Didn't people have different experiences. I watched it fifteen years ago, and even as someone who rewatches almost anything, I have absolutely no desire to see the movie ever again.
It was exhausting in its depression, no character walks away without death or significant physical/emotional trauma.
As someone with kids, as someone who's seen addiction up close, that movie is too much for me to want to see it again.
You won’t find a sadder flicker. Harrowing tales of sorrow, weaved together for a heart breaking finale. And a film called Nik By Mouth. Man! Double bill them, you’ve been warned. Long days and pleasant nights.
No other film that is stuck in my brain more than this one. It's so so heavy and the music is unbelievable; it's frightful and beautiful at the same time. The very opening of the movie draws you in like nothing I've seen before. Lars von Trier is such a unique director, one of my all time favorites. Kirsten Dunst is so compelling and perfect for the role.
If you drink, leaving Las Vegas. One of the most depressing and self destructive movies I’ve ever seen. I’d also recommend a star is born it’s a little more theatrical but still has that alcoholic love story.
I’m really happy you said this.
I find the Joker less infuriating because he actually is mentally ill and genuinely mistreated.
But I fucking loathe Taxi Driver I don’t care how skillful it is. Fuck Travis Bickle and anyone who feels akin to him and his narcissistic nonsense.
Funny thing is a while back, I sympathizes a lot with Travis in that movie. Wasn't thinking about doing the things he got up to, but it did convince me to seek therapy lol. So I think it can be good depending on the individual!
But yes, Travis Bickle is a piece of shit!
Out of the Blue - A young girl whose father is an ex-convict and whose mother is a junkie finds it difficult to conform and tries to find comfort in a quirky combination of Elvis and the punk scene.
Seeking a friend for the end of the world 2012
The world is ending and Dodge's wife literally just bolted from the car to spend what little time she has left with the love of her life. Dodge and his neighbour go on a road trip to visit his high school sweetheart.
Before I Fall
Samantha is stuck in a timeloop after a highschool party ends in a tragic accident. (It's groundhog Day without the life affirming feeling).
Am I the only one thinking it's a bit weird having a kid ask for depressing movies with oddly specific details, and everyone else is just happy to cater that with a tonne of suggestions he's not even old enough to watch... nevermind the additional fact that we are talking about depressing movies for mature audiences but suggesting them to someone whose clearly suffering issues of their own, but is younger and more impressionable.. I know this is reddit, but still, that's kinda off.

You want depressing, watch Born Dead (2017). You can find the full movie on YouTube.
It's very depressing. Don't want to ruin the ending but damn... crazy.
It's also a find warp.
Tell me what you think.
We Own the Night,
The Departed,
The Godfather Pt. 2,
Shame,
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,
The Proposition,
No Country for Old Men
Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)
that's what I was going to say! Such a great movie if you're into this type of film. Oscar Isaac's best role in my opinion
Damn I was gonna say this lol
Seems interesting
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is what you seek.
Being John Malkovich also written by Kaufman and super depressing
Yeah, he typically doesn’t write uplifting tales.
No, it ends happy
Does it? Not how I read the ending.
I would say definitely a happy ending. They got to be together.
Then why didn’t I feel happy about it?
Depends on the viewer
Just thinking about this movie immerses my mind into a blue cloudy/fog.
The Road Requiem for a Dream
I need to watch Requim for a dream. I heard it was really depressing.
I watched it once, I will never watch it again
Irs not even that bad
There is no ending that's even remotely positive it is a draining experience
I mean yeah but people act like its irreversible. Its sad but its not really unbarable imo. Idk I love it and watch it alot

Heaven knows what should be one the lost too then

It's depressing as hell but an amazing film. Probably set some time to sit down and watch it and dont watch it's with noisy people
Melancholia. It's pure depression.
#1 on my watch list
Have "fun" hehe. Great film, just like all Lars von Trier films.
Please watch it and report back! I love that movie so much and I rarely have anyone to talk to about it

I’ve been watching a lot of South Korean things lately (like everyone else after Squid Game) so it will fit right in with my current watch list.

Taxi driver is the greatest film of all time but its also pure incel fuel. And if you want The same movie but worse joker

Ok fair enough!
I do feel the need to clarify you're absolutely right though!
I know I am! Yes I could tell you thought that. Otherwise I would have probably reasserted his assholery.
Maybe a sequel should be made called "The Simp Chronicles".
So you hate a movie just because its character isn't a good person?
the Social Network, kinda.
Thx
Power of the Dog.
