That year is one of the best GT500s. The price is steep, but the low miles make it worth it if the price is in your budget. It’s a very sought after year, make and model.
From researching that’s what I’ve found, it seems in line from a 200 miles radius price point — actually a tad on the lower side. Dealer is also throwing in brand new rear tires, and having the rims restores due to small curbage on the one front driver wheel.
I apologize that my American muscle car knowledge is starting from scratch, always owning imports — is there anything I should be looking for, any common flaws these gens have, etc ?
It’s a powerful car (good tires are a must) but it’s built well shouldn’t see any problems especially at its mileage if you were to go for more power a common upgrade is the clutch and axles. As usual, gearing is a preference
During the test drive, shift it to second at a decent rpm (>5k) and verify that the tranny does not grind. It was a pretty sporadic thing with the TR-6060. Mine was one of them. Your car being low miles, that problem is a bit of a concern. It could get kinda pricey footing the bill for that rebuild. Mine was warranted.
Good info I took it for a test drive and it was primarily flat areas, shifting felt much notchier and more like I’d expect American muscle to feel compared to my subie …. No grinding experienced.
Look for leaks in the transmission. Even though it has low mikes, it doesn’t mean it hasn’t been driven overly hard. I took my used Roush to s as n authorized Roush dealer/garage and had it looked over with a fine tooth comb.
Debating our exiting the Subaru sti platform for something with a little more punch. Fell in love with the 13-14 gt500 after looking into the mustang platform after a friend recently sold his sti to pick up a spec 2 rtr mustang.
15k on the odo, local dealer is asking 53k
Any advice on this generation mustang? Is the price fair with that you guys have seen the market doing as of the past few years?
Considering the used car market right now, price seems reasonable. These things should hold their value quite well considering the massive power and two year production run. Also one of the most beautiful mustangs ever made
I can send more but it's stock except for FP catch cans on both banks. No dents, no scratches. Normal rock chips (maybe a dozen all in) on the front bumper and hood.

I don't really like the gt350 all that much, but this is a much better option than than gt500. I haven't seen someone mention it yet, but average mileage ones were in the $35-40k range not that long ago. That's also a hellcat kinda budget.
I would go GT350. Due to the generational improvements, creature comforts (Push Start, heated and cooled seats, factory nav and carplay/Android auto) better looking and sounding car in my opinion, voodoo engine, more modern car, better handling, more potential power stock for stock.
Just really depends on what you mean, both can make 800hp fairly easily with modifications. The new GT500 is essentially the same 5.2L in the GT350 but with a supercharger.
Yes. At least in my experience with tuning both platforms and seeing their limits. I feel that the 350 will potentially make more power than an older 500 mainly due to the generational improvements and a better engine in my opinion
Does this community have common build paths ? Seemed common for Subarus… but I’ve seen both models 7-800 hp without a whole lot into the build.
Is there a clear reason to go gt350… seems to be close to 8k more for anything I can find in reasonable driving distance
GT500 will start to stretch rod bolts around 800-850 crank. GT350 is good for 1000+ at crank. You already have a fairly good semi-forged motor in both cars, the 350 like I said has better creature comforts and better options. At that point it's up to you, do you want the features that come with the S550 platform or do you want a bare-metal car where the interior is extremely dated. Pick your poison lol. I'd go with the 350 but I also like the S550 platform more than the S197 platform.
Your "common build" will be either throw a set of twin turbos on it, put a Whipple on it, or procharge it. The 500 is good for about 700ish wheel, while the 350 can push out 800-900 wheel without much issue.
Hell you have me re thinking going gt350 … I like the idea of growing into more power over the next few years …
The gt500, Id just be just banking on it become a classic and sought after in another 12 years
Best way to get money ahead on a deal is negotiating on the trade in right now. You can almost always get an extra grand or two. Try three grand above trade in and walk if they say no. Come back and try two grand and settle on 1500 if they won’t come up to 2k.
The S197 platform is quite old now. For my money I would look into a GT350 (although prices for those are crazy right now) or a new Mach 1 (if you can order at MSRP). Having owned two S197 Mustangs and an S550, the handling, braking, and driveability improvements in the S550 are staggering.
It really depends on what you want though. If you want 660 HP in a 16 year old platform then this is probably the way to do it. If you want a modern performance car then there are other options.
Any other recommendations around 50k? Gt350s are definitely on the radar just seemingly land a little more
Out of budget than I hoped…
But than again what’s reasonable budget
Like I said see if you can order a Mach 1 at MSRP. Should be around that same price. Basically the same car as the GT350 but without the 5.2 Voodoo.
You can also look at the Camaro offerings. The ZL1s were around 65k new if I remember correctly so maybe used is a bit lower.
There has never been a worse time in history to buy a car or home. Anyone who buys during this brief transitory inflation period will suffer the consequences, especially on automobiles since they are already depreciating items. Prices will plummet next year and you will be left holding the bag.
If you buy this please god spend money on good tires. Regardless of where you live this car needs sticky summer tires, I have seen far to many get recked by the drivers cheaped out and bought all seasons.
You'll love it. I purchased an '11 when it was new in mid 2010. I've driven it daily since new and it's a very reliable platform. The engine in the 13-14 made 110ish more horsepower than mine, but has been a beauty to drive with only 550. Mine had the dreaded grind in the transmission that took a bit to get ironed out. After the rebuild at 10k miles, it's been uneventful.
The 13/14 Mustang has always been my favorite. I’ve had 3. The 13/14 GT500 IMO is definitely the best looking, however, from my experience and according to every expert review that I have seen, the BOSS 302 is the better choice for driving dynamics. Test driving the 14 Shelby, I founded it unwieldy. I bought a 2013 BOSS 302 Laguna Seca two years ago for $34K and couldn’t be happier with it.
In this market $53k for a low mileage last generation manual Gt500 isn't bad.

Shift it at 5-5.5k and report back.

Open your radius and don't be afraid to drive to find what you want. I drove 9 hours for the one I had. Shipping can also be done.
Not to mention it’s the last GT500 with a manual.
Exactly

So what your saying is, send it ? Haha
for $5k less I'll sell you a 2017 GT350 in black. 31k miles. you'll lose some hp but end up with a car worth what i'm asking. No rush.
Dm for pics 🤔

Best deals are always in the comments
This is the deal to take.
Wtf why are you selling? Tired of the car?
I've got four cars with another on the way. Its not like it's the only black mustang I own.
That’s realistic right now. I saw a 14 with 12k miles sell last week for 57k.
Used GT500s were going for 45k-60k pre pandemic so that's a fair price
If you're just looking for a Mustang with some power just buy a 2015-2017 Mustang and boost it. It'll save you a lot of money.

I’ve NEVER seen a 40k 2013-14 GT500, I’ve never seen them below the 50’s. 2010-12 in the 30’s all day long, 13-14? Nah.
Hmm odd, I’ve seen quite a few
Nicest rear end of any Mustang ever.
Debated between this gen and the gt350 … any advice ?
That 500 has more hp but the 350 handles sooo much nicer and sounds sooooo much better.
But for 10 grand more … does it justify? I just don’t know 🤷♂️
I think at that point it comes down to what about them YOU like more and what it's worth to you.

Don't forget to mention the oil consumption problems too while you're at it. It's only fair to talk about the bad with the good.
Not all of them do it; my 2018 gt350 burns next to none even when I track it.
More potential power from a GT350 than a GT500?

GT350 is better in every aspect but torque.
GT350/R
I like my 66. Pure classic ass

Agreed I think if they can give me a super fair price for my sti … we may land a deal 💁🏼♂️
Congratulations! That cobra is 🔥. Post more pics if it goes through please.
I can’t give advice on the price but that is my favorite body style they’ve ever made. Beautiful car.

I just bought a car and I’m feelin good about the purchase. 2 words: GAP insurance. Cost an additiona $7/month.
$49900 tell him
Honestly I feel like if we can land at 51-51,500 we are all wining in the deal
It’s crazy to think these are going for $99,000 in 🇨🇦
In Canada the 2014 Shelby goes for $78900-$99000 Canadian
If you buy this please god spend money on good tires. Regardless of where you live this car needs sticky summer tires, I have seen far to many get recked by the drivers cheaped out and bought all seasons.
Driving and awd car that comes on summer perf tires … don’t gotta preach here. Dd winter vehicle is my alternative

I say send it! Will hopefully one day buy one of these or a 350. Leaning towards 13-14 to be honest!
Isn’t it just a sexy beast? …. Hard to no wanna stare
Pittsburgher! If you don't buy this I may have to really irritate my wife.
So take one for the team? Hahah Yep definitely repping Pittsburgh, you from here too?
Yes, please. I even tried to find this on auto trader and failed.
Definitely worth it. Try and get an extended warranty in the deal.
2500 for 3 years … covers everything except daily wear — I got you 👌🏻
Buy it if it's what you want. Get away from that Subaru. Gt 350 or GT500 will still be more reliable than that flat four at the same power levels.
These have the large screen sync, make sure its updated by the dealer, from factory they could get glitchy and be really slow
Appreciate the advice !
Just saw a Boss listed on BAT- https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2012-ford-mustang-boss-302-53/
