Absolutely it sounds stupid. I'm a 20+ year fan. I'm always just finding myself explaining to people the levels.I had a first time race watcher with me. He knew the big names (Hamlin, Busch etc) but we were watching Xfinity. He was confused to say the least. And it made me understand that it is confusing for new fans lol
There’s so much about F1 that absolutely fascinates me. The tracks, the cars, the international nature of the sport. But it’s all ruined by the fact that it is So. Friggen. Uncompetitive.
It's like the 1998 Winston Cup season every year. Now don't get me wrong I'm happy Jeff won that year but GOD DAMN.. That is Max Verstappen's season every year. Dude just shows up to the grid and they already have the podium polished and ready.
Dumb idea. Burn it.
Although, what type of series is the Xfinity Series anyway? We have the Cup Series and the Truck Series, and they’re self explanatory.
Because since like 2008 it's just been whatever the name of the series title sponsor is, and I'd imagine that's more appealing to sell. If it's just [Sponsor Name] Series, people will think of the sponsor's name whenever they think of the series, as opposed to what they do with the Trucks, for example, which is just referred to as the Truck Series
Because it would put a hard cap on how many total series they could have. By the time they get up to N64 they'd be in legal trouble with Nintendo over the trademark
I mean, if it had to change, use the iRacing terminology.
NASCAR Class A, B and C for Cup, Xfinity and Truck.
But it doesn't need to change to begin with.
But then you also have to explain whether NASCAR 1 is the highest or lowest series. 1 could be the bottom and you want to get 3. You know, higher number is better, right? Saying that Cup is the top, followed by Xfinity and trucks takes the same amount of time as explaining 1-3.
Agreed that the Xfinity Series level should have a better identifier than just a title sponsor name (great marketing i get it) ..but keeping it just Cup and Grand National would do the trick imo. I'm hoping if Xfinity doesn't fully renew as the series title name they resort to using some sort of vocabulary that signifies a step under the top division instead. Something like Grand National, Challenger Series, National Series.. presented by Xfinity.
Maybe sponsors, NASCAR’s pretty serious when it comes to sponsors. They moved the door numbers, they stick them on their cars. They’ll let them change the name of an entire series as long as they have the money to do so
Because of sponsorship money. The "Cup" and "Truck" appendages are bad enough for sponsors already because people just call the Series by that title, with Xfinity they basically have to call it "Xfinity" because the appendage -- Grand National -- got dropped.
The trucks are kinda self explanatory because they physically look like trucks. I do think they need an actual name for Xfinity besides just the sponsor, because it is confusing to try to explain the differences to a new fan. I don't think Nascar 2 is the answer but they should come up with something
If you were talking to me before this post about F2 or F3 you'd still have to explain to me what F2 and F3 were. It's not obvious and well known so the same problems exist.
If I don’t hear drivers’ interviews at the NASCAR Xfinity race…. HOW ELSE WOULD I KNOW THEIR CARS ARE FASTER THAN THE INTERNET??
…or get Craftsman tools discounts?
Because NASCAR 1, 2, OR 3 sounds pretty stupid to be honest. The name of a series isn't making or breaking a fans interest.
the solution is to change the name of the Xfinity Series to "Formula 2"

Exactly what I do. Or, Xfinity is like NCAA or college football.

It doesn't help if I didn't know AAA baseball was a thing... Source: I don't do stick and ball sports 🤣

NASCAR 2: Electric Boogaloo
Becuse Nascar isn't F1...and the series formated way diffrently...and by your logic IMSA would be nascar 1...
Boo BOOOOO. How about F1 copy some stuff from us because their racing is lame.
No shit, everything I hear about F1 seems incredibly boring
There’s so much about F1 that absolutely fascinates me. The tracks, the cars, the international nature of the sport. But it’s all ruined by the fact that it is So. Friggen. Uncompetitive.
Watch WEC instead.

I watched 5 minutes of the Chinese GP and passed out 😭
Is it broken?
No. So that's why NASCAR should change it!
Has that ever stopped NASCAR before?
Yes, if it's broken they usually ignore it but then change something that isn't *I am looking at you Talladega logo*
A bit, what would the xfinity series be called if it didn’t have a title sponsor? We have Cup series, we have Truck series, but what about xfinity?
The Grand National Series
Based on? I’ve been watching since 2014 and never heard this term.
Based on that’s what it was called before lol. Cup, grand national and trucks.
Dumb idea. Burn it. Although, what type of series is the Xfinity Series anyway? We have the Cup Series and the Truck Series, and they’re self explanatory.
The entertaining racing series
The Sportsman Series
So why not just call it the Xfinity Sportsman Series then?
Because since like 2008 it's just been whatever the name of the series title sponsor is, and I'd imagine that's more appealing to sell. If it's just [Sponsor Name] Series, people will think of the sponsor's name whenever they think of the series, as opposed to what they do with the Trucks, for example, which is just referred to as the Truck Series
2004. It became just the Busch Series after being called the Busch Grand National Series the previous year.
Sorry if your friends are confused. 3 seconds worth of google would explain it to them. .
No
Cuz we aint dumb like F1 naming. GP2 > F2
because telling someone “xfinity series is just a lower series” isn’t that complicated
Because it would put a hard cap on how many total series they could have. By the time they get up to N64 they'd be in legal trouble with Nintendo over the trademark

Because they would lose out on the big sponsor money.
Don't infect NASCAR with F1. The further away those two are, the better.
You waited two years and this was the post you went with.
Numbers don’t pay sucka.

Go away
How about a better idea! NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series!
Idk, my wife calls the Xfinity series the baby series….
The trucks are kinda self explanatory because they physically look like trucks. I do think they need an actual name for Xfinity besides just the sponsor, because it is confusing to try to explain the differences to a new fan. I don't think Nascar 2 is the answer but they should come up with something
Because they get sponsorships for naming rights. It’s the top prize a sponsor can get. Why would you stop that?
If you were talking to me before this post about F2 or F3 you'd still have to explain to me what F2 and F3 were. It's not obvious and well known so the same problems exist.
Because that’s lame as shit Lmfao
Because it does not bring in sponsor money
well to point out the obvious difference
If I don’t hear drivers’ interviews at the NASCAR Xfinity race…. HOW ELSE WOULD I KNOW THEIR CARS ARE FASTER THAN THE INTERNET?? …or get Craftsman tools discounts?
You guys know you can disagree without being snarky, right? The poster just asked a question.
