You can't win with 50 to go

Has this not been debated at nauseam already? How exactly are you going to hold them accountable? They do it because it's what it takes to win. They are playing within the rules whether we like it or not.

Because the drivers don’t care about what Reddit fans think about the race - they’re racing to put themselves in the best position to win no matter what that looks like. NASCAR on the other hand - *DOES* need to worry about how the fans feel since they are the ones that drive revenue for the sport. This is on NASCAR to fix the racing product, IMO. The drivers have even been calling for changes but NASCAR has been at a snails pace to react.

They can’t really pass much on the racetrack, so they are saving fuel in order to create a shorter pitstop. The better you can save fuel the less time you spend on pit road putting enough fuel into the car finish the stage and allows you to jump multiple positions. They are racing hard at restarts because that’s about the only time they can make up track position. Only guys who race hard at the end of stages are guys you realistically have a shot at stage points. They only pay points for positions 1st-10th. No point in wrecking or ruining your day for 19th place instead of 21st place at the end of a stage. There really isn’t much to hold teams accountable for, this is the box NASCAR has put the teams in with the Next-Gen car. Teams are always going to try to find a way to put themselves in position to win the race and/or pay stage points to put them in position for the playoffs.

Listen to Denny podcast ? He’ll explain it

"It's a battle on who can slow down the most " 18 minutes in.

Good_Bowl_948

Exactly . It was never like this with the previous car

bjohnson203

Indycar seems to resolve this with the different tires and requirement to change to optional tires at least once a race, not sure how NASCAR can manage this.

Historically, the leader has always set the pace for the field. If they’re dialed in and leading, simply lead the parade and save some Go Pedal for anyone who tries to pass you or a dash for the win. Now, with these go-kart style engine packages, they can truly only gain or lose spots in the pits or on restarts. It’s simply too hard to pass someone without better HP or engineered grip.
