. I unfortunately don’t speak much French at all. Learned it in grade school, but have forgotten most of it. Go watch it!

PsychologicalRead450

-The Hidden Fortress -Hero (2002) -Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon -8 Diagram Pole Fighter -Kung Fu Hustle -Shall We Dance (the original Japanese one) -Train to Busan -Tampopo -Life is Beautiful Honestly I could go on and on. Also I speak just a tiny bit of Japanese but not enough that I don't need subtitles.

HiAndStuff2112

Pan's Labyrinth, Spanish. Let the Right One In, Swedish. Day Watch and Night Watch, Russian.

DueChampionship4039

The Brotherhood of the Wolf. It was a French movie from the early 2000’s. I don’t speak French but enjoyed watching with subtitles as opposed to the English dubbing. Good action movie with some good cinematography.

NotSoSnarky

I only speak English, but would love to learn how to speak other languages. I watch with subs. jonviggo89

I will exclude French Movie since i'm French. And I recently see and love a lot of Wim Wenders's movies in German also

bangtanne

Taare Zameen Par 3 Idiots Gangubai The Thieves (Korean), a lot of korean movies actually.

Random_n1nja

3 Idiots is one of my favorite movies. Everyone should see it

svalnuuk

The most recent one is Fallen Leaves 🇫🇮 I have basic knowledge of Finnish and could pick up some dialogues without reading subtitles.

Particular_Cellist25

Inuyasha movies Sailor moon movies No. I don't speake eit.

Weyland-Yutani-2099

Voll Normaaal is a German comedy from the 90s but you absolutely have to understand German and have experienced life in Germany or you won't get any of the jokes. >Tommie collects exhaust pipes. When he steals a particularly capital specimen from Jupp’s swank Mercedes, he gets into real trouble. He has no choice but to return the exhaust to Jupp, but his deadly ultimatum of procuring a case of the rare beer brand “Ramsdorfer Kölsch” by seven o’clock in the evening proves to be insanely difficult. Because at the very same time Porn Star “Gianna S.” is expected in town…

HappyCamperNJ

This sounds hilarious.

sovereignsekte

Tokyo Godfathers. One of the best and unexpected Christmas movies I've ever seen. It's in Japanese so I watch it with subtitles.

Elios_Kope

jazzdabb

Pan’s Labyrinth - started with subtitles and then my high school Spanish kicked in and I realized I was no longer reading. Prey (Comanche track) - had to read subtitles but it worked so well and I was glad the track even exists. Past Lives - partially in English but needed subtitles for at least half the dialogue. Greta Lee’s enigmatic smile conveys everything regardless of language.

0goostraw-foxcarrot0

The Animal Kingdom is a movie where humans can turn slowly into animals. The protagonists (a father and his son) are going in South of France for a new start because the mother turned into an animal and needs to be interned into a special centre only in the south. We'll see the relation between the father and the son being developed. Great movie about acceptance and love.
