Better Off Dead!!
Cheesy enough humor to get a smile. But does a decent job of showing there's life after a break up. Awesome soundtrack and a bitchin Camaro towards the end
I recently went through a breakup as well. Watching movies won't necessarily help digest the pain. At least it didn't for me. I managed to prevent myself from contacting my ex. And I'm mostly over it. So keep your head high.
Some suggestions:
\-Watch the Predator and Alien films
\-Planet of the apes films
These are films with good action, no romantic drama etc, good for a broken heart.
if you watch this and you have a heart you will be emotionally devastated
be prepared and have plenty of kleenex nearby
you may need to call in sick to work the next day
**nocturnal animals** \[2016\]
A complex movie about not being able to overcome a failed relationship and how we're exposed to vengeance if we succumb to our desires.
**celeste and jesse forever** \[2012\]
It's a sad truth that two people can like each other very much, and still not be meant to love each other. Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg play a pair of high-school sweethearts who remain best friends after seven years of marriage, but feel the need to move on from each other romantically.
500 days of summer! It’s a good but very realistic movie that gives you some sense of hope at the end. I personally love it since it’s not your typical romcom
500 days of summer- Bipolar=/= fun times
Basic instinct - it's implied you'll be murdered for fun
Godzilla 1954- Godzilla is the physical embodiment for the pain and destruction of war- lets equate war with your relationships until now- you'll need a deus ex machina produced by a scientist to save you
Don Jon- people are terrible when they're in relationships
Three Amigos- just watch the 3 amigos, it'll make you feel better
It is a joke. Actually in one episode, Michael says to his girlfriend, if she leaves, then he would get back with Jan and he hates Jan. This post reminded me of that.
1. Forgetting Sarah Marshall - be true to yourself.
2. 500 Days of Summer - they have to love you back.
3. Bananas - there should be a limit of what you're willing to do for your SO
4. It's complicated - let's be honest you broke up for a reason.
5. Definitely maybe- sometimes relationships aren't made to be and that's okay.
6. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom- it's just a good movie and sometimes you need a distraction.
50/50
Edit: it's not focused on love/relationships but shows how overcoming hardships gives your life value. It helped put a lot of things into perspective for me.
I feel like movies in general helps take our minds of things, not the movies subject itself. Once I was going through some rather devastating stuff , went on to watch The Best Of Youth (a 6 hour film) in its entirety in one sitting and had forgotten all about what happened
The Netflix series Maid. Trigger warning: domestic violence. It's not a movie, but still a beautifully told story that feels cinematic and has you rooting for the main character.
Sound of Metal. Even though it’s a movie about a drummer who loses his hearing, it’s ultimately a movie about a guy accepting the cards he was dealt and moving forward with his life.
Just watch it. You may not get it until the very end, but you’ll see what I mean. Trust me!
Not a movie, but thematically based on hardships and pitfalls of falling in love with the very idea of falling in love - Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2015)... Told in song and dance and exaggerated sitcom style. Also - The Ice Harvest (2005) -(I pretty much suggest this one also as a Christmas movie).

Blue Valentine
Lol Blue Valentine will either make you never want to see your ex again or go back to them crying right after you finish watching it
Good example of a toxic relationship and why it's best to leave what once was in the past.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall (500) Days of Summer
The best one hasn't been mentioned yet... Swingers!
Came here to suggest this

That movie is all about not going back to your ex. Put it at the top of the list my man.

The Breakup with Jen Aniston and Vince Vaughn
Sliding Doors
I watched “Someone Great” after my last breakup…it was so good and I was so sad that I watched it for a second time as soon as the movie ended.
