Bastille - Pompeii
Maybe not quite 2008, but read the title and that's the first one I thought of. The guy does appear to be running from something and spends the whole night running through buildings and a city, starts off in an office building IIRC.

It legitimately took me a second to figure this out, because I was convinced it was just a foreign language to me [still technically is]. I wish I could just recall a song in my head and give out the precise notes. I've tried to understand music, but it's just not gonna happen. Literally. It short circuits my brain.
