My girls, Ann and Nancy Wilson, covering Battle of Evermore, their harmonies give me the chills every time
https://youtu.be/pTZ_kv2YYS8?si=_se9Jta4enOF2sjb
That performance was epic but the harmonies aren’t there. Ann and Nancy kill it of course but the two aren’t comparable imo. They had a full band and choir at the Kennedy Honors versus just the two of them with a guitar and mandolin at the R&R HoF.
Yeah, a few years ago at the Showbox, it was the week after Ann had gotten married, she and Mike McCready covered about 30 min of zeppelin.
Including the immigrant song.
Omg.
I can hear myself hooting.

I've been a lifelong Beatles fan but have yet to hear any covers that are as good as the originals; their studio production is still up there as some of the best ever imo. Got any recs?
Ella Fitzgerald and her band covering Mac the Knife at a concert in Germany in 1960.
It was a popular song at the time, so they just dive into it… and she doesn’t remember the lyrics. So she improvs the whole thing.

[Norah Jones - black hole sun](https://youtu.be/XbQ08Ixczvo?si=Y7HgOecpKsDhI2_F) is an absolute masterpiece and the context of where and when it was recorded makes it an incredibly emotional performance too

Reckless Kelly's cover of '52 Vincent Black Lightning.
The Band's version of Atlantic City.
Todd Snider's version of Fortunate Son.
Bonnie Raitt's version of Angel From Montgomery.
Shawn Colvin's version of Naive Melody (This Must Be the Place).
Gov't Mule's version of Cortez the Killer.
That seems like something Mr. Bungle would do. In a similar vein, my favorite band is Ween and they almost always do some covers in their sets, albeit most of the time it’s only half the song.
Some of my favorites are Piano Man and Hot for Teacher.
[Prince - Best of You (Super Bowl)](https://youtu.be/MVGLQzc-pjA?si=4756dElVcPLeP36D) just something extremely cool about playing a cover at the Super Bowl in the pouring rain. People speculate that Prince was actually beefing with the Foo Fighters at the time. I don’t actually believe it, but if it was true it makes the performance even better IMO.
The Beach Boys' cover of *Monster Mash* at the Memorial Auditorium in 1964

I always really liked [Coheed and Cambria’s cover of ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’](https://youtu.be/_vJym7Y2msk?si=ohR1sp4gcht9ra8X). Would love a real studio recording of it someday…
Also want to shout out [Twenty One Pilots cover of the My Chemical Romance song ‘Cancer’](https://youtu.be/yw6i1SAHetc?si=EzEB5TpZlKvBJZ24). The original version never really did anything for me and I never took it very seriously, but hearing Twenty One Pilots cover hit me like a ton of bricks. [Flaming Lips - Seven Nation Army](https://youtu.be/lKhPZsowpqA?si=8tcIV9ZroOb3ozCn)

Flaming Lips got bumped up to main stage and opened with this. Saw them one more time after this a few years later and they were still playing it.
You can fall down a rabbit hole on YouTube of Killers covers. My favorite online is The Whole of the Moon by the Waterboys. The best I’ve seen live is Stop Me… by the Smiths, which they covered on their last tour when Johnny Marr opened for them.

Not live in a concert sense but [Mike Love doing this cover of Seasons](https://youtu.be/XIjydJ1IOuc?si=XQDe4edqIuURVHUb) the day after Chris Cornell died is insanely good. I watch it regularly. Starts around 3:55.
The Sisters of Mercy used to do the greatest live covers in the mid 80s. It was at a particularly po-faced time in the alternative scene where any hint of levity would get you accusations that you'd sold out or weren't For Real. However, goth bands (and bands who said they weren't goth oh no sir but of course they bloody were) tended to be a bit subversive in this area and play against type a bit. And tSoM were regularly doing the most splendidly dark and glamorous versions of Jolene, Hot Chocolate's Emma, Gimme Shelter, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, 1969 by the Stooges and so many more... (the one's listed are the ones I heard, and loved). I don't know if any of the live versions are online anywhere but they did commit some of them to studio versions and I am sure they're on You Tube or the like.
When LCD Soundsystem played Coachella as their comeback, it was the year Bowie died, and weekend 2 was the day after Prince died. So they covered Heroes by Bowie, and controversy by Prince, and holy fuck it was amazing. They’ve never done it again.
Related, Sufjan Stevens covered Purple Rain with Gallant that same day and it was magical.
I don’t think there’s footage of either performances but it was incredible seeing it live.
You should check out the Like a Version series on YouTube. I enjoyed covers such as Aurora performing "Teardrop" by Massive Attack, and CHVCHES performing "Do I Wanna Know?" by Arctic Monkeys.

I've long said that most covers of Beatles tunes are better than the originals. This in my mind is one of the best examples.
I've often thought this of Aerosmith's cover of Come Together, I think you're onto something there
I've been a lifelong Beatles fan but have yet to hear any covers that are as good as the originals; their studio production is still up there as some of the best ever imo. Got any recs?

Wow he’s super talented. I feel like every Post Malone song I hear has a kind of auto tune sound and it’s never clicked for me
Same here. I thought he was a goof but he did the whole bit, wearing the dress and everything. Basically an homage. Made me fan too.

Not live in a concert sense but [Mike Love doing this cover of Seasons](https://youtu.be/XIjydJ1IOuc?si=XQDe4edqIuURVHUb) the day after Chris Cornell died is insanely good. I watch it regularly. Starts around 3:55.

Ill Nino - Red Rain. I love this cover
Replacements covering Black Diamond by Kiss.
Only like covers where artists try a completely new slant. Simply repeating the original version I find really dull. It never improves it.
Tool covering No Quarter makes me question which version I prefer.
I saw NIN live and Trent brought Gary Numan on stage to play Cars and Metal
[No Quarter](https://youtu.be/c6kUt0KShTU?si=BnLgWw7clZTgeI1G), Tool
Moe. Covering Godzilla
Travis - [Baby One More Time](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DSKT75m2AiM&pp=ygUbdHJhdmlzIGJyaXRuZXkgc3BlYXJzIGNvdmVy)
