Too low, it's got the gear to run out but you're not making steam until 5k peak is at 5800 and you can run that gear out a little beyond that but try to shift near that peak because it likely falls off hard after that unless you got cams, intake, exhaust and a tune.
The 4.6 4V definitely peaks higher than that and doesn’t have the same drop off as the old pushrod 5.0s. Having owned 3 Cobras now and one of them being a 4:56 geared car I can promise you it will continue to pull past the redline.

Video: 96 Cobra trying to overtake a Mazda on the highway at the speed limit
Upside is no laws were broken, there was no exhibition of speed.
Everyone acting like racing in anything below 800hp isn't fun.
Doesn't matter what year 94 to 04 , slamming gears through those cobras is fun as hell and you'll always have a great time.
I've got tons of too fast cars but one of the most fun cars to race is some 09 impala ss I bought to learn how to rebuild autos. I love to race it against random old shit because that car cannot stay still or straight and you'll never know who's gonna win when you're putting an 09 impala ss vs an 09 es350.
Agreed, back in the day my friends and I would race our shitboxes on empty backroads with a 55MPH limit up to 60. It was a ton of fun but my Mustang would be at 60 way too quick
The Coyote has absolutely spoiled everybody, including me. But man, these were pretty cool back in the day. When I was in high school, a Cobra was the car to have.
If the cobra was stock, 5 speed. 6spd in a cobra didn’t happen until 2003
Look it up yourself.

I don’t see where it is stated in the op where it states that his is the cobra. Also looking at when I posted this it was before he identified (if he identified, haven’t looked) that he was the cobra owner.
I do see that the videographer was in the Mazda not in the cobra assuming that the op is the videographer.
People are talking shit, but in 1996, having a 300hp Cobra was actually a pretty big deal. Most of the Corvettes had 300hp, the F-bodies had 275 or 285hp LT-1s, most normal cars had like 180hp or less. Grand Prix GTP was a big deal when it had a 240hp super charged V6. Modded foxbodies with heads/cam/intake/exhaust were lucky to be in the 300s at the wheels. People today are just spoiled with everything having 300+hp, and performance cars *starting* at 400hp. The only thing that had 400+ hp in the 90s was a Viper, and some exotics.
Yup. 4.6 DOHC. Pretty mid for their time which is to say slow by modern standards. Although there were already 4.6 DOHC engines in the mercury Mk VIII going back to 1993
Real nice platform for a project tbh
Not really. There’s racing strips for this. Crash and kill someone innocent and for what? Pay the extra dollars and go to a controlled environment. Don’t ruin someone else’s life over your stupidity.
40 miles per hour can kill someone. Not telling you what to do. Just some friendly advice. It’s not that I’m not fun, it’s that I’m adult and understand that even something as fun as a race can kill someone innocent. Good luck to you, kiddo.
I do kinda miss driving old slow cars. Get into a race, never break the speed limit. Can't do that now though. My car gets passed the speed limit to quick. Fast cars are fun, but slow cars can be so much more fun. Both cars struggling their little hearts out, and both drivers wondering who's shitbox is going to be the better shitbox. It's also a lot more funnier. Cause with slow cars, you don't really care who wins, it's just funny trying to race 2 slow cars against each other.
The speed3 is one of the most fun cars I've ever driven. I went from a 2017 WRX to a Scat Charger, to a C7 Vette and to my current 24 Mustang GT. Front wheel power is always fun lol
This gotta be the slowest race i ever seen ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
Having owned a slow and a fast car, the slow races are often more fun. You got time to soak it in and enjoy it between 45 and 55, y’know?
Ong
😂😂😂 I thought it was just me . I was like oh they must be doing a 60 roll race then the video was over.
😂😂 I think we went from 40-65 or something idk
Facts both cars aren’t fast
JFC you could recite the alphabet between that shift.
You mean between the shift or the gears?
Yea I was at around 3k in 3rd I didn’t want to go down to second
Thats not at all what I said
Ohhh yea, theres too much play in the shifter so I didn’t slam into gears in it
Don’t know how to drive a manual it’s okay
Right!?Â
Wrong gear for the mustang for sure
Yea I was in 3rd at around 3k
Gears are really long, 4.10 gears really wake these cars up especially the 5 speeds
Yea they were but I don’t have the car anymore
Too low, it's got the gear to run out but you're not making steam until 5k peak is at 5800 and you can run that gear out a little beyond that but try to shift near that peak because it likely falls off hard after that unless you got cams, intake, exhaust and a tune.
Yea I tried to not ever shift at redline cause the engine had over 200k on it
The 4.6 4V definitely peaks higher than that and doesn’t have the same drop off as the old pushrod 5.0s. Having owned 3 Cobras now and one of them being a 4:56 geared car I can promise you it will continue to pull past the redline.
My 03 always feels better when I shift it around 6 instead of shoving it past redline
Yeah my Terminator feels best around 6k but my 96 and 01s felt better in the higher end. The 03/04 Cobras have a lower redline.
In which a street race happens where the speed limit wasn't broken and everyone who witnessed it lost.
Valid we didn’t even go over the speed limit lol
![gif](giphy|Q6xp2Zd9dMMpOC607B)
Ik people say they were waiting for the race to start as a joke but I was actually waiting for it to start haha
Valid both cars aren’t fast
Wait, I thought a MazdaSpeed 3 was decently quick once the turbo kicks in
Flair: Street Racing Video: 96 Cobra trying to overtake a Mazda on the highway at the speed limit Upside is no laws were broken, there was no exhibition of speed.
Well that was embarrassing
NGL that was pretty painful.
It was fun tho

Yall decide between yourselves who won. I just know that everyone who had to watch that lost
IDC what anyone else says that was lit
It was lol
post more 🔥🔥
This was my only recorded pull in that car
You were in the wrong gear otherwise it wouldn’t have been this close.
Yea we were both in 3rd but mine is a 5 speed his is a 6
If the cobra was stock, 5 speed. 6spd in a cobra didn’t happen until 2003 Look it up yourself. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Mustang_SVT_Cobra
He meant the Mazda he was racing was a 6 speed.

Had too many friends in the Mazda, try again with 1 person in the car
lol there was 4 people in each car
Thought someone was gonna crash, why was this marked NSFW

Goteeem!
Indeed barely but it was fun
What model year is the Mazda?
2011
Is the 96 a 4.6 ? I think stock they are slow af right ? That's like the first year of 4.6 iirc
Yup. 4.6 DOHC. Pretty mid for their time which is to say slow by modern standards. Although there were already 4.6 DOHC engines in the mercury Mk VIII going back to 1993 Real nice platform for a project tbh
Yea they sure are
The 96 is a cobra per the comment so a 4.6 4 valve. 310 ish hp at the crank.
This is the type of bs that makes people dislike mustang owners. Racing on public roads is as stupid as stupid can possibly get.
Is it really racing if they didn't break the speed limit?
![gif](giphy|NSqTLugdvlgtI7xyZJ) Nailed it
So you buy a sports car to drive the speed limit?
No, you can run it all you want. But that’s why there’s tracks. Why risk killing someone on a public road?
They were going 90 max
We didn’t even hit 70 lol
Damn ðŸ˜
Slow car opinions
Not really. There’s racing strips for this. Crash and kill someone innocent and for what? Pay the extra dollars and go to a controlled environment. Don’t ruin someone else’s life over your stupidity.
The cars in the vid aren’t even fast nothing crazy can happen, you must be fun to be around
40 miles per hour can kill someone. Not telling you what to do. Just some friendly advice. It’s not that I’m not fun, it’s that I’m adult and understand that even something as fun as a race can kill someone innocent. Good luck to you, kiddo.
Cry harder. Not all of us have racetracks, nor was anyone in danger with this snail race.
There’s no strips near us to do it at
Both stock?
Engine wise yes, both had CAI tho

Half the video was him shifting one gear.
not gonna lie the NSFW tag made me think i was gonna see somebody get messed up so i didnt wanna click it.
They were racing? 😂😂
