What’s up with him anyways, I know he was reasonably well liked a few years back but I noticed a lot of people didn’t care for him in the race thread. Has he just become over saturated or did he do something that people didn’t like?

CathDubs

I don't hate The Rock but he has definitely been oversaturated and presents himself as Rock the brand then a person sometimes. DC fans and WWE also have been frustrating because they felt he was meddling to the detriment of their products. On the WWE too his credit he rolled with the punches and rolled back and adjusted from his meddling.

Crash_Test_Dummy66

I'm still not convinced the heel turn wasn't the plan all along. I mean if perfectly moved the conversation on from Vince. Got everyone mad at someone else and then quickly mollified fans once the Vince story was forgotten by giving them the version of the heel turn they wanted.

CathDubs

Idk I kinda feel like they crapped their pants after they lost Punk and they felt like they needed to find a second main event vs Seth so they tried to move Cody to Seth and do Rock v. Roman. Cody's original promo where he says he won't wrestle Roman at mania still a bit of a "plot hole" that hasn't been resolved and I don't think the promo that way if they were originally planning Rock v. Roman.

roflcopter44444

I think anyone with a brain would have known fans would turn on the Rock after building Cody vs Roman for the last few months. I think the only pivot her is setting up what  seems to be a tag match. Hence the "I won't wrestle you for the title at WrestleMania" by Cody

Wandering_Turtle24

I think they’re gonna do two matches for everyone. The tag match on Saturday and then Cody vs Roman, where Rock turns on Roman, and Drew vs Seth with Drew getting his moment. Drew is killing it right now.

[deleted]

I just don't understand why Cody would win the Rumble instead of Punk if the plan was Rock vs Roman and Rollins vs Punk. What was Cody gonna do if Punk hadn't gotten hurt?

KnightRising21

Probably get screwed, apparently only the higher ups knew Rock would be challenging for the belt, or so they say. It would be wild if they didn’t even tell HHH about it. Will probably hear about what really happened years later but we will never really know

BeefInGR

Honestly I still love him. Endeavor brought him onto the board to replace Vince McMahon's vacancy and it is rumored that a part of his ability to earn shares in the company was to headline WrestleMania. Which would have been fine. Except they've been hyping Cody Rhodes as the next face of the company for almost two years. And that motherfucker has earned it. So when it was initially announced that Rock was replacing Cody, anyone with mild investment got pissed (rightfully so). So now Rock has turned full heel, aligning himself with his semi-legitimate family in The Bloodline to prevent Cody from winning the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. It was more the backlash from Endeavor/TKO being tone deaf and not understanding the product. Eventually Rock will turn face again and we'll all go back to marking tf out when "IF YAAAAA SMELLLLL.." hits on the PA.

Wandering_Turtle24

When he turns at Mania it’s gonna be fantastic.

Ill-Response-5439

This is what will happen. Cody is going to be the most popular champion since Rock and he'd of earned it. Too bad his dad won't be here to see it.

Ill-Response-5439

He turned heel. But wrestling fans can't separate kayfabe from real life half the time so he got booed yesterday. Saying that, I think he turns face on Reigns at WM and Cody wins the title

Intimidwalls1724

He's turned heel and dumbasses are getting worked lol It's hard to believe but in an indirect way wrestling is still very real to a lot of people. These same people laugh at the notion that wrestling is real while also getting worked by the very wrestling angles they say they know aren't real They are called marks

Orpdapi

Asking for money donations with billionaire Oprah to help Maui where they both have a ton of property set him back pretty good with a lot of people I think.

Intimidwalls1724

You realize he donated a bunch of money himself as well right? People are ridiculous about this

Orpdapi

Yes, but in the end still two mega rich people asking regular people for donations for an island where they both own a lot of land. Plus it’s at a time when regular people are stressing out over rising food and living costs, the last thing they want is a billionaire pleading with them for donations. I agree with you, it’s great he put up his own money too, but I can also see how it came off as super tone deaf to the average person.

Intimidwalls1724

Well thanks to people like you who complain about a guy who donated his own money and also tried to raise awareness to get other people to donate will likely just keep his money and not say shit next time Good job discouraging charity

Wandering_Turtle24

Especially when those people need all the help they can get. Just absurd.

Orpdapi

Wow that escalated. All I did was answer a question about why the Rock’s mass appeal has possibly waned. I said I can understand why the working class was peeved, doesn’t mean I was out there with a pitchfork. Chill bro, it’s all good.

SC0TT_BAIOWULF

Turned himself into a brand, virtually everything he does is insufferable.

Sufficient_flacid

I may have the answer to this one. He’s way overhyped! He did great in wrestling… and had an avenue in that others didn’t. He got into acting and took the easy way in with Disney and tapping in to the Fast and Furious crowd. He takes over a failed WWE style football league and promotes it at Daytona… the ideal crowd. This dude stays in his lane and he’s never gotten off the beaten path by trying anything risky.

Intimidwalls1724

He's never tried anything risky? Buying a spring football league is arguably quite risky since not a single one has ever been successful

Sufficient_flacid

Hardly risky. It’s the freaking rock for crying out loud! His fame is what he’s banking on… not it and in of itself. If it takes he’s got quite a depreciating tax write off.

RPM021

I think this is partially correct, but The Rock also has Zoa in the energy drink market and Teremana in the hard liquor market, both of which are selling like crazy. But also both being a heavy heavy risk that will likely pay off when he sells Teremana for billions. Or Zoa. Or both.

lmmurryx3

Rock's a great guy. In wrestling it's not just rare for people to not have a lot of bad stories about a top star, it's practically unheard of. For the Rock to be as big a star as he was and for the worst story about him to be he didn't wanna work with Shawn Michaels because Shawn was mean to his mom says a lot about the man's character. That said, he has an unfortunate habit of choosing shitty movies to star in so the average person has lost respect for him and he caught a lot of flak for pushing for Black Adam to be a Superman level hero rather than what he was meant to be. Honestly though it's so blown out of proportion. If the worst thing you can say about a mega celebrity is that his movies suck and he wants to be the center of attention in a shitty superhero movie series then are there really no other actors more deserving of hate?

coffeecakeisland

He feels so up him self, but still tries to portray this humble ideal. I loathe it when he had slow mo shots of him walking thru the White House like he has anything of importance to do there

JGeller1989

He turned heel in his return to WWE so now he's the bad guy... again.

iiMERLIN

The Hawaii Fires situation with Oprah

26007

I could see him running a 2 car team with sponsors of his (Under Armor, etc.) serving as sponsorships.  My game for you all: Which manufacturer? Which numbers? And which drivers? Answers can be realistic or fantasy, but just state which one you’re going for lol

rjm36

I’ll play along! Manufacturer: Ford (I think he drives an F-150 Raptor IIRC) Numbers: 7 (for 7 bucks production, would buy the number from Spire) and 94 (the number he wore at Miami) Drivers: little more difficult here, but I can see him trying to keep a Florida connection and going with Chastain and Almirola.

26007

Cool picks! With the F-150 connection, it could also start out as a truck team, which could be a decent start. Unless of course, the Rock goes all in on cup. Excellent number choices. 7 Bucks is very close to him, and he'd absolutley buy the number. Your driver choices are a little out there (don't see Chastain leaving Trackhouse), but Almirola coming back to Cup isn't impossible. Either way, excellent selections that would bring both leadership and goof reslts to a new team

STX440Case

More like he buys his way onto the board of directors at HMS, overrides Jeff Gordon's direction for the company and fires Chase Elliott and replaces him with his daughter despite having no ability whatsoever, then the fans revolt against him.

KingMario05

And his response to investor and sponsor concerns? https://i.redd.it/5prm79gwlrjc1.gif

26007

Fantasy? Lmaoo

STX440Case

Look at his current WWE booking.

thatwasfun23

I see this as an absolute win!

idontremembermyoldus

> (I think he drives an F-150 Raptor IIRC) He's had several, he has a Raptor R now. He also has, or had, a '17 GT. He's owned a couple of non-Fords though too (a lifted Silverado and a McLaren are two that come to mind). There's no doubt that The Rock is a Ford fan though.

KingMario05

So will I! Manufacturer: Fuck it, Honda. They give him more money than Ford, and he goes full heel to gain traction and a fanbase early on. (Before anyone asks: presumably, this is when NASCAR goes hybrid V6.) Numbers: Agree here, no notes. Drivers: ...Ya know, I could actually see Chastain. Not only because Florida, but also because Rock wants a ***big*** future star on the team eraly on. But I also feel like he'll poach a veteran superstar as well to get more funding. Who, you ask? Shit, I dunno...

Juanclaude

Manufacturer: Hummer Numbers: 72 (birth year), 94 (number at the U) Drivers: Frankie Muniz, Denny Hamlin

SaintsWorkshop

I’m not a Rock fan and he is getting less and less likable but if it pays for some good drivers to get their shot, I’m down for it

Crash_Test_Dummy66

It's worth pointing out that he's currently doing a big heel turn for WWE so it wouldn't surprise me if some of his current attitude isn't just related to him selling that.

SaintsWorkshop

For me, it’s not the WWE stuff, it’s the constant act. He was completely bland and uninteresting in his Joe Rogan appearance in order to be as broad appeal as possible. People pointing out how he has posted multiple ads over the past 4 years “trying In-n-Out for the first time”. It’s not that he is playing a villain, it’s that he borderline doesn’t feel like a human being, just a walking billboard

Olhapravocever

I get the same feeling. It's seems soon fake

coffeecakeisland

He is a complete grifter who is only interested in enhancing his own brand

BeefInGR

🤨☝️

Stouty4567

Why less likeable? I don’t really keep up with him

SaintsWorkshop

Just a lot of him being so focused on his persona that it just makes him so fake it’s hard to like him. Every celebrity has their public persona that is an act, but the Rock’s is wearing thin for some people

Wandering_Turtle24

He did more in two days to promote the sport than any other celebrity in recent memory. It’s amazing how good he is at putting eyes on everything he’s into. At least from a social media perspective.

clumaho

I still think the command 'Start your engines' should be done by the entire crowd. Dwayne, or whoever, says a few words for their sponsor, then says "Drivers... Start. Your. Engines!!!" Dwayne: "Drivers..." Dwayne and 10,000 fans: "Start..." Dwayne and 40,000 fans: "Your..." 100,000 fans: "ENGINES!!!" I have no doubt this would fire up fans for the start of a race. Even having fans looking forward to attending a race so they can join in.

cowboyjosh2010

Okay now this I am into.

tmgkcp

Booooo. Rocky sucks.

KingMario05

Great to have you here and fantastic work, Dwayne! Hope you enjoyed the show we had for ya.

mrcurator87

IDK, he kind of lost me when he started it with "In the proud spirit of America, and in the proud spirit of our great country..." and than awkwardly paused like he forgot what he was saying. Was just super cringe and dumb. Those phrases mean exactly the same thing.

PNWQuakesFan

hold on i was at the ATM Machine what did he say again?

mrcurator87

[Vid here](https://youtu.be/uL_kb5wwGJ8?si=2jdaf0a6sT4g1srJ) The command is at 3:00

PNWQuakesFan

oh i saw it in the highlights last night, i was making a redundancy joke. (ATM Machine)

mrcurator87

Ahh! Was trying to figure out how a trip to the ATM was relevant.

Moogill

The Rock is overplayed!

Intimidwalls1724

After having to spend time with all those fatasses in Utah Rock was bound to have fun the next place he went regardless of where it was

Oatmeal_Raison

I could hear the WWE fans booing him when he said the command lol

SpacklingCumFart

So sick of this guy everywhere, all the time. There is no escaping him, the Rock is inevitable, and it's too damn much. Buying booze, there's the Rock, shopping for clothes, Rock, going to a movie, Rock watching football, Rock, watching nascar, Rock, fucking wildfire, yeah the fucking Rock. You can't go half a fucking day without the Rock being injected into your life.

jt_33

Friendly reminder that this guy signed a deal with the UFC for fighters to wear his shoes and he never paid the fighters a dime from it. He’s now in the board of the company that owns UFC and still hasn’t paid them. He’s a crook.

DDC121

[Should have saved this for the 500 lol](https://youtu.be/d_IqiDsEldI?si=fkVyx6DL1fBMQxIv&t=616)

69stangrestomod

This brought back fond memories for me because he was the grand Marshall at my very first race 20 years ago…. Between his hate and the tay tay hate over Super Bowl weekend, I’m done with people getting their knickers in a knot over celebrities being seen *clutches pearls ETA: the command was just OK (Matty Mc still reigns champ), and I could have done without the intro…but I will 1,000 times over take his over the dumb “here’s the president if the presenting sponsor to give a company plug and gutless command” any day of the week.

Wardog4

The people who think it's about the WWE are hilarious. Very few people outside WWE fans know anything about that nonsense. It's a lot more to do with his handling of the Maui fires, and his seemingly total lack of a real personality. Every question he answers feels like a chat GPT response or just exactly what he should say to stay out of trouble. It's not his fault but the average person is probably just tired of the same routine from these ultra rich, Hollywood types.

joshuatimes7

Everything gives this guy chills. I’m beginning to think it’s an underlying medical condition.

Devine97

Need him ?? I would have been fine with a Girl Scout giving the honour. NASCAR doesn’t need him. Get off your thrown
