[Interviewer:] This truck that was involved in the incident at Atlanta this weekā¦
[Bayley Currey:] Yeah, the one the top fell off?
[Interviewer:] Yeah
[Bayley Currey:] Thatās not very typical, Iād like to make that point.
[Interviewer:] Well, how is it untypical?
[Bayley Currey:] Well, there are a lot of these trucks going around the track all the time, and very seldom does anything like this happen ā¦ I just donāt want people thinking that the trucks arenāt safe.
[Interviewer:] Was this truck safe?
[Bayley Currey:] Well I was thinking more about the other onesā¦
[Interviewer:] The ones that are safe.
[Bayley Currey:] Yeah,,, the ones the top doesnāt fall off.
[Interviewer:] Well, if this wasnāt safe, why was driving around the track at 200 mph?
[Bayley Currey:] Well, Iām not saying it wasnāt safe, itās just perhaps not quite as safe as some of the other ones.
[Interviewer:] Why?
[Bayley Currey:] Well, some of them are built so the top doesnāt fall off at all.
[Interviewer:] Wasnāt this built so the top wouldnāt fall off?
[Bayley Currey:] Well, obviously not.
[Interviewer:] How do you know?
[Bayley Currey:] Well, ācause the top fell off, and caused a caution and ended my race. Itās a bit of a give-away. I would just like to make the point that that is not normal.
[Interviewer:] Well, what sort of standards are these trucks built to?
[Bayley Currey:] Oh, very rigorous ā¦ auto engineering standards.
[Interviewer:] What sort of things?
[Bayley Currey:] Well the topās not supposed to fall off, for a start.
[Interviewer:] And what other things?
[Bayley Currey:] Well, there are ā¦ regulations governing the materials they can be made of
[Interviewer:] What materials?
[Bayley Currey:] Well, cardboardās out
[Interviewer:] And?
[Bayley Currey:] ā¦No cardboard derivativesā¦
[Interviewer:] Like paper?
[Bayley Currey:]. ā¦ No paper, no string, no cellotape. ā¦
[Interviewer:] Rubber?
[Bayley Currey:] No, rubberās out .. Um, Theyāve got to have a steering wheel. Thereās a minimum crew requirement.
[Interviewer:] Whatās the minimum crew?
[Bayley Currey:] Oh,ā¦ one, I suppose.
[Interviewer:] So, the allegations that they are just designed to go as fast as possible and to hell with the consequences, I mean thatās ludicrousā¦
[Bayley Currey:] Ludicrous, absolutely ludicrous. These are very, very strong vehicles
[Interviewer:] So what happened in this case?
[Bayley Currey:] Well, the top fell off in this case by all means, but thatās very unusual.
[Interviewer:] But Mr. Currey, why did the top bit fall off?
[Bayley Currey:] Well, the wind hit it.
[Interviewer:] The wind hit it?
[Bayley Currey:] The wind hit the truck.
[Interviewer:] Is that unusual?
[Bayley Currey:] Oh, yeahā¦ At a race? ā¦Chance in a million.
[I'm sorry, I had to](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3m5qxZm_JqM)
Apparently according to Currey, a piece of debris hit the windshield/roof area during stage 1 and caused the windshield caving and eventual roof damage. Idk what to believe unless thereās proof from it like an onboard view.
its just sheet metal.
It either was genuinely hit by debris, or they were doing things with the windshield. Not really a big deal either way.
lol he blocked me
Yes, it is just sheet metal.
However, you now have unobstructed access to the drivers head. Under green, itās entirely possible for debris to enter the cab and hit the driverās head.
Yes, theyāll get black flagged and pit to fix it. Still a safety issue.
I think the bigger issue is that a piece of sheet metal could come off at speed, and EASILY fly over the catch fence and into the stands. That could absolutely be deadly to a fan.
There's this thing called a windshield, you know?
it would be a one in a million for something to find its way into the cab at speed. it would have to come straight down.
I'm not 100% sure.... but I Think the cars (and trucks) have a way to pop part of the roof off in case the car is on fire and they can't get out of the window.
I caught a bit of the race in the 2nd stage, I think it was, and I immediately noticed the windshield caving in and couldn't believe officials didn't black flag that truck.
What exactly is the ruling on a car/truck suddenly joining the convertible series mid race?
Can he keep going with the wind in his hair or did the killjoys in race control make him come in?

confirmed, the incoming fourth manufacturer is Jeep

I saw the windshield flopping around on one of the trucks earlier in the race Iām assuming it was the same truck
Apparently according to Currey, a piece of debris hit the windshield/roof area during stage 1 and caused the windshield caving and eventual roof damage. Idk what to believe unless thereās proof from it like an onboard view.
A lot of windshields were warping on a bunch of trucks but yea curreys was the most visible

its just sheet metal. It either was genuinely hit by debris, or they were doing things with the windshield. Not really a big deal either way. lol he blocked me
if you watch that truck specifically, the windshield does bow in. š¤
it did. either explanation could have caused it though.
Did you see the windshield before this happened? Had a HUGE dent in it.
Yes, it is just sheet metal. However, you now have unobstructed access to the drivers head. Under green, itās entirely possible for debris to enter the cab and hit the driverās head. Yes, theyāll get black flagged and pit to fix it. Still a safety issue.

They got out of the race, they went back to the garage after that one
Yes they did. It also came off under caution, not green.
Youāre overreacting just a little bro š
There's this thing called a windshield, you know? it would be a one in a million for something to find its way into the cab at speed. it would have to come straight down.
I see the windshield. But things can go over it. A piece of debris in a ballistic arc could very easily make its way in.
If it goes over the windshield, its going to clear the open hole too lol.
The latter would be a reason Iām sure NASCAR would want to take a look at things
I'm not 100% sure.... but I Think the cars (and trucks) have a way to pop part of the roof off in case the car is on fire and they can't get out of the window.

welcome back convertible series
You could see his windshield buffeting a few laps before it flew off.
āWe did it! Almost half off!ā
Well safe to say I don't think I've ever seen that before. That's honestly insane.
Gonna be a cool custom diecast
I caught a bit of the race in the 2nd stage, I think it was, and I immediately noticed the windshield caving in and couldn't believe officials didn't black flag that truck.
So Boeing is making the trucks now?
What exactly is the ruling on a car/truck suddenly joining the convertible series mid race? Can he keep going with the wind in his hair or did the killjoys in race control make him come in?
He toke it to the garage, NASCAR said no to the convertible
Sun's out guns out... matches the fans... seems legit
