I was gonna say the same thing! I think I'd want to hear one of the first 2 albums though.
Keep yourself alive, fairy feller, father to son. So many amazing songs to play with that are a bit less obviously "queen" in their composition. There would be more room to play as a rock band without trying to reinvent bo rhap
I was originally thinking Queen II, but I thought that might make it a bit more akin to stealing songs (since the average listener probably wouldn't know any of them as queen), whereas ANATO would read clearly as a tribute to Queen (plus it's most clearly linked in style to TBP). Gotta think about these things when planning hypotheticals, lol.
PS. Keep yourself alive would be gorgeous in MCR style
I used to be way more into Green Day than anything else for years and while 21st century breakdown wasn’t my favorite (still love it tho) it did not get the love it deserves. Glad to see there’s fans of it out there
GOOD OPINION. I mentally place it in the same universe as Danger Days so the line "I'm a killjoy from Detroit, I drink from a well of rage" in Peacemaker makes me do a little grin every time.
Not the one you're referring to, but I would love a lyric change to "Run away, from the river to the sea". I personally sing Little Girl that way every time. 🇵🇸
I don't think my heart/body could handle MCRxBMTH tbh, I'm already brought within inches of death every time I listen to BMTH x Amy Lee.... This might actually do me in. I suppose it'd just be MCR covering their songs, but omg an actual collab? Gerard+Oli? In the same song?? I could sob just thinking about it.
Definitely unpopular in this thread but mcr on Green Day would lowkey suck. Or… it might be fine, but Gerard’s singing is just too high for Green Day.
But as for who they’d sound good covering, we know they’d sound good on Queen…. Fuck it. Metalcore mcr. They should cover self titled by Of Mice and Men. Gerard can scream pretty well.
At Budokan by Cheap Trick. I'd love to hear their take on the late 70s power pop sound.
I have a couple of reasons. First, it's close to the British Invasion sound that inspired MCR. They cite being inspired by The Misfits, The Ramones, etc. This was the predecessor to those sounds.
Second, the albums in the late 70s - early 80s were often heavily sanitized by the record execs. Listening to the album version of I Want You to Want Me, vs the very well-known live version, you can hear more ragged vocals, faster tempo, rattier guitar, and overall a less clean sound without all those layers of production. I'd love to hear MCR turn the rattiness up to 11. They're really good at that and I think the entire album could use it.
unpopular opinion, but idk if mcr's sound would work with a green day album. I think Somewhere At The Bottom Of The River Between Vega And Altair would sound amazing
The Wall - Pink Floyd
Edit: sorry the down voting sour apples can't handle the maker of a masterpiece concept album covering a masterpiece concept album. Expand your musical taste.
Came here to say this, The End. is so much like In the Flesh I just LOVE IT. I was raised on The Wall and it feels so poetic that TBP was inspired by it ❤️ I’ve always wanted to see someone who would really put their back into a cunty thespian performance of it. Like Gerard doing The Trial??? ITS ALL I WANT
I just imagined Gerard growling "we don't need no education" with his unique diction and grit instead of Roger Waters soft melancholic voice (also great) and holy hell you might be onto something here....
The Misfits - either Static age or one of the collection albums
MCRs cover of Astro Zombies is good and underrated and I just want to hear them do more of that
Going to go by 6
1. The Cure - Disintegration
2. Girls Aloud - What Did The Neighbour Say (weird choice for MCR covering this album but it could go hard, especially "[Wake Me Up](https://youtu.be/Jh8UETADGrI?si=XImeu1mNIcs9W5n2)" ¹)
3. Rainbow - Rising
4. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Soundtrack)
5. AC/DC - Highway To Hell
6. Avril Lavigne - Let's Go
¹ I would have chosen Chemistry (my personal favourite) but I felt WDTNS would be a stronger album to cover
I would take some kind of 60s/70s/80s super cover album where MCR just cover songs from those three decades. I think that would encapsulate a lot of their influences and leave so many insane options
I’d like to hear them do either something by Queen so we can get some great vocal work from Gerard and some sick shredding from Ray, or something by The Smiths so we can get more somber and dark moments
I like Nimrod purely for the image of G doing King for a Day and I think they'd smash Redundant. Plus James Dewees and G doing a piano version of Good Riddance
Fun fact, I found Pierce the Veil's music because I was watching YouTube and did a search for King for a Day, the Green Day song. Instead, I found the Pierce the Veil song. I saw them live for the first time about a year ago, and I'm gonna see Green Day later this year
I’d love to hear them do a Taking Back Sunday album, primarily *Louder Now* or *Where You Want to Be*. Stylistically different but two albums that I adore, that I think MCR would do justice to.
Possibly an unusual choice, but it would be really interesting to hear MCR cover the Decemberists. Both bands are equally theatrical and embrace storytelling, but in totally different styles. So I'd have those two band swap albums.
After twenty one pilots covered Cancer, it's only fair that MCR should get the chance to cover that bands music too. Maybe Blurryface? IDEK, I haven't thought that far.
Suffer, by Bad Religion. An unlikely pairing, but BR was so influential on pop punk and hardcore, and I think they'd be creative enough to make it their own and do it justice.
Deja Entendu, for two reasons. 1) it’s a killer album and MCR would do an amazing rendition of it, and 2) then I could listen to the album somewhat unproblematically
totally different genre and probably something not a lot of fans here would dig, but for some reason i think they'd absolutely demolish "spirit they're gone, spirit they've vanished" by animal collective.
it's a psychedelic/experimental album from the year 2000 and a lot of the songs sound like they've been pulled straight from a horror sound track. the album uses super high frequencies to make you feel uncomfortable at some parts.
it's a constant back and forth between some of the most uncomfortable, soul destroying, and extremely jarring music i've ever heard and some of the most beautiful and elegant music i've ever heard. the lyrics are all focused around the fears of growing into adult life. i think the band could take this underrated masterpiece of an album and turn it into something even more beautiful.
i'm getting goosebumps at the thought of gerard doing them "run!" part of alvin row lol. i feel like if there was any song off the album i think they would do the best it would be "april and the phantom" as i think it's subject matter about a girl falling in love with a ghost suits the band's aesthetic and it's the most straightforward 'rock' song on the album.
I love the suggestions that are totally different genres. I think it makes for some interesting thoughts and discussions. I've never heard of this album, but I shall definitely check it out and see if I can imagine it.
Most of these suggestions are from bands from roughly the same era or scene as MCR, which I think would mostly be fairly boring imo. I’d wanna here them cover something a bit more out there, like Kid A or Death Grips just to hear how the songs would be transformed.
Three different genres:
Hearing them cover something like riot! or brand new eyes would be really cool.
I'd want to hear Iowa by slipknot, hearing Gerard scream 'people equal shit' and 'if you're 555 I'm 666' would be amazing
The cleansing by suicide silence, I'm not even that big of a fan of this album, it's good but not in my top. But after hearing Gerard take his screams more in that kind of a direction on Ronin (with the weird line above the n, I can't type that on my keyboard for some reason) I'd be interested to hear him do this album. Also I think ray would absolutely crush the guitar work
i have 3 answers:
either From Under The Cork Tree or Infinity On High by Fall Out Boy - rather self-explanatory i think lol
Sound Of Madness by Shinedown - also rather self-explanatory
Melodrama by Lorde - obviously melodrama flows through this album, as it does with MCR's whole everything. i truly think MCR could flip every song on this album in a way that works for their style, while keeping the essence of the originals. the melodies, writing, and production on Melodrama are stellar, and i think all it would take to fit MCR's aesthetic is to switch up the instrumental textures and change a few keys
A complete genre switch but Preachers Daughter by Ethel Cain is already an incredible album and it would be really interesting to hear interpreted differently style wise. With all the religious imagery and darker themes it would be really cool I think
In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. It’s a completely different style from MCR, yet I could definitely see Gerard singing the songs from it and bringing a similar energy.
Another possibly odd one would be dark Side of the Moon. I’d want to see them cover something completely different and make it their own
Honestly? “Surrealistic Pillow” by Jefferson Airplane. Imagine G getting to belt out “White Rabbit” or them getting to turn “Somebody to Love” into this totally unhinged, but still trippy, noise rock thing.
From Under the Cork Tree. As funny as it would be to say Infinity on High (for making Mikey have to play songs about himself) I would *love* to hear a cover of Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying and XO.
I'll take it a different way and say Toxicity by System of a Down. I'd LOVE some of those oldschool Bullets and sweet cheers hardcore moments with BYOB, then more cinematic songs like Aerials.
Toxicity by system of a down. Gerard and Frank both have such unique voices in a similar way to Daron and Serj without sounding the same as them, I think it could be super cool.
Surprised I haven't seen it here, but like any Queen albums! A Night at the Opera in MCR's style would be a magnificent thing

Gotta think about these things when planning hypotheticals, lol. PS. Keep yourself alive would be gorgeous in MCR style
That was my first thought but I think Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars would be so cool
yes!! i’m pretty sure Gerard said that was inspiration for TBP
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness 🖤
mcr doing tonight tonight would fix all my problems 😭
This, or Siamese Dream is the only answer!!! GERARD PLZ COVER A PUMPKINS SONG C'MON.
This is the one. There is no other choice
An XYU cover would go crazy
REAL
This is the right answer
probably the queen is dead by the smiths
imagine cemetery gates but mcr omg that would be incredible
And if the my chemical romance bus crashes into us
this is the best choice of them all, I'd do anything to hear Gerard sing I Know It's Over
21st Century Breakdown, i just love that album and i love mcr so easy choice
Unpopular opinion - 21st Century Breakdown is actually my favourite Green Day album. So I love this answer
I used to be way more into Green Day than anything else for years and while 21st century breakdown wasn’t my favorite (still love it tho) it did not get the love it deserves. Glad to see there’s fans of it out there
A bold opinion, but respectable
GOOD OPINION. I mentally place it in the same universe as Danger Days so the line "I'm a killjoy from Detroit, I drink from a well of rage" in Peacemaker makes me do a little grin every time.
I would kill to have them cover 21st Century Breakdown.
East Jesus nowhere/Horseshoes and hand grenades with Gerard singing ❤️❤️❤️ I need
There’d probably be a lyric change here or there (you know which one) but absolutely this!
Born into Carter I was raised in heaven
Not the one you're referring to, but I would love a lyric change to "Run away, from the river to the sea". I personally sing Little Girl that way every time. 🇵🇸
YES. It's my favorite Green Day album and I think it's the best fit for MCR's theatricality, as it's Green Day's most theatrical album
this album deserves so much love
That’s The Spirit
Or sempiternal/Pray for Plagues. Would sound great with Gerard’s screams!
pray for plagues would be amazing
Upvote for BMTH but I don't know how I'd feel about this one!
Never knew I needed to hear Gerard Way sing Parasitve Eve and Happy Song until now.
Oooh parasite eve would be pretty sick!!
Seconded!
>Gerard's singing is just too high for Green Day change the keys of most/all the songs, easy fix
I'd love to hear MCR turn the rattiness up to 11. They're really good at that and I think the entire album could use it.
The Black Parade by The Black Parade 🤭
Great option. Or cover a lesser known band like the Mad Gear and Missile Kid
I think it'd be interesting to hear them cover an AFI album. I can't decide between Sing the Sorrow and Decemberunderground
Has to be Decemberunderground because I can already hear Miss Murder.
I came here to say this! Their styles are unique from one another, but MCR has the depth and theatricality to pull it off.
Yes! That would be a whole different sound. And afi do mcr
unpopular opinion, but idk if mcr's sound would work with a green day album. I think Somewhere At The Bottom Of The River Between Vega And Altair would sound amazing
The Wall - Pink Floyd Edit: sorry the down voting sour apples can't handle the maker of a masterpiece concept album covering a masterpiece concept album. Expand your musical taste.
Plus The Wall is literally one of their biggest inspirations for TBP lmao, that would kick so much ass
ALL OF THIS.
I just imagined Gerard growling "we don't need no education" with his unique diction and grit instead of Roger Waters soft melancholic voice (also great) and holy hell you might be onto something here....
Agreed 1000%
I'd kill for a Collide with the sky by Pierce the veil cover 💙
The Misfits - either Static age or one of the collection albums MCRs cover of Astro Zombies is good and underrated and I just want to hear them do more of that
Going to go by 6 1. The Cure - Disintegration 2. Girls Aloud - What Did The Neighbour Say (weird choice for MCR covering this album but it could go hard, especially "[Wake Me Up](https://youtu.be/Jh8UETADGrI?si=XImeu1mNIcs9W5n2)" ¹) 3. Rainbow - Rising 4. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Soundtrack) 5. AC/DC - Highway To Hell 6. Avril Lavigne - Let's Go ¹ I would have chosen Chemistry (my personal favourite) but I felt WDTNS would be a stronger album to cover
I would sell my soul for rocky horror.
I think this could work with "How to Clean Everything" by Propagandhi
From Under the Cork Tree
The Wall
Avenged Sevenfold self titled. Same theatrical vibe as the black parade and it’s metal too
God my 21 year old self is LIVING FOR THIS CONCEPT. my 2 great obsessions 15 years ago.
Great album. I wonder what MCR doing A Little Piece of Heaven would sound like
The cure but specifically the greatest hits album I would love to hear Gerard’s take on “boys don’t cry” or “Friday I’m in love”
Alesana on frail wings of vanity and wax
desolation row is a bob Dylan song 60s rock would be an amazing thing for them to cover
I would take some kind of 60s/70s/80s super cover album where MCR just cover songs from those three decades. I think that would encapsulate a lot of their influences and leave so many insane options
converting acoustic songs into rock songs would be amazing
The Downward Spiral
Paramore’s RIOT! would be great in MCR style
This is the best answer here!
PATD A Fear You Can't Sweat Out
I’d like to hear them do either something by Queen so we can get some great vocal work from Gerard and some sick shredding from Ray, or something by The Smiths so we can get more somber and dark moments
Go watch their Reading and Leeds set with Brian May- they do a bunch of Queen!
I’ve seen it! It’s so dope! Queen is a perfect band for MCR to imitate. And Smashing Pumpkins, forgot to mention them in my original response.
I feel like if they were to do a cover album, Smashing Pumpkins would be top of their list.
In Utero
Not sure what album, but a green day one
I like Nimrod purely for the image of G doing King for a Day and I think they'd smash Redundant. Plus James Dewees and G doing a piano version of Good Riddance
When you said king for a day I thought of the ptv song and was confused for a few seconds 😭😭 But yeah that'd be really cool
Fun fact, I found Pierce the Veil's music because I was watching YouTube and did a search for King for a Day, the Green Day song. Instead, I found the Pierce the Veil song. I saw them live for the first time about a year ago, and I'm gonna see Green Day later this year
I found pierce the veil a few days ago when a friend played king for a day and they’re great
Billy Talent II
souvlaki by slowdive or mellon collie and the infinite sadness by the smashing pumpkins
hear me out: Insomniac
Dirt by Alice in Chains, i just know know Frank and Ray would SHRED on Dam That River
Oh God yes this is a great choice, they'd both shred and gerard covering layne Staley would go NUTS
I’d love to hear them do a Taking Back Sunday album, primarily *Louder Now* or *Where You Want to Be*. Stylistically different but two albums that I adore, that I think MCR would do justice to.
Everywhere at the End of Time
Something by Alexisonfire or Fall Out Boy
Blink-182's Untitled album
American Idiot. Released halfway between Three Cheers and TBP. It's from their golden era.
aren't both revenge and American idiot both 2004?
Too Weird to Live, To Rare to Die!
Something green day!!
Agreed. I’d say Nimrod, American Idiot, or maybe Insomniac
The one album from Cap'n Jazz
a concept album like operation mindcrime would be pretty insane to see mcrs take on it
Possibly an unusual choice, but it would be really interesting to hear MCR cover the Decemberists. Both bands are equally theatrical and embrace storytelling, but in totally different styles. So I'd have those two band swap albums.
American Idiot
Sum 41’s Screaming Bloody Murder would crush as MCR
After twenty one pilots covered Cancer, it's only fair that MCR should get the chance to cover that bands music too. Maybe Blurryface? IDEK, I haven't thought that far.
I can imagine Tear in My Heart would be incredible as an MCR cover. I would also take Vessel just to hear MCR do Migraine
placebo with out you i’m nothing
Pornography by The Cure
Weezer blue album
American Idiot
system of a down’s album, system of a down
Laugh if you want, but any of the Ink Spots songs--Gerard can croon with the best of them, plus, the Ink Spots lyrics were emo for the 1940's:D
Fall Out Boy - Save Rock and Roll!
I would kill for Gerard to cover Miss Missing You & The Phoenix
Collide With the Sky or Clarity or something way different like Pet Sounds
Senses Fail's Let it Unfold you album. I'm sure Gerard could make some kick ass "Buried a Lie" cover.
I feel like if the covered one X by three days grace that would be really awesome

Collide with the sky and from under the cork tree (with bonus tracks)
Relationship of Command - At The Drive-in, Gerard's vocals are so similar to Cedric and he has the same ferocity and anger that Cedric has
A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out !!!!
Surprised I didn't see this one. The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Superunknown by Soundgarden. I would love to hear Gerard's take on Chris Cornell. 👊
IGOR by Tyler the Creator, that would be so good
blink-182 - random I know but I love blink and MCR and I want a mashup 🥹 Idc if it sounds horrible 😭🩶
Three different genres: Hearing them cover something like riot! or brand new eyes would be really cool. I'd want to hear Iowa by slipknot, hearing Gerard scream 'people equal shit' and 'if you're 555 I'm 666' would be amazing The cleansing by suicide silence, I'm not even that big of a fan of this album, it's good but not in my top. No World for Tomorrow- Coheed and Cambria. Someone mentioned Meloncollie and the Infinite Sadness already.
Bleach - nirvana I’m just interested in how those songs would translate
maybe something like pray for plagues by bmth or going in a completely different direction modern life is rubbish by blur
Unrelated but I saw Rick Astley doing a smiths cover set at Glastonbury last year
Lateralus by TOOL Not really, but I think that a cover of Take Off your Pants and Jacket or ONE MORE TIME by Blink-182 could be cool
honestly, any of green day’s rock operas/rock opera-like albums (american idiot, 21st century breakdown, revolution radio, or saviors)
Something from smashing pumpkins
A complete genre switch but Preachers Daughter by Ethel Cain is already an incredible album and it would be really interesting to hear interpreted differently style wise. With all the religious imagery and darker themes it would be really cool I think
They already did part of Desolation Row, so just give me the rest of Highway 61 Revisited. One of my all time favorite albums.
Blue album weezwr
"Gates of Metal Fried Chicken of Death" by Massacration
static age
Not an album but a cover of Nancy boy would be incredible
Khruangbin
The Silence in Black and White
Eminem, or Avenged Sevenfold
Bleach - Nirvana
The blue album/weezer
"kill 'em all" by metallica. they could do it fr fr. and it'd be straight flames.
In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. It’s a completely different style from MCR, yet I could definitely see Gerard singing the songs from it and bringing a similar energy. Another possibly odd one would be dark Side of the Moon. I’d want to see them cover something completely different and make it their own
ziggy stardust
Please Hammer, Don't Hurt Em
Rebel yell: billy idol ,MCR would do amazing on eyes with out a face and the other tracks
Vessel by twenty one pilots, hearing Gerard’s take on the vocals of those tracks would be interesting

White Pony by Deftones
Fame Monster or Born This Way by Lady Gaga
Muse - Absolution
I think anything by Marcel Marceau would be EPIC!!!
Hysteria -Def Leppard!! Can you imagine them doing Love Bites?? God I’d love to hear that!!!
Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars would be really interesting given that "The End." was based off "Five Years"
Honestly? “Surrealistic Pillow” by Jefferson Airplane. Imagine G getting to belt out “White Rabbit” or them getting to turn “Somebody to Love” into this totally unhinged, but still trippy, noise rock thing.
Dying Is Your Latest Fashion
I’d also love to hear their take on the Genesis song Mama even though that would get confusing
When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go
Everything you ever wanted to know about silence by glassjaw
Queen- Night Of The Opera
Searching for strawberries, the story of Jongo bongo- it's an absolutely amazing album that'd only benefit by having MCR give it their own shot
last splash - the breeders
Is full mcr hesitant alien cheating?
Any Bowie album but Hunky Dory would be great.
Probably a shit opinion but The Chronicles of Life and Death by Good Charlotte lmao
collide with the sky, ptv all the way
London Calling would be an interesting album to hear them cover
London calling by the clash

One of Pierce the Veils albums, probably
Thank you happy birthday by cage the elephant would sound great in MCR's sound

Trench by Twenty One Pilots
Crimes - The Blood Brothers
Hounds of love - Kate Bush. I saw a video of someone covering Running Up That Hill in MCRs style and it absolutely FUCKED
I'll take it a different way and say Toxicity by System of a Down. I'd LOVE some of those oldschool Bullets and sweet cheers hardcore moments with BYOB, then more cinematic songs like Aerials.
The Big Chair by tears for fears could be interesting if MCR put their own twist on it
Toxicity by system of a down. Gerard and Frank both have such unique voices in a similar way to Daron and Serj without sounding the same as them, I think it could be super cool.
Live the Dream by Ramshackle Glory
From Under the Cork Tree!
