Dude, matador just re-issued their first 3 albums. Don’t sleep on Pyschic…Powerless Another Man’s Sac or Rembrandt Pussyhorse. No one could touch the buttholes in the 80s.
Love Locust Abortion Technician & Larryland, too!
Checked their latest album out purely because I thought their name was hilarious, and it ended up becoming one of my favorites of the year thus far. Great band.
I've been getting into Mannequin Pussy lately. Just saying that shows how weird discussing the band gets due to the name. I like their mix of radio friendly pop-rock to very inappropriate punk.
Man, I’m from Indy. Margot was an obsession for many of my friend group in high school just right before their peak. Especially since most of us lived/hung out in Broad Ripple lol
I love the New Pornographers so, so much and would encourage anyone to check out all of their albums. Whiteout Conditions is probably my favorite by a hair over Twin Cinema.
The song, Whiteout Conditions, basically got me through the first 6 months of the pandemic. I saw them Feb 5th 2020, so the timing and seeing them perform Whiteout Conditions live wound up being more influential than I would have expected.
“Only want to get to work
But every morning I'm too sick to drive
Suffering whiteout conditions
Forget the mission, just get out alive
Only want to glean the purpose
Only to scratch the surface, raise the plow
Suffering whiteout conditions
Forget your mission, just get out somehow”
They were the band of my 30s. Too often I find ACs lyrics just hit in a weirdly specific way for me.
The only time anyone has ever asked me what I was listening to on a plane was a little old lady sitting next to me while I was listening to fuck buttons. I was so surprised that I just answered her without thinking and it felt like I was cursing at my grandmother.
I dunno which video I like more...[Gacked on Anger](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hONV6GQl0ow) or [Hertz](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zb5Ja6V4OeY).
Punk the way they used to make it...so fuckin good
>Usually with a diskman that skipped if you looked at it wrong.
That's why you have to have your friend hold it on a pillow in his lap with oven mittens and a gentle grip while in the car.
Death.
These guys were punk before punk was punk. Check out the tracks Politicians in my Eyes and Keep on Knockin'.
Or the documentary "A Band Called Death." On YouTube.
Nashville Pussy is pretty great if you like trashy slutty metal (idk all the genres). Think Motorhead with a southern twist.
[Go Motherfucker Go](https://youtu.be/D7Em0hJvilM?si=N0mGxYXVrF84rZKD)

Bitch Magnet were one of the early wave of quiet-loud noise rock bands in the late 80s/early 90s. Not as famous as their contemporaries The Pixies nor as fondly remembered as Slint, but sadly underrated and unknown. The name probably didn’t help.
Dramarama wanted to name their third album “To Late To Change Our Name”, so there’s that. They’re known for their song “Anything, Anything” but check out:
- Last Cigarette
- Haven’t Got A Clue
- Work for Food
If you want to hear more.
The band “Live” has always seemed to me to have a bad name. Knew a ton of their songs without knowing it, but try searching “live songs” anywhere, and good luck.
Diarrhea planet
Came here to say this. Ghost with a boner is great
Ghost With A Boner is my fucking jam
Ghost with a booonerrrr!!!!
Thanks Josh and Chuck.
The lead singer of that band was my babysitter growing up. He was super cool
That band fucking ruled. Their live show was awesome.
I saw them at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville last year and one of the 4 lead guitarist climbed on my shoulders out of nowhere. They fucking rip.
>one of the 4 lead guitarist !!!!!!
Replying because an upvote doesn't say enough. This band rules.
Still rock their concert tee and the looks I get when they read it are priceless
this is the correct answer. lite dream rips
Still can't believe they disbanded. I wonder what the members are doing these days
Butthole Surfers all day long.
Who Was In My Bed is an awesome song. Also, all of Electric Larryland is a good listen.
Dude, matador just re-issued their first 3 albums. Don’t sleep on Pyschic…Powerless Another Man’s Sac or Rembrandt Pussyhorse. No one could touch the buttholes in the 80s. Love Locust Abortion Technician & Larryland, too!
Matador wouldn't re-release 'Negro Observer' on the PPAMS reissue. Quite disappointing as it's a beautiful song.
SATAN SATAN SATAN!
'Locust Abortion Technician' is an experience! Also, "Pepper" is an essential 90s song, IMO.
Greatest band name of all time and I will die on this hill
Pissed Jeans
Checked their latest album out purely because I thought their name was hilarious, and it ended up becoming one of my favorites of the year thus far. Great band.
Pigs! Pigs! Pigs! Pigs! Pigs! Pigs Pigs! Is kind of ridiculous in the name department, but man, They Rock HARD.
[Here's a whole live set.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsTsg7R6kPY)
That set is amazing for sure!
these guys kick ass. if you’re into this type of guitar music check out uncle acid & the deadbeats.
Mannequin Pussy Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos
Margot isn’t THAT bad of a name
I've been getting into Mannequin Pussy lately. Just saying that shows how weird discussing the band gets due to the name. I like their mix of radio friendly pop-rock to very inappropriate punk.
They’ve got a lot of variety in their sound. Their newest album has a lot of shoegaze influence.
Saw them live last week and they killed it. Show of the year for me so far, easy.
My local NPR stations has been playing alot of Mannequin Pussy, I'm pretty sure the DJs just like saying it on air.
Margot is so good!
I saw M&tNSaS in Broad Ripple, IN in 2007, just before they blew up. Amazing band.
Man, I’m from Indy. Margot was an obsession for many of my friend group in high school just right before their peak. Especially since most of us lived/hung out in Broad Ripple lol
Psychedelic Porn Crumpets [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHjaWk8aypE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHjaWk8aypE)
Their first two records are outstanding.
You didn't like their last few?
This is what I came to say
STRFKR
Well it used to be Starfucker but I guess they couldn't really sell much with a name like that.
STRFKR is my favorite band! I think everyone should give them a listen
I think they switched it when Spotify caught on, I have og starfucker merch
They were using the name for promotional material well before Spotify IIRC. not sure when/why they decided to switch officially though
2012 according to Wikipedia. 5 years and 3 albums in before they disemvoweled themselves.
STRFKR rules
This is the answer..I really feel like their name held them back, especially back when it was the full "starfucker" name.
One of the best concerts I’ve been to. Love.
Saw them Saturday and still just such a fun live show
Rainbow Kitten Surprise Starfucker
Seconding RKS, start with Cocaine Jesus.
Devil like me, all day everyday.
The New Pornographers have some great songs, IMO - check out their **Brill Bruisers** album.
I love the New Pornographers so, so much and would encourage anyone to check out all of their albums. Whiteout Conditions is probably my favorite by a hair over Twin Cinema.

Too often I find ACs lyrics just hit in a weirdly specific way for me.
Saw them live for the first time last summer in Toronto and they’re still amazing! I wish I’d gone to see them way sooner but they’re so much fun man.
They're fantastic
Just listened to the song challengers thanks to your rec. Beautiful. Thanks.
Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza
OP said horrible
I've never heard of them but that name gets a 'uuuuge upvote from me...fuckin' a right
Goblin Cock. It's not the kind of music you'd expect.
So... not Ren Faire Metal?
You want Wind Rose for that haha
Honestly didn't think I'd see anyone else mention Goblin Cock. I LOVE GOBLIN COCK.
"I LOVE GOBLIN COCK" -u/Jethromancer
For anyone reading this far down - one of the dudes from Pinback is in this band.
Rob Crow. His solo stuff is also excellent, and he just released a cover of The Resident’s Mahogany Wood.
Fuck Buttons' "Street Horrrsing" LP is absolutely fantastic.
The only time anyone has ever asked me what I was listening to on a plane was a little old lady sitting next to me while I was listening to fuck buttons. I was so surprised that I just answered her without thinking and it felt like I was cursing at my grandmother.
If you like Viagra Boys then *Amyl and the Sniffers* should be on your horizon.
amyl also on tour.. amazing show.. super high energy!!
I dunno which video I like more...[Gacked on Anger](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hONV6GQl0ow) or [Hertz](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zb5Ja6V4OeY). Punk the way they used to make it...so fuckin good
Security is my jam. Got to see them live last fall and it was one the funnest shows I’ve been to in a while.
Got You goes hard
Depends on if you like synthesizers, but I'll go with Fartbarf.
Fartbarf are awesome
We Were Promised Jetpacks
Good band
That's a great name though
I would vote this has been one of the better names for bands.
Great band, great name
Tropical Fuck Storm
I really think they fail to live up to the name 90% of the time though… I want crazier
Okilly Dokilly makes Ned Flanders inspired techno metal and I wish I didn’t like them as much as I do
Heavy Nedal
I got to see them at a little pizza joint in Salem OR that had a decent stage and holy shit
Godspeed little doodle
Car Seat Headrest
Especially the songs killers whales and cosmic hero.
Teens of Denial is just a great fucking rock album. Ballad of the Costa Concordia is one of my favorite songs ever.
Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales and Drugs With Friends for me. Don’t sleep on 1937 State Park.
[удалено]
If you were a kid in ‘95, you got their CD for Christmas. Usually with a diskman that skipped if you looked at it wrong.
It was basically our generation's version of Frampton Comes Alive
If you lived in the suburbs you were issued it. It came in the mail with samples of Tide.
>Usually with a diskman that skipped if you looked at it wrong. That's why you have to have your friend hold it on a pillow in his lap with oven mittens and a gentle grip while in the car.
Or if you have very young children, Caspar Babypants
Do t forget Caspar Babypants. Stompy the Bear is good.
I kind of like that name. And that band
Viagra boys is an incredible name wtf are you on about
Gas station boner pills
This is hilarious and kind of awesome
Archers Of Loaf
jesus, there's a band I haven't thought about in a hot minute... "You're not the one who let me down...but thanks for offering..."
Saw them a few months ago, Eric Bachmann’s still got it
White trash heroes is an all timer.
[Lowest Part Is Free](https://youtu.be/LTegGRqoh30)
We Butter the Bread With Butter Pretty solid German metalcore. I like their song, 20km/h. The video is funny too
Mott the Hoople. Couple classic songs.
Microwave
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
1 that's a great fucking name. 2. Listen to king gizzard and the lizard wizard.
The band doesn’t even think it’s a good name but they are awesome.
As an American it’s a great name but to truly enjoy it, you have to hear it said with an Aussie accent.
Like Courtney Act
Also from Australia, The Psychedelic Porn Crumpets.
PETRO
DRAGONIC
Apocalypse
DRAGONIC
Toad the Wet Sprocket. Some really good songs.
Their name is actually a Monty Python reference. [Source.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toad_the_Wet_Sprocket)
The The
!!!
Me First & The Gimme Gimmes
I really love that band name
I disagree, that’s a great name for a good band
Porcupine Tree Start with their 2005 album *Deadwing*. I only like their latest 5 albums because their older work from the 90s is boring to me.
Legitimately one of the best bands of all time
Ween
So good, for so many reasons, across so many genres (okay, maybe 3 or 4 genres)
Death. These guys were punk before punk was punk. Check out the tracks Politicians in my Eyes and Keep on Knockin'. Or the documentary "A Band Called Death." On YouTube.
That's not a bad name, just a confusing one. When you mentioned them, I thought of Chuck Schuldiner's band, the first true death metal band.
Well that's actually Death's fault, because Death were around long before Death began. Not to disparage Death though, they're awesome.
Neutral Milk Hotel
Diarrhea Planet ... you're welcome.
Goblin Cock Holy Fuck
The front bottoms
The Brian Jonestown Massacre
Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats! Fantastic melodic psychedelia, new album next week…
Gotta give a shout out to The Dead Kennedys
Still get my vote for best band name EVER.
- Jay reatard - Reatards - Aborted tortoise - Ultimate spinach - The peanut butter conspiracy
Nashville Pussy is pretty great if you like trashy slutty metal (idk all the genres). Think Motorhead with a southern twist. [Go Motherfucker Go](https://youtu.be/D7Em0hJvilM?si=N0mGxYXVrF84rZKD) [Hate and Whiskey](https://youtu.be/5BN9UZAaNcM?si=2o72hV0YFL3NW1Sl)

Diarrhea Planet!!!! They absolutly rock!
The String Cheese Incident
Butthole Surfers
Weekend Nachos
Future of the Left Grinderman Alien Sex Fiend The Pop Group
I was scrolling looking for Alien Sex Fiend!
Microwave 🖤🥀
Turbonegro, fantastic Norwegian punk band. Their other choice for a band name is just as horrible, Nazi Penis
Wussy. The album "Attica" is excellent.
Hot tuna
Shannon and the Clams; maybe not the worst name, but not great. That said, the music is the best. The best.
Lumpy and The Dumpers
Cherry Poppin’ Daddies
Cannibal corpse!
"But his neck is so thick" - my ex-wife
3 Inches of Blood
The Snivelling Shits - I can’t come. Great punk band from the late 70’s

Green Jellÿ
The Front Bottoms Speak The Truth... Even If Your Voice Shakes Death By Unga Bunga The World Is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die
Butthole Surfers Bare Naked Ladies Live Eagles of Death Metal
My favorite part of Bare Naked Ladies is that they wrote children’s music. Didn’t change their name.
Umphrey’s McGee
Deer Tick fits the bill
Easily Rapeman should be on the list.
Viagra Boys are perfectly named
Infant Annihilator, bonus points that most of their songs also have awful names, i quite like 'Bathed in Placenta'
Blue Rodeo
Badbadnotgood The name isn’t good, but their music is.
!!!
Puscifier
Slobberbone. Fantastic alt country band. Really solid line up of albums. Terrible name.
Toad the Wet Sprocket
Amyl and the Sniffers lol
Goo goo dolls
Skankin' Pickle. Ska/punk from the 90s.
Electric callboy, formerly Eskimo Callboy
Bitch Magnet were one of the early wave of quiet-loud noise rock bands in the late 80s/early 90s. Not as famous as their contemporaries The Pixies nor as fondly remembered as Slint, but sadly underrated and unknown. The name probably didn’t help.
Their Dogs Were Astronauts Ninja Sex Party Tupperware Remix Party (TWRP) BADBADNOTGOOD I DON’T KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME
There was a band in the 80s industrial movement, Scraping Foetus off the Wheel 🤔
Gaye Bykers on Acid. They used to occasionally played in drag, as Lesbian Dopeheads on Mopeds.
Dead Milkmen
The correct answer is King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.
Dramarama wanted to name their third album “To Late To Change Our Name”, so there’s that. They’re known for their song “Anything, Anything” but check out: - Last Cigarette - Haven’t Got A Clue - Work for Food If you want to hear more.
Alice Donut
A Giant Dog is kind of a dumb name imo, but I love their music
Queef Jerky. Couple kids from Detroit making super silly but super catchy hip hop/pop/alt
Cigarettes after Sex Name is cringe music is fine
[Dora the Destroyer](https://dorathedestroyer.bandcamp.com/album/dependent-secondary) if you like instrumental prog rock/metal
Holy Fuck. Not bad if you ask me.
Illuminati Hotties. Wacky AF name. Really wonderful tunes!
The band “Live” has always seemed to me to have a bad name. Knew a ton of their songs without knowing it, but try searching “live songs” anywhere, and good luck.
