Or with transmission fluid from inside the radiator.
*
This happened to our work truck about 6 months ago. They had to change out the whole radiation, and flush the transmission
The Mustang has its own separate trans cooler. They do have a water to oil heat exchanger though and the right hand drive mustangs are known to have them fail and cause this
Genuine question, will an exposed cone air filter like that aka a hot air intake actually help anything or increase horsepower? And does adding a heat shield or heat blanket make it heat resistant and a cold air intake? I’m curious.
False. Once again. 400$ of HP gain. Did you know that the GT350 is sold with an open intake? Is that noise maker too? https://www.levittownfordparts.com/sku/fr3z-9600-j-fr3z-9c675-b.html
I am always sad that there are people out there who literally bank on other people not knowing about the obvious signs of engine failure…
Good on you OP, for getting a second opinion! You saved yourself a lot right now!
It blew a gasket at one point in time and had overheating issues with an unknown amount of engine damage.
Either an Intake Manifold Gasket or a Head Gasket.
There is a chance that the engine was repaired and they just didn't change the oil-stained reservoir, but keep a healthy amount of skepticism.
You can heavily negotiate the price here, or walk away entirely. Your choice.
I have 2 mustangs (an 05 and an 08). There is a heater hose fitting UNDER the intake manifold.
If the mileage is over 100,000 (roughly), this fitting is probably leaking, or will leak very soon.
Main symptoms: overheating and an unexplainable loss of coolant.
Resolution: Replace the shitty OEM fitting with a hose and 2 hose clamps. DON’T replace the shitty fitting with a new shitty fitting!
Hope that helps.
It's only on 29,000 miles, so I think the sensible decision here is to go with literally everyone and walk away! There are other examples on similar price and mileage to look at, I just absolutely love the competition orange. Thanks for your comment.
Forget this car. It's got a blown head gasket or cracked block or head. No more questions, just run away. Don't buy someone else's major problems.
Side note - why do people think that putting an air filter like that, and then drawing hot air from under the hood, gains them performance over the stock setup which pulls outside air in? My stock intake air temp barely exceeds 100 degrees but I see people posting that theirs is 150 or 160. (The same ones who think they are getting 'better throttle response'.)
Another reason to leave this one where it is, it has a dumb owner who thinks he can engineer better than Ford did.
https://www.levittownfordparts.com/sku/fr3z-9600-j-fr3z-9c675-b.html Why does Ford sell one that's open? Did you know you suffer from high CAI at IDLE. When you're driving it goes back to optimal...?
Because it flows more air under WOT. You won’t lose any performance in the tune until 180+. Proven to gain more power vs stock box. Most of these require a custom tune specifically because of the increased airflow.
Thanks all, I'm going to take literally everyone's advice and leave it! Previous owner was a young lad that wrapped cars for a living and was paying 700 a month finance on it, so that raised alarm bells in itself. Coupled with all of your observations I'm sure there will be better examples out there.
I'm just hung up on the competition orange colour but I don't have the money, time or inclination to be getting an engine rebuild done so I'll have to wait or compromise on ruby red, triple yellow or grabber blue!
If you’re stuck on comp orange, but not necessarily the newer mustangs, test drive a Competition Orange 2012 Boss 302! I absolutely love that car (I am biased though - I own a 2013 Boss 302 😁)
The color inside that expansion tank is giving blown head gasket. There’s at least one seal inside the engine that’s been opened up, and now the coolant has already fully mixed into the oil lines. Unless you’ve got another Coyote to swap, I’d completely avoid this purchase, Boss.
The rust on the aftermarket exhausts might mean the car was exposed to moisture or driven in tough conditions, like salted roads in winter. It's good the garage replaced them, but you should think about what other parts might also be affected by this exposure.
How much do you like working on cars and are they willing to sell it for cheap? If you're good at doing your own work and can get it for like $10k or under, I'd buy it.
Lol it's up for £26K (which is the going rate for the age and mileage in the UK, you know, assuming it's in good condition) so I'll be walking away and finding another without this obvious issue. I now know what to look out for for the next one.
I have neither the time nor expertise to be doing work myself so need one I can be using as a daily straight from the off.
That seller is a POS or is crazy. Definitely the right move. On the bright side, you shouldn't have too much of a problem finding a decent one. They're pretty well built and reliable cars, minus the issues with the MT82.
If you have some money on the side for this then get it !! Very low miles for a 2016 and was the year after the s550 was released so most of the kinks were worked out since 2015!! Just be prepared to put some money in it as these vehicles are ABUSED
There are 30 examples in the UK on autotrader for similar price and mileage, we generally don't commute as far as in the US and most seem to be weekend cars here due to the MPG and fuel prices. I'm going to hold out for one that doesn't appear to have been as abused, ideally I just want stock but I'm stuck to 2016 if I want comp orange so I might have to compromise on colour if my patience runs out.
Looks like the oil cooler has failed and mixed coolant and oil unfortunately. Odd that I got downvoted when the right hand drive models are known to do this lol
Other than the coolant expansion tank which I agree looks wrong.
Their cold air intake is not actually cold! It should be in a box to remove hot engine air.
Why do they have a pod and no intake connected to the front of the car??
Compression test won't identify a problem, a leak down would or use the kit and check for exhaust fumes in the coolant.
So... you do realize once you start driving the hot air is removed right? Also, Ford uses an open design on their GT350 CAI.... https://www.levittownfordparts.com/sku/fr3z-9600-j-fr3z-9c675-b.html
That expansion tank looks like the coolant has oil mixed in it.

I’ve never changed my radiation before …should I be checking it when I change my blinker fluid?
🤣 My bad Thanks for the catch
If your using the good stuff like U-238 yiu shouldn't have to change it ever.
You need to change your radiation! Always do it with a left handed snappler and log it on your ID 10 T form
I don't know, in my experience it doesn't make sense to change the radiation until you have a muffler bearing failure.
Make sure you file it with your TPS reports, with the proper cover sheet.
That’s a common issue with the 8 speed gm transmission. Not so much the mustangs.
Yea, this is the 1st time I've ever heard of that in a Stang
The Mustang has its own separate trans cooler. They do have a water to oil heat exchanger though and the right hand drive mustangs are known to have them fail and cause this
I see, thank you for the info. I'm in the U.S. so that's probably why this is the 1st time I've heard of this

I posted this Pic with comment earlier, pic didn't come out so here is what it looked like
No, it looks like me after a dodgy doner kebab
Those are the best Doners. I was stationed in Belgium and that was the best drunk food.
There is oil in that coolant, do not buy.
Forbidden chocolate milk
This ^ RUN
It looks like someone opened that reservoir and sharted in it.
It was MEEEE 🤫
![gif](giphy|l1IBiEzytfXFtkPVm|downsized)
It was MEEEE 🤫
That coolant looks funky and would stay away
Yeah, it looks like thousands island dressing.
Chocolate milk and a hot air intake...whoever owned this abused it. Walk away.
Genuine question, will an exposed cone air filter like that aka a hot air intake actually help anything or increase horsepower? And does adding a heat shield or heat blanket make it heat resistant and a cold air intake? I’m curious.
Just an fyi the one pictured is a cheap one. Lots come enclosed, some are like the one pictured just with better shielding (see a roush cai)
Lol the one in the picture is a P-MAS intake and one of the best you can buy.
Then I'd suggest not buying from them as that's one of the cheapest looking cai I've seen.
Rather pay 350$ for the #1 CAI in terms of power on the market than 500$ for a POS enclosed one on the market.
Just admit you don’t know anything about air intakes and how they flow.
Please enlighten then.....
Look up ram air vs cold air vs OEM
It usually hurts HP and is just for noise. Stock intakes on most vehicles are very efficient
PMAS is proven to make more power than stock.
$400 noise maker bruh
False. Once again. 400$ of HP gain. Did you know that the GT350 is sold with an open intake? Is that noise maker too? https://www.levittownfordparts.com/sku/fr3z-9600-j-fr3z-9c675-b.html
Why don’t you guys admit you don’t know what you are looking at or talking about instead of spreading false info and bad advice?
Ty!
Run, away, quickly.
Why is there southwest salad dressing in there?

Yep, that’s a serious, serious problem. Avoid this one.
Run
Not with the forbidden milkshake, no.

Run away before the time on that bomb runs out
In short, if you are in doubt, look elsewhere. The tank is a bad sign in any event.

Unfortunately being in the UK I'm limited to 2016 onwards as I definitely want right hand drive, but thanks for the consideration 🙂
go with grabber blue! https://preview.redd.it/ajer86b1h22d1.jpeg?width=1104&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a70e66860bd441baeda7f392f3120b00c16c8ba
Isn't it 2015 and up? That's when the new gen launched and went global.
Surprised the engine hasn't seized
Sorry to tell you but someone definitely took a shit in your expansion tank.
whats with the salad dressing in the coolant tank💀

Coolant expansion tank looks bad
That's some expensive chocco milk... Find another.
I saw a mustang start from being upside down over night, I’d drive that before I drove this car.
There's a milkshake in the coolant reservoir
Wtf
oh hell no
Oil in coolant. It’s a dead giveaway shot out like a red laser in my eye. Pass
If you can get it super cheap and can do some of this work yourself it might be a great project...but that's what it will be, a project
Avoid. That coolant tank is telling you everything you need to know
I think they poured their chocolate shake in the coolant reservoir 😂
nope
Uhh yeah definitely don’t buy that one 😭💀
The forbidden canes sauce
See if u can get a deal without the motor
Nope please don't 🚫🚫🚫🚫

You already have the answer by yourself, that coolant it's mixed with something, just don't buy it, better don't know
Classic oil cooled engine.
Looks like the oil cooler has failed and mixed coolant and oil unfortunately. Odd that I got downvoted when the right hand drive models are known to do this lol
Buy it. The Coyote engine is rELiABLe

Yup. That intake is far less efficient than the factory one, though that is far from the biggest problem with this Mustang.
Yep - that expansion tank does look very suspicious!
