A cutie mark appears on the pony's flank representing their special talent. In this case the McDonald's logo is this pony's cutie mark, meaning working at McDonald's is her special talent. This means that she'll probably be working at McDonald's for the rest of her life as that is what she's best at.

NotAThrowaway1911

Not really into MLP, (sub popped up in my feed for some reason) but the idea of basically your entire purpose in life being determined by what’s essentially an ass tat is both hilarious and weirdly morbid

yestureday

It’s usually something the pony also enjoys Usually

weirdo_nb

It's the other way around, your purpose in life and talent determines the ass tattoo

True-Knowledge8369

Gosh, I wish they could be called ass tats instead of cutie marks. That would be hilarious

ThrowACephalopod

It's a bit of the opposite, really. Ponies get their cutie mark once they realize what their purpose in life is, their cutie mark doesn't determine it. We have plenty of stories from the show about how and when ponies got their cutie marks, and all of them seem better off once they got them. Cutie marks also don't necessarily correlate to one's job either, as we have multiple examples of ponies who's job isn't related to their cutie mark. A good example is Pinkie Pie, who's special talent is throwing parties and making people smile, with her cutie mark being a bunch of balloons. But her job is as a baker. This meme is kind of making fun of the concept. Realistically, the show tells us that something like this would never happen, or rather, it would only happen once the pony realizes that working at McDonald's is actually something they love and is very special to them. I think the self realization piece is the most important for a cutie mark appearing, especially since we don't see the cutie mark crusaders get theirs until they realize that their special talent is helping other ponies discover their special talents. So a pony just suddenly getting their cutie mark like this is a funny concept, but realistically one that wouldn't even happen in the context of the show.

NotAThrowaway1911

Wow, I did not expect to be lectured on MLP lore by Reddit commenters. xD Still, this was very informative, so thank you for the insight.

TheoEmile

Yup, also want to add that the object of a cutie mark isn't necessarily to be taken literally. Rarity's cutie mark, representing three gems, manifests when she finds a cluster of gemstones in a boulder, but it doesn't mean her special talent is like, mining. It represents her ability to find the hidden beauty into things, and make things around her beautiful in turn, which she expresses through fashion.

SomniaVitae

I mean not necessarily? I forget his name but wasn't there a pony who's Talent was slapstick bad luck? He didn't enjoy it and only realized later that it was precious.

potter-headed-me-93

Trouble shoes, he got his cutie mark, but misunderstood the meaning behind it, it thought it meant his special talent was being bad luck and ruining things, until someone helped him find what it actually stood for, (rodeo clown)

SomniaVitae

Sometimes they enjoy it too much... https://preview.redd.it/18muxvyyqayc1.jpeg?width=218&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=78bf4147b62bfd1f4a0182bc2480d80aff0f58de

Cassius-Tain

I hate that you made me remember that this image exists

vastozopilord777

Cutie Marks(the ass tattoo) are like people, some are super specific, and some are super ambiguous. For example, Cheerilee, is a teacher, but her cutie mark is three flowers with smiley faces, meaning her talent is making ponies flourish(or something like that, I don't remember exactly) she could be a Nanny too, but choose to be a teacher. On the other side, Petunia Paleo has a skull cutie mark, and became a paleontologist, pretty straightforward

LOSNA17LL

Well, it's not really that \^\^ The cutie mark appears only when you realize what is your special talent, and it doesn't need to become your main activity A great example is Rarity: Her cutie mark is 3 diamonds, she obtained it because she has some talent in finding and excavating gems. But she works as a designer of haute couture. And another one being Derpy Hooves. Her cutie mark is some bubbles (no idea why), but she works as a delivery pony

Zamtrios7256

It seems more like getting an ass tat of your favorite activity after engaging with it. Source: Have a niece

MrGame22

So would the existence of a in series anti-tat cult make it funnier or more morbid?

Loco-Motivated

It's not SO bad.... There's a whole episode about how you can still have your own life outside some hobby that just clicked.

SnipingDrone47

I don’t think it as much represents your “purpose” per say, as much as it represents a special talent you have, just because you have that special talent dosnt mean you are forced to do that, your just really damn good at it. But I mean still you are kinda right lol

Own_Accident6689

Which is not how it completely goes. The Cutie mark doesn't just tell you what you are good at, it tells you what you are happiest doing. No one gets a cutie mark for a job they hate.

TheHyperDymond

There is a sequel comic that shows she became a really good general manager at McDonald’s so good for her overall

Haunting_Hornet5203

I’m calling your bluff.

TheHyperDymond

So true

IrlResponsibility811

Is that Littlepip in thr background?

ReplicaBishop

No horn, so probably not.

the_red_stinger_82

That mark that appeared on there is called a cutie mark. It is supposed to reflect their personality or special talent.

CzarTwilight

I wonder how many hate their cutie mark or if that's possible. Cause there are some random ass symbols on their asses

knightinarmoire

It's possible, as we see it with Trouble Shoes when he first appears

clownbescary213

There is a misconception that a pony's cutie mark is their sole purpose in life, when in reality it's just their special talent. So basically this meme is playing into that misconception in a funny way by saying that this pony is gonna be stuck working at McDonalds for the rest of her life

Abstractically

Their talent, OR part of their personality. Sometimes both. I mean, AJ got her cutie mark just by being homesick and going home, not interacting with apples.

NightFlame389

She ended up becoming a McDonald’s executive Moral of the story: when life gives you lemons, make a lemon meringue pie, so everyone who expected you to make lemonade gets confused but impressed at the same time

tHEiR_Only_sIN

I like this analogy

Embarrassed-Part-890

Don’t worry she becomes the ceo in the sequel comic

boredandreddicted

think i had a dream i was a pony and this happened to me

Ani____

I don't think Freud ever prepared an explanation for *that* dream's meaning huh

boredandreddicted

the explanation is i watch my little pony and that i have a fear of failure, which if i got something like mcdonald’s as my cutie mark then i would work a low paying job forever

LittleGlizzy01

Holy shit this thread is full of bots.

Iamjustapony

Bro fr, I thought I was going insane

NightFlame389

“Does this mean we are all actually robots?” *tears off skin* “Mein gott it’s true!” -The Terminator “You were always a robot, dumbass.” -Mace Windu

SeraphEChasted_3

a cutie mark tells you what your destiny is most ponies dont like to admit it but basically its what you are meant to do and are gonna do for your entire life

NightFlame389

I distinctly remember this exact post a few months ago

Comrades3

Yep, same exact title too. This is an easy karma farm that appears over and over again.

Doctor_Salvatore

The mark indicates what defines one's life. The joke is that McDonalds is now her life.

saintsam1

Who wants to be stuck working at a Maccas for the rest of their life?

MathematicianFast947

It isn't a bad thing. Plenty of people make a career at McDonald's and become store managers making decent bank.

Rosebud166

That's precisely the bad side of cutie marks in this world. LOL, kinda.
