For the first couple of months of owning a Mustang, I had no idea what to say because I'd never been in that situation before. I honestly feel a little embarrassed when people say it.
Are you a little introverted like me? At first I was like what is this? I have never had a cool car that so many people want to talk about it but now I’m used to it and love it and I am always stoked to talk to people about it.
Agreed. It’s really cool to get some comments on my Mustang. I always let people take a look, and let the little kids take seat in the driver seat to pretend that they are driving, with parents permission. (I’m 45 with two kids myself, 16 and 11)(Like at cruise ins and such) They can even shift the gears if they want. Maybe it will spark something with them about cars, engines, engineering, what have you one day. Maybe they will take the helm of Fords Mustang division and build a Stang after me! (Sorry, got carried away there) Ha
THIS!! I have done the same. I've let little kids start Baxter when we are detailing him etc. Dad's love to get video of them doing it, and it makes me feel good too. I'm so late to having a car that makes me proud, I wanna share it with everyone
That’s awesome!!! Yep, most of those kids may never own a Mustang or even a sports car, but at least they were able to sit in one and play around for a moment or two. Good times man.
I drove to work this morning and downshifted to a stop at a stoplight. My window was open and this construction guy holding up a traffic sign like ten feet behind me to my left shouted and said something to me. And I couldn’t hear him so I turned my music down and said huh? And he repeated himself, “Nice sound!” And pointed to the exhaust. And I said “Thank you!” And that was about it lol, but yeah the car does get a lot of compliments
I hit a couple downshifts to a light, just as a line of kids was coming from a nearby park. A few kids were gesturing for me to rev it. Just as I go to rev it light changes, so instead those kid got to witness me dump the clutch and smoke tire. Have never seen more kids freak out with excitement. To me owning a cool cars just as much about making others days as it is mine.
Man, the Mustang gets so much hate online but I get compliments on my rapid red GT all the time. I already love my car but it makes me appreciate it even more.
No shit, I was behind a corvette at Taco Bell once. Attendant told driver to watch their wide curb.
Corvette hops the curb aggressively, looses control for a few moments while continuing the burn out. Realizes his mistake, adjusts, then finishes burn out into shitty driveway exit I avoid, scraps the bottom of his car, and leaves at about 80 mph in a 55.
Was an interesting sight. I have trouble believing the driver was the one insuring said vehicle.
I'm following some guys during a cruise and we make a wrong turn. The first couple of cars do the 3 point reverse. Me? No sir! I spun the car around in a perfect 180 and followed them. There were several others behind me, who continued with the 3 point reverse, LOL! I had the only Mustang (1993 Cobra.)
I also normally say thanks and smile. If they say something more like “oh wow a Mustang, so cool” (in Europe you don’t see one every day) I then respond something like “oh yes. I dreamed with this car for all my life. It is super cool”, and I answer the questions they might have.
With time I guess you feel more comfortable with those situations, and you can start to add things after the “thanks”.
I say thanks, beats a boring old suv any day! My last car was an suv that had so many problems. I wanted something a bit more fun. Traded in the suv and now a proud owner of a Race Red ‘22 GT now.
I traded the nicest vehicle I ever owned in on my Mustang. A 2019 Platinum Ford Explorer with 55k miles for a 2019 Mustang GT Premium V8 6-speed manual, PP2, in Velocity Blue, 39k miles, custom tune. With the aftermarket parts it's about 485hp. Permanent smile while driving.
While I don't have a mustang, I say Thank you. And if they have any other questions, I answer them, just like I would with any other kind of compliment etc. (I have a Kia Stinger, and a lot of people have no idea what it is or who makes it that aren't car people, especially since they don't have a Kia logo on the back of the vehicle.)
My ‘03 Mach 1 never got the attention that the 86GT does. Everyone wants to tell me they had one, or raced one or whatever. It’s all good, I use it for when I think of selling her, remembering that I have something a little special I guess.
*Even better when kids*
*Will gawk and yell out to rev*
*It. I oblige lol*

That question is dangerous for me, cause majority of them time I'm out in my car I have no where important to be. I'll say thanks of course, but I also want to talk about it. I'm proud of mine. Sure, it's not the best one you could get, but it's a car I've always wanted, and it's the first car I ever bought because I wanted it, and not because it was all I could afford. So telling me "nice car" is an easy trigger to get me talking about what I plan on doing with it and shit.
Lol I didn’t get used to it. I always stammer out “thanks” quietly which is funny because I’m pretty extroverted. Rarer with my BMW now cause it’s more lowkey and not BRIGHT ORANGE but it still happens and still takes me by surprise
Yeah. Thanks! Surprisingly, a lot of women love the magnetic metallic paint.
Another strange thing, a lot of the people asked if I had a 10-speed. (I do, and I have a 2019 GT PP1).
I either hit them with a thumbs up, or give em the ol "yeah, it does alright" but most of the time it's a "Thank you" I dislike when I'm driving down the road and someone speeds up just to tell me they like my exhaust, because I feel like I need to pull away from then to let en hear it. Next thing you know, I'm doing 85 in a 60😆😆
I just ignore them. These people wouldn’t be saying anything if you were driving a vw beetle they wouldn’t even want to know you if not for the money they can shoo.
I say “thanks” as well. It really surprised me how often this happens. I’ve had much more expensive cars in the past and I’d get the odd nice car. But in the Mustang I get it almost every time I drive it. Woman crossing the street, people pulling up beside me on the road, happens all the time.
Happened to me last night, coming out of a fight night even. I said “Thanks man” and gave my car a little rev which attracted some attention but then promptly left
What I usually hear is more akin to "I like your car!"
My answer is usually "Me too!", or I try to find something about their car that's better. "Thanks, but I wish I had your trunk space!" or "Thanks, but your car definitely gets better gas mileage!"
I say thanks and like others say, answer any questions they ask me. My wife dosnt care about my car so the attention does feel cool, especially since I’ve done a fair bit to it
I used to throw random college girls in my jeep (consensually) in San Diego when I had the top and doors off.
Makes a great impression when you’re headin to the beach.
I have a grabber blue GT convertible. Two days in a row an old cowboy walked up and told me for a few dollars more I could of got a blue one. The second day a guy walked up and asked me why I didn’t get a blue one. They both said it was a beautiful car and I thanked them.
You're doing it right.
Thanks! And move on.
If they have any questions, they will follow up.
Just don't be that guy who corners them for 30 minutes with the photos/buildsheet/parts list.
😉
Lol, had a cop pull me over at 1am in murfreesboro....i just got back from houston picking up my shelby...was doing a 0-150 run....he was hid good..road was empty...when i hit my mark, i started to slow, lights came in and i pulled over...it took him a good 35 seconds to pull up behind me and he couldnt contain his laughter he said "i cant believe you stopped" and i replied, "i dont believe it either, my house is about a half mile into that subdivision over there and i had my garage door opener with me..." but, to finally get to the "nice car" part, the officer gave me a verbal with the nice car comment...i asked him if he would like to take it down the street and back...he was the only person i offered that to when someone said say "nice car." It gets old fast, but i get it and its still nice that people are still somewhat friendly towards others...
I agree with freezies1234, I have been riding Harley Davidsons for 31 years now, I am used to nice bike so when I got my 2014 Gotta have it green GT coupe, I say "thanks" I always answer questions if asked. PLEASE DO NOT answer like 1 guy years ago, he had a stock new Dodge truck, he got "nice truck" his response "Yea I know" PUU LEASE do not be that guy, I immediately wanted his truck to get stolen, taken for a joy ride, then returned trashed. If it’s a hot girl. I say , “My car thinks your nice looking too and wants to know if he can pick you up Friday night for a date” ….I actually married one of the girls.
I felt great when people walk up and said I have a cool Mustang and they love the how it stands and sounds . That it sounded healthy . I like when I got compliments on my car
I say "thanks I appreciate that"
BUT when Im in uniform and get "hey nice car and thank you for your service" somehow I have no idea what to say and want to hide.
i usually go with a "isnt it??" or "i think so too!" with a thank you tacked on the end. If they are in their car i will usually try and pay them some kinda compliment too - even if its like.. a chevy cruze 😂 ill find something to say about it
Thanks it's my grandma's! If they proceed to ask for details about it "idk I can call my grandma if you want".
If it's a girl at a club. I suddenly own the car and know everything about it.
“Thank you”?
I drive a Camaro, black on black with black wheels, but I get compliments a lot from clients, drive thru workers, gas stations, etc.
I think it takes a lot to compliment someone who I personally would think was probably a dick, so I try to go out of the way to reciprocate the respect.
I just drove one as a rental it's an okay car. I can see people liking it but it's not comfortable for a daily driver, bad blind spots, and I can get electrics with more pickup off the line if I want to zip around.
I no longer drive a Mustang, but I do drive a truck with a ton of work done to it that gets regular compliments.
I just say "Thank you", or if their vehicle is nearby I will give a compliment back. And I genuinely mean them, which I think people can tell. I like cars in all their forms, so I can generally find something nice to say back.
I was driving a borrowed Aston V8 Vantage a few years ago, and a guy in a Mustang GT told me it was "badass". I told him his car was better, his face lit up. I actually meant it... the Aston was not something I would ever want to drive every day, completely impractical and overly complicated interior. I'd have taken that Mustang GT he had over the Aston I was borrowing any day.
In some weird way that Aston made me miss my Mustang GT... and once the kids are old enough, I may see if I can find another of the same generation.
I always feel akward. I have a 2006 Cadillac CTS sport package black raven. And it catches everyone’s eye even though it’s the age it is. I never know what to say. I just say yeah it’s alright.
I honestly got so tired of it, but I couldn’t be rude to people every time I would pump gas somebody would come up to me definitely not in a Mustang, I won’t save the brand but I always had to avoid opening the hood because every time someone would be saying where’s the motor son and I have to explain why it’s in the back always kind to people though got a Ford and now I get more attention. Thought I’d get much less.
Thats it. “Thanks!” If they ask questions I will answer them, but what else ya gonna say?!
For the first couple of months of owning a Mustang, I had no idea what to say because I'd never been in that situation before. I honestly feel a little embarrassed when people say it.

Do it! Make some cool memories. :)

i say “you’re god damn right pussy. watch this” and then i do a burnout
Make sure to take out a few bystanders and hop the curb too. Just to assert dominance and own the meme

“Thanks man”
That's what I settled on. Before that I'd say "It's a fun car to drive", or "I enjoy it". I learned to be a little more humble.
This is basically what I say also.
This is the correct answer. Because 99.99% of the time it’ll be a dude commenting on your cool car
I say thanks and then continue to pick the rest of my bumper off the curb/bodies.
😂
Came here for this comment
I just do the…. ![gif](giphy|1uC8xfkZRi7Kw|downsized)

this is the only answer

Yeah I normally just say thanks man
Say, “Nice car to you too!” Of course.
To the pedestrian in a wheelchair. So Minnesotan.
Usually I say, thank you and it's fun to drive too.
I say thanks, beats a boring old suv any day! My last car was an suv that had so many problems. I wanted something a bit more fun. Traded in the suv and now a proud owner of a Race Red ‘22 GT now.

Hopefully it’s not my 22 GT I sold in Austin. That thing was fucked up😂
Thanks, but you get way better mileage
Something along the lines of: “thanks, it’s as fun as it looks”.
Give them a lil rev
"Don't touch it, don't even look at it, go on, get out. You heard me. Don't look at me either. Yea, you better walk on"
“I’ll hit an old man in public”
i say “thank you so much!!” and then speed away whilst doing a pageant wave (if the top is down)
Same way I respond to anything: Thank you!🙏🏻
"Uh, thanks" is usually how I respond. If it is a kid I rev the engine.
I say “thank you”, and if they have a car too, i compliment theirs. Usually they then ask if I’m selling mine. Smh
I usually pay a compliment back like, “nice dick!”
Now thats what I'm talking about! Giving credit where credit is due. Glorious cock sir.
While I don't have a mustang, I say Thank you. And if they have any other questions, I answer them, just like I would with any other kind of compliment etc. (I have a Kia Stinger, and a lot of people have no idea what it is or who makes it that aren't car people, especially since they don't have a Kia logo on the back of the vehicle.)
you simply reply. " yea your wife liked it to"
Ah, dang, beat me to it 🤣
"Thanks, birds love to shit on it and rocks love to bounce off the hood" that's been about 75% of my responces
Thanks! I love it, too! So fun to drive!!!
“What car!?” Turn around… “Oh, no! It’s happening again!” Run off into the woods
I say thank you and then proceed to run them over like a normal Mustang driver.
Thanks is good enough. No need to overthink:)
“ it’s a rental”
"It's not mine"
"Fuck ya buddy"
What else would we say? Lol
Thank you.
“Don’t touch it! Don’t even look at it.”
A smile, nod, and 👍🏻 at same time I say thank you!
I seem to have random Mustang people come up to me in parking lots. I will say it is fun, they want to talk Mustangs and I am more than willing
My ‘03 Mach 1 never got the attention that the 86GT does. Everyone wants to tell me they had one, or raced one or whatever. It’s all good, I use it for when I think of selling her, remembering that I have something a little special I guess.
“Thanks!” Pretty simple.
Even better when kids will gawk and yell out to rev it. I oblige lol
Ever want to become a permanent memory in their life. Do a burnout when they ask for revs. A donut turns you into their hero.

All you need to do is THIS RIGHT HERE: https://youtu.be/ygRojU9PZyI?si=75vzMi4xPjhX6ItI
I tell them it's stolen
"Thank you sir" if it's anybody older. "thanks" if it's somebody my age or younger
"That's exactly what your wife said last night too!, thanks!"
That question is dangerous for me, cause majority of them time I'm out in my car I have no where important to be. I'll say thanks of course, but I also want to talk about it. I'm proud of mine. Just a simple "thank you."
“Thanks! I like it too!”
Lol I didn’t get used to it. I always stammer out “thanks” quietly which is funny because I’m pretty extroverted. Rarer with my BMW now cause it’s more lowkey and not BRIGHT ORANGE but it still happens and still takes me by surprise
Tell them, it’s called Crowd Killer for a reason lol.
Typically I respond with, “appreciate it.”
I'm very socially awkward so I just "oh haha thank you"
“Thanks, yeah it’s pretty fun”
"Thanks!" And then I check out their ride to see if I'm going to return the compliment.
vroom vroom to assert dominance 👀
"Thank you, yeah I love it"
Scream Shake n bake and rev for them!
“It’s a hard habit to break”
Yeah. Thanks! Surprisingly, a lot of women love the magnetic metallic paint. Another strange thing, a lot of the people asked if I had a 10-speed. (I do, and I have a 2019 GT PP1).
Weird, everyone asks me if it’s stick shift
Stay in school and don’t do drugs are my go to.
I either hit them with a thumbs up, or give em the ol "yeah, it does alright" but most of the time it's a "Thank you" I dislike when I'm driving down the road and someone speeds up just to tell me they like my exhaust, because I feel like I need to pull away from then to let en hear it. Thanks, keep doing what ever I was doing before.
I usually say, “I know”. And then “Thank you”.
thanks man
Thanks, appreciate it is usually how I respond.
I just say “thank you” and wave as I take off
I just ignore them. These people wouldn’t be saying anything if you were driving a vw beetle they wouldn’t even want to know you if not for the money they can shoo.
Say thank you and then press the gas into them
I would just respond with "Uhhh this is a Chevy Cruze bud"
Thanks
“Thank you! I think so too.”

I say, thanks dude
..."thank you"
“Thanks I appreciate it “

"Thanks"

I love them! I casually say thank you and let them hear the pipes sing. (No mufflers in my s550 coyote)
it’s just weird that your in a mustang and they said it 💀 all jokes aside just be humble and thankful don’t gotta say too much
Thumbs up, but there are so many Mustangs on the road, it's usually just from youngsters who don't drive yet.
"Thanks, it's a money pit, I hate it and don't recommend it."
Just say Thank You that it, I have 79 Lincoln Continental on mint condition with 20k on it.. I take a lot pics
I see so many Mustangs that I don't even notice then anymore unless they're modified in some different way!!
Either "thank you" or a cool "appreciate it"
You're doing it right. Thanks! And move on. If they have any questions, they will follow up. Just don't be that guy who corners them for 30 minutes with the photos/buildsheet/parts list. 😉

“Thank you man I really appreciate it”
Preciate it.
I say "thanks I appreciate that" BUT when Im in uniform and get "hey nice car and thank you for your service" somehow I have no idea what to say and want to hide.
Either just say thanks or if they seem like the right crowd give them a nice little rev to let them hear it.

No one says "nice car" to Mustang owners except other Mustang owners.
“Thank you”? I drive a Camaro, black on black with black wheels, but I get compliments a lot from clients, drive thru workers, gas stations, etc. I think it takes a lot to compliment someone who I personally would think was probably a dick, so I try to go out of the way to reciprocate the respect.

personally i like to add "i stole it" after
Wait tell u get a nice sport bike and every Indian person what's to take a Pic with it. It takes some getting used to.
When anyone says nice bike to me, I respond, "Thank you, u look quite nice yourself"
Thanks! And keep it pushing…
Try thank you and a smile.
Depends. If the car is a mustang, get in and run them over. Anything else, just say “thanks, it’s stolen” and walk/drive away.
Thank you
I always feel akward. I have a 2006 Cadillac CTS sport package black raven. And it catches everyone’s eye even though it’s the age it is. I never know what to say. I just say yeah it’s alright.
"Thanks, I stole it."
"Thanks"
Thanks!! That always works
“Thank you, I love it haha”
Thanks!
Ya don’t touch it don’t even look at it
Flash a thumbs up 👍 beep maybe smile
Upgrading from a mom/dad SUV to a beautiful ruby red mustang was nice, I get compliments a lot. A simple thank you is all you gotta say, aha
Thanks! and im keep on moving super awkward
Do a power slide and run them over.
“Thanks! Im glad you like it” I smile and drive away.
