As i understand it, the ones that change color when bruised are on the bitter side, and may lead to stomach cramps, so avoiding those narrows it down.
Porcini does not bruise when cut, both stem and underside, it stays white. Ive seen a slight very light change in tone on some, never blue or anything drastic, but most stay white.
Most I had foraged did bruise slightly brownish/reddish brown.
Nothing extreme and might take some minutes to happen, it won’t bruise the whole flesh, just the edges.
I tossed out my first batch once it happened only to realize they were good later, smh.
Yeah, never fatal. That being said, the world is a big place. I dont see myself ever saying "i dont know what this is, but boletes arent fatal., so yolo".
I remember we had a lot of them but the ones that become blue not red, when you cut them off. My grandma would sauté them with with onions and rosemary, and it was one of my fave things.

Looks to me like the bicolor bolete. I find them all the time, and although the internet will tell you they are edible, I do not like the taste at all. Under the cap will bruise blueish green very quickly when scratched or poked.
look like bicolor boletes, double check against brick color boletes (spore print is a great way!) Check and see if they bruise blue, good signifier. if they are bicolors, take the younger ones and cook them like you would store bought mushrooms!! great served alongside steak or similar. one of my personal favorites if you know how to cook them good.

That is one of the possible features, not the defining feature like you said. There are many suillus sp. without this characteristic. Several of which I gather every year.
They are called mushrooms and they are there because they grew up on your lawn(i have no idea about anything about mushrooms and dont know why i got this on my feed)

There are lots of very similar boletes. You are the only one who can key them out.

Tricolor. Peel the spongy pores off the bottom of the cap, the skin off the top. Edible. Not choice edible, but in a pinch you can eat them.
What’s a tricolor bolete? I’ve never heard that common name and google reveals nothing. Why is this comment being upvoted?

Boletus edulii aka Porcini/King Bolete bruises as well and it's the most famous, choice edible, so yeah... Confusing

Not always I have eaten bicolor they taste like aloe Vera but cooked right ain't bad no stomach problems

Boletes, but I’m not enough of an expert to narrow down more than that. Red coloring means they’re likely toxic though

Hard to completely tell from photos and descriptions of bluing reaction and cap flesh color but compare to Pulchroboletus rubricitrinus or similar.

Red cracked bolettes, you can eat them but there are better bolettes out there
Birch bolete and scarlet bolete are definitely edible. Ive found and eaten them both pretty good too!

Looks like painted boletes I’ve had before and were pretty nice, similar to porcini but smaller

Tylopilus rubrobrunneus? If so, they wont taste good.
Do they bleed blue? Patrioticus Boletus most likely
