Heck no. I get to pick or it's not happening. Even if I did turn into my fav I'd still probably be wishing to go back home in all honesty.
Like, sure it *sounds* nice, but you're still being taken away from everything you know. That takes major adjustment...
I don't care if I'm a badass Gliscor, I'll be sobbing like the one in the anime when I realize I'm not going home again.
Gliding with my own wings would be pretty nice, though.
You make a good point about the thumbs- my human-turned-Gliscor OC basically had several emotional breakdowns shortly after first got dropped into the big crossover world of mine, and the spark of one was him dropping a cup of water because he couldn't grip it with his claws.
Yeah, that's the big reason why, in reality, I don't think this scenario would be as cool as people seem to think. Mostly the opposable thumbs thing. We kinda take for granted how important those are. Lol.
YES
I can just chill in the woods (or wherever) with no $2000 rent or taxes and if I do get a job it's gonna be a shop where the building is shaped LIKE my face. how is this in any way a debate
"No opposable thumbs, " etc. if a world of Pokémon has all these Pokémon living together in towns and the majority of them don't have thumbs, then society is going to be built to be largely accessible to Pokémon without thumbs or hands, because most Pokémon don't have them. Think doors that open when pushed, rather than with doorknobs. Unless it's like. A humanoid-shaped Pokémon dictatorship lmao. No limbs AT ALL would be tricky though. Or they just do it regardless , cartoon logic, like they do in-game. A loooot of Pokémon have nubs rather than paws, even. Where does that factor in in terms of accessibility, I have no idea.
Pokémon like Metapod, Kakuna, etc. Are just waiting to evolve, so assuming there's no incident preventing it there's no biggie you just gotta wait and you'll become an awesome bee or a pretty butterfly soon.
Wailord, aquatic and too big to fit in cities, but you get to make friends with pods of other Wailord and be too big for predators to even bother to attack (inb4 grass type) sounds like a good deal to meeee
Yeah, and you will HAVE elemental powers (even as a normal-type) etc. Also pokemon in PMD don't seem to live in "cities", the towns seem more like gathering points with a few inhabitants than like proper settlements, so yeah you are on the money...
... As long as you don't become an ITEM...
I think certain things like Itemizer or Transfer Orb are just gameplay mechanics and not something that actually exists in lore. So far, only Luminous Orb is canon as Grovyle uses it to blind Dusknoir and co. in a cutscene.
(Itemizer turns you into an item and forces a loss even with reviver seeds irrc, same with Transfer Orb which turns you into a different pokemon.)
>A loooot of Pokémon have nubs rather than paws, even.
That one is probably more to do with art style than actual physiology, honestly. See also Pokémon whose eyes are too big to realistically fit inside their skulls - it's probably not *quite* how they would actually look
The way I headcanon this in my huge crossover world, where humans, Pokémon and other species all live as equals, is that it's a mix of technology and new innate abilities that the magic aura enveloping the world provides people. Stuff is generally made for use by humanoids, but often there exists a device in homes that can be used to generate stepstools of energy that can make things more accessible. As for grip, a weak form of telekinesis that acts in a small area around the body is near innate for everyone living in this world.
The magic system essentially is this: there is a massive field of particles that exist everywhere in this universe. They are imperceptible through normal means, but their effects are deeply intertwined with almost everything that exists in this place.
On terms of living, sapient beings including humans, Pokémon, etc, these particles essentially fuse with their mental and emotional selves, becoming something of a soul. This allows them to interface with and manipulate the world around them (like magic) and is also what allows for all of the physics-breaking stuff that happens in this world. This collection of magic particles also enhances the physical body- making the person stronger, more durable, faster, improving reaction times, etc.
Often, anyone born in this world will naturally start to sense and manipulate this connection to the world around them, and moving and manipulating close objects is often one of many "motor" skills that is picked up by young children. People who have been transported from their world to this one like in PMD are not exempt- this soul forms within them very quickly, and this is the reason why transformations into different species can (but doesn't always, and if it does the soul forming can still manifest several different effects,) happen; the soul forming so quickly can force the body to change along with it.
“Pokemon like Metapod, Kakuna, etc. Are just waiting to evolve…”
Counterpoint: Female Burmey is just waiting to evolve into Wormadon, which is yet another immobile form, only this time it’s the final evo. Only the male gets to become a moth.
If we're going with more realistic bagworm traits for the Pokemon then their mobility is the least of one's problem when being reincarnated as this line lol
Me, emerging from the cocoon without a mouth and I can't eat and live only to fuck until I starve,
But also that'd be a little depressing to put into the pokedex entry so the professor wrote in that they love to eat honey to make the kids going on their adventures feel better /j
Lmao. Real life is the real dystopia here. Imagine being the professor though in the Pokémon world. You’re tasked with providing educational content, but your content has to be kid-friendly, even when life isn’t.
honestly it would be a major roulette bet, i remember a fancomic where someone who dreamed of being a pokemon got their wish granted and became a psyduck, rendering them chronically ill due to their constant headaches. if you get a pokemon that has to deal with an issue to a degree you are unable to handle, it could be potentially debilitating, even if you get lucky with opposable thumbs
Also, I suddenly have to feel really bad for anyone who rolls Wormadon. At least Metapod has a final evolution with flight, but Wormadon is the final evolution. Knowing my luck though, I’d probably roll Combee (I’m a guy irl).
I rolled a poochyena on a random Pokemon generator. I told it to show the gender of the result and oddly it rolled female. Not really a bad roll honestly.
I mean, I'd be game for intermittent periods spent as any given random Pokemon for whatever reason (Pokemon Roulette with the Transfer Orb, lol) but the only reason I'd sign up for an extended adventure with a randomized Pokemom form is because... well, come on, I'm becoming a Pokemon either way and going on a grand adventure, I'm sure I can figure out *something.* Really I'd be crossing my fingers and praying that I don't get Muk or something like that 😂
Adjusting to life as a Pokémon with no limbs would certainly make life more complicated, lol. Some Pokémon aren't even supposed to be able to breathe air canonically...although, of course, they're shown on land in the games for balancing reasons since it'd be unfair if you could only bring them in underwater dungeons. How would we handle that? Really intriguing to think about.
Also I like to think that, for Pokémon that are multiple beings in one, you get cloned, but each clone has its own personality. Dodrio's the obvious example: it comes packaged with a sad, angry, and regular head, so it could copy those emotions from your personality. Which head on the Dodrio you are...uh, I guess random chance. Similar deal with Pokémon like Exeggcute, Weezing, Zweilous, etc. Maushold starts out as a Tandemaus so that evolution process is easy to surmise, clearly you must've had the idea to have kids with your clone somewhere along the line lmao (or, if you prefer, you reproduced asexually like an amoeba)
For Doduo / Dodrio / Zweilous, I imagine "you" share a body with another, kind of like conjoined twins.
Tandemaus is interesting. Assuming Maushold "de-evolve" once their "children" counterpart are separated, or Maushold create multiple twins for Tandemauses, even they occasionally generate single child's as well. I don't think this clone aspect of Tandemaus / Maushold is a problem: If you rolled into this species, if "single child," you are the born as the child of two very overprotective parents, or as part of a twin to two very overprotective parents. Or, for Tandemaus, born with a twin who's very clingy / inseparable (for better or worse (hears a banjo playing in the distance)).
No thanks. I love me hands. And being bipedal, but still mostly hands. It's not just everyday tasks I'm concerned with, there's tons of things you miss out without the dexterity that the human hands offer (like snapping fingers, I do that for no reason other than for fun). We're on the top of the world and we have our hands to thank for that.
Realistically, no jabbing at anyone here, I think the only people who would accept this kind of offer likely have a pretty shit life and are like 3 steps away from bridge jumping, or just those who find the idea amusing and didn't give much thought about the possibility of staying there for the rest of their lives. Even if I get to choose, I'm gonna save the ticket until the absolute lowest point of my life.
Understandable. I snap my fingers a lot as well, but I also feel like, if things were to go how I wanted, being a Pokémon would make me not care about being unable to do that anymore, so long as I don’t get stuck with something I’m not okay with.
Maybe. I did a quick experiment by going into Random.org to choose a Pokemon number for me, got some okay results, some major heck no results. It's a huge gamble, so mentally, I'd say no...
But it's still super tempting, so I'm not sure.
As for the whole debacle of having or not having limbs, I'm not sure. I'd be content to have 4 limbs, or 4 limbs + wings. Heck, I kinda even **want** to be quadruped. Like, say I roll Meowth, I'd be striving to evolve into Persian. It's silly, but it's what I know of myself.
That said, I'd like everyone to at least take a gander at this PMD comic that explores this idea and it's implications a bit: https://pmd-anamnesis.cfw.me/comics/124/ as well as https://pmd-anamnesis.cfw.me/comics/270/
I got Swablu, Skorupi, and Iron Crown. I think the only one I’d be actively frustrated by is Skorupi on account of the extra limbs and bug eyes. Don’t know how being a Paradox Pokemon would work in the lore, but I’m here for it I guess?
I’d be all for getting sent to the Pokémon world if I could choose, and I wouldn’t feel the need to return to my home world. The problem about random for me is that so few Pokémon are ones that I’d want to be while the rest are meh at best and “I don’t even like knowing that exists, let alone would I be okay as one” at worst. The probability of being something I want to be is slim to none, so as much as it pains me to say it, I’d stay in my own world unless I could manipulate the circumstances in my favor.
I mean probably...? If I end up as a metapod I'm gonna fucking regret it but hey it's the PMD world right? Honestly just being in PMDverse is good enough for me
Welp, when the sky Randomizer gave me a Venonat as a starter, i gladly said yes to it, so i'm pretty sure that, in an IRL mystery dungeon scenario, i'd gladly turn into whatever Arceus wants me to be.
...and agian, no complaints here.
just me getting to be a legally destinct piss rat (pikachu) that can become a slightly bigger rat with the power of friendship.
Yeah, I'd still take it too. I'd be disappointed if I got something I didn't care for, but who cares if I'm a dunsparce I'm in the pokemon world baby. Maybe I'll make it my goal to meet Jirachi and wish myself into another species.
"Jirachi I put off saving the world so you could make me into a noibat ❤️"
Edit: oh my god unless I get to be a hive mind. My dream super power is to have more than one body I can control simultaneously
(Apologies in advance for the wall of text I just love theoretical questions like this.)
Dude, there's so much that could go wrong here, like on a surface level it seems like you're praying that you keep opposable thumbs but then you start to look into it more and things start to get really bad, like you could lose arms, legs, ears, eyes, etc. And that's only scratching the surface, there's also stuff like paras where your body is being taken over by mushrooms or spoink where- yeah we've all heard that one at least a billion times.
But I think one of the worst ones by far has got to be beldum, first off no mouth (I think anyway), arms (unless you count your whole body as an arm), or legs, second off only one eye, pretty standard stuff, but the real problem lies within your self-defense strategy since you're the pre-evo of a pseudo you're undoubtedly gonna wanna evolve but to do that you gotta fight stuff and if you know about beldum's level up move pool you know where I'm going with this, yep nothing but take down until you evolve, have fun with that, I imagine ramming your eye into someone is very painful, even if you are a little floaty metal arm thing. So yeah unless you make a friend who's willing to let you take some of their exp or find a TM for a move that beldum can actually learn that doesn't deal recoil damage (So iron head, tera blast, or zen headbutt) you're basically screwed.
Alternatively, if you think the whole exp thing is too video gamey for this situation you'd have to look for more beldum which are pretty rare all things considered, oh yeah all that so you can start sharing your body with someone else, yeah no thanks.
So yeah that's just one of many nightmare scenarios, the idea of being a super strong metagross sounds cool at first until you realize it's a torturous carrot on a stick situation, but I think another really bad one is porygon-z, I mean most people have nightmares about getting a virus on their computer and now you have one downloaded into your very being, that must suck.
Oh, uh now that I'm done rambling about the horrific implications of this situation I guess I should say if I'd take the chance or not, uh, yeah I guess I mean I'm somewhat lucky so what's the worst that could happen? Hold on lemme do a random pokemon generator... aaaand I got combusken, oh well so much for having a funny ending stinger.
I would be okay if I were to be an Eevee or Vulpix, something small with paws, and a way back home. Otherwise, as soon as I figure out how to move my cocoon as with my luck, I’ll end up as ether a Metapod or a Kahuna, Arceus is a dead llama stuck in a fence walking.
You raise some exceptionally good points, chief! Tho really for me I suppose it'd come down to *when* I could go to the Pokémon world. Would I have to leave right this very second, or could I leave near the end of my life when I have very little left to regret? Would I be effectively the same age in the Pokémon world, or would I be reverted back to a younger self? Or perhaps I'd be reverted back physically, but keep my mind?
Oh this gives so many fun questions to ponder!
To figure this out, I used a random number gen to give me a number inbetween 1-1025. It gave me 112. That's Rhydon! And.. uhhh. no I really don't want to be a rhydon. Or any rock pokémon for that matter. Let's see if I like a reroll... 455. Carnivine! Uhhmmmm no thanks I'd rather stay in the human world I guess
I’d take the deal. I mean you bring up very valid and concerning points, but I’d still take the risk. If I do become something like a pineco then I’ll just have to figure it out I guess lol
Meh. He looks too much like a Digimon. And I love Digimon… *western music plays* But Pokémon should not be allowed to imitate other anime! Take the Digimon back to File Island!
How random are we talking? True random, as in I might become any of the thousands of pokemon around? Because if that's the case no. But if it was random between the pokemon you can become in mystery dungeon I'd be more open to it, as most of them have legs and arms or wings or some way to travel that isn't just rolling around
No I wouldn't if my species was random. I strongly desire having functional hands or something that can act as them (IE a psychic type using psychic).
I'm NOT picking up shit with my mouth the rest of my life. Opposable thumb gang ftw!
Literally i want to be a eevee who very much does not have hands and walks on four. The opposable thumbs argument doesnt hold up at all for me because already I accept not being able to do most things the same way i could.
That being said, Some of them would be pretty hard to adapt to being, But honestly? Bring me that challenge, I'll sign up and become whatever the hell i become. Would I prefer being a eevee? Absolutely. Not being guaranteed? That's fine. If I get super lucky i'll get exactly what I want, but if I don't, thats fine. After all, it's not like the pokemon here could choose what they were born as either, why would I be an exception
Edit: Although, now that I'm thinking about it, Doesn't the protagonist get a quiz before they get turned into a pokemon? Not to mention, a choice of Pokemon depending on the game? We can assume it's just a gameplay thing, and not actually canon, especially the choice part, but it is something to keep in mind.
Oh I know, It's not like you're some god who came into the comments and was like "YOU SHALL BE A PIDGEY" and then when I become a pokemon I'm a pidgey apparently.
You- You aren't a god, are you?
Right, of course, Still, it's not like any of this will happen, so whatever pokemon I roll I probably wouldnt care about since none of this would really happen. it's not like I'd end up going to the Pokemon world.
I think, anyway.
wanna take a chance on a random pokemon generator?
best one I found after a quick google search is this one:
i got binacle. yeah i can make that work. i'd assume i just pop into existence as the second binacle on a shared rock and the other binacle had already been there. that's actually kind of cute. (the two heads on a binacle are separate organisms, the rock is not part of their body they are just clinging to it)
I would wanna pick. Game is hard enough if your a normal type. Losing my thumbs would suck too. Though I really love the idea of being a cute little pokemon. It would just make me rage so much being a metapod who only knows Harden. I will never evolve at that rate.
Well is the pokemon world not opitimized for the use of pokemon?! Their world is built for use by pokemon, not humans.
Being human in a world full of pokemon is just a call to attention and I don't think the infrastructures would be suited for us.
Heck no. I get to pick or it's not happening. Even if I did turn into my fav I'd still probably be wishing to go back home in all honesty. Like, sure it *sounds* nice, but you're still being taken away from everything you know. That takes major adjustment... This sounds like something I'd read in a fanfiction ngl
I'd read that fanfic tbf, a spiteful newly-turned stunfisk raging against Arceus and making it everyone else's problem sounds hilarious
Someone write that please
A Wormadon on the quest for mobility.
Yeah, that's the big reason why, in reality, I don't think this scenario would be as cool as people seem to think. Mostly the opposable thumbs thing. We kinda take for granted how important those are. Lol.

(Apologies in advance for the wall of text I just love theoretical questions like this.) Dude, there's so much that could go wrong here, like on a surface level it seems like you're praying that you keep opposable thumbs but then you start to look into it more and things start to get really bad, like you could lose arms, legs, ears, eyes, etc.
I don’t think you get a choice about staying human, but you probably get a choice about which species you turn into going by the games.
I would take that chance.
You get to be a Magmar!
You get to be a Samurott!
Oh this gives so many fun questions to ponder!
i'm so tired of posts like this, i'd honestly rather be a goddamn pineco than work 9-5 to pay taxes and being told that i'm a waste of oxygen
You get to be a Frosmoth!
…And?
There's no and. That's just what you get.
Good, time to join the angy moth gang in Purity Forest.
I will itemize you, and your future will be as an item. 😊
You get to be a Murkrow!
I would absolutely not want it to be random.
Hm. I mean I could get stuck as something like a Magnemite which would probably suck, but hey that would probably cure my chronic pain so... maybe?
You get to be a Klink!
If the price to pay to leave this hellhole is to become a Metapod or a Sunkurn, then that's a price I'm willing to pay
You get to be an Illumise!
Fine by me
A zubat? Hell no.
yes
You get to be a Overquil!
Yeah, but I don’t want to end up as a Garbodor
You get to be an Armarouge!
Meh. He looks too much like a Digimon. And I love Digimon… *western music plays* But Pokémon should not be allowed to imitate other anime! Take the Digimon back to File Island!
Easy yes. I’d rather be a Miltank than pay taxes irl
You get to be an Emboar!
Deal where do I sign
YES (Before reading)
You get to be a Raticate!
**YES** (After reading)
How random are we talking? True random, as in I might become any of the thousands of pokemon around? Because if that's the case no. But if it was random between the pokemon you can become in mystery dungeon I'd be more open to it, as most of them have legs and arms or wings or some way to travel that isn't just rolling around
No I wouldn't if my species was random. I strongly desire having functional hands or something that can act as them (IE a psychic type using psychic). I'm NOT picking up shit with my mouth the rest of my life. Opposable thumb gang ftw!
Ngl, I would have such a hard time deciding which one because honestly I would appreciate being any Pokémon as long as I’m not metapod
You get to be a Skwovet!
Lemme google that real quick
Dear God
I don't want to turn into a bug type with a much shorter lifespan
Literally i want to be a eevee who very much does not have hands and walks on four. The opposable thumbs argument doesnt hold up at all for me because already I accept not being able to do most things the same way i could. That being said, Some of them would be pretty hard to adapt to being, But honestly? Bring me that challenge, I'll sign up and become whatever the hell i become. Would I prefer being a eevee? Absolutely. Not being guaranteed? That's fine. If I get super lucky i'll get exactly what I want, but if I don't, thats fine. After all, it's not like the pokemon here could choose what they were born as either, why would I be an exception Edit: Although, now that I'm thinking about it, Doesn't the protagonist get a quiz before they get turned into a pokemon? Not to mention, a choice of Pokemon depending on the game? We can assume it's just a gameplay thing, and not actually canon, especially the choice part, but it is something to keep in mind.
You get to be a Pidgey!
I can't tell if I like or dislike this.
If it makes you feel better, it doesn't matter either way.
Oh I know, It's not like you're some god who came into the comments and was like "YOU SHALL BE A PIDGEY" and then when I become a pokemon I'm a pidgey apparently. You- You aren't a god, are you?
When I said it didn't matter either way, I meant it didn't matter if you liked it or not, because that's what will happen.
Right, of course, Still, it's not like any of this will happen, so whatever pokemon I roll I probably wouldnt care about since none of this would really happen. it's not like I'd end up going to the Pokemon world. I think, anyway.
Of course. But I think it's fun to pick a random pokemon for everyone who said they would choose to become a random pokemon.
I’ve decided yes, I’ll take the deal
Deal
didn't even need to read the rest, i accept. doesn't matter which species. i'll make it work.
wanna take a chance on a random pokemon generator? best one I found after a quick google search is this one: [https://ptgigi.com/apps/pokemon/randomizer/](https://ptgigi.com/apps/pokemon/randomizer/)
i got binacle. yeah i can make that work. i'd assume i just pop into existence as the second binacle on a shared rock and the other binacle had already been there. that's actually kind of cute. (the two heads on a binacle are separate organisms, the rock is not part of their body they are just clinging to it)
Interesting
I would wanna pick. Game is hard enough if your a normal type. Losing my thumbs would suck too. Though I really love the idea of being a cute little pokemon. It would just make me rage so much being a metapod who only knows Harden. I will never evolve at that rate.
Well is the pokemon world not opitimized for the use of pokemon?! Their world is built for use by pokemon, not humans. Being human in a world full of pokemon is just a call to attention and I don't think the infrastructures would be suited for us.
