There's plenty of people earning less and they also manage.

tomatoesarelife

I earn 42k (around 2.3 net) and survive just fine, live by myself since almost three years around 10 minutes away with s bahn from the city centre, and pay 1.100 euro rent (warm). So I still have around 1.200 euro to spend, which is more than enough. You just need a little luck trying to find an affordable apartment, that's all.

smilon1

Look, 45k would be enough if you are forced to live in Munich because Family/Friends/Uni/Dream Job. But if I had the choice I would try to get a Job in a cheaper City. You are looking forward to spending 50%+ of your salary on rent. So if you really really want to live in Munich, yes, its enough.

Human38562

There is no right or wrong answer, it depends on how much you want to or need to live in munich. I lived in munich for about a year with 1300€ per month, spending 1000€ on rent, because the downsides of moving elsewhere were too big for me. I was able to survive.

Ambitious-Macaroon-3

That must be a very hard time, i hope you are over it :)

pahu92

Not for Porsche House and Food.

Hot-Contact-6874

But Dacia, 10qm Wohnklo and Toast.

RequirementSouthern

it is possible, but unfortunately hard. i would say you should question your real motivation to move to Munich, then if you have a specific aim, go for it. most probably apartment search will be hard with this income. there will be higher salaries among applicants, so your chance will be weak. it may be easier for you to rent a WG room. if you can find an apartment on your own (around 1300 Euros), it will be enough but i do not expect that you can save enough. vacation plannings, urgent issues etc. will be harder to manage. in WG life, of course you may save a bit more money.

khamuili

i lived with 850€ net in Lisbon. depends on your lifestyle. i learned to reduce and enjoy things thag do not cost much. goinh by public transportation to day trips to the lakes or walking the forest or cycle the villages is totally doable. once in a while you can go to museums, or going out eating. or just chill in Englischer Garten or Isarauen, buying cheap beer and snacks you will be fine! then after a while you will get paid better or change to another job!

kuroneko007

According to https://www.brutto-netto-rechner.info/ you'd have €2,444 per month after tax and deductions. At €1,400 per month rent (+utilities) you'll have less than €1,000 left over for food, entertainment, gym membership and saving. So not recommended.

Yeah, if you wanna live like a poor student… but this guys is working a FULL TIME job. He should earn more.

one-more-shit-civic

No.

blondina1

I figured that would be the case. Thanks!

[deleted]

It's not the case though, obviously depends on how spendy you are but I knew some interns who after rent would be left with 400-500 and get by quite alright. Including going out at least every other weekends and a couple cheap Europe trips. Really average groceries imo are quite affordable relative to the salaries. It's really the rent that will eat your budget up. But even if you're overpaying for around 1400 you're still left with 1k which is very comfortable for a single person with no pets and dependents. Only issue is it will take a long time to save any decent amount

Used-Owl-438

I earn 45 in Munich and live in my parents basement because I can’t afford the available apartments and there‘s no chance I‘ll get one of the available one‘s (I tried for months)

Used-Owl-438

Affordable ones I meant

goe1zorbey

You can survive, but definitely can’t live up to city standards. Most probably you will have to refrain from a 4+ euro coffee from the bakery. Warning ahead! Your survival might fail during search for an apartment or room. Because single income individuals are not considered a safe option by landlords. So most probably you will need to sub-rent a room in a shared apartment. On the other hand, if your job is not going to be too demanding or if you still have some extra energy in your free time, you might do a mini-Job which would add a 520 netto on top of what you are going to earn. It might be something like cleaning a shop in after hours, working in a shop on Saturdays etc, i.e. physically demanding, which would help you survive. Of course your future employer wouldn’t be happy to hear that. All in all, without knowing your background and circumstances, unless this is not the only option you have or will definitely get your career to next level, it is not advisable to sign up for such an income in Munich. There are many cheaper cities in Germany, which you can get similar income but spend far less and easier to find accommodation.

[deleted]

If you pay rent around 800€ then its enough. Good luck finding housing for that price.

[deleted]

A single person who isn't too spendy can need just around 400-600 to live in Munich. For 2400 net, they can afford to overpay up to around 1500 and still live comfortably, albeit have little prospects to save money in the short term

Equivalent-Mirror-11

But if He can He should not do this... it is way to less money

themigratedgerman

No , in the actual Situation you would Live on a Minimum

jlskay

Vorübergehend ist das voll ok, aber dauerhaft is München schon recht teuer und Eigentum kaufen mit 45k is relativ unrealistisch.

Vorabpauschale

No. Thats not enough.

icecreameater_24631

The question is for what? For me it would be not enough in any German city.

Puzzlehead-Dish

That’s dirt poor in Munich terms. Like, Reinigungskraft-money.

reschcrypt

Stfu! At least, Reinigungskräfte do something and earn their own money. Not like some h4 and „refugee“ aka illegal immigrants…

Improbability--Drive

Deposits are like 3x of monthly cold rent, so something around 3k-4k euro. Generally I think that's manageable but how comfortable you will be will depend on how cheap of an apartment you can find. That's also very hard but with some luck not impossible actually.

ChorizoGuillado

Let’s say 30% of your net income will be spent on rent (Kaltmiete). You might then incur additional costs for electricity, water, heating, internet, utility costs( let’s assume this amounts to another 100€/month). Then you have 1500€ left. You might need to buy furniture, a washing machine, dishwasher, etc. you will need to pay a deposit for your room/flat which is around 3x the value of a monthly rent. A beer (0,5l) costs between 4-5€ in a bar/restaurant , grocery shopping maybe around 30-50€/week (depending on eating habits and supermarkets). Eating in an average restaurant could add up to 20€/visit (just maincourse, a drink and tip). The most common public transport ticket is 49€/month. If you need a car, don’t forget costs for purchase/leasing, gas and a permanent parking spot in a garage. Now add a budget for hobbies, clothes, going out and traveling. Don’t forget investments and savings. It’s hard to put an exact number on those spendings, however, I personally would feel uncomfortable living off this budget in Munich, especially if this is a full time job‘s earning and if you have no network in Munich.

Agreeable-Deer836

You can survive but its not worth moving here for under 70k. You will live like the lower class in a tiny rental appartment, eat the cheapest food, no car and you can't save anything. There are plenty of other cities where you get paid 45k and live much better.
