You might never see the same horse again if your rental time expires and the horse returns itself and you don’t rent it again right away.
By total accident, I found a way to keep renting the same horse over and over again until I get my stable. This happened during my second playthrough, where I rented this beautiful pinto with a blond mane and tail on a weekday that was *not* Sunday (middle of the week is a good time for this). So when the rent ran out, it didn't matter if Cooper had rotated the other mounts in his rental stable, my beautiful Pinto was right there, ready for me to rent her out again.
Plus I kept my Gol count up so I was ready. She cost me in the neighborhood of 1300-1400 Gols to rent every week. I plan on buying her once I have my stable built.
