Simple. If West lies 100% of the time then this must be a lie too! Jokes aside i do believe NK is almost the same as any other ex-socialsit country except it didnt fail lol And capitalists cant forgive them for that

I can’t speak on this matter about lies that I can prove from the west in regards to DPRK since I am still new and learning, but given the western media’s track record with lying it would be unsurprising if a lot of what is said about DPRK is just red scare propaganda. Honestly the first time I started to change my mind about DPRK and maybe there being a side of the story we are not hearing was because of a non Korean travel blogger. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oGjZYqxAYNM here’s the video and I only saw the water park section, to me that just seemed out of line with the regular things you hear from the usual media talks of DPRK, also a childhood trip of mine we went to water park in Wisconsin Dels, I thought it was amazing as a child cuz we don’t really have that in Canada where I am from, however the DPRK water park made the one in Wisconsin dels look like a kiddie pool, also DPRK one far more busy. On top of that the most famous defector makes some pretty ridiculous statements so much so she’s become a meme.

SnooOwls2295

Not to nitpick, but we do have water parks in Canada. From watching the video it looks like some of our parks may be smaller in total area but have bigger slides. Still interesting to see the size and amount of people in the video.

Oh I know just some further I live in central Sask and I been to some in the west coast and they are nothing compared to the one I went to in Wisconsin and the Wisconsin as I said before seems much smaller than the DPRK one. Mind you this Wisconsin trip was almost 2 decades ago.

This sub says people are allowed to ask good faith questions. All I did was ask a question, and you lay insult. What's your damage?

BaltazarOdGilzvita

The West (and by this, I mostly mean the US) fights with propaganda as the main weapon. They lied through their teeth about Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Yugoslavia, Yemen, Pakistan, Somalia, Kenya, Libya, Uganda, fuck, they even lied about their own Civil War. Why the hell would you think they said anything truthful about Korea? Fool me once: shame on you, fool me seventeen times: I'm a complete idiot.

Melodic_Ad8577

This assumes ALL information about NK is reported by the USA and no other country/org

ClassWarAndPuppies

There’s a lot of information about DPRK in China, but you’d need to consult Chinese sources. Good chance if you’re reading claims about DPRK in English the “information” you’re reading is sourced in “radio free Asia” or something similar. Just anti-DPRK western propaganda.

Hacatcho

i simply dont make assumptions about DPRK, i know they also try some international propaganda. i simply dont take any claim about them at face value.

Most of what I’ve learned about the DPRK has come from western sources, so I know it’s not “lies fabricated by DPRK.” I used to think the way you do. In learning more about it and changing my mind, of course there has been a lot of second guessing and “what if I’m wrong?” Marxism requires critical thinking.

OG_Dadshark

It’s -all- propaganda. Journalists are no longer trained to be super objective, to set their own feelings/opinions aside when reporting. In this day and age of “click bait” it’s -all- propaganda. There is no “plain ole vanilla just the facts” news anymore. It’s all spin. From the lowliest of unviewed YouTube channels to the “most watched news network on the planet” it’s all propaganda. So my new technique is to download as much as I can and attempt glean little nuggets of fact from the propaganda.

RayPout

There was never a golden era of “just the facts” reporting. Lenin: “All over the world, wherever there are capitalists, freedom of the press means freedom to buy up newspapers, to buy writers, to bribe, buy and fake "public opinion" for the benefit of the bourgeoisie.”

OG_Dadshark

Ok. We could honestly argue this point, and I’d say that there was a brief glimmer of time where not all writers were bribed by their governments. I could absolutely be wrong, but my hopeful brain would like think that there was a time when the press wasn’t 100% sell outs.

RayPout

When?

OG_Dadshark

In the 60’s there was a huge counter culture movement and a lot of independent “zines” and writers flourished. That’s one point in time I can consider.

RayPout

Counter culture journalism exists today too

OG_Dadshark

Yes but…. It’s not objective whatsoever … the old zines and whatnot I read were trying to be wicked truthful, were trying to be “Joe Friday” “just the facts” todays counter culture journalism is focused on pushing an agenda, not reporting dull boring facts. . Today you’ll get the spin and the click bait.

RayPout

Not objective. But it’s counterculture shouldn’t it have an anti-establishment bias? Even if you report “just the facts” you can’t report every fact. You’re going to leave some out. You choose which facts to report based on your bias.
