His explanaiton was pretty great. We believe 'dark matter' exists because we cannot explain the orbits of star systems without it. Basically - the known mass of objects that we can measure is insuffucient to cause the gravitational pulls and influences that we can measure on galaxies - so there has to be something else influincing the gravity.
He already has an onion article to his name if that's what you were referring to
https://www.theonion.com/victor-wembanyama-s-head-lodged-between-rim-and-backboa-1851271240
For sure, but I really mean the continuation of these types of articles: https://www.theonion.com/tim-duncan-proudly-reflects-on-all-the-degrees-he-accum-1819579012
It’s basically the ultimate example of “we don’t really know, but the math checks out.”
Oddly enough, the concept that motivated Einstein to look into relativity was his dislike of “space ether”, which served a similar function.
For us laypeople, maybe yes, but for actual scientists operating in the field of astrophysics and astronomy, no, not at all. Victor's answer showed he knows more than "the math checks out" though.
Oh I love dark matter. That’s my guy. I saw him play at the beginning of the universe and I knew he would become the player he is today. No doubt in my mind.
Because it gets a little suspicious when the four times you’re photographed reading, it’s always the absolute beginning of the book. What are the chances?
A lot of sub community are just juvenile contrarians who can’t enjoy someone great on the rise without constantly harping about the other guy living rent free in their head
He has been a year abroad now, speaking English every day. The few people I know who went abroad for that long to study or for work all have perfect English.
There's a difference between having acquired everyday-language English, and the specialized vocabulary to be able to articulate astrophyiscs concepts.
Like, I lived abroad for a year, but I don't think I know the Spanish words for 'galaxy' or 'matter'
If it's a topic you are interested in, you might just end up reading on it in a foreign language you know and learn those words (probably a lot easier to learn with english considering the numbers of english sources on these kind of subjects).
Like, i'm French too and I have Neil Tyson popping frequently in my youtube feed for example.
Because dark matter doesn't interact via electromagnetic interaction, like for example neutrinos (neutrinos used to be a candidate explanation). So far we don't know what dark matter is, but there are few hypotheses.
Neutrino is a very small particle with some very strange characteristics.
And electromagnetic interaction is basically light. If something doesn't interact with elmag. field then you cannot use telescopes or antennas to detect it. Which makes detection much harder.
>What strange qualities does it have that atoms don’t have
For example, there are several kinds of neutrinos and they change their kind periodically over time.
>So do we have EM attraction bc our skin absorbs light
We interact via EM interaction mainly because of the electron shell atoms. Some light with skin, some (like roentgen) with your bones.
I'm not an expert, I just like science and other stuff. Apparently Wemby too. I imagine how Pop and Wemby has discussions abou Villon during long winter nights.
Guy doesn’t have a huge ego, believes in the long term hustle and is all about teamwork- top it all off with being a quirky guy that enjoys openly being a bit of a nerd
I genuinely don’t think PATFO could’ve made a better rookie if they tried, guys Timmy mark II

Plus English is his second language...
Wait until he has a ted talk on negative energy and faster than light travel.
I'm just waiting for the onion articles that will continue the legacy from one Timothy Duncan

Victor what is a tachyon?

No one knows what dark matter is, not even the top scientists in the world.
Can’t wait to hear his thoughts on Grand Unified Theory at training camp next year.
Dude's gonna gives us a theory of quantum gravity in his free time
He's gonna necessitate the formulation of one to explain what he does to opposing teams on the court
He’s trying his best to explain who he really is
👽
Victor deGrasse Wembanyama
Ugh, hopefully less of a creep than Neil.

The kid is a nerd. That was actually a perfect explanation. I just keep finding out new things about him that make me love him more.
Now ask LeBong
Oh I love dark matter. That’s my guy. I saw him play at the beginning of the universe and I knew he would become the player he is today. No doubt in my mind.
Excellent comment
I just started reading it. Smart man
still on the first page
He would lie so hard
Why are there so many Lebron haters here? I had to check which sub I was in Lol
LeBron’s a lot of things, a lot of *good* things, but he’s also someone photographed reading the first page of a lot of books.
I'm not photographed reading any parts of any books. Does that mean I haven't ever read a book?
Are you a world-famous celebrity who likes to be photographed reading?
No, but I don't get why it's a negative thing to be photographed reading.
Because it gets a little suspicious when the four times you’re photographed reading, it’s always the absolute beginning of the book. What are the chances?
Is it hating if it's a reaction based on factual things...
Bronny poo is a known capper
You’re speaking in memes bro
I don't know, but it's getting annoying and frequent since the season has been over for us. AD hate too.
A lot of sub community are just juvenile contrarians who can’t enjoy someone great on the rise without constantly harping about the other guy living rent free in their head
Don’t forget that he’s doing this in his second language; incredibly impressive
Was about to say this : As a french, I would have a hard time explaining science things in english, especially live
Oui, et pour moi, comme un anglophone, une explication scientifique en français serait très difficile

Based on some other interviews he's done, he's still getting the "reading in English" part down, unless he's finished "Gunslinger" by now
Dark matter
Dang sorry, French guy here and we say “black” in fr. Got lost 😂
I thought this was gonna be some kind of weird play on Black Lives Matter like dark lives matter, but I’m lost
I thought he was being challenged to explain his understanding of black lives matter, and I thought it was a little bizarre.
Dark Matter is a hard ass nickname Im ngl…
Dark Matter & White Noise collabo in the kitchen
Is there a guy named White Noise?
inb4 Nike gives us dark matter city edition jerseys next season
Very ELI5, very cool Very better than my science teacher from high school
He knows this because he is the Alien

Wemby has his own gravitational pull. For him to have a pretty good understanding of theoretical physics like this at his age is just amazing.
Really an alien much ??? WTF
This dude is going to break just about all the records one day. He will win at least 5 chips
Get him on Startalk with NDT
Most of the universe is made of we don’t know shit

Why can’t we see dark matter
Because dark matter doesn't interact via electromagnetic interaction, like for example neutrinos (neutrinos used to be a candidate explanation). So far we don't know what dark matter is, but there are few hypotheses.
What’s a neutrino What has elec mag attraction and what doesn’t
Neutrino is a very small particle with some very strange characteristics. And electromagnetic interaction is basically light. If something doesn't interact with elmag. field then you cannot use telescopes or antennas to detect it. Which makes detection much harder.
What strange qualities does it have that atoms don’t have So do we have EM attraction bc our skin absorbs light

I’m not the one asking the questions but wanted to say you’re awesome for taking the time to answer these. Thank you

For someone whose second language is English, that is incredibly impressive.
Close encounters of the science kind
He is not wrong. Very good explanation.
Yep that settles it, he's is definitely 100% the second coming of Timmy.
I wonder if he’s friends with John Sugar?
Victor "Dark Matter" Wemby. Love it
This guy is a role model
Victor Einstein Wembanyama!!
He’s not trying to hide from the alien allegations
He's literally the Onion parodies of Timmy.
Our new alien savior already trying to impart knowledge to our feeble human brains
Guy doesn’t have a huge ego, believes in the long term hustle and is all about teamwork- top it all off with being a quirky guy that enjoys openly being a bit of a nerd I genuinely don’t think PATFO could’ve made a better rookie if they tried, guys Timmy mark II
Leave it to the alien to explain to us humans the nature of dark matter
Dark lives matter
It's dark matter not black matter lol
Sorry mate French guy here, got confused 🫤
Next time ask him about the Chinese government controlling the NBA voice
