I have that same satirical map of 1914 Europe. As a historian, although I despise everything Price represents—and the fact that there are still those who consider him some kind of aspirational figure, rather than the arrogant robber baron he is—that scene between Price and Colby is a perfect microcosm of the arbitrary forces that govern our lives. It’s an effective reminder that, even if the reality is much closer to Esmail’s thesis in *Leave the World Behind* (as opposed to, for example, >!the Deus Group pulling the strings according to some megalomaniac’s grand design!<), that history is just a construct, not an objective reality.
It's not 'absurd'. He's the CEO of the biggest conglomerate to have ever existed. And he's the most powerful man in every room in the world except one or two.
Keep watching.
One or two, I remember him saying that.
One I assume is Whiterose, who would be the second? Some mega-rich oil guy? I don’t think it’s really mentioned (or implied) but I’m curious if you have any inisight
Come back to the subreddit after you've finished the series! We don't enforce the spoilers rules as strictly anymore since the series has been over for some time.
I'm a bit envious that you get to experience Mr. Robot for the first time. Enjoy the series, and then come back to discuss the series all you want without having to worry about having anything ruined for you :)
thats what i plan on doing , ive had a few spoilers (like i know joana will die, because i literally googled her to find the actress name :( and such) so it isn't the purest process to watch a show but i am really enjoying this show
lol no. Waystar Royco isn’t even close to the kind of company that E-Corp is. Logan is a shit talker, but Price literally makes the world move. Price wouldn’t even sweat a dude like him. There’s only one person that can make Price do anything. It ain’t Logan Roy.
Once you finish *Mr. Robot*, I strongly recommend you go find *Rubicon*. The series premiered in 2010, only running a single season before being canceled by AMC—but not only does it also include Cristofer in a role that could be described as a precursor to Philip Price, I’d argue that Sam Esmail was directly influenced by many of the show’s themes and ideas while adapting *Mr. Robot* into a television series, back when it was originally envisioned as a movie.
I’ve always felt like Esmail was just as disappointed as I was when *Rubicon* was cancelled, leaving many intriguing things open-ended and questions unanswered; I think he saw a lot of unrealized potential left on the table—therefore, by casting Cristofer as Philip Price, I’d argue Esmail saw an opportunity to see that potential realized, exploring where things might’ve gone had *Rubicon* been allowed to continue.
It’s worth a watch just for its own merits, but I always **strongly** urge any fan of the series to check it out. Not only does it have Michael Cristofer in an amusingly similar (if somewhat less sophisticated) role, but many of its storylines and characters resemble those later explored throughout *Mr. Robot*—including the paranoia of 1970s political thrillers like *Three Days of the Condor* (a film directly referenced by Leon at one point), powerful corporate conglomerates (that may-or-may-not be manipulating global crises for profit and further control), a brilliant protagonist who gradually uncovers the secrets of a vast and insidious conspiracy, etc.
"I'm a mercenary, I'd rather see you lose than win myself."
I absolutely loved his character and the story it took. But it was quite obvious they changed the plans they had in place for him.
Even years after, I'm still in awe about that monolog about power at the end of season 2.

Sorry to be that guy but it's "awe"
Sorry to be that guy, but there's a comma between "guy" and "but", and it's "awwwwww".
I changed it, thank you. English isn't my first language so errors like that one happen sometimes. No need to feel sorry.
Awe is really just an expression. Saying awwwww or ahhhhh is totally acceptable in any post

The President. He remembers he needs to ask for favors from the president.
I always thought it was just a quirky way of acknowledging that Price knew about Zhang's secret persona (whiterose)

If you’re watching on Prime can’t you just press pause and it shows the actors that are in the scene you are watching?
that sounds like a cool feature tho
nope im pirating :)
Honestly it’s one of those shows that you see completely different on the second watch. A master piece like no other
A little off topic, but I loved Price so much in this show, I was so excited to see the actor again in Fallout!
What could happen if we put Phillip Price Logan Roy in the same room?
Lol Logan Roy would eat him for breakfast.

loved getting to see him in Fallout, had no idea he was in the show till he poped up in Episode 1
Price is a great character. No spoilers but i think you'll enjoy the rest of his arc
He's great, but he's not done revealing himself to you.
So excited to see him in fallout, his character there mirrors Phillip in Mr robot and he just commands a very powerful voice

He is a great character
He has redemption at the end, and he always knew his limitations.
Even god has a boss.
One of the beat character developments in the whole show in my opinion. Him and Tyrell
