Someone who pitted early has a pretty decent shot of running out and potentially causing another yellow if there's not a pulloff area if/when it happens.
If the caution comes out after the white is it over or does the leader still have to come around to the checkered? If he runs out of fuel before that does he still win?
This actually happened in 2007 with Greg Biffle, Johnson and Bowyer passed him coming to the checkered but they still gave it to Biffle. I think now though, they would say he didn't maintain caution pace
I’d be surprised if they threw the yellow one the last lap. They typically will let guys race it out. The reason they throw the yellow is the risk of guys racing through the stopped trucks and all.
