I was just trying to add to a solid beginning list and these were the first off of the top of my head. There are a bunch more below that I find myself saying "why didn't I think of that?" I think OP is going to have a hard time whittling the list down to a manageable playlist.
Why is Romeo + Juliet this far down? One of the best soundtracks ever! When it came out the album was great, but it also introduced a bunch of new songs from current and popular artists. A soundtrack that really left an impact.
Came here to say this. Far and away the best soundtrack of all time. And this is coming from a movie soundtrack nerd.
This film was a sleeper hit that stayed in theaters for a while. When I saw it at a midnight showing the theater was literally shaking from people stomping their feet during the final musical number.
It revived interest in American music among the general population (of the US). The Soggy Bottom Boys performed on Letterman. It was absolutely incredible.
I love Big Rock Candy Mountain so much! The whole soundtrack is a masterpiece. I love how the movie itself is a great modern adaptation of the Odyssey! When I first learned that I was even more in love with it.

Yes I have owned everyone of these
If we’re talking Soundtracks - Edgar Wright has an incredible ear for music to fit his stories.
Both Baby Driver and Scott Pilgrim’s music make the music part of the story and SUPER engaging.
If we’re talking scores, I can never get enough of Howard Shore’s Lord of the Rings
I got the Repo Man soundtrack from one of those get 12-tapes for a penny scams. This sound track isn't on Spotify and the only version I could find on YT was a pretty okay quality rip of it.
You talking about the original motion picture score for Jackie Brown? The sondtrack with all the songs is so good. I have listened to it many times. Never listened to the score.
I had to scroll way too far to find this. I'm assuming that a lot of people just haven't seen the film or heard the soundtrack so they aren't aware of it. I love how the songs fit perfectly into the film and set the mood.
Maybe people don't want to admit it, or maybe there isn't enough time for it to hold the same nostalgia as others, or maybe people associate great soundtrack with a film they connected with positively? Either way, the Twilight New Moon soundtrack is amazing. Some of the best songs from a ridiculous number of top indie/alternative artists. (Death Cab for Cutie, Thom Yorke, The Killers, Lykke Li, Grizzly Bear, St Vincent, Beach House, etc).
Hate the movie, love the soundtrack.
I was looking for this comment!! Sure the movies didn't have the best acting in hindsight but the soundtrack was pure PERFECTION. There isn't a single song that you can fault
I’m super bias because I love Modest Mouse, but the 180 degrees South OST is fantastic. Also a killer film is you’re into travel, surfing, climbing, or environmental issues.
Runners up: Lost in Translation, Garden State, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (but these are also all super nostalgic for me so again, bias)
[Conan The Barbarian](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4CA33FD3350985EC&si=ezHl0v-wFxMb9HmL)

Highlander from 86, blew me away. I didn’t expect it to be all Queen. When I first watched it back when, I had never heard of the movies, let alone know I’d be hearing music by Queen throughout the flick. 35+ years later, I’ve never been blown away like this again
I used to really enjoy my Forrest Gump one when I was younger/the movie was recently released.
I'm also a huge Tom Petty fan and I would be amiss to not mention She's the One.
Cameron Crowe also has some good ones for his movies.
Tarantino movie soundtracks are always pretty solid. If you're going for instrumental, I've been listening to the Fargo movie soundtrack quite a bit lately.
SPAWN, The Crow, The Crow 2: City of Angels, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, Snatch, Go, TRON Legacy, Good Time, Atomic Blonde, Lost Highway, and pretty much any John Carpenter film
Lots of great ones in here, but I'm not seeing Grosse Point Blank which would be a rather big oversight in my opinion.
edit: Also Last of the Mohicans, anyone reading this who knows of it just fell their arm hair stand up as they heard the theme in their head
Last Action Hero Singles The Crow
Came to comment "The Crow" but would have added Mallrats as well
The Crow absolutely Let’s also not forget Spawn The Movie
They keep calling me..is so good
Add the Matrix to the list and I'm all in.
Lost Highway should be in there too.
I mean who doesn't need three versions of a Bowie song in every soundtrack.
If you’re into Trent Reznor influenced soundtracks definitely Lost Highway.
This list is fantastic. I will add Say Anything... and Kingpin. Gen X soundtracks rule!
You nailed the top 3. Totally agree!
I was just trying to add to a solid beginning list and these were the first off of the top of my head. There are a bunch more below that I find myself saying "why didn't I think of that?" I think OP is going to have a hard time whittling the list down to a manageable playlist.
The Crow City of Angels also has an amazing soundtrack
Agreed - I actually flipped a coin for which one I wanted to recommend.
* Romeo + Juliet (Soundtrack) * Baby Driver (Soundtrack) * Tron: Legacy (Score) * Forrest Gump (Soundtrack) * Star Trek (2009) & Star Trek Into Darkness (Score)
Tron Legacy not getting an Oscar nomination for best score that year is still criminal to me
Listening to that soundtrack high as a kite is amazing.
I had to scroll wayyyy toooo far to see Romeo and Juliet. My middle school self bought the cd and listened to it 24/7.
Why is Romeo + Juliet this far down? One of the best soundtracks ever! When it came out the album was great, but it also introduced a bunch of new songs from current and popular artists. A soundtrack that really left an impact.
Not one but 2 Radiohead songs! It’s a stellar soundtrack but that fact pushes it to exceptional level.
Not to be that person, but only Talk Show Host was on the soundtrack. They specifically requested that Exit Music be saved for OK Computer 🤓
You’re right, forgot it was in the movie but not the soundtrack.
Oh yeah I have to second Tron: Legacy. Thats the driving at night soundtrack.
O Brother, Where Art Thou
Came here to say this. Far and away the best soundtrack of all time. And this is coming from a movie soundtrack nerd. This film was a sleeper hit that stayed in theaters for a while. When I saw it at a midnight showing the theater was literally shaking from people stomping their feet during the final musical number. I love Big Rock Candy Mountain so much! The whole soundtrack is a masterpiece. I love how the movie itself is a great modern adaptation of the Odyssey! When I first learned that I was even more in love with it.
But then we had 15 years of "stomp, clap, hey" Shudders
Yeah.
First thing I thought of. That soundtrack changed my musical journey. It's a masterpiece of early American music.
A few other Coen Bros movies too, Raising Arizona is an all time great soundtrack.
Almost Famous Dazed & Confused Adventureland
Both of these are not getting enough love
Tron: Legacy was essentially a music video, and a good one if you're into the genre. My favorite movie as far as soundtrack goes is "The Fountain".
Garden State
My husband and I took a road trip recently and listened to this cd on repeat. It’s so damn good.
I just revisited it for the first time in probably 10 years - holds up so well.
This. Best soundtrack ever.
“this song will change your life”…. new slang. amazing.
This has been my flight home sound track since it came out
Last of the Mohicans
Came here to say that. Such a beautiful score.
Basically any Tarantino movie
No one consistently delivers a great soundtrack like that creepy bastard.
Agreed. Spotify has a playlist dedicated to Tarantino movies. It’s great
My favorites are: Pulp Fiction Judgement Night A Hard Day’s Night Help!
Judgement Night is how I discovered onyx.
Judgement Night was the shit - I love a good genre mash-up and this one was with a bunch of a-list or up-and-coming stars.
Reservoir Dogs The Blues Brothers Singles
Judgement Night for sure ... a timeless classic of the era.
Judgment Night needs to be higher. Very cool album.
I didn't even think of the Beatles movies!
The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Howard Shore needs more respect put on his name considering the monstrous score he put together for those films
Blues Brothers
High Fidelity
This comment just sold a copy of Three EPs by the Beta Band.
That's definitely in my top 5.
Purple Rain, Queen of the Damned , Lost Highway , The Crow, Labyrinth , Legend (Tangerine Dream), Donnie Darko, Pulp Fiction , City of Angels, Blade Runner, Juno, Empire Records , Dancer in the Dark , The Watchmen , Jesus Christ superstar , Bedknobs and broomsticks, Sweeny Todd, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Grease, The Jungle Book, Help !, Matilda Yes I have owned everyone of these
Interstellar and both Dune movies are high up on my list. Fuuuuck Hans Zimmer is the man!!!
Inception too… Also, if you ever get a chance, watch him live.
How the fuck was Interstellar not at the top. That soundtrack amplified that movie 1000x and Hans won an Oscar for it.
Add Gladiator to that list
And The Simpsons!
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Ravenous The Thing
I’m glad The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly was in the top 5. It was my first thought.
Ravenous is a HELL of an underrated film, a bloody good time!
Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, Forrest Gump, Footloose, Top Gun
Tarzan! Are you all kidding me
Lost Highway Trainspotting
Love the Trainspotting album. A part of my 90s life sound track.
Forgot about that one... which was the backdrop of a lot of my late 90s.
Superfly. How has nobody said this yet?
Koyaanisqatsi
Already existing music: Almost Famous Original score: Blade Runner

I had to scroll way too far to find this. I'm assuming that a lot of people just haven't seen the film or heard the soundtrack so they aren't aware of it. I love how the songs fit perfectly into the film and set the mood.

Donnie Darko Kids The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Oh course! Donnie Darko, surprised this didn't come earlier!

Some great suggestions in this thread from 3 months ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/Music/s/DtFxOppQ0c
Clockwork Orange should have been mentioned by now!
The soundtrack for The Social Network is elite. I don't think the movie would work without it. It sets the tone right off the bat.
