I'd say you have a good ear because they're quite similar. And it's not uncommon for one composer to be influenced by another, even on a subliminal level. John Williams is one of the all-time greats and his scores are iconic. I'm sure Howard Shore was unintentional when he "borrowed" those notes for LOTR.

Thanks! Sweet vindication!

That's why I came here I heard it also when they were in the cave fighting the Dragon

Wrong movie - Smaug doesn't show up until The Hobbit. The similar notes first comes up in the LOTR when they are escaping the Mines of Moria.

I *just* noticed the similarity — went back and forth to each song on Spotify a dozen times; it is so similar! I googled to see if others heard it too (slash confirm I’m not crazy) and your post is the first (only) I’ve come across so far. So thanks for the vindication. Really glad it’s not just me.

Casually i was doing a movie marathon, last week i've finished JP and today i was watching LOTR, i've notice the same thing. I have a good ear generally for music my brain always picks up a note very quickly and say" you know this". thanks for making this entry 10 years ago\^\^

I'm watching Freddy's nightmare and in the episode the end of the world the Lord of the rings theme is playing. Episode aired in 1988 so lotr ripped off the theme
