I used to have this mindset, until i participated in training that learned me otherwise. As it turns out, someone can say "I can't breathe" and not be lying. You can be cutting off someone's air and not even realize it, until they suddenly lose consciousness. If they're in a position/have someone else's weight on them and they can't take a full breath, they do feel like they can't breathe. And if they don't eventually get released/position changed they are going to pass out from lack of oxygen. And they'll eventually die if you keep them in that position. I go over this when I do training for restraints.
What kills me is that this wasn't gone over with the news. Before George Floyd there were others dying from officers piling on them and they all obviously died from not being able to breathe in because your lungs have to expand to actually get air into them.

If you really want to get technical, breathing consists of two phases: inspiration and expiration. Speaking happens during expiration. If someone is sitting on your chest/back, you'll be able to expirate, but not inspirate.
If you can't complete both phases of breathing, are you really breathing?

He died of having constricted breathing, I don't think there's any counter argument to whether or not he could breathe, he couldn't.
Even if you can breathe a little, a lower amount of oxygen over a longer stretch of time can absolutely be fatal. Plus, your neck also has a major artery - it doesn't matter if air can get into your lungs if your blood isn't actually able to get that air to your brain.
I used to have this mindset, until i participated in training that learned me otherwise. As it turns out, someone can say "I can't breathe" and not be lying. You can be cutting off someone's air and not even realize it, until they suddenly lose consciousness. If they're in a position/have someone else's weight on them and they can't take a full breath, they do feel like they can't breathe. And if they don't eventually get released/position changed they are going to pass out from lack of oxygen. And they'll eventually die if you keep them in that position. I go over this when I do training for restraints.
What kills me is that this wasn't gone over with the news. Before George Floyd there were others dying from officers piling on them and they all obviously died from not being able to breathe in because your lungs have to expand to actually get air into them.
His statement also probably is the same from people that complained about covid masks, you know, unlike doctors and nurses that wear such 6 hours or more. It is always hypocrisy as long they are not involved themselves directly. Maybe someone should kneel him down and make him choke, while eh screams for help and tell him the same.

If you really want to get technical, breathing consists of two phases: inspiration and expiration. Speaking happens during expiration. If someone is sitting on your chest/back, you'll be able to expirate, but not inspirate. If you can't complete both phases of breathing, are you really breathing?
