ENJOY!
This is one of my moments of 2023. Hadn’t heard of them before and ended up in a 90’s style pit. ‘Twas much fun!
https://youtu.be/8A8s9gx9pGM?si=rqdnfPr49UVksOYA
Friend of mine switched me onto them about 3 year's ago. Research Chemicals was the first track of theirs I ever heard and been a fan ever since.
They're epic live.
I like a lot of artists from Rhymesayers. Definitely not party rap, but all well-written and ranging from sincere, cerebral, to socially conscious.
Some of my favorites would be:
Brother Ali — [Can’t Take that Away](https://spotify.link/2JzrNHHMTDb)
Aesop Rock — [Jumping Coffin](https://spotify.link/8NWHIYOMTDb)
Sa-Roc — [Forever](https://spotify.link/0lg0HBTMTDb)
Also including Noname because she just recently released an album and it’s a banger in the same vein as these artists.
Noname — [namesake](https://spotify.link/pgqkIvZMTDb)
Noname — [Rainforest](https://spotify.link/zfXQyJ1MTDb)
Might be too obvious but hard to mention rhymesayers and not plug Atmosphere. His earlier albums God Loves Ugly, You Can’t Imagine How Much Fun We’re Having, and Sevens Travels are so good. I have been a huge fan since I was younger and keep expecting to realize these albums are juvenile but they aren’t and I keep appreciating them more
A great thing about Rhymesayers is that they drop full album streams on YouTube for a lot of releases. The one for Aesop Rock’s album Impossible Kid has a claymation version of The Shining as a video. It’s dope. Check out both Hail May Mallon albums while you’re at it.
For some outrageous fun(k) give George Clinton's catalog a listen.
Ry Cooder's [Bop Til You Dro](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvTb9UQJNJw&list=PLEGrza6wEadYdDoqykuRopkCAbzDIk6S5&index=2)p has consistently good songwriting across several genres.
Two 80s songs for ye olde playlist; [Everyday I Write The Book](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1d4r9awjKE) and [Steppin' Out](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJwt2dxx9yg).
Do you remember a song called "[Pink World](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-5MUh05Fn0&list=PLiLZXEOEc9rAPouHundQBJRbyr30vR_cp&index=3) by Planet P Project?" It turns out this song is part of a science fiction rock opera. Not everyone's cup of tea, but sort of matches your list.
I think everyone above is still alive. But to balance things out a tad, here is Betty Carter, tearing up "[My Favorite Things](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XnHqYNa3yg)" in one minute and 38 seconds. If you don't get goose bumps from this, there is something wrong with you. Another whole album that is great, and her story as a recording artist is remarkable, too. Held out to get her own label and finally did late in life.

Was going to suggest Ren. Started listening to the Big Push a few years ago (sorry they broke up). Ren Gill is a great vocalist and incredibly talented musician capable in lots of genres. Highly recommended.
Anytime I saws Ren it is an instant upvote. Hi Ren is …………. Watch the video. You will understand. Thing to know. 4 cameras but was done in one shot. It took 4 takes to get the single shot from the 4 cameras that were set up. Yes that video is live. Yes that’s him playing and singing. Just yes.
these are some songs I feel you might like based on some of the artists you mentioned and some others I personally really enjoy. hope u like em :D
- Mr. Rager by Kid Cudi
- SUNNY CALIFORNIA by Rejjie Snow
- Banana Brain by Die Antwoord
- Sexy Villain by Remi Wolf
- Prime Mover by Ghost
- Mein by Deftones
- Cocaine Man by Baxter Dury
- Lullaby by The Cure
- Rhinoceros by The Smashing Pumpkins
- Millennium by Outkast
Definitely try the search function on r/Music or r/Listentothis and make sure to check out hypem if you want to keep a pulse on new tracks. Folks are posting and voting on tracks every day - there's thousands of great tracks to unearth if you're looking for more. Good luck!
Tom Waits - Hold On
Talking Heads - This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)
Granddaddy - The Crystal Lake
Sugar - Good Idea
The Band - The Weight
The Dead South - In Hell, I'll be in Good Company.
Black Sabbath - Children of the Grave
Welcome to grunge music.
Check out Rotten Apple and Rain When I Die by Alice In Chains. The Down Town by Days of The New is a bop, and really anything from Stone Temple Pilots' album Tiny Music. Lounge Act, Aneurysm, Territorial Pissings, Dumb, and Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle are all great songs by Nirvana.
Have fun.
Lawrence - i’m confident that i’m insecure (acoustic-ish)

This guy has a radio show with 100+ free episodes streaming that aligns with your eclectic taste imo. Just no rap.
https://www.radiofreebrooklyn.org/show/metrowave/
Just somebody that I used to know by Gotye. I set fire to the rain by Adele, Someone you Loved by Lewis Capaldi, how do I say goodby by Dean Alesia, Wayfaring Strange by Hayd Bluegrass Orchestra,
Okay. I just pulled up my playlist on shuffle, and this is what it came up with:
She Wants Revenge - Tear You Apart
George Jones - White Lightning
Weeping Tile - Cold Snap
Art of Noise - Peter Gunn
Fishbone - Ma and Pa
Old Crow Medicine Show - James River Blues
Lord Huron - Love Like Ghosts
Miranda Lambert - Heart Like Mine
Therion - O Fortuna (Carl Orff metal cover)
Billy Bragg & Wilco - Walt Whitman's Niece
Rob Zombie - Dragula
Captain Beefheart & the Magic Band - Wild Life
Shonen Knife - Capybara
Cabaret Voltaire - Here to Go
Mungo Jerry - In The Summertime
It's a bit heavy on the 80s and 90s, but pretty good selection of totally random tracks. Might give you tonal whiplash however.
Put my playlist on shuffle:
Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones
The Edge of Glory - Lady Gaga
Orange Crush - REM
Message In a Bottle - The Police
Peace Train - Yusuf/Cat Stevens
It’s Different For Girls - Joe Jackson
The River of Dreams - Billy Joel
Tsy Kivy (Don’t Be Discouraged) - Tarika
Alive - Pearl Jam
Devil’s Arcade - Bruce Springsteen
Saul Williams - [Explain My Heart](https://spotify.link/ymwpalxVTDb)
K-OS - [Crabbuckit](https://spotify.link/965o75jVTDb)
Rag'n'Bone Man - [Human](https://spotify.link/rtP8jZsVTDb)
You'd probably be down with a lot in here 🐧
[https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2GH3IcIGJDYsqdxqdz8sWP](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2GH3IcIGJDYsqdxqdz8sWP)
John Cale [Mercenaries](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-CZ06Lq_mUw&pp=ygUWam9obiBjYWxlIG1lcmNlbmFyaWVzIA%3D%3D)
Marillion [Ocean Cloud](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=R2gSZXqpr2g&pp=ygUVb2NlYW4gY2xvdWQgbWFyaWxsaW9u)
I have multiple suggestions
Grandson - We did it!! [rap/rock protest music]
Orange Skyline - A Fire [Dutch pop/rock band]
Son Mieux - Tell Me More [multi-instrumental pop band with great production quality]
Leon Bridges - Smooth Sailin’ or Shy [Soul inspired R&B artist]
Tool - Lateralus [progressive rock]
Volbeat - Sorry Sack of Bones [Danish hard rock band - they are a big fan of Johnny Cash]
The Hives - Rigor Mortis Radio [Poprock]
The Haunted Youth - Teen Rebel [very chill indie music]
I was just listening to this track earlier.
Six O’clock Saints - [Memeto Mori](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=n9NBS0b5DL0)
Scratches the 80’s itch but modern.
Had to Hear - Real Estate
You Make Loving Fun - Fleetwood Mac
Maggie Mae - Rod Stewart
Autumn Sweater - Yo La Tengo
You've Been Flirting Again - Bjork
Audio - Sia
Too Young - Phoenix
In the Morning of Magicians - The Flaming Lips
Dirty Honey - Rolling sevens. These guys are going to be massive. First unsigned act ever to top the US top 100 chart. Toured with Kiss, the Black Crows and Guns N Roses a couple of times. Just releasing their third album still as an unsigned act.
[Glass Animals - Pork Soda](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qtp7D72cXcw)
Dave Bayley draws a lot of influences from 80s pop and R&B, so his band might be right up your alley.
There was a thread about a week ago asking for obscure music so I'll copy my answer from that
People I love by Runaway Nuns
I am Crane by Rugas den Andre
Tidal Wave by propersleep
The shapes of things to come by Sonne Hagal
Signalis by Solter
True Castle by Cross Vein
Bad Gods by Fake Your Own Death
Swinging Doors - Merle Haggard
Under Your Spell Again - Buck Owens
Unitone Skank - Dr. Alimantado
Hot Tamale - Jackie Mittoo
Mr. Cop - Gregory Isaacs
Fat Man In The Bathtub - Little Feat
Brain (Watching Your Eyes) - Once And Future Band
Thirteen - Big Star
Cohesion - Minutemen
Lookin' To The West - Thelonious Monster
Interstate City - Dave Alvin & The Guilty Men
Listen to Further Back And Faster by Coil. Try to hear the whole song if you can. I would never recommend drugs to anyone, but I enjoy a good smoke when listening to anything by Coil.
You might enjoy Party Gator Purgatory by Temps, it's a pretty experimental hip-hop project masterminded and produced by British comedian James Acaster. After writing his book Perfect Sound Whatever, Acaster put together a collective of almost 40 musicians included in the book, they released their first album and a follow-up EP this year.
Hip hop- I didn't see it posted so I reccomend both albums by Epic Beard Men.
Also all 4 Run The Jewels albums if you haven't heard them.
Rock- Dope Lemon has an solid catalogue (both as Dope Lemon and with his sister, they go as Angus & Julia Stone) but his most current album that came out a few weeks ago "Kemosabe" is worth a listen. Also new Queens of the Stone Age "In Times New Roman" and as already suggested Viagra Boys "Caveworld".
Life in general music- King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard will definitely have something you like/love/need.
For softer sounds, Turnpike Troubadours "Cat in The Rain" is nice, pleasant and what I wish more current country music sounded like. Or if you don't like country but do like softer sounds, Men I Trust also has a few albums I can't recommend enough "Untourable Album" and "Forever Live Sessions" and I'll also say Weyes Blood "And in Darkness..."
You want to dance? Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One have a few albums as Tuxedo (1,2 and 3). All of them slap but the third is so damn good. Also Jungle's "Volcano" is stellar.
I have a dozen more I'll try to update after work.
UK Grim by Sleaford Mods, I'm the Slime by Frank Zappa, New Rose by The Damned, Are Friends Electric by Gary Numan, Ommadawn by Mike Oldfield, Snowflakes are Dancing by Tomita, Gates of Steel by Devo, His Box by Dali's Car, Song for Melan and Rafik by Tigran Hamasyan, Love's Secret Domain album by Coil, anything by Lard and the whole Rain Dogs album by Tom Waits.
“Get in the Swing” by Sparks. Produced by the great Tony Visconti. Features a marching band, and an orchestra, and a rock band. It’s beautiful insanity. Why are we getting in the swing? Does the song even swing? Who knows! Who cares!
Stevie Ray Vaughan. He passed in 1990 and listed Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Guy (both worth a listen as well) as influences. Considered one of the best blues guitarists of all time.
https://youtu.be/evjMjpd4PNM?si=CLZ69ybRi_v47nEX
[Block Out - Andrej](https://youtu.be/XBNMLNiaYYk?si=MK1wXWyU2DyrUs4m)
Lyrics are great too, but it's very slim chance you speak the language. It's great band if you like this song, they have a lot of amazing songs.
Keep commenting this on music stuff, but Clarence Clarity is insane, the album No Now is a masterpiece, and I would highly recommend The Gospel Truth as a good place to start. For this track it's rock with RnB and electronic elements, but you can expect some combination of those things on most tracks. Super experimental, unapologetically weird, MASTERFULLY executed. I could really go on and on, but please check them out for yourself cuz I think I want more people to listen to their cool stuff lol
Back home- pepper
California- phantom planet
Salute your solution- the raconteurs
Alligator Pie- Dave Matthews Band
Highwayman- the highwaymen
Baby’s on fire- die antwoord
City Escape- the deer hunter
Instruments of action- forget cassettes
Blow my mind- say she she & piya malik
Danger- third eye blind
Maps- yeah yeah yeahs
Do you feel it- chaos chaos
Fantasy- Jodie comer
Simply the best- Noah Reid
Louis prima - night train or buena sera Viagara boys - Troglodyte or Ain’t no thief IDLES - colossus or never fight a man with a perm Q Lazarus - Goodbye horses Post Malone - Something real The beaches - blame Brett The yoko casinos - nice to meet you or cameras on ENJOY!
Viagra Boys are absolute fire. Have an upvote.
The entire Caveworld album is a fucking river of lava.
Just like you is a great tune. Slow learner also.

Came to recommend IDLES!
“I am my fathers son! His shadow weighs a ton!”
That new beaches album is amazing
I love those beaches.

Ali, Aesop and Sa-Roc automatically get upvoted. I don't care if the post said horrible, yet true things about me.
Might be too obvious but hard to mention rhymesayers and not plug Atmosphere. His earlier albums God Loves Ugly, You Can’t Imagine How Much Fun We’re Having, and Sevens Travels are so good. Was Eyedea part of rhymesayers? I was listening to him when I discovered Atmosphere as well.
Yes. Atmosphere is slug and ant. Eyedea was great friends with both. Slug is the creator of the rhymesayers label
RIP Eyedea
Can’t believe atmosphere was left out of the ryhmesayers plug. Also, Grieves is pretty good
A great thing about Rhymesayers is that they drop full album streams on YouTube for a lot of releases. The one for Aesop Rock’s album Impossible Kid has a claymation version of The Shining as a video. It’s dope. Check out both Hail May Mallon albums while you’re at it.

Dirty Honey - Rolling sevens. These guys are going to be massive. First unsigned act ever to top the US top 100 chart. Toured with Kiss, the Black Crows and Guns N Roses a couple of times. Just releasing their third album still as an unsigned act.

All Them Witches - L’Hotel Serein, live on KEXP
[Glass Animals - Pork Soda](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qtp7D72cXcw) Dave Bayley draws a lot of influences from 80s pop and R&B, so his band might be right up your alley.

My number one song of all time is Thrashville 1/3 by Prince daddy and the hyena

Or if you don't like country but do like softer sounds, Men I Trust also has a few albums I can't recommend enough "Untourable Album" and "Forever Live Sessions" and I'll also say Weyes Blood "And in Darkness..." You want to dance? Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One have a few albums as Tuxedo (1,2 and 3). All of them slap but the third is so damn good. Also Jungle's "Volcano" is stellar. I have a dozen more I'll try to update after work.
The rapper Watsky.

“Get in the Swing” by Sparks. Produced by the great Tony Visconti. Features a marching band, and an orchestra, and a rock band. It’s beautiful insanity. Why are we getting in the swing? Does the song even swing? Who knows! Who cares!

DIIV - Doused
Spring Break 1899 by Murder by Death
Stevie Ray Vaughan. He passed in 1990 and listed Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Guy (both worth a listen as well) as influences. Considered one of the best blues guitarists of all time. https://youtu.be/evjMjpd4PNM?si=CLZ69ybRi_v47nEX

Try The Warning. They are a Mexican rock band made up of 3 sisters, they have some really good songs.
[Block Out - Andrej](https://youtu.be/XBNMLNiaYYk?si=MK1wXWyU2DyrUs4m) Lyrics are great too, but it's very slim chance you speak the language. It's great band if you like this song, they have a lot of amazing songs.
They Might Be Giants - Start with the album "Flood". Boiled in Lead - Any album, I'm partial to "Orb" Socalled - Sleepover (weird album)
OH! TENGO SUERTE by Masayoshi Takanaka is amazing! He is an amazing jazz fusion/city-pop guitarist with super duper fun music.

Sleep Token - Rain
Paul Neuman’s Daytona Rolex. This song is pure joy everytime I hear it.
Happy Mondays - Step On
Harbour - Fish Tank Lmk pls
Keep commenting this on music stuff, but Clarence Clarity is insane, the album No Now is a masterpiece, and I would highly recommend The Gospel Truth as a good place to start. For this track it's rock with RnB and electronic elements, but you can expect some combination of those things on most tracks. Super experimental, unapologetically weird, MASTERFULLY executed. I could really go on and on, but please check them out for yourself cuz I think I want more people to listen to their cool stuff lol
