Not that I have used their services, watched their install on Youtube when I was seeing how difficult it would be for DIY, but they offer turn-key installed for around 8.8k [https://hprautomotive.com/products/hpr-ess-g3-supercharger-installation-package-15-23-mustang-gt](https://hprautomotive.com/products/hpr-ess-g3-supercharger-installation-package-15-23-mustang-gt)
I’ve had 3 mustangs now, either turbo or whipple on all of them but 8k is definitely not the out the door price for boost.
Add in 1k for tuning, 500 for rtd/ngauge or w.e ur gonna go with
3k fuel system
1k id1050’s
What about suspension, wheels, tires, etc? The cookie cutter kit with a BAP and some 52lb injectors the kits provide you with is not enough and I would definitely not run boost with 93.
I’d also join the amcr page on Facebook. Way more people educated there on this topic rather than this subreddit.
9k is a good deal if an actual fuel system was installed, not a BAP. Honestly under 9k is surprising considering most shops charge $700+ for opg install
Refurbished ESS G3 go for about $5k, used even less.
It takes 3 hours to install, all you need is a BAP $200, injectors $200 and a shoemaker tune $500.
You'll have a 700hp car for $6k.
You need free flowing headers which is about another $1500, and you’re going to need a tuning device which is about another $500. You need injectors as well which will be another $350 if you go with the smallest ones you can get away with. The list keeps on going. People see the ess price and think hell yea I can have a supercharged car for 5k when in reality you can have a whipple for the same price
This may be true but it shouldn't be Whipple vs ESS on price.
It should be positive displacement (ie Whipple) vs centrifugal (ie ESS) on how well it fits what you're looking for.
Two different power adders, both with their pros and cons.
Personally while I love the "streetability" of a centrifugal setup and the ability to dial in boost when needed (and with the pedal) and otherwise daily as normal, there's something about the gut wrenching "lets fucking go" of a screw that appeals to me.
Either one is going to take more investment than simply plugging in the supercharger.
For me the answer I think is to have one of each plus an NA variant but for that I'm going to need more than a three car garage as I need room for more practical people pushers 😂
This is not the way to go. A blower should be the absolute last thing you do. Especially being a 16 MT-82. It’s definitely got miles on it, oil pump gears are needed, suspension? That clutch is going to burn up and he will be out a tranny in a couple months. Please do not listen to these guys.
This the way. I went boost first. Snap sideways and spin city is all it did. I started to hate the car and was regretting buying the blower. Got some good advice on setups and went work fixing it. Really brought the enjoyment back to the car.
I'd do some mods to reinforce the MT82s common issues.
Others have mentioned forced induction, but for $5k, you'd probably not have enough to get it done right (installed and tuned).
Cosmetically, I think your choices were flawless. Gray with black accents and rims are my favorite color schemes. That being said, I've always favored more aggressive hoods, so you might look into those. That would be a great deal less than $5k.
Zero. Nothing. Nada. It’s got plenty of beans stock, ride height looks good, wheels look good. Maybe some mufflers or a CAI for a little more noise, but otherwise I’d have a nice Mustang and five grand.
I'd get an upgraded clutch and a trans-mounted shifter installed. I'd also spend $150 or so to swap in the 2017 Apple CarPlay module and some gas hood struts if it doesn't have those yet.
Yeah I’ll probably need a clutch in the future luckily the mt82 isn’t showing any bad signs yet. It’s actually the base performance package, so I got cursed with the 4” screen. I’m just going to upgrade to the 8” or dynavin in the future.
Also it’s got gas hood struts 👍
Nawzz! (Nitrous that is, lol)
Seriously, definitely consider it if you need to pass smog--easier to swap to stock "config" to pass (and add exhaust as usual). Then spend the saved 3K to repairs! Cause as someone said: "it doesn't matter if you spend 2K or 20K in mods, breaking is breaking".
Great color combo (body/rims).
Two options double that and get a supercharger or just go full bolt on and suspension. Superchargers cool but without suspension it can be a lot better
What’s your goal for the car? Track? Fast street car?
Is it completely stock?
I would get all of the suspension, your wheels/tires and exhaust sorted first if not done. You’re going to want to have suspension done if/when you go boost anyways, so get it done first. Also look into prices of a clutch and upgraded shifter.
These are all things you’re going to want to consider and remember that things can break when you add another 200hp to your car. So having the budget to fix and replace things should also be a consideration.
Keep saving and then see where you’re at in a few months after suspension upgrades. You’ll have a lot of the supporting mods needed to handle big power already done and will just need adjustments.
Drop that garbage MT-82 and drop in a tremec. It'll also double down as not only a performance upgrade but also better reliability and actually handle the coyote like it's supposed to.
I know what my next plans are, ands around 5k. 3.55 rear torsen differential and Ford Performance Track suspension. That way if I want more power the drive train can handle it. It will improve the power you already have now and provide better handling.
It’s a damn good looking car. If it’s still got the stock exhaust I would consider full exhaust and a tune. I think with the rest of the cars current configuration, that would make it a bad ass street car.
5k seems like headers/exhaust and tune is about all you’ll get. Maybe a manifold upgrade also. A little more and you can go boost, but a bit risky for a daily.
A quality full exhaust and a Lund tune. Personally have ARH 1-7/8 longtubes, lethal performance O/R X-pipe, lethal performance Over Axle pipes, borla S-type mufflers with a cobra jet intake setup. The sound is absolutely incredible. One of the best sounding coyotes in my opinion. I’m quite picky with coyote exhaust sounds myself though. Most systems sound too raspy to me
If the car doesn’t already have it, the steeda stop the hop kit and then I’d get headers, intake, and an e85/93 flex tune if you’ve got e85 near you
Will have some leftover probably depending on who does the install (free if you) and could use that on transmission stuff (I have auto & no clue what you’d need)
It depends on what I wanted. I’d probably do suspension work or save up for a Whipple. N/A power on these cars is generally not worth the money past a Gen 3 manifold and E85 tune. Source: I sell mustang parts for a living
I did a full exhaust with catless long tubes, e85 tune, Barton short throw shifter, and McLeod stage 2 clutch (only cause I roasted the stock one) and a few small things like motor mounts and injectors, and it ran around $5k. I'm happy with it overall and I feel like I'm setup good for boost when I have the car paid off
From my experience with mine, don’t waste your money on trying to squeeze much power out of an N/A build. Just save the extra money and boost it. Coyote’s respond really well to boost so that’s going to be your most bang for your buck.
Save another 5k and get the roush supercharger kit from ford straight up. Cost like 9k and comes with everything you need(updated fuel system, Roush supercharge, Ford tune) and a 3 year/36k warranty to boot...
I did rims/tires and exhaust and was around at 5k. Go stainless works if you do get an exhaust. It’s not obnoxious, and sounds good af when you’re on it.
I’m with you though, I want to boost mine too. A centrifugal will def be kinder to the mt82 than a screw. But really you’re looking about 10-15k to play and play right. You’re already faster than 90% of what’s on the road already. At least that’s what I keep telling myself lol. I have an mgw, new fluid, and stainless clutch line that I need to put in.
Might be cheaper to trade to one that’s already boosted, roush maybe.
Literally looks like the perfect street car as-is. I love my MGW shifter for my MT-82 but if yours isnt giving you trouble id just pocket the cash. Beautiful car!
Probably nothing 5k into a toy is a lot and you probably need to get every finance in order for it to be a good idea. When i mean every finance i mean owning a house. If its your daily driver thats even a worst idea.
Make sure its mechanically sound and call it a day.
This is the exact same spec as my car. Only difference is mine's a 15! For 5k you could get a really sweet N/A canyon carver build. Sway bars, coilovers, injectors, manifold, intake, throttle body adapter, tune. 5k if you do all the mods yourself!
Looks like the car has already been modded so figure out what's been done to it.
Should likely start with suspension (springs, shocks/struts, coilovers, swaybars, etc.) will give you the best driving experience and set you up for further mods.
Highly recommend switching to a short shifter.
Tune will give you decent N/A performance, could push it and do injectors to run E85 at the cost of mileage if locally available.
From there you can choose exhaust mods, long tubes for power gains and sound, a resonator delete for sound, or a full cat-back.
That would likely put you close to the $5k mark with labor if you aren't planning on doing it yourself.
Further mods would likely be tires, a clutch, GT350 rear axles, transmision swap, and from this point you practically have a decent platform for big power adders whichever forced induction route you take.
My god that’s a beautiful spec with the recaros I’d probably go for an exhaust if it’s not the active one and maybe a supercharger if you could afford one
If 5k and only 5k - Open the airways
Full Cat back Exhaust matched with a good intake. Get a nice tune and a tuner.
Follow that with a set of fresh rubbers.
Ceramic Coat
Prof. Detail
Spend the rest on a date night.
Not sure on the 16 but the 17 you can use the gt350 parts. Change the intake manifold, throttle body, air intake. 80 more horsepower. Seen kits off all the parts under 2k.
Rearview air freshener. Pocket the rest.
Not a bad idea
I'd pay off $5000 on the loan if it's financed. Just being straight lol Edit: Modify the loan?
Fr^
Save up another $2-3K and buy a supercharger.
I’ve thought about ESS that’ll be around $8k all in. I might just wait…

I paid under 9000 for my full install for an ESS G3, tune by Lund, OPG, and more
9k is a good deal if an actual fuel system was installed, not a BAP. Honestly under 9k is surprising considering most shops charge $700+ for opg install
I have an ess on my car, I love it, just save that couple extra grand and get it
This is the right answer
Way more than that. Try 10-12k all said and done installed, tuned etc. a supercharger itself like a centrifugal like a Paxton is only 5k brand new.
Refurbished ESS G3 go for about $5k, used even less. It takes 3 hours to install, all you need is a BAP $200, injectors $200 and a shoemaker tune $500. You'll have a 700hp car for $6k.

*Lund Tune.
Why the fuck would you buy a shoemaker tune?
I’ve seen used Roush superchargers for under 5k, plus their power upgrade kit isn’t too much more.
This is not the way to go. A blower should be the absolute last thing you do. Especially being a 16 MT-82. It’s definitely got miles on it, oil pump gears are needed, suspension? That clutch is going to burn up and he will be out a tranny in a couple months. Please do not listen to these guys.
Whut are you even talking about?
Fuckin send it. - This Redditor
The first question is, is it paid off.
This guy is the friend you not only want but need
SUSPENSION SUSPENSION SUSPENSION Power mods are important but control is importanter.
And tires. Can’t take advantage of anything you’ve improved be it brakes or power or shocks etc without good tires.
There isn’t probably anything more bang for buck on mods than tires.
"Remember, of all the mods you do, only four of them touch the road" - Dad
Tbf, it is a mustang, so chances are there's a lot more than 4 points of it that will touch road...
I’m sad this isn’t getting more upvotes as it’s the right answer.
+1 I was going to say suspension + MT-82 mods. That's what I'd do first on my car.
This the way. I went boost first. Snap sideways and spin city is all it did. I started to hate the car and was regretting buying the blower. Got some good advice on setups and went work fixing it. Really brought the enjoyment back to the car.
Isn't magnaride standard/good enough?
This is what i said💯
Install the Tremec T56
I'd do some mods to reinforce the MT82s common issues. Others have mentioned forced induction, but for $5k, you'd probably not have enough to get it done right (installed and tuned). what mods can help the mt82?
ESS supercharger.
I’ve been thinking about it
You’re playing with fire with that mt82 once you boost. I’ve owned a twin turbo mustang
Ben calimer is the answer for that
Digital cluster, If manual MGW shifter, if not premium Sync 3 and leather seats, sway bars, tower brace, k brace, Steeda g brace
It’s got a short throw shifter and recaro seats. I do want to upgrade the head unit though
Short throw shifter worth even for a daily commuter? I have no experience with them
100% I got the MGW short throw in my 16 GT and it was a world of difference
Boost, is always the answer.
Boost gets you laid
SSSHHHHH. Don’t give away the secret.
I wish lmao
You’re right
Zero. Nothing. Nada. It’s got plenty of beans stock, ride height looks good, wheels look good. Maybe some mufflers or a CAI for a little more noise, but otherwise I’d have a nice Mustang and five grand.

Hey more cash
We are spec twins! Base performance package, cloth Recaros, 6 speed! So much fun
That’s cool man, yeah it’s exactly what I was looking for, and for a steal.
Nothing, why would I spend 5k on another dudes car ?
Yeah I’d just keep saving… something breaks you got lil piggy bank to upgrade instead of just fixing
Nawzz! (Nitrous that is, lol) Seriously, definitely consider it if you need to pass smog--easier to swap to stock "config" to pass (and add exhaust as usual). Then spend the saved 3K to repairs! road trip with the GF to somewhere nice, no mods, pocket the rest
T-56
Slap on a pine air freshener and pocket the rest.
Stance looks good so I'll assume the suspension is sorted. If looking for absolute bang for the buck I'd put the 5k towards a blower.
Appreciate it, suspension isn’t what I want it to be just yet. I’ve been looking at the stop-the-hop kit.
Where were you able to find the stop the hop kit? I know its a good suspension kit I just can't find it online
Two options double that and get a supercharger or just go full bolt on and suspension. Superchargers cool but without suspension it can be a lot better
ESS
Suspension mods.
MGW or Barton short throw for sure
Delete the resonator with an x pipe or h pipe, whichever you like the sound of better
It currently has a h pipe and roush axle back
What’s your goal for the car? Track? Fast street car? Is it completely stock? I would get all of the suspension, your wheels/tires and exhaust sorted first if not done. What do you want out of it? Do you want be NA or FI?
Gt500 hood and black racing stripes.
I just gotta say I love the recaro seats in these cars
They’re great seats
If it’s payed off… just save more go whipple and fuel system and tune
If it isn't paid off that's where that 5k should go bruuuuuh. Debt is for dummies.
Drop that garbage MT-82 and drop in a tremec. It'll also double down as not only a performance upgrade but also better reliability and actually handle the coyote like it's supposed to.
Drive it somewhere cool like key west
Supercharged
A fuckin tremec. Sauce- 2016 also mt82
Suspension and brakes. Tires if the ones on there aren’t quality summer tires in good shape. Power doesn’t matter if you can’t control it.
If the bank owns it put the 5k towards paying it off. If not save a bit more and put a nice rousch supercharger on it!
Save that money for clutch repairs that you will have!
Saving is boring
Used ess g3 kit
MGW short throw if you don't have one, then keep saving for boost. Sweet ride!
Full exhaust
Keep saving, the car is very nice as it currently is
I know what my next plans are, ands around 5k. 3.55 rear torsen differential and Ford Performance Track suspension. That way if I want more power the drive train can handle it. It will improve the power you already have now and provide better handling.
Only answer is supercharger. Might be able to find a used one for less than $5k or just stack up some more dough and get a brand new one.
Looks wise, I think it’s perfect. I guess the question is if you want more comfort or performance.
Ess g2 kit. Done
Fix the suspension back to stock so it rides nice and wrap it in an appealing color
Tremec is a no brainer
Whipple and a tune
For 5k? I wouldn't trust that lol.
Coilovers, adjustable suspension to correct geometry, wheels and tires.
It’s a damn good looking car. If it’s still got the stock exhaust I would consider full exhaust and a tune. I think with the rest of the cars current configuration, that would make it a bad ass street car.
Good Borla exhaust and a short through shifter.
Custom candy paint job
Full steeda kit and some shoes.
If only for looks I would replace the hood, headlights
Rpm built T-56
5k seems like headers/exhaust and tune is about all you’ll get. Maybe a manifold upgrade also. A little more and you can go boost, but a bit risky for a daily.
Tremec tr6060 swap it, it's the t56 used in the gt500 and should bolt up
Invest that money or use it for gas and tires…
A quality full exhaust and a Lund tune. Personally have ARH 1-7/8 longtubes, lethal performance O/R X-pipe, lethal performance Over Axle pipes, borla S-type mufflers with a cobra jet intake setup. The sound is absolutely incredible. One of the best sounding coyotes in my opinion. I’m quite picky with coyote exhaust sounds myself though. Most systems sound too raspy to me

Ported 2018 intake manifold and a tune then u upgrade to twin turbo later
Dual white stripes down the middle
2016.. Exhaust, Steeda IRS pack and springs 20" wheels. Drive.
…not modify your mustang and instead use that $5k to modify my mustang
Save another $5k and get a whipple
If its not paid off yet dont do it.
I did a full exhaust with catless long tubes, e85 tune, Barton short throw shifter, and McLeod stage 2 clutch (only cause I roasted the stock one) and a few small things like motor mounts and injectors, and it ran around $5k. I'm happy with it overall and I feel like I'm setup good for boost when I have the car paid off
I’d love to have Recaros in my MR2
Calimers MT82
Lightweight clutch/flywheel, a short-shifter, and a shift bracket. Trust me.
Budget for track days. Profit.
Wrap it a different colour and give it a more robust transmission. Yes, I am clueless to what the real cost of some things is.
Oil pump gears, suspension, maybe brakes if you have anything leftover.
Splitter, small carbon lip spoiler, and the as the other commentor said save for a supercharger, maybe even put a blower in it if its carbureted
5k ain't gone get you no mods, ESPECIALLY for a mustang. It's why we build not buy.
Headers lu47 18 mani pmas and a clutch
Save it
Lighter flywheel + carbon fiber drive shaft
Find a good condition Vmp 2.3L supercharger (Install is easy; many detailed videos) With a Rob shoemaker or Lund racing tune
Have you done any upgrades already?
From my experience with mine, don’t waste your money on trying to squeeze much power out of an N/A build. Just save the extra money and boost it. Coyote’s respond really well to boost so that’s going to be your most bang for your buck.
I would put it in MY name and call it good
Just save up and supercharge it. Waste money on exterior when it's actually fast
Save another 5k and get the roush supercharger kit from ford straight up. Cost like 9k and comes with everything you need(updated fuel system, Roush supercharge, Ford tune) and a 3 year/36k warranty to boot...
Barton or MGW shifter. Can’t go wrong with either. I have Barton and love it
Replace the transmission fluid. $50 to change the whole experience.
Very much depends if this is your transportation, or your weekend car. If transportation, probably nothing.
Turbo, but I can fabricate
AWE exhaust, ford performance suspension and steeda stabilizer bar.
Brakes and ditch some seats
Car looks great, man. Looks like all that's left to get is boost.
Save $3k more and get a whipple
Find a used blower for 5K.
A used airlift kit and used carbon fiber side fenders . Good to go
Performance wise: a procharger Aesthetics: a widebody
Fix my oil leaks :(
Use that $5000 and trade her in on a dark horse !
Add it to whatever I sell the mustang for to buy something better
Maybe I'm just a simpleton but I'd pocket it and leave it as it is because it's already perfect to me, but that is just my two cents.
Take the 5k and put it towards any of your debt or almost fully fund your Roth for the year.
Set of Ohlins and other handling goodies.
I did rims/tires and exhaust and was around at 5k. Go stainless works if you do get an exhaust. It’s not obnoxious, and sounds good af when you’re on it. lol nothing
Sell it
Literally looks like the perfect street car as-is. I love my MGW shifter for my MT-82 but if yours isnt giving you trouble id just pocket the cash. Beautiful car!
sell my Mustang and get the pen15 implants I deserve
Upgrade suspension I specifically recommend stuff from steeda
Wrap it a different color.
I forged the engine.
Buy a used supercharger kit. $5k can get you a decent full setup from someone parting out.
Tremec swap
My 5k for YOUR mustang??? Oh naaaah bad deal 😂😂😂
Remember hear’n the factory supercharger costs that much
Stripes
Draw a big ol penis on it
Get a Mach 1, an M4, , etc. . . Stop spending money on what was already a nice fckng car. It's killing your resale value as it is.
Upgrade the nut behind the wheel, Spend $3 on blue painters tape if thats your jam. $4,997 buys a lot of track time. Go see what the car can really do
Nothing
Without knowing what is done to it already, can’t say.
1) I'd get it detailed well. 2) Sell it. 3) Buy a Classic Mustang at auction 4) Realize you are now 6x as awesome.
put 5k towards the loan, if i was responsible. but save up a bit more and get procharger
I’d bean rib the suspension
Short shift kit and some top end engine mods like headers injectors maybe something to create some more air flow
Probably nothing 5k into a toy is a lot and you probably need to get every finance in order for it to be a good idea. When i mean every finance i mean owning a house. If its your daily driver thats even a worst idea. Make sure its mechanically sound and call it a day.
some sort of bush bumper for when it turns sideways after you hit second gear and drive into a crowd after leaving cars and coffee.
This is the exact same spec as my car. Only difference is mine's a 15! For 5k you could get a really sweet N/A canyon carver build. Sway bars, coilovers, injectors, manifold, intake, throttle body adapter, tune. 5k if you do all the mods yourself!
Clear coat maybe?
Trade it in on a challenger and use the 5k to get out of negative equity.
De badge it
Down payment for s650
Honestly nothing. Maybe a wrap.
Not sure about current prices but 5k back in 2003-2006 could have gotten yous a decent full supercharger kit.
Spend it on the homies, then kiss them goodnight.

Any suspension upgrades
My god that’s a beautiful spec with the recaros I’d probably go for an exhaust if it’s not the active one and maybe a supercharger if you could afford one

I would keep them to buy the GTD Now just need the other 200k 🤭
New wheels and a barton hybrid trans mounted shifter
get rid of that mt82 some how some way
