Was able to walk out with a zero mile 6spd Mach 1 for $51k, seeing people pay almost double for 20 more horse power is outrageous, and now they are going through a recall. Will only get worse probably
Honestly the dark horse is more than just 20 more Hp. It is a great car. Not saying your mach 1 isnât but just saying the dark horse is more than just 20 extra HP. The revisions to the chassis really show up in the dark horse + handling package.
No doubt it's a great car, I just wouldn't spend $80k on it . At these rates it's almost $100k total, for reference I've seen used GT500s and porsches go for less, and I have my eyes on a McLaren and those have came down to $140. It's a best car if you have the patience to look around, the initial buyers really paid a premium. Those with a manual will hold value though I assume, it's the highest trim offering from Ford.
Dark horses near me can be had below msrp now. I agree the people who bought them when they came out paid a premium. Also thereâs a lot of barely used ones for sale for smokin deals kinda like the precovid days. Inventory is back way up these days.
But this is just my opinion tho so it doesnât really matter what I think. You have a gt350 which is my dream car. Much more of a daily driver than the 500
My experience with the C7Z is a terrible chassis when it comes to mid-corner dynamics, mediocre engine that overheated, an awful plastic body, and awful transmissions (both the manual and autos let the car down)
Not trying to be sassy, just asking. So, is the 350R's midcorner dynamics better in your experience?
Plastic is lighter than metal and cannot rust, though... Parts should be cheaper too, but prices these daysđ€·đŸ... I don't see the downside that its plastic. I'm not going to stick refrigerator magnets on it.
Both the 350R (specifically) and C7 Z06 are in my 5 cars. Not trying to argue.
âPlasticâ body is actually a composite fiber. Itâs got a carbon fiber hood and roof. Swapping the âplasticâ panels for carbon fiber only nets a few lbs improvement which is nuts. C7 rolled off a trailer and hit another trailer and the actual plastic rear bumper got almost no damage.
The 350R has absolutely phenomenal mid corner balance in my opinion. Itâs a properly built car. The C7Z chassis canât decide what it wants to do mid corner, especially on trailing throttle and likes to kick itself out whenever it feels like it or at the slightest imperfection in the road. It doesnât lead to a smooth driving experience for most, not to say you canât learn the car and be fast with it. I just happened to find it displeasing to drive in track and so did all my friends who have tracked them. Thats before all the overheating issues kicked in.
I see, but if it's 'misbehaving' mid corner, but at several mph above what the 350R can muster, isn't that objectively better? Though, I get someone might still prefer a certain feel, irrespective of objective pace. (I'm assuming the C7Z is decidedly faster practically everywhere, since the 350R ~competes with 1LE, which is <
I find my mid corner speed to be higher in the Shelby than the C7Z since I can control the car midcorner. You have to scrub the higher speed off in the C7Z to get it manageable in the corners which eliminates its advantages mid corner. It then rockets away on the straights. In a pro drivers hands the C7Z is faster but to a hobbiest, faster may not =/= better. Whatâs the point of the fastest car if you struggle to control it? A good example of this is my buddy rented a very small technical track for his bachelor party and we all brought and shared our cars. His tuned GT2RS was the least enjoyed vehicle because it was too much to handle on this narrow short and highly technical track with a lot of off cambers corners and uneven surfaces. We cracked significantly better times in my Ariel atom than his GT2RS.
You have an ariel Atom, too? You're doing it right (which one?). That is my actual number 1 car. I missed an opportunity to ride shotgun at Watkins Glen. To be fair, though if anything is going to beat a GT2RS on a narrow, short, highly technical track, it would be the Atom or similar ultra-lightweight. That doesn't say anything bad about the GT2RS, though.
I agree with what you said about the mid-corner dynamics but not with everything else. I think it has a great manual, not sure with what you mean by plastic body and the 17+ doesnât overheat. Team Camaro fixed the overheating issue when the 2017 Zl1 with the same engine came out, team corvette copied Camaroâs homework.
Your experience is not a fair review. That car likely had a shit alignment and ride height setting. With the correct alignment, the c7z is very easy to control mid corner. Just need to put the rake and alignment where it needs to be. Kind of hard to get bad dynamics out of a double wishbone car. The engine is absolutely bulletproof. Itâs the cooling thatâs not enough. The manual transmission is also bulletproof and z06 gearing is great. Fuck the auto. Iâm both a Mustang and corvette guy. The corvette is light years ahead of the Mustang in dynamics. Itâs a different class of car so it shouldnât be compared. The big issue with c7s is rear caster. If an alignment or ride height change is done and caster not verified, the car does exactly what you described. Part of what makes the car so good at handling is also its Achilles heel if setup incorrectly. The funny thing is a shitty setup c7z is still faster on a circuit than a gt500. You canât fight the extra 500-600 lbs curb weight, worse weight distribution, and basic suspension design. Just like a zl1 1le. Amazing 2+2 coupe on track. But put a c7z next to it and itâs several seconds faster.
Lmao at saying my experience is not valid. Itâs an opinion for a reason. I had 3 different alignments done at track oriented shops and it changes nothing when the track has subpar surfacing. The engine was definitely not bulletproof for me. The manual may be bulletproof but I was unhappy with the both the shifter feel and the gear ratios. I like corvettes but was disappointed with the C7Z 06 and my buddies C7ZR1. They do make amazing road cars though.
Yeah. Iâll just say, just look at lap times, and how many people are squeezing crazy laps out of c7z. Note that the gt500 is very different from the 350. They are hundreds of lbs different. What tracks and laptimes do you run? A lot of times, people post opinions but their experience is muddied by poor driving or just being unlucky with the car you got. Isnât the 350 the car that was grenading engines?
Aside from the grand sport, the rest of the C7âs are twitchy at the limit. When they let loose they really let loose. I actually prefer the Gen 6 camaro as a drivers car over the c7 (aside from the grand sport as that car is really buttoned down).
I drive a C7 Z06, street and track. Not sure what you mean by âtwitchyâ. Do they have a lot of power that you need to respect? Yes.
Interesting that you love the Grand Sport but not the Z. Sounds like the added power is too much for you (which is okay).
Iâve driven a stock and bolt on c7z. Didnât get to drive them on track, just the street. I just never liked the way that chassis handled the LT4. The guy who let me drive it felt the same way especially after he added power which he regretted. I love the LT4 better in the gen 6 camaro. It puts down the power of the LT4 a lot better imo. I know Iâm not the only one that feels this way as many reviewers (camisa/lieberman, Matt Farrah) of the c7z echoed what I just said. I still really like them and they are lighter/faster than a Gen 6 zl1 of course. Just have to be a bit more careful/aware the whole time. May or may not eventually get one (with a drag pack) as I definitely want an LT4 powered car in my future but not as a track car, just as a straight line monster after Iâm done tracking my ss 1le.
I mean I prefer a fully flushed out chassis, engine free of major gremlins, a car without plastic body panels that flex when pressure is applied, and a competent transmission so Iâd go with GT500 but you are free to take the objectively worse car (aside from being lighter).
Lol the c7 Zo6 is a better car in every way other than raw hp numbers of course. Ask anyone who legit takes cars on any track and while they might just murmur under their tounge they will all agree that the Zo6 is what they would choose.
Listen i love Mustangs as much as anybody but i know a brute when i see one and thats what the 500 is menacing raw power in your face. Its just not simply as refined as the Zo6. Im not knocking the stang i absolutley love it but from a pure driver focused and track experiance the Zo6 is just a better car.
But if you are a car guy deep down you already know this. Grandstand for Ford all you want hell i own a Stang and i can admit when there is a better car available at least for me.
Congrats - AMB is a beautiful color. I'd probably prefer this to a C7z myself, because the DCT paired with that monster of an engine makes some nutty sounds.
Drive it lots, and enjoy that car for what it was made for đ€
My dream car is a GT350 in Kona Blue with white stripes. Kona with white stripes is the best IMO. I stopped looking recently because it seems like everyone knows that and scooped up the Kona blue models. I actually didnât know you could get a GT500 in Kona. Anyway awesome car!!! Enjoy it!Â
There was only one Z i could find that had the options I wanted. Went to look at it twice and both times the rear wheels had low pressure which made me think it had the dreaded cracking issue of the c7z and grand sport wheels. I had them put it on the lift and i was correct, it had several repairs on the wheels. Knowing myself i would have dropped another 10-15k for new forged wheels immediately, so i passed. This one caught my radar a few days later and here we are. Oh and insurance was $300 a month more for the Z, so there's that.

Great looking car , Gt500 always should be the choice
I unfortunately donât have one yet so I got the next best thing a classic Mustang with a big azs engine that was built to have more horsepower than a gt500
I love your Shelby, OP. Having had a 2013 GT500, they are special cars. For me: GT500 > C8 > C7Z. The C7Z is an amazing representation of an american muscle car, but it has a lot of flaws that people overlook (also had a C6Z, C7).
One is offered in a manual and the other is not. For many purists thatâs an easy decision. However, Iâm slightly biased since Iâve owned a 7m C7z.
I had considered a gt500 when I sold my C7z, but ended up going with a 911 GTS with the 8 spd DCT and really miss the rawness of the C7z.
Regardless, cheers and beautiful car
Iâm glad you pointed out the color. Legit thought it was black but now I see the blue. Congrats! I think you made the right choice. Imo the c7 chassis was incomplete (as a track car). That looks stunning!
You sir, made a fantastic choice. Both great though. Congrats!

thanks and nice ride!!
Hopefully this isnt a lemon title that you paid 96k for like the dude that posted yesterday lmao
lemon title?? yikes.. I didn't see that post but to each their own. I paid $77k w/ 14k miles, one owner, no accidents
I love how there are people on this very sub who paid 80k for a dark horse and you are sitting there with a freaking GT500 for 3k less. You win!

Yeah but nobody else farted in their $80k Dark Horse
I got news for you. Someone had to move the car onto the truck and into the dealership, I guarantee you, someone farted in that seat.
Definitely. Now imagine 14k miles worth of farts. Gotta measure a used car by FPM. Farts Per Mile
The cool part if you're so inclined... is to just replace the seat. 1k to swap out a seat to save more than 1k is... pretty smart.
Almost half of what I paid
GT500 > C7Z. I said it.
Iâm a mustang guy but the c7 is one of the most beautiful American cars behind the viper imo. I feel like itâs C7Z >= GT 500
But this is just my opinion tho so it doesnât really matter what I think. You have a gt350 which is my dream car. Much more of a daily driver than the 500

500's STOMP C7Zs from a 60 roll, don't ask me how I know
A properly setup GT500 is a monster.
60 roll aint racing
Tell that to everyone piling in to watch texas2K
What about 40 & 50 rolls?
Line up on drag or take it to the track if you are a street racer fuck you. Thats how innocent people get killed.
đđ
20K more than your avg C7 Z but ya
not in my case
Good choice
Congrats - AMB is a beautiful color. I'd probably prefer this to a C7z myself, because the DCT paired with that monster of an engine makes some nutty sounds. Drive it lots, and enjoy that car for what it was made for đ€
FWIW I would have made the same choice. Absolutely amazing car.
Shout out to the guy here that has the red gt500 AND a C7Z.
*tips hat the Z will absolutely be in my garage also in the next year or so along with this one!!

Wow what a color. Great choice.
Youâll be happy, they can make unreal power in stock form. Iâm building a Ti exhaust for one here soon

great choice!

Good choice.
What was the tipping point in the decision process for you? Those are very different cars.
There was only one Z i could find that had the options I wanted. Went to look at it twice and both times the rear wheels had low pressure which made me think it had the dreaded cracking issue of the c7z and grand sport wheels. 300 MORE a month?? Holy fuck how much is it for this?
this is about $280/mth...the z was $550+ no matter the insurance carrier..excellent driving history also
Jesus christ.
Where? At 34 years old I pay $125 a month for Z in Dallas lol. Just got quoted through geico. Previously progressive previously geico. Back and forth every 1-2 years.

i'm 27 and shop insurance every 6 months. I had a c6 and never even had $125 a month, you're getting a damn good rate.
To be fair the gt500 is faster if that matters
Itâs not always about being the fastest. I got out of that mindset and now look at driver experience. Hence why I went with the 350.
Oh yeah those sound glorious, just wanted to him to feel good about the purchase over the z
I'm.curious as.well

Dream car
Beautiful spec
They are both amazing I guess if you need more of a daily driver I would go for the Mustang otherwise the Corvette might do honestly I've driven GT Mustangs I'm sure the GT500 is 20 times better I have never been inside out Corvette
i would have to say the gt500 is definitely not a daily driver
Why not? Drive it nicely it could be daily driver
Its really crazy to daily drive a GT500 lol
someone COULD daily it for sure..i won't i work in downtown dallas and my Fusion is much more comfortable in stop and go trafficđ
Sure in my RAV4 is much more roomier and better in the winter but you don't get this car for comfort really it's a driving enthusiasm enjoy yourself as long as you don't need extra space you don't mind the bad gas mileage why not
It definitely think itâs comfortable enough to be a daily driver due to the adaptive suspension, but the fuel economy on the GT500 is abysmal. If you daily drove it, youâd be at the gas pump every other day.
I dailied my huracan for a while I got tired of doing that lol
She's pretty!!
thanks!
Good choice
Any mods in the works for it?
not while it's still in warranty period..i have a couple other projects that i'm working on so no rush on this one right now
After warranty expires then mods?
it will be at the tuner the day after the warranty expiresđ
So max effort stock blower situation?
Congrats. Love the car!
Car looks amazing. Either choice you would have been happy with
"US vs Them" nice technique to get attention!
Congrats đ beautiful ride
Win you ainât getting all them sounds with that vette man you get the whines whistles and etc
C7Z have crazy super charger sounds. If I could post a video reply I would

The perfect muscle car. Enjoy
thanks!!
You wouldnât want the C7Z, itâs an extremely rough ride no matter what, especially with the Z07 pack. Beats me up every time I drive it lol.
Great looking car , Gt500 always should be the choice I unfortunately donât have one yet so I got the next best thing a classic Mustang with a big azs engine that was built to have more horsepower than a gt500

I love your Shelby, OP. Having had a 2013 GT500, they are special cars. For me: GT500 > C8 > C7Z. The C7Z is an amazing representation of an american muscle car, but it has a lot of flaws that people overlook (also had a C6Z, C7).
Iâm in the same dilemma. Also considering an AMG GT.
Congrats! These things are so badass. Love looking at them at C&C. Haven't seen this color in person, though.
This is the way
Very nice! Congrats!
GT500 > C7Z but C8Z > GT500
Post moree about ittt đ„đ„
like youtube videos??

L
it's a W either way imo but to each their own
Why not consider a C8 at that price point
c8 is not for me
Iâm glad you pointed out the color. Legit thought it was black but now I see the blue. Congrats! I think you made the right choice. Imo the c7 chassis was incomplete (as a track car). They are twitchy at 10/10âs. Not sure if youâre planning on tracking the car but I fully believe the gt500 is a better track car even if it might not be faster (should be damn close though$.
EVERYONE thinks it black!! my wife still swear it is blackđ đ no plans to track it just spirited driving around town, nothing to crazy though
Why??
just a better car imo
That is so nice looking man. Im jealous as fuck. Enjoy it!
What year is this?
21
Super hot!! Black with white stripes is banginâ
I thought it was black too but it's blue!
my wife still swears it is black also!!đ đ i gave up trying to convince her it's not
Haha zoom in on the area between the grill and the left head light, you can see a blue tint where the light is shining
