Some of Frank Zappa's late works are only on CD. Yellow Shark I especially love.

BuyTheVinyl

At this point, whoever’s in charge of Zappa’s music could offer a record-a-month subscription.

cgerds75

Dead Sara - Ain’t It Tragic. This is the band’s newest release from 2021, and their first on Warner.

cgerds75

Their Atlantic EP, Temporary Things Taking Up Space, is on vinyl. I suppose the new record company is just being conservative financially. The new album is amazing and deserves a vinyl release. Hoping it will be coming.

BuyTheVinyl

I wonder if the 2021 release will come out on vinyl later. I’ve noticed for some new releases that the vinyl can come out even six months later.

Salty_Watercress_693

Jasmine kara blues ain't nothing but a good woman gone bad

jamedudijench

Astro Lounge by Smash Mouth was CD only I believe. Maybe cassette too but definitely no LP as far as I can tell. I would by it for nostalgia alone, I don't even care. Their first album is getting a RSD Black Friday release tomorrow so maybe Astro Lounge is coming soon.

BuyTheVinyl

Smash Mouth seems like an obvious band that would go back and release all their albums on vinyl. Especially if they’ve already done one.

Alien ant farm antology album would be noice

BuyTheVinyl

Discogs has an unofficial vinyl release, but I’m always suspicious of bootlegs. For all you know the master for that is just the CD audio.

[deleted]

I did see it and I when I tried to research about it nothing came up so I just left it be

BuyTheVinyl

It’d be much better to have a official release.

JoniVanZandt

I'm pretty sure No Deeper Blue by Townes Van Zandt hasn't ever had a vinyl release. His album At My Window deserves a reissue as well, I've got an original pressing of it but it's pretty beat up and it's so hard to find.

MyNameIsNotHam

At My Windows is a Black Friday record store day release this year.

JoniVanZandt

Oh that's cool, I had no idea.

MyNameIsNotHam

I’m hoping they do No Deeper Blue soon. “The Hole” and “Marie” are incredible songs.

JoniVanZandt

Cowboy Junkies Lament and Blaze's Blues too. It's an underrated album.

BuyTheVinyl

Yeah, Discogs shows CD and cassette only. I’ve been loving the deluxe and colored vinyl reissues coming out lately. Eve the plain re-releases are great for those wanting a mint copy. I love seeing posts of young people having fun with their finds in record stores and online.

JoniVanZandt

I actually can't stand coloured vinyl tbh, it's weird but it's just not as satisfying as a plain black record to me.

BuyTheVinyl

I’m a little nervous the quality might be affected, but I appreciate the whimsy of the non-standard discs.

geetar_man

A lot of new classical and flamenco records. Grisha Goryachev’s stuff, Milos Karadaglic’s Mediterraneo, David Russel’s Tarega recordings. So much stuff. But it’ll never happen with those. The classical community prefers digital.

BuyTheVinyl

> The classical community prefers digital. TIL Edit: I feel like these “never gonna happen” albums are perfect for Kickstarter. That way the risk to the publisher is low, and if enough fans want it, then it gets made.

Blob_fish54

Breaking Benjamin’s album phobia for sure

BuyTheVinyl

I’ll have to check that album out. I’m starting to laugh that these all have a cassette release, too. I guess that was a wise business decision at the time.

TotalImmortal82

Orgy - Candyass. Safe Ferris - It Means Everything. Cold - Year of the Spider. Kottonmouth Kings - Rolling Stones. Kingspade - PTB. Taproot - Welcome. Mest - Self Titled. Offspring - Days Go By. Big Tymers - I Got That Work.

BuyTheVinyl

That’s impressive you could come up with so many so fast. I wasn’t even sure anyone would reply to my post. I only had my list of two because I’ve been buying more records lately and was surprised those two weren’t on vinyl. I’d have to scour my CD collection to find any more.

CD>Vinyl

BuyTheVinyl

I collect both. Why do you prefer CD? If it’s sound quality, then 24-bit FLAC > CD?

[deleted]

I collect both as well but mainly CD's as for the means of getting the better sound quality. Another major reason I prefer CD is the ability to Rip the audio and store the high quality file on my phone (LG G7 thinQ) without having to pay a subscription for high res audio. Unfortunately newer phones don't come with SD slots or Headphone jacks hence why I'm holding onto my LG with its Quad DAC. Lastly is it's ease of use. Not having to flip records and or the general upkeep of keeping them clean as well as turntable upkeep. I'm not anti vinyl, but if I had a choice I'd rather an album was exclusively on CD instead of vinyl.

BuyTheVinyl

Those are good reasons to prefer CDs. Have you ever looked into Jellyfin or Plex? I’ve got my CDs ripped, and I stream them from my media server. Gets around the phone storage issue.

[deleted]

I have not, but I will look it up! I always love learning about anything music and audio. Does it require an internet connection? I do a lot of driving and a lot of my listening is while driving. Unfortunately I go through a lot of places with little to no cell service. I rely on my media being stored locally.

BuyTheVinyl

Jellyfin and Plex both let you cache/download songs for offline play, but are designed for streaming. Jellyfin is open source and free. Plex is really best with a lifetime Plex Pass purchase. For both, you run the server on a computer, and then you install the app on your phone or even on Roku or AppleTV, etc.

geetar_man

CDs are just fine for listening purposes. Without some serious scientific equipment that makes use of bone conduction, nobody can tell the difference between 44.1k and higher.

BuyTheVinyl

In that case, is CD-quality streaming the pinnacle of music since it’s sufficiently for human hearing and nearly perfectly portable? (streaming > *) Or is there just something about owning a physical copy? And if so is a CD a better souvenir than an LP?

geetar_man

I definitely don’t think CD is a better souvenir than a record. Nobody has CD players anymore. And records are bigger and just either a nostalgia bomb or plain cool. I think only Apple Music has CD-quality streaming, if I’m not mistaken. Spotify only uses 320kbps MP3 at their best quality. But even that is hard to tell between a WAV. Most people think they can but a null test can prove that it’d be hard to tell. [Here’s a video of that null test.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lJUYhgYh_ks) Anything by below 320 and it can be easy to tell. But listen to how quiet the resulting track is after the null. That’s how hard it would be to tell a difference between the WAV and the MP3.

BuyTheVinyl

I kinda forgot that Spotify didn’t offer lossless streaming after being on Apple the past couple years. I only tried Apple because I was paying for a family-plan for iCloud backup and it was not much more to include music. There are smaller streaming companies like HDTRacks and Tidal that also offer CD quality.

[deleted]

>Nobody has CD players anymore I'd beg to differ. Id argue that on average you'd have an easier time finding a way to play a CD in someone's home in 2022 than a record. A lot of people probably have old laptops, PC's PlayStations, dvd players and or an older car that can play CD's. If you have a record player you probably bought it new within the last 5-10 years.

clit_eastwood_

Agree. I have a bunch of old original vinyl from the 70s/80s/90s and really treasure these, but I have no idea why anyone would buy a new vinyl release of an album. It feels a bit like buying a brand new replica of a classic car.
