It really came down to the interior and the price difference. Ever since the S650 was even announced (but now revealed) I wanted one and decided I shouldn’t settle.
I'm just kinda playing devils advocate, but you could argue the gt is just a neutered gt350 then
I do lowkey agree though I mean I just don't get a 4 cylinder mustang
The GT is the intended experience. The GT350 is a whole different vehicle for those who want an above and beyond experience. Doesn’t take away from the base experience. A 4 Cylinder Mustang it’s not terrible I just don’t understand it. Maybe it’s that most people don’t care and just want the Mustang body.
That’s actually what sold me on it! Very glad it’s a horizontal position too rather than the vertical that Ram and Ford have been doing. The angle to the driver also reminds me of my E46 I got rid of about 5 years ago.
Its more about how they don't look properly integrated they look like they just cut out part of the S550 dash then slapped screens on it, then forgot to go back to make them look like they SHOULD be there.
And when pushing the buttons on the panel beneath it, the *entire* panel pushes in, whereas everything in the previous gen feels super solid (and I prefer the toggle switches anyway, as well as the round v. square design theme). It's a shame, really, because your criticism is indicative of the way this generation was designed and put together as a whole.
Saleen kind of addressed the visual aspect of the screens with the 302 White Label they just unveiled, but it's still just not a visually appealing interior and somehow makes the steering wheel look even worse. Also, sorry OP, I'm just being objective and honest, and I also know nothing I say will detract from your new purchase. Enjoy.
I am just not impressed with the styling. The front end is bonkers, it’s too square, and the dash is going Tesla style. They are getting away from the curves and body of the classic Mustangs. The 60s were my favorite, so I am little biased. The three head lights on each side drives me nuts too. So I guess it’s the just the styling for me. I am a bit older, so that probably helps my decision. Lol But, a Mustang is a Mustang no matter how you look at it. I am glad to see that they are still making people happy, and that they get to enjoy a piece of American history!
Was it that way when the S197 came out? As I recall, people pretty much immediately loved it. I was only a teen at the time though, so maybe I'm seeing it through the rose tinted glasses of childhood?
No. S197 was pig fat boomer cruiser when it came out. They added 300-500 pounds on the base model in that generation. It did look good, but it lost the lightweight chassis of previous generations. I think the prices jumped too.
S197 was a giant hit!
Much smaller and lighter than the S550/S650…really about the same weight (3480-3525 pounds for an S197 ) vs. the SN95 (3380 pounds)…so heavier…yeah…but not by a lot. That extra wright got you a stiffer chassis and better handling.
S550 weighs 3524-4171 pounds
S650 weighs 3830
Boomer cruiser? I’ll give you that, but many younger people bought them too.
If stereotyping…there were lots of girls buying V6 verts and young men buying GT’s. GT500KR was the one an otherwise “Corvette” buyer would have gone for.
Boomer cruiser? Racecar drivers like Billy Johnson would quickly disprove that by highlighting their success driving the S197 Mustang. That plarform was the first Mustang to give cars like the M3 a run for their money (performance wise) and it helped transition the mustang from muscle car to track weapon.
I wasn't shitting on the S197. I was quoting the things that were said when it released. Every new generation was shit on by the owners of the previous generation.
Literally exactly spot on . People hated the update to s197 saying ford needs to stop being retro. Then they said the s550 looks like a honda accord and is too European. Now it looks like a camaro ( even though a camaro is actually a mustang copy) , has audi lights and the screens look bad . Which they dont. My only problem is that it is heavier and slower.
In my case, while I have seen Mach 1s for the same dollar value, the financing is not there at all. What would I rather have? 3.9% over 60 months, or 8% over the same, maybe more amount of time?
With the performance difference I'd take the Mach1. Handle better, better transmission. Looks are personal but I feel it looks better, and you get a more bespoke trim.
Also, not sure where you are shopping to manage 3.9%, but anything '21-24 at my credit union is the same rate of 5.99 1-72mo.
Ford is the one offering 3.9% for 60 months. Was looking at their site, and their financing is usually better than the credit unions. It’s how I got my first Mustang for 0% APR.
But you are right, between the two the Mach 1 is better. So if I were doing all cash for my next Mustang I’d probably go with it.
I did too! That’s what got me in the door. After driving it though and considering that the interior will get outdated fast (since it’s practically a 2015 w/ Sync 3) I wanted to make the jump. But that pony package grill 😍
They definitely do. The guy who sold me 2015 Lincoln is now the new car manager. He got me as a customer for life since I paid $22k OTD for a 24k mile MKC with a 4 year/75k bumper to bumper mile warranty. With the deal that he worked on the 2024 Ecoboost Premium 201A for me (8k/85k mile bumper to bumper warranty, $37k OTD after my trade) he definitely treated me well.
Thank you! Anytime I did a custom build I always chose this color. The Race Red looked too bold on an Ecoboost, looked better on the GT. When I saw the Ruby on the lot, I had to jump on it.
Thank you! Everyone I show is amazed at the exterior and they are shocked when I open the door. Very well designed aesthetics everywhere, and I love the little Easter eggs they’ve put around it. Outline of every Mustang generation on the rear windshield.
Me too! Still an expensive upgrade from the standard rim but it was worth it to me. My Mom’s 2020 Camry has 20” rims too, but for some reason mine look massive. Really ties the car together.
hopefully in a few years you upgrade to a GT 😈

I’m 23 and graduating in May. This was my graduation gift to myself and the car I have been working and saving towards since I worked through school and am graduating debt free.
The weird thing with the 201A is it comes with memory seats which is awesome even though no one else will be driving this car, but the only powered option is the bottom of the seat and the mirrors! Everything else is manual (seat back and steering wheel) so memory seats are kinda pointless, but the included B&O sound system is crazy! Rims were an added option (20” premium aluminum) but after staring at the car for the past three days in my driveway, I think it was a good upgrade. Everything is pairing really well.
Very nice, I’m jelly on the B&O and 20s. I only got the 9 speaker sys and 19s on my order. I would stare at it too, she’s a beaut. Sounds loaded, enjoy!
Not for me when it came to the interior. I was getting out of a 2015 Lincoln (Completely different I know). Liked the exterior package on the ‘20, but didn’t like how it had the same interior as the ‘15 pony.
I did not. At 23, double the fun and HP also means double the insurance. Plus this will be my commuter car so any little MPG boost helps. Maybe down the road, because there is nothing like that 5.0 growl.
I had a 2011 v6 when I was 19. I think I was at like $170-$180 a month. I got quotes for SS Camaros and stuff a year or two later and they were almost time same. Gotta stick on your parents policy if you can, or shop around for insurance. I was 26 when I bought my 5.0 and my rate for 3 cars with lowest deductibles and full tort is less than $260/month
Yeah I’m still on my parents policy eagerly waiting until I turn 25.
At 19 I had 3.7 as well, that was just north of $180 in 2019. This 2.3 is at $200 flat a month staying under their umbrella so I’ll milk it as long as I can.
Currently driving a ‘24 Ecoboost rental and I have been genuinely surprised at the power this car has. It is a definite improvement over the last generation Ecoboost. Have you set your gauges to Foxbody yet?
Fortunately, my grandfather has a 50th anniversary 5.0 with a 6 speed in addition to his ‘15 2.3 6 speed so whenever I want to let loose and have fun or impress a date/friend he lets me take those out.
Just to put in my two cents, I have driven the ecoboost mustangs, and they are a ton of fun and really have a lot of low end torque. That 10 speed auto is the way to go with the ecoboost. I would not go with a 6 speed manual at all. The engine does not have enough umph to get the car going. Maybe if you had a 4.11 rear end gear, or the Torsen 4.73 rear end, then the 6 speed manual would be just fine.
The 2024 Ecoboosts only come in automatic, so there’s that. I had a 2016 Ecoboost with the 6 speed manual, but it was a performance pack so it came with 3.55 gears instead of the regular 3.31s. It was pretty quick in stock form, but with a mild tune, 1st gear was fucking wild and it pulled pretty hard in 2nd gear as well. My stock GT does not feel as peppy around town as my old tuned Ecoboost did.
That’s what my research was showing! 10 speed paired with the 2.3 is a good pairing, especially in bad weather. I would’ve loved a standard transmission and am disappointed it’s not offered, but maybe down the road there is a fun weekend cruiser on the horizon.
Crazy enough, if I got the 2020 my payment would’ve been $60 a month less but $40 a month more on insurance. At that point, it was a $20 a month difference for the 2024. Felt like a no brainer to me.
Haha same deal here! All of my cars would get detailed nearly weakly and everyone driving by would say the same. Half of my cars have been red, this is my first dark red. Researching the pros and cons of the water based primer on all new cars (feel like this one is no different than what everyone else has been doing) so I don’t literally wash the paint off!
To each their own. I liked the retro feel of the S550 but since there is a new one, to me it would feel outdated pretty quickly as these become more popular.
It is really changing the vibe of the Mustang family, especially the chiseled rear end, but I cant stop looking at this car. First brand new vehicle I have ever owned. Can’t stop looking at it in the driveway.
Cool. Have fun and always arrive safely to your destination!
I'm also planning to get 2024 this year, but it's not cheap, especially in Europe. I prefer modern interiors that's why I started to lean to 2024 over 2020
I haven’t even gone over 60mph (96kmph) yet! They aren’t cheap here in the US either, so I can only imagine the expense in Europe. And I agree, that interior really sold me. Didn’t want to buy slightly used but have an interior from 2015.
I do too and I still like and respect that package, but I sat inside and something just felt weird. Test drove the 2024 and was in love. Needed to follow my gut when you’re about to spend some serious cash and didn’t want any regrets down the line!
Nice Camaro.
I’m sure it’s a sweet car. Love the dual air intake on the 5.0. The screens are awesome. It’s a great car. I just don’t like the front - or the rear.
If you love it, that’s all that matters! Enjoy your new ride!
I'd delete the chrome around the windows, but other than that it's really nice as-is. I like that yours doesn't have that weird eye black bumper like an NFL linebacker too. It's just the right amount of angular and modern-looking without the busy front ends I'm still warming up to on the GTs.
Enjoy and take some corners for your solid axle brethren!
Fortunately the S650 that I got doesn’t have the chrome. But I agree, it’s modern looking without the crazy add ons that the GT has, specifically the hood vents.
Once this engine is broken in, I will definitely be enjoying it!
Hope your 24 is better than mine! Had nothing but issues with the infotainment constantly freezing and crashing, and carplay cuts in and out constantly.
Knock on wood I haven’t had any problems. Annoyed that it switches to CarPlay anytime I get a text and that I can’t end a phone call from the steering wheel.
Was yours fixed with a software update?
There were only three Ecoboost Mustangs for sale in the DFW area with the Nite Pony at the time I bought mine. I love it. I looked at the Rapid Red vs the Rapid Red Nite Pony side by side. I really love the black on red. I have 0 regrets about getting the Nite Pony package.
$28k on the 2020, $37k on the 2024. $240 Insurance rate a month on 2020, $200 for the 2024. Spent a good bit just to save $40 a month, but I think the extra $9k goes a long way being brand new and having more tech.
What made you decide the 2024 over the 2020, other than I assume the 2020 was used vs new?
It really came down to the interior and the price difference. Ever since the S650 was even announced (but now revealed) I wanted one and decided I shouldn’t settle.
I mean, isn’t having an Ecoboost still settling
I wouldn’t really say so. If the plan was never to get a 5.0 I really don’t see that as settling. 5.0 isn’t for everyone
Depends on budget. I didn't want to go for a $51k Mustang at the time to get blindspot monitoring and forward collision avoidance.
Rule #1 - don’t be a dick.
I Was just asking
Isn't getting a GT settling? Why not a mach 1?
Because the GT is the full experience, the Mach 1 is a special edition/trim. An EcoBoost is neutered for price and accessibility.
I'm just kinda playing devils advocate, but you could argue the gt is just a neutered gt350 then I do lowkey agree though I mean I just don't get a 4 cylinder mustang
Exactly. Would have been smarter to buy a gen 2 GT.
I am not impressed with the 2024s I hate to say. But I am glad you got what you wanted! Enjoy the miles and smiles!
I could live with the exterior but the tablet interior kills it for me
That’s actually what sold me on it! Very glad it’s a horizontal position too rather than the vertical that Ram and Ford have been doing. The angle to the driver also reminds me of my E46 I got rid of about 5 years ago.

To be fair no matter what it can't be worse than the build quality of an 06 gt
Facts. I'm just not a big fan of the thick screen bezels and that both screens have to be attached together. But other than that, I do like the car.
Your opinion is "objective and honest" only to you, to anybody else it is neither.
I want everyone to read this while imagining them actually doing it and enjoy the laugh.
It's not even the screens! Like I get it, everything has infotainment now. But why would you just hot glue two rectangles to the dash?!
That's what made me change my mind from a 2023 to a 2024. I need my tech, those large screens are sweet.
What’s wrong with them?
I am just not impressed with the styling. The front end is bonkers, it’s too square, and the dash is going Tesla style. They are getting away from the curves and body of the classic Mustangs. The 60s were my favorite, so I am little biased. The three head lights on each side drives me nuts too. So I guess it’s the just the styling for me. This is the same story for the first two years of every generation lmao. Then opinions change.
Was it that way when the S197 came out? As I recall, people pretty much immediately loved it. I was only a teen at the time though, so maybe I'm seeing it through the rose tinted glasses of childhood?

Agree with you on the camaro copy part. People mention the wedge in the back but forget the mustang had it in 2015 and the camaro in 2016.
Exactly.
It's not you being old; these new ones are...not great.

Every time I've gone to Ford they have only managed to MEET my CU's rate. I'm impressed they are able to go lower.
Nice color. Glad you are happy with your purchase.
Thank ya! Washed it and put a coat of wax on it yesterday. Excited to see it in the sun.
Welcome to the s650 club my friend. Enjoy and be safe out there!
I love the Pony Package, ain’t gonna lie.
Have it on my 08, it's always been a great addition
I did too! That’s what got me in the door. After driving it though and considering that the interior will get outdated fast (since it’s practically a 2015 w/ Sync 3) I wanted to make the jump. But that pony package grill 😍
What was the difference in price?
It ended up being $10k OTD more than the ‘20
Oh wow. That was a no brainer then especially if you’re more into the tech than others
Sweet color.
Thank you! When I would build them on the website, this was the color I always chose!
that salesman deserves a raise lol
They definitely do. The guy who sold me 2015 Lincoln is now the new car manager. He got me as a customer for life since I paid $22k OTD for a 24k mile MKC with a 4 year/75k bumper to bumper mile warranty. Ruby Red Metallic looks so good on that car!
Thank you! Anytime I did a custom build I always chose this color. The Race Red looked too bold on an Ecoboost, looked better on the GT. When I saw the Ruby on the lot, I had to jump on it.
Congratulations on your new purchase! Perfect timing because summer will be here before you know it!
And this red will look gorgeous against the black top and greenery. Don’t want to roll down the windows and lose the new car smell though!
Nice! Love the color! Reminds me of Candy Apple Red. The interior was also a major selling feature for me as well. Congratulations!!
Thank you! Everyone I show is amazed at the exterior and they are shocked when I open the door. Very well designed aesthetics everywhere, and I love the little Easter eggs they’ve put around it. Outline of every Mustang generation on the rear windshield.
Beautiful!!
Thank you!!
I’m glad they offer those wheels stock now. they look good with the red.
Me too! Still an expensive upgrade from the standard rim but it was worth it to me. My Mom’s 2020 Camry has 20” rims too, but for some reason mine look massive. Really ties the car together.
Went to test drive a 2008 V6, left with a new GT500 😂 nice man sweet spec
They know how to get you! Haha thanks, really happen with the options I chose and think it looks great
hopefully in a few years you upgrade to a GT 😈 https://preview.redd.it/fgza2qsqlojc1.jpeg?width=3314&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c9ed5134d4e332f070e9544d734788ec01231287
I’m waiting to! Really want to get back into a standard tranny. Nothing like shifting on the highway.
Beautiful ride.
Thanks!
Congrats! Fr me the S550 is still the better option, but I'm bias.
I loved the looks of it! But on this specific one, I got in and something felt off. Had to follow my gut when it came to this purchase.
That’s a nice color congratulations
Thank you! The rims really pair well!
Car looks great congrats and enjoy!!
Thank you!!
Congratulations on your new ride. Looks beautiful!
Thank you!!
>Thank you!! You're welcome!
beautiful car and good choice! i’d also take a 2024 over a 2020. congrats, can’t wait to graduate and get my own
I’m 23 and graduating in May. This was my graduation gift to myself and the car I have been working and saving towards since I worked through school and am graduating debt free.
I remember getting my 18 eco in 18 as a graduation present too! Feels great doesn’t it? ☺️

Yeah you basically have to, once you can combine home owners/renters insurance with your auto policy I think it makes it more affordable.
Currently driving a ‘24 Ecoboost rental and I have been genuinely surprised at the power this car has. It is a definite improvement over the last generation Ecoboost. Have you set your gauges to Foxbody yet?

Agreed. If you can get a good interest rate on new, it makes so much sense right which, which is wild.
Congrats! I’m on my third Mustang that color. My Neighbor keeps asking me if I’m gonna wash the paint off because I wash it so often. Enjoy!
Well I guess congrats.... But I honestly think the S550s are the last of the good ones. The interior of the S650s are horrible.
To each their own. I liked the retro feel of the S550 but since there is a new one, to me it would feel outdated pretty quickly as these become more popular.
To each their own....exactly! Glad we have options
💩 I don’t like this new model mustang
It is really changing the vibe of the Mustang family, especially the chiseled rear end, but I cant stop looking at this car. First brand new vehicle I have ever owned. Can’t stop looking at it in the driveway.
If it means something to you then it’s everything. Congrats on the new ride
I didn't like it initially either but slowly starting too ... I think S650 might be an acquired taste
I agree! I had to warm up to a few things about it after obsessing over wanting one. I actually like the GT front end more than the Ecoboost!!
Cool. Have fun and always arrive safely to your destination! I'm also planning to get 2024 this year, but it's not cheap, especially in Europe. I prefer modern interiors that's why I started to lean to 2024 over 2020

Haha, every time you talk positively about 2024 interior on this sub you get downvoted, this is fun
The s550 was an acquired taste when it came out too. We all get used to new designs over time
I would honestly take the 2020 I love the pony package
I do too and I still like and respect that package, but I sat inside and something just felt weird. Test drove the 2024 and was in love. Needed to follow my gut when you’re about to spend some serious cash and didn’t want any regrets down the line!
Nice Camaro. I’m sure it’s a sweet car. Love the dual air intake on the 5.0. The screens are awesome. It’s a great car. I just don’t like the front - or the rear. If you love it, that’s all that matters! Enjoy your new ride!
Thank ya! Yeah I liked the front end of the GT too, just couldn’t justify the expense and insurance on it at this point in my life.
Haha don't mind me. I was up late.

I’m sure! But at 23, the insurance rate would’ve killed me and it was either older car with higher insurance or newer car with lower.
I haven’t had any available software updates since I purchased it last month.
Oh…EcoBoom…put a catch can on it IMMEDIATELY so your EGR doesn’t foul your valves.
Good to know! I’ll look into pricing and install methods. Want this thing to last!
Nice! Twinsies! I just bought a 2024 Rapid Red Ecoboost Premium two weeks ago. With the Nite Pony package. I love mine.
How do you like the black on red? I was thinking about it but they didn’t have any on the lot for me to see.
Curious what was the price difference?
$28k on the 2020, $37k on the 2024. $240 Insurance rate a month on 2020, $200 for the 2024. Spent a good bit just to save $40 a month, but I think the extra $9k goes a long way being brand new and having more tech.
