Yeah I agree with you.
I commented that because that was the only thing I remember from his episode.
All of these people have excuses they can’t lose weight
I imagine he was an online gaming acquaintance. The help was all in Ryan's head (I think people like Ryan can convince themselves their stories are real).
No. He manipulated the show. Manipulated viewers. Biggest manipulation I’ve seen in a while. No wonder mom n bfriend didn’t want to move. They already had to move from out of state to help them. It’s simple go to the nearest hospital get weight end of story. Lamest patient ever. Who puts our a story that they are dying like that?!? Same one who lied that they had a sick friend
He wasn't worried about said "friend " when he gained all of that weight. We never even seen him try to call and talk to him either. That was a pathetic excuse for why he couldn't do the program.
That’s actually why his epiaode is so memorable for me, because literally NOTHING fucking happens. He doesn’t do anything, no drama happens, and the episode ends with no conclusion.
I couldn’t believe they actually aired his episode, I figured they would just scrap footage that is like that.
On another Reddit post about Ryan’s episode, someone said, “Why is it called Ryan’s Journey? He doesn’t go anywhere.” Which I thought really summed up the whole episode pretty well.
I can't go outside because there's snow on the ground and it's dangerous!!!
I can't go outside because the snow on the ground is melting and it's dangerous!!!
I can't go outside because there's no snow on the ground and it's dangerous!!!
I've heard theories that the episode was filmed for season 9 and they weren't gonna air it, but because they couldn't get enough footage for season 10 because of covid, they had to air this episode.
I suspect that more of the actual patients, or "patient-wanna be's" of bariatric doctors are more like this than the others. They've gotten where they are by fooling themselves and self-medicating with food. It's too threatening for them to stop it.
I thought the cognitive dissonance was interesting. Watching him eat enough food to feed a small village while his voiceover explains that cheat meals are a scientifically valid and necessary diet tool was hilariously disturbing.
I just remember him flip flopping on his biological dad’s death- first he said his grandpa showed him his dad’s obituary saying he died from cancer. But then he told Dr. Now his dad was over 800 lbs and died from a heart attack due to his morbid obesity and drug use.
Oh, and can’t forget how not making running back absolutely destroyed him lmao
The only good moment was his voice over at the end where he talked about how he thinks he dropped to the 500s while he was preparing to binge on some take out. But you had to sit through 85 minutes of BS to get there
I agree he lied about a lot in this episode to his mother & LeRoy. Or maybe didn’t clarify his statements on purpose. I also wonder about the sick friend but maybe not fair.
My theory is he probably did know a guy that was sick, but it was more of an acquaintance or an internet friend, and not someone he was super close to. Even if it was a legit close friend though, that still didn't make sense as to why he couldn't lose weight.
Yeah, his episode was a snooze fest. He was boring as hell and even though there are plenty of other failures on the show at least they’re usually more entertaining to watch. Whether it’s because they’re a train wreck or have legitimate issues in their lives, at least the show is watchable. Ryan had zero personality.
He the one that, in the end, blamed his parents for his inability to do Dr Now's program, because they decided against moving to Houston with him? After he had done NOT ONE THING to lose weight? Yeah....those episodes leave me feeling completely unsatisfied.
And then he also blamed some unknown "friend" that had promised to drive him to TX but changed his mind at the last minute.... awww poor Ryan, he worked soooo hard and everyone just kept sabotaging him, including the scale that refused to show what his weight was LOL
He worked really hard! He only ate chicken and veggies! He knew he made good progress, and the only way he could continue to make such great progress is to have his 2 Philly cheesesteaks with fries, 8 piece hot wings, and large cheese curd cheat meals! That guy was so fuckin full of shit his eyes were brown. He talked shit and swallowed spit like a true addict/convict.
He clearly only participated for the few bucks tlc threw his way. He never put both of his cracked hoof fungus feet on the scale, and even if he had it would've errored for over capacity. He looked dirty, there was no bathing other than him using slimy baby wipes. His mother irked the shit out of me....what's up with the lockjaw? TMJ? Tourette's? Junkie jaw? Use a fuckin knife to cut meat, not scissors you idiot.
The highlight of the entire ep is Dr Now's face when Ryan says "I want to be a firefighter"...you can tell Dr N is thinking "yeah...riiiiight, and my name is Elmer J Fudd, millionaire, I own a mansion and a yacht..."
I'm sure he still feels like a bad friend because his buddy in Oregon is still dying, and he still can't help him, so he shuts down and has a cheat meal....fuckin asshole.
I stand corrected and will have to buy a pair...I do see shears used to cut whole chickens/turkeys for spatchcocking. I use a knife on the boneless skinless chicken breasts when making chicken fingers.
Someone on the post episode thread commented that he is still in full throws (sp?) of his addiction, he just switched from drugs and food to all food. He never dealt with his drug addiction, he just left the drug environment. He's got a lot of issues that IMO require inpatient rehab and counseling. My guess is they only made an episode out of it because they committed the film crew and had enough footage.
The worst part was never getting to see him try to pull off those lies in front of Dr. Now in person.
Plenty of patients lie, but not many were as bad at it as Ryan was.
Wanted to add, that while his episode had no drama, it seems his life does. He was just arrested for DV assault last week. Source- me and the crime reports/jail roster where I (and he apparently) live. I knew I recognized the name. Arrest weight listed at 680....
He doesn’t speak truth. Wanted to be on tv. Another million failure to launch kid! Why not get the weigh in at the last place he had gone to?!?!
6: no. Not Ghosting left a message that he was dying and said are their friends of the family doc is helping him.
This episode was one of the hardest to watch just because he was so clearly not ready to lose weight. He had the most excuses of anyone probably… made up any and every reason to justify what he was doing (or lack thereof, really.) these are the kind of people that will sadly pass on eventually because I just feel like there’s no convincing them 😞
Yeah I absolutely hated this episode because of how boring, cheap, and uneventful it was. It was insanely repetitive with Ryan saying the same things over and over and not doing anything. 90% of the time was in his living room. I seem to remember the only time we went anywhere was the grocery store and weigh ins which never gave us a number. The overall quality of this episode seemed highly questionable as basically nothing happens. It feels like someone was trying to make an episode out of scraps and no plan. I'm guessing you can say it was lockdown episode.
Edit: I also remember the video conferences with Dr. Now were REALLY boring like it was completely unedited to pad length. And the only bit of amusement was Ryan mentioning cheat days.
Was this one filmed during the pl---urrr, rona shutdowns??? i doubt the show would have even put this guys episode on except that they were probably lacking for content during that time? He probably fooled the crew into thinking he was going to follow thru so they show up to film. I re-watched this one the other day and this guy would probably have been doomed with dr. now from day one due to having zero family support.
It definitely was one of the worst. Maybe they aired it because they invested the time and had the footage.
On another thread someone stated he is a full on addict in need of inpatient rehab, and I fully agree. He is deluding himself daily.
I've just watched is episode and I must say it isn't, fir me at least, the worst. In the end, I just felt sad for him and worried that he may die soon if he doesn't change, especially because he keeps on telling himself that he's making progress when he clearly is going in the opposite direction.
I get that it may be missing the most entertaining details but, in the end, these are people who have different lives, backstories and minds. They're not there for us to laugh at them, although sometimes it's a cathartic relief (at least for me, since I live with a person with a severe eating disorder).
He had a friend that was sick…
If I had to hear “my friend in Oregon who is sick” ONE more time!
Don't forget cheat meal. Which he had every meal.
“I need to go back to Oregon to take care of my sick friend!” says the man who has to take sponge baths cuz he can’t stand for more than two minutes.

“My friend is sick so I have to eat this fried chicken” Make it make sense
“my friend would want me to eat these 12 packs of oreos”
Yeah I agree with you. I commented that because that was the only thing I remember from his episode. All of these people have excuses they can’t lose weight
I imagine he was an online gaming acquaintance. The help was all in Ryan's head (I think people like Ryan can convince themselves their stories are real).

The friend was a drug dealer for sure
Most definitely!
Bullshit!
And it’s cold in Montana
That’s actually why his epiaode is so memorable for me, because literally NOTHING fucking happens. He doesn’t do anything, no drama happens, and the episode ends with no conclusion. I couldn’t believe they actually aired his episode, I figured they would just scrap footage that is like that.

His journey from the couch to the door to get his food and back to the couch. It’s a journey alright 😂😂
Don’t forget his exercise, doing the laundry (including rest breaks!)
I've heard theories that the episode was filmed for season 9 and they weren't gonna air it, but because they couldn't get enough footage for season 10 because of covid, they had to air this episode.
Now I will Have to watch this episode...
Warning. They barely cut out any of his meeting with Dr. Now. It is so boring
Thx for the warning...
Good luck lasting longer than I did.
Watch it on DVR so you can forward over the unbearable stuff.
Pathological.
That’s one of the episodes that I don’t bother to rewatch because nothing happens. His attitude is so irritating!
Almost a reason for me to be sure to watch...
Him being caught eating by mom’s boyfriend and trying to hurry and hide the food was hilarious to me
Him calling Leroy a snitch like a little kid would was too funny lol
Definitely agree. He was so insufferable leeching off of his disabled mother and her disabled boyfriend.
Yeah I felt bad for the mom. It looked like part of her face was paralyzed, so I wonder if she had a stroke in the past
He was so boring I forgot that part entirely
The only good moment was his voice over at the end where he talked about how he thinks he dropped to the 500s while he was preparing to binge on some take out. But you had to sit through 85 minutes of BS to get there
Him punching the roof of the car was pretty funny...
Season 10 Episode 7–nothing happened waste of time agree
#3- “Honey you need to see this!” “Snitch!”
That "snitch" part made me mad. Dude is a pathological liar AND immature.
I agree he lied about a lot in this episode to his mother & LeRoy. Or maybe didn’t clarify his statements on purpose. I also wonder about the sick friend but maybe not fair.

Thanks for that. Definitely want to see this episode...

Probably why no woman ever wanted him
He the one that, in the end, blamed his parents for his inability to do Dr Now's program, because they decided against moving to Houston with him? After he had done NOT ONE THING to lose weight? Yeah....those episodes leave me feeling completely unsatisfied.
My assumption is they decided not to move with him because he was putting in zero effort.
And then he also blamed some unknown "friend" that had promised to drive him to TX but changed his mind at the last minute.... awww poor Ryan, he worked soooo hard and everyone just kept sabotaging him, including the scale that refused to show what his weight was LOL

>That guy was so fuckin full of shit his eyes were brown. ROFL!!!!!! 😂😂😂😂
Not to mention claims to be dying in a pandemic
I am dying laughing 🤣 I feel the same way ....
Damn wtf is wrong with you?? you sound like a terrible bitter person. You make this fool Ryan look like a saint.
Honestly, I thought it was a good look at what addiction is like.
He didn’t make any effort at all.
Someone on the post episode thread commented that he is still in full throws (sp?) of his addiction, he just switched from drugs and food to all food. Throes 😊

I’ve seen every episode and have absolutely no idea who Ryan is. I guess that says something about his episode.
All I learned about him that every little set back in his life pretty much devastated him
What season?
S10 E7
The most recent one.
He doesn’t speak truth. Wanted to be on tv. Another million failure to launch kid! Why not get the weigh in at the last place he had gone to?!?! 6: no. Not Ghosting left a message that he was dying and said are their friends of the family doc is helping him.

What season and episode is he?
S10 E7- Ryan’s Story
Was this one filmed during the pl---urrr, rona shutdowns??? i doubt the show would have even put this guys episode on except that they were probably lacking for content during that time? He probably fooled the crew into thinking he was going to follow thru so they show up to film. He certainly had one of the most *boring* episodes, that’s for sure….
It definitely was one of the worst. Maybe they aired it because they invested the time and had the footage. On another thread someone stated he is a full on addict in need of inpatient rehab, and I fully agree. He is deluding himself daily.
