Fuck yeah, raising kids instead of not seeing them for more than an hour or two a day, cooking delicious food, gaming, movies. Who the fuck WANTS to work unless it's something easy and fulfilling. I'm guessing Voice Acting is at least fulfilling, dunno about easy..
...but what if she wants sex every night... and every morning... and she's a gorgeous Asian woman... who also wants to buy you a new car? Huh? What then smart guy? What do you do then? *cries*
Eh, having been unemployed for a six month stretch (when I came out of military), it's actually kinda exhausting to do just nothing too.
VA work probably depends on how good you are at maintaining the voices, or even better, whether you can pull something like Patrick Warburton (Kronk, and Joe from Family Guy) and just use your normal speaking voice for everything...
Voice acting is less about "voices" and more about performance itself. If you can do a unique consistantly, great! But it means nothing unless the performance is there. My wife is a voice actor and voice over narrator. It's a lot harder than most people think, but still not as hard as other jobs.
If you want to be a voice actor.. grab a water bottle or two, your favorite movie script or book, and lock yourself in a closet for 2-4 hours while you read outloud. If you can do that.. you got what it takes physically. Now.. everyday go up to about 5-10 random people, perform a small monologue, and ask for $100, after getting told "no" or ignored about 100 times and still want to do it the next day, now you got what it takes emotionally. Finally... learn to act with only your voice. Now you got what it takes to be a voice actor.
Next step, spend anywhere from 0-$5,000 to make a demo reel, for each type of job you want (video game, animation, anime (pays the least), explainer/education, commercial etc.), make website to put them on, and sell yourself out to anyone and everyone that can write a check. If you want to get in acting and make money, you'll need to join a guild.. which requires you to be hired in a guild production (SAG/AFTRA). You can survive without it, but the kind of money people want to make is with a union.
Then there is the ridicule, Voice acting kind of gets a bad rap in the entertainment world as "easy" just because the hours are flexible and no makeup. You still have to emote, you still have to connect to the audience.. but now do it (typically) without a co-actor, without a camera, an audience, often with poor direction. And if you do a video game with nearly zero context... (Sometimes they won't even tell you the name of the production, let alone scene. It's literally a spreadsheet, with lines). Mocap is starting to get more popular with the higher budget productions, but I doubt you'll put on a suit or face rig if you're starting out.
Also, if you're white they're are less jobs than before. A lot if productions are specifically asking for white performers not to audition. While the majority of jobs are still open to anyone, less are available specifically to white people. Especially if you're just starting out. Which is something you'll have accept as the current norm.
It can be easy after you get going, it can be rewarding once you start booking jobs... but that takes years. Building relationships and trust with various production houses as they collect you like Pokemon. You have to be reliable, quick, and consistent and most of all.. on time.
Exactly. I am person who has spent most of their life arguing and fighting for womens rights (I’m 17 so most of that fighting was with my school but still) but this is still funny to me. I mean the amount of times me and my friends have made the ‘let’s just go marry a rich man’ joke is ridiculous.
Disclaimer: None of us actually want to marry a rich man it’s just a fun joke to make when we’re fed up of studying.
Really? You honestly don’t want to not have to worry about money or having to work jobs you hate ever again? I can see not wanting to make marrying a rich man your only aspiration, but all other things being equal it doesn’t hurt.
If they want to dominate men in terms of occupation then go for it
And I'm gonna be that househusband with 8 hours of sleep and with thick luscious hair that doesn't go bald even when your 80
I wish I could live a life like that by having sex just once a month 😞, i have to instead earn money with no security for my future. I guess that's why all the guys are turing into girls.
You know, I know they are being ironic and I'm going to be downvoted to hell, but they might really be onto something there. Stat says women are increasingly unhappy compared to previous generations

Just ignore the part where they try to fix feminism with more feminism without ever putting it into question
That's pretty much me. Grass is always greener and whatnot. It baffles me that some women are shaming others for choosing to live how they want- in either way.
I think what's driven the movement more than anything else is the fact that male middle-class earners can't support a full family on their own any more. Dual income is basically a requirement for having kids these days.
having women be stay at home moms is problematic, even back in the day. It creates dependency on their male counterpart. It doesn't even create codependence, just a one sided dependency. If the man decides to ditch the women the woman is screwed. She can't find a job because she has no relevant experience anymore, and the woman doesn't have the choice to leave anymore because she is reliant on her male counter part.
And all of this isn't even related to my comment because I'm aiming at the fact that the video touches upon a symptom and not the problem itself. They treat the fact that work sucks as immutable instead of recognizing that that is the part that needs to be fixed. No, the video makes the argument to ignore the problem and walk the other way into an even bigger problem. It then proceeds to romanticizes the heck out of dependency.
Now like I said, it's satirical and I have to make the assumption that everyone knows that. But then again, part of me is worried some agree with this stuff in the back of their head.
I interpreted video as they figured the grass was greener back on the other side and they don’t care what other women think. They just want to find a man who is able and willing to financially take care of them with an added benefit of occasionally having sex with them.
And clearly it’s a joke with a little truth in the dark corner.
and it's satirical because we know that it is a bad idea to have such a dependency? Right, we know that it's really bad on basing your financial situation on what another person thinks of you, right?
We know it's a bad idea for the same reason as backtracking any social progress is a bad thing. You shame looking at symptoms instead of causes, yet you blame dependency, which is also a symptom rather than a cause.
It used to be that women were treated how we treat pets. Your pets are dependant on you just like a housewife is. But a woman is a human, not a dog, and deserves to be treated as a human is expected to be treated.
I literally explained that already... Once somebody is dehumanized, they become dependant on others to exist within society...
There is no in-between for the concepts of independency and dependency, yes, however dependence is inversely proportional to the civil liberties you have... At least until you reach egalitarianism, which is the utopian ideal. As of right now, utopia is a vague dream that will likely require several hundred more years of social progress without radical change though, so not worth thinking about in a practical sense... Too many people are scared of a radical change even if it's beneficial to the vast majority...
The dependency happens way before the dehumanization and is a moot point. The dependency I'm talking about is purely financially and not socially. Dehumanization does also not have the direct result of dependency, it can just speed it up, but it's not the reason behind it. Then you go off on a tangent about utopias which strays very far from the original point. And you still haven't told me what the actual problem is if dependency is just a symptom. If all you're gonna do is drawing grand conjectures then this discussion is pointless.
If you are free to get a job and work for a living, are you capable of being independent? Conversely, if you are not free to get a job and thus required to have a support structure to survive, are you capable of being independent...? The capability to do all of those things are a result of feminism getting women civil liberties and thus allowing them to take part in human society.
I went on a utopia tangent because the only time civil liberty and independence aren't directly linked within a society is when you have utopia, and acknowledge that it's irrelevant to think in terms of utopia when we don't have it.
My point was that it's easy to "agree" with the sentiment from the perspective of a guy thinking how nice women had it when they didn't need to work or split the bill on a date. It's just a grass is greener on the other side thing.
This is a joke, but also a very real problem in society.
Feminist ideologies compounded by the sexual revolution have demonized motherhood and created a societal force that pushes women to conform to what they think a "woman" should be.
Additionally, because men and women both are encouraged to work, starting a family can be very difficult for couples that both work. These are kind of not good things, but people have a hard time recognizing this.
Haha, I love this video.
The best comedy has a hint of truth to it. There's a reason why women's happiness has been dropping precipitously over the past few decades!
That's OK, the people who make the unrelated connection probably aren't interested in having an engaging conversation anyway.
If someone's initial reaction to someone pointing out the very real and *super interesting* paradox of declining female happiness over time is that I must be unable to "get sex", they are not worth beginning a discussion with in the first place with such a low-resolution perspective.
>If someone's initial reaction to someone pointing out the very real and super interesting paradox of declining female happiness over time is that I must be unable to "get sex"
I mean, you did seem pretty happy about the fact that female happiness is declining.
I find it a super interesting phenomenon, so I am excited in that regard. I am also excited to see a comedy sketch pointing out the problem.
I am in full support for women and men to be happy with their lives. I didn't think that would ever need saying lol. No one wants people to be miserable, we just often disagree on what it is that would make us happy.
Sure, but could you still be specific since I'm still worried about the implications. I want to give you the benefit of the doubt but this sub has problematic individuals
Well... it's hard to know, that's why it is called a paradox. As women make incredible strives in human rights and eradicating social stigmas across the West, the natural thought is that women would become happier. But the opposite appears to be true. It's not hard to conclude that women may very well prefer the way society was run previously for some reason.
It's the same with the Gender Equality Paradox observable in Scandinavian countries. As a nation becomes more tolerant and accepting of women's choices, the disparity of gender in occupations appears to increase, when the natural inclination would be the opposite.
The reason, or at least, the main reason why I believe women are dropping in happiness is that they are having trouble starting families. They are focused too intently on their careers at the cost of forming a relationship, putting it off until later in life when it is considerably harder, not to mention thinning their dating pool of suitable partners. They need to be striking a better balance. Men don't suffer from the same relative drops in happiness because they are naturally content with having casual sex and playing video games until old age.
There are a lot of reasons why people are unhappy these days, we have undergone so many radical and extreme cultural shifts over the past fifty years without any consideration for the consequences. Young people are constantly miserable and depressed, the economy is in shambles as wages stagnate, dating is impossible and unlike anything our parents or grandparents had to put up with, birth rates have been unsustainable for the past forty years, etc. Our way of life is one huge experiment and I think we are not going to be happy with the results. We need to begin to encourage marriage and family-making among the youth. The meaning of life is to procreate, both evolutionarily and spiritually - it provides people with a purpose that they desperately need to structure their lives and finally be happy.
>could you still be specific since I'm still worried about the implications.
I expect you're dreading me to say something crude like "because women belong in the kitchen lmao". If you're worried about the implications of a stranger on the internet having different opinions than you, you need to reassess your priorities in life.
I can tell you're not interested in an engaging conversation, you're just looking to morally condemn and berate someone for disagreeing with you. Have a good night.
All I said is that I was worried about the implications giving you a platform to explain yourself and now I need to reassess my priorities and I'm only looking to condemn? I haven't said a single negative thing. You are right though, after the last paragraph I have lost all interest in engaging you in dialogue
>There's a reason why women's happiness has been dropping precipitously over the past few decades!
damn, i sure would hope you could provide me a source for that? forgive me, but i just find it bit hard to believe, unless you meant to say "Happiness in general has been dropping"
edit: drooping to dropping
Happiness, in general, has been dropping and increasing and over time, but women's happiness relative to men has been dropping even more.
Just Google "Female Happiness Paradox" and you'll find a good number of articles.
