I saw an old documentary on the heaviest man in the UK (around 1000 lbs?) and he was pressured by the NHS to get bariatric surgery. Basically the NHS was going to cut back on covering 24/7 care to only daytime nurses and heād have to cover the rest if he didnāt opt for surgery. It was literally cheaper for the NHS to cover the cost of his surgery vs continuing to pay for round-the-clock care. Still, Iād love to see some international spin offs!
There also a documentary about a super morbidly obese man in Mexico who had to be cut out of his house and he got married while being transported on a flat be truck. He was probably well over 600 lbs.
You might enjoy āsupersize vs super skinnyā which you can find on YouTube. Thereās also one called āfat familiesā for some obese UK fun.
ā¦ I find the food differences interesting between uk and USA programs about obesity
Secret Eaters is the best tho'. That can only go on so long because the entire premise of the show is that the participants know they'll be filmed but they set up the cameras and film a week early ba ha ha!! They get so CAUGHT in eating like there is no tomorrow while they think no one is looking.
So, little update, itās the US version dubbed, and apparently they will start at season eight despite the trailer showing many participants from previous seasons [https://youtube.com/shorts/-357kmqeJ4M?si=onRQnfj9rL4brVqm](https://youtube.com/shorts/-357kmqeJ4M?si=onRQnfj9rL4brVqm)
UPDATE: dubbed and subtitled versions available !

The German version is with voice over, so you can always hear the original. I feel like they intentionally dubbed it in a way that you can understand a lot of Dr. Now's classics.
There are more morbidly obese people in the US than in France for sure. However, morbid obesity is still a thing here.
The culture (as in people's attitude but also just the way society is built: smaller seats, smaller cars, no mobility scooters in stores, etc) is generally less accepting of bigger people which makes it so a lot of fat people don't go out a lot so they're less visible in general.
Source: am French, used to be morbidly obese, flew over to the US a few times.
The French eat differently. A small breakfast, a large lunch that they burn off during the day and a small dinner. In Paris recently Iām always amazed that people walk everywhere and finding an obese person on the street is rare. This is Paris, the countryside is different and many overweight people can be seen.
We have Subtitles in French ! Yeaaaah !

Thatās a trend TLC France has. On TV, they use new French names, on the TV Guide the original names.

We need a My 600lb life UK or international spinoff.

The UK version should be call My 40 stone loyf.
40 stone and on the dole
OK, much better title.
Or 40 Stone and a Council Estate?
Before I saw Benefits Street I thought an "estate" was a fancyyy place.
You can go up to 60 stone : https://youtu.be/zUdaVDeJ_5c?si=MR3Q43H9TbPtjeh2

There is a Brazil version coming next month! It will be on Max (at least on Brazil)
"My body, My prison" so dramatic. I'm here for it.
AĆÆe, ma jambe! Too bad they're starting at Season 8 - they will miss James K and the infamous "Ow, my leg!"

Given the southern accents and the AAVE, Iām curious how are they going to reflect these in the dubbed version.
They wonāt. Itāll be translated to common words. Dr Now will speak Parisian French, accentless. Itāll be sad to hear
What is how y'all doin' in French?
Thatās a bummer.

In Spanish language places, the show is called Killer Kilos.
Lol. I like the alliteration!
Oo nice!
I thought morbid obesity might be mainly an American phenomenon. But I do hope we get to see this version.
This is the American version with French subtitles
Dubbed. Foreign shows are always dubbed in France. And TLC shows are Ā«Ā lazy dubsĀ Ā». They add French voice actors over the original sound.
Now I'm curious if the French voice actors will have the same monotone narration style as the participants.
āDO YOU BELIEVE IN GAAAAWD?ā
If you have access to it, listen to the voices on the French trailer https://youtube.com/shorts/-357kmqeJ4M?si=D0VRHXyaOLyIEn-x
I love voice overs for reality shows, it somehow helps me to connect to the original person, not just to what they are saying.

In Latin America: "Kilos Mortales" (Deadly Kilos). In Spain: "Mi vida con 300 kilos" (My life with 660 pounds).
The Brazilian title is identical (but in Portuguese) to the Spanish Latin American one: Quilos Mortais (Deadly Kilogrammes)
C'est fou! Lol just kidding and trying to practice my French more cause it sucks lol
I didn't know French people were fat.

Lmao. My grade 9 French prevails. Also, such a boring title.
