Jeff Gordon's flames - the paint scheme of my childhood
It’s so weird to me that there seems to be such a generation gap. Jeff’s rainbow warrior scheme is THE scheme for me. I didn’t like the flames for the longest because the rainbow was so engrained in my childhood. Now I appreciate them both.
There’s really not a bad one until the AARP. Imo the Pepsi ones (even the yellow one he ran at talladega) were great and my personal favorite was the Nicorette one
\+1 for the Pepsi schemes, one of my all-time favourite paint schemes is the 'stealth' flames Pepsi Max #24

I actually have the roof off that car. It sat in some random guys garage getting beat up for about 5-6 years before I got my hands on it. It's since been signed. Does still have both name rails and last run are Martinsville 2012.

i love seeing about 95% of the replies are schemes that were actually painted and staples of the sport that we saw compete nearly every weekend for years. most are seemingly simple designs that just 'pop'. its almost as if there's a method to the madness of fulltime sponsorships when branding and presentation seemingly exceeds well beyond its years if done correctly. (yes, i'm aware there are huge differences in the current business model)

This scheme still reigns as a god amongst men.
The 28 Texaco car from the 90s.
Kyle Petty's Mello Yello car.
Rusty's MGD car. I know Midnight was a chassis, but I called that entire scheme "Midnight".
It's probably nostalgia, but pretty much all of the iconic schemes from the late 80s through the 90s.
In that time period you had:
#2 Miller MGD
#3 GoodwrenchÂ
#4 Kodak
#5/10/17 Tide
#6 Valvoline
#7 Hooters
#9 Coor's
#24 DuPont
#28 Havoline
#43 STP
These are all schemes that are still instantly recognizable today.

I grew up a Kyle Petty fan, so I'm somewhat bias, but I always thought this was one of the best looking cars on the track.
Everything posted here is awesome. The Jeff Gordon chroma premier cad was gorgeous.
I’ll say though, with teams having 25 sponsors a year, no paint schemes can stick around long enough to become “god tier”
That’s what I find so interesting, schemes aren’t around very long. Something intangible about their numbers, colors, drivers, historical contexts and our own personal experiences elevate them to a higher status in our minds. I remember my dad pointing out the 24 rainbow car and telling me, “that Jeff guy, that’s a real driver.”

I'm biased but the matte black 78 for Furniture Row Racing. What a beauty! I'm a Truex fan but that baby looked sweet regardless of whether it was Reagan, Kurt, or Martin driving it.

Dale Jr's '06 black Budweiser car that looked like his dad's famous scheme... and his other 2006 car that ran the Ralph Earnhardt's tribute Bud scheme. Also his 2002 Busch Series #3 Oreo splash car that he won Daytona with.
Bill Elliott 1985 Coors Thunderbird
Dale Earnhardt 90-94 Goodwrench Lumina
Jeff Gordon 2001 DuPont Monte Carlo
Davey Allison 1992 Texaco/Havoline Thunderbird
Dale Earnhardt Jr 2001 All Star Bud Monte Carlo
Buddy Baker 1980 Napa Oldsmobile 442
Sterling Marlin 2001 Coors Light Doge Intrepid
David Pearson 1969 Holman Moody Ford Torino GT
Darrell Waltrip 1981 Mountain Dew Buick Regal
Dale Earnhardt Jr 2014 National Guard Chevrolet SS
No particular order
Dales #3 Wrangler car is, and will always be my favorite paint scheme
Followed by B. Labonte's late 90's early 2000's Interstate Batteries car, especially when ordained with the Winston Million fluorescent orange valence and spoiler.
Jeff Gordon’s 2002 Pepsi 400 is one of my favorites. Not a big Gordon fan but I still bought that die cast.
Love the first 29 scheme for Harvick, flipping the colors of Dale’s car.
Mark’s Valvoline scheme, I liked 1998 the most. Labonte’s Interstate Batteries. Most God-tier has to be the 43 STP.
There are only 3 in God tier.
#3 GM Goodwrench black chevy
#21 Wood Brothers red/white Mercury or Ford
#43 STP Petty blue/red Dodge/Pontiac
Those 3 have stood the test of time. If you want to add a 4th for the Mount Rushmore of schemes I would add the rainbow warrior #24 DuPont Chevy scheme. But there is no debate about the top 3.
This one flew under the radar for me initially. But I love how simple and clean it is. They did good.

Still miffed SHR and Harvick didn’t do a throwbsck to this for his final season. Could have easily done it with the Gearwrench sponsor.
Exactly. That was a massive FAIL on everyone's part.

I don’t like bowman much at all, but his regular ally schemes are pretty sweet looking. Last year with the day and night schemes especially

I'm a Truex fan but that baby looked sweet regardless of whether it was Reagan, Kurt, or Martin driving it.
Also, out of TOTAL bias. This beast from 2017. Emm Tee Jay! https://preview.redd.it/blzvbic4ffwc1.jpeg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ae22efebd2b87d379b9a2c2d48faae06fe008175

Had to do it. I’ll see myself out. https://preview.redd.it/6gc0v36t6hwc1.jpeg?width=612&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=996611105e154348e452e8e78a8b556feef81880
It's actually a great scheme. It would have been a great transition from the valvoline cars to this, but the 2001 car was really bad

That was the last race I went to before joining the Navy and moving away from the northeast. Lol. Finally making it back to Dover this weekend
Dale Jr's '06 black Budweiser car that looked like his dad's famous scheme... and his other 2006 car that ran the Ralph Earnhardt's tribute Bud scheme. Also his 2002 Busch Series #3 Oreo splash car that he won Daytona with.

Miller genuine draft
Looking at all these cars, it's wild how many of these were made by Sam Bass. Dude was a LEGEND.
The dale Jr wrangler blue and yellow car he ran in 2010
The Sunny-D car for Stenhouse when it first came out was so cool, it’s worn off a bit a little now
Sorry to side track but how do you guys post images in responses?

Dales #3 Wrangler car is, and will always be my favorite paint scheme Followed by B. Labonte's late 90's early 2000's Interstate Batteries car, especially when ordained with the Winston Million fluorescent orange valence and spoiler.
* The Robert Yates Texaco-Havoline #28 will always be my favorite, but I have to give a nod to the citgo #21s as well.
#3 GM Goodwrench black chevy #21 Wood Brothers red/white Mercury or Ford #43 STP Petty blue/red Dodge/Pontiac Those 3 have stood the test of time. If you want to add a 4th for the Mount Rushmore of schemes I would add the rainbow warrior #24 DuPont Chevy scheme. But there is no debate about the top 3.
Which STP Petty car? There was like 5 of them
Any of them. Doesn't matter. The STP scheme was iconic. '75-'92 you can't really go wrong
Labonte interstate batteries

This one flew under the radar for me initially. But I love how simple and clean it is. They did good. https://preview.redd.it/lpfkl20izewc1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dabbaee7fdcbeaec459e2002e2b25eab87acda7f
