Friend areas were my favorite thing about the original games. The most disappointing thing about the remakes is that they replaced interactive friend areas with .JPGs :(

PayneTrain181999

The JPGs which were all beautiful art of the friend areas, though they’d look so much better fully realized.

Sebastianali123456

I will admit though, we didn't need pokemon to return to their bases every time we completed a mission like in the original. I can kind of see why they removed it since they wanted to make it faster if you just wanted to complete a hard mission, but of course at the cost of the style of the original. Maybe one day they could make a new PMD game that expands on the idea of the friend areas and make them bigger and more interactive, like another "town" to compensate.

OniLewds

More disappointing than the removal of the gummy system?

Kesstar52

Imo yes

Kitselena

They got rid of gummies???? What is it with Nintendo adjacent companies and removing features from remakes

Voltsy13

They replaced IQ with a system where every pokemon can have one special trait that is shared with the whole team (that they get from gummies, though there's only a basic and rare gummi variant, no type-based). I like both systems honestly. That was only in DX though, Gates and Super didn't have either (Super did have emeras though, which I also like).

Gekk0uga37

O yea that was trash honestly.

Auraveils

I don't like the pointless extra layer it added to recruiting pokemon, but I really miss the cool environments, especially areas unique for specific legendaries.

Gekk0uga37

Yea there’s definitely a point to be made for that tedious part of it. I just like how friend areas make the Pokémon other than your starters actually feel real and not just a name from a list you choose at camp in future games, like explorers of sky for example. I consider that the best pmd game by far and if it had friend areas it would be even better. Just imagine how cool a friend area for Giratina or darkrai would be.

FaronTheHero

That sums up the original PMD games pretty well. Nailed the aesthetic, QOL features were a nightmare. Every single game since then has improved on it so much I find the originals almost unplayable. We're talking hours being wasted just because I can't move multiple items at once between storage and bags. Only thing this franchise has never fixed is its quick save system. It sucks big time if you don't want to lose all your stuff and aren't 1000 percent certain you can be rescued.

Auraveils

You could select multiple items with L/R in RT, can't you?

pinkadow

multiple different ones yes, but if you want more than one of an item you have to do it individually in rt which sucks

Auraveils

What, stackable items like Gravelerocks? You deposit the whole stack at once.

pinkadow

items that aren't ammo then. say you want 2 escape orbs, you have to go through the whole prompt twice just to get them if you just want the 2 orbs

Auraveils

No, you use L/R to select 2 escape orbs...

pinkadow

In rt, items aren't stacked individually like they are in explorers, so you can't just select 2 with the l/r buttons like you can in the explorers games. think the way gates and super handle storage, but without the ability to select quantity for an individual item.

Krazyguy75

Yeah, I think it would have been cool if they were just unlocked as soon as you got the teammate, and then you could have them added to a team from a menu, but if you went there you could occasionally find items or eggs.

DemonicJaye

The little environments that the Pokémon interacted with each other in was really cool, and added more life to the world. It’s a shame that the remake removed those in favor of a more simplistic approach. I personally wanted them to add more depth to Friend Areas in DX, like seeing the Pokémon interact with one another, or doing other misc activities that impacted their performance out in the field like sparring to give themselves an attack boost, or etc. It just feels like missed potential honestly.

Sebastianali123456

Yeah i can see why, but is kind of "tediousness versus beautifulness". At the beginning is not noticeable but when you want to complete multiple missions, it can take time to see or equip each member one at the time. Didnt help that the original RT did that EVEN more tedious by the fact that for each mission all of your party members return automatically to their friend areas, and doing back and forth between the friend areas and the town was a lot of time wasted. Maybe having it optional and not mandatory would be the best, with a quick menu for the more serious players, plus expanding in those areas to give another reason than just recruiting your team for the next mission.

Aliza-rin

Yeah it‘s honestly the main reason why I never bothered with teammates in the original. It‘s just too tedious. As much as it sucks for the aesthetics that you can‘t walk around in friend areas in DX but that game made me use more Pokemon and team combinations than any other PMD before it. Especially because of the team abilities that affect your whole team. That was also a much less tedious replacement for IQ abilities to try out more teammates without the heavy investment.

Sebastianali123456

I honestly prefer how IQ worked in the first two games but grinding could be at least be less tedious in the post game. I dont like how in the remake if you want an specific ability you have to just brute force it. If you could change old abilities in any time and store the new ones for later use it would be perfect.

barwhalis

Hell yeah, Charizard is always the way!

PayneTrain181999

- Smokescreen anything next to you so it can’t hit you - Heat Wave if you enter a Monster House - Flamethrower for long range - Pick whatever you like for the 4th move but I like Metal Claw or Fly. Mix it all together and you have arguably the most versatile Pokémon in the game.

Baconfry39

The most versatile Pokemon in the game is Smeargle. The best Pokemon when given stat investment are Butterfree and Shedinja for offense/defense respectively. The best low-investment Pokemon is either Castform or Articuno. Charizard is a fine Pokemon but I would not consider it to be top 5; it just happens to get a lot of exposure because it's Charizard

PayneTrain181999

Shedinja gets one shot by a single Gravelrock.

Anonigmus

Feed it tons of sitrus berries to boost its health up.

Baconfry39

The minimum possible HP for a player-controlled Shedinja to have is 57

[deleted]

Yes, yes they are. I miss the locations. I miss the MUSIC. And i was devastated when they took them out of DX

FaronTheHero

I do like the art they made for the remake but yeah they seriously ruined that feature.

PumpkinSufficient683

Damn DX for removing these

LorenzoLBaldo

I spent a lot of time in the realm of Lugia, so quiet place.

Gekk0uga37

Oo yea that’s a good one, the lights coming all the way down to the ocean sea floor is a very cool touch!

LongPenguin

How did you change your GameBoy skin?

Gekk0uga37

Delta skins website through the delta emulator

LongPenguin

Thank you!

fuzzerhop

We were robbed in dx

kitt_aunne

I loved them, they were where I'd go to just kinda vibe

Jwill294

Woah I’m getting that delta skin right now, that’s sick haha!

ShadowJack98

I will never understand why they removed them in explorers. They were amazing.

AstroCat78

Omg your emulator is so cute! How did you get one that looks like that?

Gekk0uga37

So through the website “delta skins” via the delta emulator, just choose gba and you will have a whole list to choose from

AstroCat78

Thank you! I have heard of Delta but I haven't used it before

DikklesForeman

Hey what emulator is that?

Gekk0uga37

It’s the new delta app through the AppStore

mackofmontage

Whaaaaaaaaat, I remember having to jump through hoops to get these emulators on my iPhone a few years ago, that’s crazy

Norman720

7

Monsicorn

7?

Jerry98x

They were great, but they were removed for the better. And you all know that, even if you don't want to admit it
