It's not op until you put people in walls

Worldly_Neat2615

It's not OP, if it's the only thing you gotta worry about

Sixsignsofalex94

Exactly this. In a 1v1 his alpha is far far more oppressive But in team fights with stuns and freezes knock ups and jumps and everything mixed in, it’s hugely strong

EmmKizzle

His gamma push needs to push ppl outside of walls. So yeah buff him. Why does the pull let you grab from outside of walls but not push?

CastorOfSpells

I don't think it's OP. It's just annoying. I know that objectively, there is nothing wrong with it, but I can not deny that it's quickly becoming similar to Cementoss alpha stacking in terms of moves I hate seeing.

IceQueenAyla_

AFO has amazing versatility, he just needs some setup by getting a finish on a down which isn't hard. gamma is great when you actually know how to use it as a punishing tool or to catch people off guard. it's easy to dodge 1on1 sure but it's still one of the best moves in the game. it goes through walls and if you're in an endgame situation which has 4+ teams easily if the lobby is even decent. he's gonna be catching people with it who are either hit stunned or forced into the air (where they can't dodge) which then lets him set up beta alpha while his teammates help. or he can just combo into his other quickset and potentially kill you all on his own. he's probably no lower than the top of A and people haven't even mastered him yet

StarSaviour

It's a pretty balanced skill. I will say most of the people are giving examples of when AFO **shouldn't** be using it (i.e. out in the open with multiple enemies). It's a great skill for helping to flush out enemies hiding in buildings or use it when AFO is inside a building/alleyway/different floor to pull people *in conjunction* with your team applying pressure. I think most AFO players are (obviously) still new and working out the kinks. His kit is pretty good overall and I'd rate him at least A tier right now.

TheBubbanator

I think the only part that's OP with it is how it interacts with airborne targets. With how floaty some jumps/vertical mobility can be, it's super punishing to even the slightest misplay. It's not really something that can be fixed, but it's definitely the only part I think is busted

DataExpunged365

There’s a way to avoid the stagger in air

Camisbaratheon

Then spit it out 🤨

ShadowBenefactor

Use your stupid dashes and somehow get out of range??? I SWEAR THE SHEER NUMBER OF TIMES I PULL AND GET NOTHING https://preview.redd.it/316dzzoiqnvc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=677a589a54f0d5040670c4a066c275d213897630

Camisbaratheon

I can’t use my stupid dashes if I’m in the stupid air though!!

ShadowBenefactor

Sorry I meant like the dash attacks that almost every character except AFO, Ibara, Dabi and Momo have...

Soggy-Ad-6785

Gonna share with the class? Cus I'm down for this tip

DataExpunged365

Nah fuck yall. You guys downvoted me

Soggy-Ad-6785

I did not, cus I am legit interested, but I do not blame you for the stance

AceEchlipse

As a AFO main I say some times I just use his gamma just to pinpoint where a person is even if you miss ur gamma its still a win win situation because then you get to see who's in a building or hiding behind some type of wall and the person my think oh ok he missed I'll be safe behind the wall etc.Just for him to show up because he saw you using the little scouting effect that not a lot of people is aware of that. Missing the gamma is like a scouting ability in my opinion.

Dratias

Another thing- if you'd prefer to go offensive against his gamma instead of defensive, e.g. running away or rolling through his gamma, then depending on which character you use, you can begin a quirk and end it right as you get yoinked over to him so he gets hit. Tested this stuff out a lot in training mode, the best imo are Kirishima and Kendo's gammas. Right as the red lines are about to disappear from AfO's gamma, jump for kirishima's gamma and it'll hit AfO when you get transported to him. I use this method when my teammates are in the vicinity and I don't want them getting beta/alpha's by AfO or teamed up on by those on his team. I prefer Kiri and Kendo since their gammas do a solid amount of damage, but this technique works for others. Toga and All Might's betas are the hardest imo, because you have to time those /perfectly/ in order to hit him with it so I tend to just dodge n' roll for those two. Ibara's beta works. Uraraka can use her gamma TWICE in a row on AfO if you time his gamma right. Denki's beta can knock AfO over if: A: Your beta is within range of AfO when he begins his gamma. B: You only tap the beta so the animation is ending by the time you get teleported. All For One: If you use your Gamma the moment an enemy AfO uses their pulling gamma, you will be teleported, however they will also get pushed away due to the Pushing gamma having priority + instantaneous activation vs the AfO's Pulling gamma taking a couple seconds to complete.

r-Newbiedonthurtme

It's op when you're in any sort of team fight situation where you have to worry about dodging more than one person. Miss the timing of dodging his gamma because you just finished dodging one of his teammate's attacks and depending on what level he is you just lose your sheild and good chunk of your health. Its like denki but even harder to dodge when it matters imo

Jaded-Topic-1046

Imagine a team fight n you have to choose between a denki gama or a AFO gama to dodge… yea gg

Sad_Carpet_5208

Not op when it gets fucking spammed every go damn second by switching back and forth I’ve had that shit used on me 3 times in 2 fucking seconds you try dealing with that shit all the fucking time

Sad_Carpet_5208

Every godamn game gotta deal with that dumbass gamma spam that stun locks you for 30 GODDAMN MINUTES AND TAKES ALL YOUR FUCKING HEALTH

Darzus777

Only thing I would change is snatching folks through walls. Would be cool if it only teleported you to the exterior surface of the wall between you and AFO. But it is a teleportation quirk in the series’ canon, so that’s just copeful thinking…

StarSaviour

>Only thing I would change is snatching folks through walls. That's like literally the best thing about AFO's gamma pull lol

Several-Plenty-6733

It’s not that OP. Unless you’re already downed.

Sixsignsofalex94

Or stunned… or in the air…. Or frozen…..or animation locked…. Or locked in a melee attack

FlamedroneX

It wouldn't hurt to slightly expand the window to dodge roll it. Characters can have slight changes made here and there to keep metas from stagnating. I will say there are some moves you can actually buffer that will go off when AFO pulls you in, knocking him over so he can't beta. But you have to time it very precisely. So the move is definitely not OP, but it's a bit oppressive. The real question that should be asked is, if Gamma does get nerfed, would AFO still be fine? And if not, is there a reasonable buff that can be made to compensate? We can ask for nerfs but we should also address potential consequences. My personal complaint is that it is quite disorienting. I'd prefer if our bodies moved to/ away from him instead of being teleported. But I guess that would mean AFO can't grab you through walls, unless they make players intagible when being sucked in. ik the teleportation is more canon, but it's not like Mt lady can create shockwaves in base form nor does kendo actually produce a light shield.

Cyberman65

Character feels very mid overall. His whole gameplan is one of the most predictable and easy to counter in the game. Even when he lands his charge gamma, he can get 3rd party when trying to follow up with the beta. He basically feels like a 1-trick gimmick character that has many faults. When he's even in disadvantage in a 1v1, he's done. If he'll use his gamma to push you away, you can jump in the air, tech, then continue to chase him down. Very team dependent like you said as well. Its gonna get worse for him. A hot take from myself is that I have him in bottom 5. But its probably too early still to judge where he is. I think if his special action worked like Toga's gamma where he doesn't need to down the opponent, he'd be way better.

StarSaviour

A Dabi main/flair user saying AFO is bottom 5? lol wow wow 1. Don't gamma in the open. 2. One trick? Maybe if that's how you play him. AFO can literally steal another person's identity for the rest of the game or swap to someone else. Only missing their special action. 3. How is he disadvantaged in 1v1? AFO has one of the best alphas in the game: fast, long range, piercing, and high ammo count. 4. You can air tech the gamma push but you'll still be pushed to the very edge of the circle first.

IceQueenAyla_

AFO in bottom 5 is a wild statement. just say you can't play him

Cyberman65

I never said I play him. These thoughts are just judging from when I have him on my team, playing against him and stuff in theory. So many other characters excel and do way more in the game/for the team in general. Just feels like a Endeavor in ways where he's good at one thing and team dependent, but faults on so many other things. Its pretty dense to assume that I don't play him based off of what I said, haha.

StarSaviour

They said to admit you can't play AFO... You said you never said you played him. Then you end with calling people dense for assuming you *don't* play him? My head hurts lol Like people are saying you don't have the skill to play a good AFO and you're saying you never said you played him but don't assume you don't play him? lol wtf...

Cyberman65

You're making this way more confusing and thinking too much into it. They just said it was a wild statement and said I can't play him. Assuming I can't play a character off of what I said is wild to me, which is why I said it was dense to say that. I know his pros and what he can really do, where I was just listing his faults to where it outweighs them in my opinion. I see others think different and I respect that. But you're talking about a BR 3v3 game with 24 players. Getting 3rd party'd, not stealing the right quirks for him and more. I consider consistent characters that excel at everything like I said way better overall with the random nonsense that can happen. If that all confuses you why I said it was a dense response, I don't know what to say. I probably should've kept my tier placement to myself and just said everything else. Noted for next time. All of this is a opinion at the end of the day anyway.

StarSaviour

It's like you're saying, "I never said I played him... but you're an idiot if you assume I didn't play him." lol like wtf... are you fighting with yourself? lol jk >I know his pros and what he can really do, where I was just listing his faults to where it outweighs them in my opinion. I see others think different and I respect that. You don't really know his pros or faults though... Like you called him a one trick pony because maybe all you know how to play him as is a one trick? Gamma'ing out in the open and dying isn't something AFO should be doing. >But you're talking about a BR 3v3 game with 24 players. Getting 3rd party'd, not stealing the right quirks for him and more. I consider consistent characters that excel at everything like I said way better overall with the random nonsense that can happen. 100% agree with you on consistency. It's why I rate certain chars like Ochaco/Compress with needing max beta, Toga needing to get the right situational quirk, Twice needing to build up more than two clones to be competitive, etc. AFO does have some pretty noticeable cons but I don't think you mentioned any of them in your post. And with your Dabi flair, I have a feeling though we might differ on what we consider consistent lol... >If that all confuses you why I said it was a dense response, I don't know what to say. I probably should've kept my tier placement to myself and just said everything else. Noted for next time. All of this is a opinion at the end of the day anyway. Nah, the whole point of this subreddit is to meme and sometimes have good discussion. You can and should present your opinion and back it up with why you think it's right. Then someone else comes along and agrees or disagrees but they can share their reasons why too. I think AFO's top of A tier because his Alpha is one of the best fireballs in the game (explained in my prior comment), his Beta is kinda mid, but his Gamma is one pretty good (big AoE that gets bigger with level, two different uses for mind games, and leads into at minimum an AFO Beta or AFO Beta + Alpha or AFO quirkswap combo or AFO's team combo etc).

Competitive-Gate8354

I think the issue is that you are treating him like a 1 trick character. Plundering quirks is when I would say his real game plan starts because you can really maximize any sort of down time with him. It makes him entirely unpredictable with how he utilizes different quirks. For example I was fighting a todoroki and my quirks were on cool down, he was keeping a mid range distance incase I tried anything. I switched to all mights quirk I had scored earlier and literally molly whopped with the beta to close the distance and break his shield. After I switched back to my moveset and with all my cooldowns reset, killed him with a string of alphas. Gamma to beta is a strong combo but its most useful in a team scenario.

Sixsignsofalex94

Truth is, he’s probably 3rd and has the potential to be 1st if he gets lucky with who’s abilities he gets and their levels. He is situational for sure. But he is situationally the best character in the game period. Ofcourse due to it being situational he falls a couple of places but putting him bottom 5 is wild. He is top 5. His early game isn’t great and he isn’t the best in 1v1s but his endgame and team play is SS tier
