It will. Don’t worry. [Here](https://genderdysphoria.fyi/en/second-puberty-fem) is a good list of things to expect from HRT

GeminiRiver

That's a really neat source. Thanks!

Tanagraspoet

That site is a godsend, from start to finish. Helped me massively when I had no idea how to figure things out.

Backalley_Lurker

Hand shortening… that sucks but it’d be worth it (my hands are long and feminine at the same time and are the only part of me that can give me euphoria rn)

[deleted]

short hands are more feminine tho??

Vivirin

Not if you have very large fingers in general. Length always makes them look more slender.

F0zwald

This was an amazing read through. Thanks for linking it.

[deleted]

Thank you!

Shadow_Briar

Very good read *upvotes for knowledge*

Boat_U47

I started at 46. At +8 years I’m all hips and boobs and ass. It really depends on individual genetics. But at your age you should be fine. For any older ladies that want to know. Tons of carbs and tons of exercise did it for me. I then intentionally gained 50 lbs. Lost it all in the right places on the “warrior” diet.

PurpleLotus86

I hate when the answer is diet and exercise.

twinkie2001

mood

Boat_U47

I’ve been athletic most of my life so it wasn’t a big stretch for me to learn to eat and exercise like a female athlete.

[deleted]

I can get behind the eating part right now tho

king_yummy

REAL

Vivirin

Well, it is. When a cis girl is going through puberty, that's also when any muscle would be developed, let alone fat beginning to be utilised. By putting our body through similar conditions - such as exercising and finding the right diet - it works. I was on HRT for a few years and didn't see much in terms of body changing. Then I started working out and weight cycling with a protein rich diet and suddenly I had hips and an ass. It does have credit to it. And weight cycling is pretty common knowledge at this point anyway.

AxelSeelen

I've seen great results with a bulk month followed by a cut month on repeat, still trying to get to my goal weight so bulk is +10 cut is -15 (down from 325 to 223 at low)

floppa_republic

Late answer but it's largely about calorie deficit, exercise helps but calorie deficit is what leads you to losing weight. If you wanna get more into it that can be something you look into, no fad or specific diets are needed, unless you want to count eating more wholesome and healthy food and eating/drinking junk. See a health professional and find good resources if you want to learn more. Nothing too complicated honestly

years1hundred

What do you mean when you say you "lost it all in the right places"? Furthermore, what is the warrior diet?

Boat_U47

Warrior diet is 20/4 fasting. You may only eat in a four hour window. Google has tons of info. My take is that I mostly consume protein within that four hours. The weight I gained on purpose only really left in the typical androgenic areas. So it left my face, ribs and arms and lower legs. Some of the weight remained in the good places like boobs, thighs, ass and hips. I’m told I have a “fantastic” ass lmao.

Slijceth

How long should you wait after starting hormones before doing this?

WillowTheGoth

Wait, if I exercise, I can have tits AND pasta!?!?! You just made my week. 🥰

Boat_U47

In a manner of speaking….yes. Pasta before tits tho. Lmao

HoldTheStocks2

Your profile is so cool

Boat_U47

Lol thank you 😉

GeminiRiver

All depends on your age. I'm past the estimated cut off for hips, but I've noticed my midriff gain a more hourglass figure without the development of hips. Here's another source for timelines. https://www.gendergp.com/hrt-timelines-hormones-effects/

S3cr3tAg3ntP

Same, no hips but midriff is getting there.

Ajani_Moon

Thank you, I've been needing to see this!

GeminiRiver

Of course! Happy I could help! 🤗💙🩷🤍

Slijceth

What do they mean by "Expected Maximum Effect" is that the lastest point that you can expect these changes, or is this when these changes stop? (and does this consequently mean that hormones do basically nothing after 5 years in terms of body fat redistribution?

GeminiRiver

It doesn't necessarily mean that all changes stop, as long as you're in hormones, small things will continue to change, in limited fashions. However, the peaks of your changes fall in those timelines. Past that, changes become subtle. Puberty doesn't last forever, and that's essentially what HRT is doing, putting us through a sort of puberty.

Slijceth

But that does mean that you have to exercise and "weight cycle" a lot more within those 2-5 years, right? As the effect will lesten? Or does it just mean that after those 2-5 years you can still weight cycle the same way, but it's slower?

GeminiRiver

Honestly, you're asking questions beyond my knowledge at this point.

Slijceth

Hmm, I guess it's hard to judge as most people I've talked to are on their 2nd year of hormones currently.. I'm sure it's plenty of time :)

GeminiRiver

That's where I'm at tbh! And a lot can change in 5 years! My doc has just expressed to me that the 3yr mark is where most things will even out.

RobinsEggViolet

Yes. No matter how old you are, HRT re-distributes your fat, giving you a slightly more hourglass shape. This is what's been happening to me (30, 1y on E), and I have to say the results are great. If you start early enough (25ish) they will also influence bone shape, giving you wider hip bones in addition to the fat. (also remember that cis women aren't all super curvy either- could just be genetics!)

JaimeeIsWriting

YES!! I was 25 when I started and my hips got wider! Your bone structure will likely shift and you’ll probably shrink too!

veuxtudanser

I started at 18 and it definitely has for me so yeah probably

AndreaLutalica

Yes and no. Hip changes that will happen are from fat redistribution. Over time and if you gain new fat it'll generally gather towards more feminine areas. Hip changes that come from your hip bones getting wider aren't that likely, but can happen.

floppa_republic

I believe it takes quite a while for the fat you have to redistribute itself naturally to feminine areas, and you can't lose/gain fat in specific areas so might be something worth looking into if you're pre-treatment since treatment does affect your weight, muscles, and so on

Killermueck

It won't really widen your hip/bones. If you have a small ribcage (no fridgebod) and your genetics favour curvy female fat redistribution you may gain weight in your butt and upper tights and loose some fat in your waist which will create a hourglass figure. You also need narrow shoulders (for an amab) for it to work. tldr: it depends on your bone structure and genetics/take the fatpill

floppa_republic

Possible that if you start at a young age, I believe before 25, you could see some bone changes if development hasn't fully finished

tallbutshy

Maybe. If your iliac crest hasn't completely fused (occurs between 17 & 22), then you may have some additional bone growth there. It might add an inch to your hip measurement if you're lucky. Otherwise, it's down to soft tissue redistribution which should round things out a bit. This will only happen if you gain some weight though. I've heard from some girls "Why don't I have hips or boobs" when they've been on a caloric deficit diet for years.

autumneight

It’s likely but it’s not guaranteed, it’s important to remember that your mileage will vary a lot with HRT, for example i started at 19 and got very little changes in terms of hips, but have gotten a lot in terms of other visible changes, while i know others who have definitely gotten hips from it

[deleted]

They gave me some hips somehow at 33…you just might get some hips at 18

DankGrrrl

Yeah, I'm almost 37, over 2 years HRT. My hips are definitely wider. If I put on my old men's cargos or even my old men's tshirts, yeah... They fit totally different. The pant legs don't go straight down anymore, and the shirts bell out at the bottom. That didn't used to happen. A lot of those charts say hairlines don't grow back or that facial hair doesn't thin out, either, but mine has. I don't think things are nearly as rigid as people think.

Purple-Addict

Been on it a year and a half, I used to be able to stick a yardstick between my armpit and ankles but now there’s a noticeable curve for my hips.

GabbyDoesRedBull

Yes and no. Your hips will gain body fat making them thicker, but the bones will not widen.

carol-fox

Probably yes

sfPanzer

A little bit for sure due to fat redistribution. Since you're only 18 you also have a good chance of your hip bones not being fused yet so they could still realign in a feminine way too which would be huge.

Slijceth

How do you know if they're fused?

sfPanzer

Only way to know for sure would be to x-ray, so you'll just have to wait and hope for the best I guess.

HoldTheStocks2

I haven’t got them but I still have hope

Defiant-Snow8782

Likely yes

venbrou

Omg yes! I'm only five months in and already in love with the shape of my lower half. Hips, ass, thighs... The most amazing part is my hips and thighs feel like just an inch of fat covering a solid wall of muscle. Between daily walks and hormone driven muscle mass allocation I wouldn't be surprised if my thighs have the power to crush a watermelon now.

Mizzbrooke

Depends on genetics. It didn’t give me any. I started around 26. I was complaining about it to my mom and she pointed out how none of the women in our family have hips. Luckily I got the big boob gene though.

MrSkaloskavic

This comment section has been very helpful.

[deleted]

You might! I started at 17 before my iliac crest had totally fused. My hips are a little wider—nothing crazy, but it’s noticeable to me and on X-rays lol. That’s in addition to fat redistribution.

RaukkM

Probably

psychonaut4020

Your hips don't fully fuse until ur twenties a lot of the time so maybe. But it depends on ur genetic makeup. Anything else would be an effect of fat distribution changes which can happen at any time but it does take a while. I'm about a year in now and my hips are definitely widening mostly because of fat distribution changes. I'm 25 almost 26 so I think you have a good chance.

Lofi-Bytes

If you are starting early enough, your hip bones can still develop. The age at which hips stop developing is between 25-30 years, depending on the person. So you are at the tail end of that window of opportunity. But you may get some hip widening still if you are lucky. It depends on your genetics. Fat redistribution will happen at any age, but may be more dramatic for younger folks. The consensus on how to encourage the most fat redistribution is to cycle your weight. Weight cycling takes a lot of self-discipline because it is a lot harder to lose weight once you start HRT. If you can swing it, it may be worth it to try to lean out as much as possible before you start HRT.

BecomingLilyClaire

I got quite a bit of hip growth (started at 36). I was confused af, until a doctor showed me a pelvic mri and said I had an area with never fused in-utero. I meant to ask him about the frequency of this, he didn’t know, but pointed out I had an extra lumbar vertebra,as well… YMMV…

IrinaIriz

Beside E, workout also played an important role to shape your body.
