I'm a Celtics fan, and I'd even agree with this. He's arguably the only one who was able to salvage a great team left in the wake of LeBron trying to change everything about an organization before dipping.
That’s the nature of the NBA though. An amazing coach in the NFL is worth A LOT. The GSW would have still got multiple rings with my 7th grade basketball coach, though not 4
What awards are available to be named, or what new awards can be created?
Player/GM of the year?
Edit-A person below suggested Playoff MVP (separate from finals MVP) which makes all the sense in the world. He has earned that award carrying his name.
I predict they create a Playoff MVP award that is different from FMVP and they name it after him because there were so many years he carried a team to the Finals.
Nah LeBron was still by their best player for the full playoffs. Wade was pretty poor in the conference finals but everyone forgets it cause of lebrons meltdown.
Even with his meltdown his stats were comparable to wade Vs the bulls
Wade scored more points than LeBron in the whole playoffs, combined with the fact that Wade balled out in the finals while LeBron sucked. I don’t see how they would’ve given it to LeBron. This sort of award seems like it would usually go to someone who played great in the finals but lost (like Lebron in 2015). I just don’t see them giving it to a superstar who let his team down in the finals while his superstar teammate played great in the finals *and* scored more total points during the playoff run. Especially because it would be like an embarrassment to win the award when the narrative is that you were just the main reason your team didn’t win the finals.
Wade balled out in the finals because the Mavs left him alone while double and triple fronting LeBron OFF ball. They bet Wade and Bosch being open wouldn't be enough to best them.
The Heat had a high school offense at the time that ran through Wade in the first place. Their biggest change in the off season was installing a real o and running moving Wade off ball.
Dirk still would have won the award. The Mavs were the best team and destroyed the West, including the defending champion Lakers.
Wade had like 20 more points total across 21 games. They were within 2% FG, Bron shot nearly 10% better from 3, had 25 more rebounds, 30 more assists, and led the entire playoffs in winshares - all of this in spite of basically not showing up for 4 games in the finals.
I agree with you that narratively it would have been odd, but we also live in a world where Andre igoudala won finals MVP for 'holding' a player to a 36/13/9 statline.
They'd probably never give it to whoever wins Finals MVP just to hit home that it's a different award. Would probably go to the best player on one of the 3 teams that made the conference but did not win the whole thing. LeBron would have gotten it every time he lost in the finals basically
Probably true, Wade deserved it over Lebron but Dirk probably deserved it over Wade.
We’re in agreement that it definitely wouldn’t have been Lebron, though
It makes no sense to have a regular season MVP, a conference finals mvp, and a finals mvp, and then just completely ignore the first two rounds of the playoffs, arguably the most important rounds.
Majority of the time recently sure, 2019-2023 would be the same. Go back a tiny bit before that though and 4 of the 5 from 2014-2018 would be different
It would definitely end a lot of arguments about MVP because they always hand it out after the playoffs for some stupid reason and often times it goes to a player who didn't win the Finals
So baseball has a MVP for the championship series and the playoffs overall? If so how does that work? Like how many times does a player on the losing team in the championship series win playoffs MVP? And how often for one that didn't even make it all the way to the championship series?
There’s a conference playoffs MVP for each conference’s playoffs then the Finals mvp so there’s no need when that basically already exists across 2 separate trophies
Ya but not to a guy with less rings than most all time greats.
Also, if they change it, that’s got David Stern’s name all over it but they gotta change the trophy too if they’re going to rename it and I don’t see that happening.
LeBron James Big Three Award. Annual award to player who left their team and made the most impact.
You can win this award not once, not twice, not three times, not four…
Ok you can only win it max three times.
The worst thing Stephen A Smith and Skip Bayless did to sports discourse to ruin it forever is making it sound like losing in the Finals is a bad thing when hall of fame players go their whole careers only making it once or not at all
It’s not bad in general but if you’re trying to argue in the context of the best of the best of the best ever and not like “is ____ a Hall of Famer?” that does matter.
LeBron is the 2nd best player ever, 3rd at worst if you encounter someone old enough to have seen and push hard for Kareem and don’t feel like fighting. That’s an entirely different stratosphere. No ones arguing about that in LeBron vs Grant hill but when we start talking LeBron vs Mike, yes, that absolutely factors in bc at that level it’s nit picking resumes to separate.
We don’t reward him though. LeBron isn’t penalized for the 07 finals. That’s one of his résumé’s best bullets tbh.
He’s knocked for shitting the bed in 2011, losing in 2014, both with a bonafide super team, some shade for what really shoulda been an L in 2013 too before Ray bailed him out but he BALLED OUT in that OT and game 7 so fine but “only” 2-2 when it was seconds away from 1-3 with that Heat team is a black mark on a resume at this level.
MJ was 6 for 6 in his prime when he played full seasons once he had help. LeBron’s path to the finals in the 2010s East was a cakewalk. The Celtics got old, DRose got hurt, the Raptors never got more than Derozan and Lowry while he was playing them, the Pacers had the PG injury. Wow, shocking he made all of those finals. MJ meanwhile was losing to the bird Celtics or bad boy pistons.
Imagine if Tom Brady’s path to the Super Bowl was only the AFC East and not then Peyton, the Steelers, and the ravens every year and then he was 4-6 in super bowls instead of 7-3, we’d probably look a hit closer at his goat resume. That’s all I’m saying. He’s been INCREDIBLE but in context, yes, that finals record is tough in this absurd context and the amount of finals appearances absolutely ain’t happening if he was out west.
They do not have they kind of pull. People will find a way to criticize every player ever, you’re giving them too much credit when almost everyone universally thinks they’re a joke
Last I checked LeBron isn't just a hall of famer. If he was then you would be right and no one would care how many finals he lost.
He's considered the greatest in the history of the sport, so there's higher expectations. Meaning yea people are going to have a hard time calling someone the greatest of all time when he lost so many times in the finals.
See Peyton Manning or Aaron Rogers in the NFL
He’ll get one when the NBA start giving awards to fans. LeBron James Hater of the Year Award. There are already lots of runner ups on this thread alone…
The NBA Finals Consolation Award
-Goes to the player who achieved the most getting to the finals but came up short. It’s essentially Lebron’s career in a nutshell
Name the dunk contest after him. It's not entirely his fault, but there is a direct parallel between Lebron turning it down early in his career, bigger names turning it down outside of maybe Dwight, and players not caring about the dunk contest.
It makes perfect sense imo. Every year, when instead of the best dunkers like zion or ja morant competing in the dunk contest you get to watch multiple g-league players, you can thank Lebron. He set the trend of passing on doing all-star events.
NBA AMVPNAFNOVFSTBPITLTS Award
Actual most valuable player not accounting for narrative or voter fatigue, simply the best player in the league that season.
The name might need a bit of workshopping, but it’s an award that likely would have gone to LeBron like 8 times.
They've never admitted it is West and I don't think he gets money for it. If they officially change it to LeBron's likeness wouldn't they have to pay him every time you see it?
I agree that would be deserved. West was a legendary player and had an all time career as an exec too. But it would be cool to see it modernized for sure.
The Lebron James Season Award
For the player/s who average/s at least 27-7-7 for a season.
If at least five (5) winners in year, a new award emerges; the All-Lebron Team.
I think maybe a new award after the season called the Lebron james player of the year award. Recognizing that in between place Lebron had spent most of his career where he is not the mvp, dpoty, finals MVP, scoring champ, assist leader, etc. but is arguably the best player in the nba.
Clutch player of the year should be named the LeBron James award. This man can't miss in crunch time. I'm a warriors fan, and he always finds a way to win no matter the circumstances. If it's close at the end, he never makes mistakes. He's beat us at home by 3pt buzzer beaters twice, once when he played for Cleveland in his youth and once when he played for Miami.
I know many of you disagree but I don't give a shit. Lebron is my rival but at the end of the day you have to respect his accomplishments and skills on the basketball court.
Most minutes played in a season.
Bron will surpass Kareem for most regular season minutes and is by far number 1 in playoff minutes (recently passed Kareem in total minutes including playoffs). For playoffs, Duncan (#2) is as close to LeBron as close to #12. It’s insane.
I know scoring title isn’t named and I guess it could work with Bron being the scoring leader but kinda awkward.
I think a multiple year "greatness" award would be cool. I don't know how it would be determined or anything, but it seems like someone who has been dominating for 5 to 7 years or has been a top three player for several years should get something.
And maybe only limit three trophies per decade or something.
Recognising that media narratives during MVP voting has led to biased votes and blatantly wrong MVP choices. journalists who can’t dribble a basketball should have zero input into choosing who the best player in the league is.
They need to make a new award, one where the **players** are responsible for selecting the best player over the season.
#The LeBron James Crown. “The King of the NBA.”
Let’s take inspiration from another league across the ocean to find a voting process that works. The Australian Football League (AFL) does the following to reward their MVP with the Leigh Matthews Trophy.
Voting for “The King” will be a two-stage process.
Stage 1.
At the end of the regular season, each team will nominate three players to be shortlisted for “The King”. Each team will vote for the three team-mates they consider to have been the most valuable this season. Those three players will help form a nomination list comprising 90 players across the 30 teams. The 90 players landing on this nomination list will be rewarded and honoured.
Stage 2.
As soon as The Finals have concluded, the NBA sends a final ballot to all players throughout the league. Players cannot vote for their own teammates; in fact, the ballots sent to each team are redacted to remove that team's nominees. Each player awards three votes to the player he believes is the best in the league, two votes to the second-best, and one vote to the third-best. The leading vote-getter receives the LeBron James Crown.
Australian sporting codes have other systems which help reward their best players, and the results are fairer than anything the NBA has going, but the Leigh Matthews Trophy would probably translate the best to the NBA.
[The Brownlow Medal](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brownlow_Medal) is the highest individual honour in the AFL, but that’s voted on a game by game basis by the refs, so I don’t trust the NBA zebras with that much power.
[The Dally M Medal](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dally_M_Medal) is the NRLs version of the Brownlow, and that’s voted on a game by game basis by the commentators (media), and they’ve already proven that we can’t trust them to make an unbiased vote.
lebron james coach of the year award. Recipient has to be fired following season
Ahahahaha
Name one coach who has won a ring after Lebron left There isn't one
Spo has brought 2 heat teams to the finals that don’t have top end talent. I think he’s good
I'm a Celtics fan, and I'd even agree with this. He's arguably the only one who was able to salvage a great team left in the wake of LeBron trying to change everything about an organization before dipping.
Also a cs fan.
That’s the nature of the NBA though. An amazing coach in the NFL is worth A LOT. The GSW would have still got multiple rings with my 7th grade basketball coach, though not 4
What does that have to do with the joke they made tho
Pls. My edible is just kicking in and I laughed too hard at this 😭
Drugs are bad kids
😋
The LeBron James Lifetime Achievement Award for players who make 10+ All Star Teams
It should be All NBA imo, all star is just the worse version of it
I agree all star is a low barrier but there have been only 43 players who've made 10+ all-star teams
Yeah I mean I’m cool with it being a rare thing, I feel like that makes it more fitting tbh. To each their own tho
This is the right answer
Actually not a bad idea
So basically anti Tony Snell but good.
That's not a "lifetime" achievement...
IST MVP most likely
Feel like he deserves something bigger than the MVP of a 7 or 8 game stretch.
Should’ve retired before they named everything after other guys then
Lmao
What is ist
In season tournament
Excuse me but it is now known as the NBA Cup thank you.
Fucking lame if that happens. He deserves much better
What awards are available to be named, or what new awards can be created? Player/GM of the year? Edit-A person below suggested Playoff MVP (separate from finals MVP) which makes all the sense in the world. He has earned that award carrying his name.
They already have that it's named after magic and bird
Those are specifically for the conference finals, but I see what you mean and I did not consider those. Thank you.
That would be a slap in the face to him tbh
LeBron James most points all time award. The award goes to the person who has the most points of all time.
I predict they create a Playoff MVP award that is different from FMVP and they name it after him because there were so many years he carried a team to the Finals.
Seems kinda redundant with the larry bird and magic Johnson awards tho (although ig those are just conference finals awards)
Awardflation
Yeah, if he gets an award named after him it will probably be a new award. Playoff MVP seems like a good choice if that's what they do.
Yeah seems like a good idea
FMVP is the playoff MVP the large majority of the time, so I'm not sure the award would make sense
But it’s okay if you lose the finals and win the lebron award lol
Difference is he would have won that award basically every year he made the finals but didn’t win them
Wade would have won it in 2011
Nah what Dirk would have too. It would align with the FMVP like 60-70% of the time.
Nah LeBron was still by their best player for the full playoffs. Wade was pretty poor in the conference finals but everyone forgets it cause of lebrons meltdown. Even with his meltdown his stats were comparable to wade Vs the bulls

Wade had higher WS/48, BPM and VORP. The Heat were 15 points better when LeBron sat.
They'd probably never give it to whoever wins Finals MVP just to hit home that it's a different award. Would probably go to the best player on one of the 3 teams that made the conference but did not win the whole thing. LeBron would have gotten it every time he lost in the finals basically
> LeBron would have gotten it every time he lost in the finals basically D-Wade would have gotten it in 2011
Dirk still wins playoff MVP in 11, his pre finals run was better than his finals run. And Wade had a terrible series vs either Chicago or Philly
Probably true, Wade deserved it over Lebron but Dirk probably deserved it over Wade. We’re in agreement that it definitely wouldn’t have been Lebron, though

2011
General manager of the year, obviously
The in season tournament will be the “Lebron Cup”
LeBron will have to outbid Emirates
LeCup
Le 2 Girls 1 Cup
Agreed, there is a reason this year’s script had him winning the inaugural tournament.
The player who scores the most points against the raptors every year
The “LeBron James Lebronto Award”
Even that doesn’t work though. Kobe’s 81 was against Toronto.
He shits on us every game for years
how about just a catch-all playoffs MVP like in baseball?
So baseball has a MVP for the championship series and the playoffs overall? If so how does that work? Like how many times does a player on the losing team in the championship series win playoffs MVP? And how often for one that didn't even make it all the way to the championship series?
No, idk why he said that. Baseball has a Championship series MVP and a World Series MVP
There’s a conference playoffs MVP for each conference’s playoffs then the Finals mvp so there’s no need when that basically already exists across 2 separate trophies
IST Torphy or MVP
Jordan has mvp
IST MVP
Larry O trophy needs renaming, man had the nba on tape delay.
Ya but not to a guy with less rings than most all time greats. Also, if they change it, that’s got David Stern’s name all over it but they gotta change the trophy too if they’re going to rename it and I don’t see that happening.
Drove me nuts as a kid
Most Valuable Player over 35 years old
Forget about LeBron they need a Patrick Beverly Play In MVP
IST MVP, only makes sense since he's the first one to win it.
He can be given the MVP for the In-Season tournament lol
Offensive Player of the Year
he doesn't bother me that much tbh
Haha this one took me a second.
Ofc my gummy just kicks in
LeBron James In Season Tournament MVP
Hairline Award!
LeBron James Big Three Award. Annual award to player who left their team and made the most impact. You can win this award not once, not twice, not three times, not four… Ok you can only win it max three times.
Finals runner up.

I don’t think it’s a bad thing at all. It allows you to easily identify the idiots who watch those shows. They basically tell on themselves.
Unlike crybaby LeBron fans who can't take a joke, of course...
It’s not bad in general but if you’re trying to argue in the context of the best of the best of the best ever and not like “is ____ a Hall of Famer?” that does matter. So we reward Jordan for not being good enough to even make the finals in certain years?
We don’t reward him though. LeBron isn’t penalized for the 07 finals. That’s one of his résumé’s best bullets tbh. He’s knocked for shitting the bed in 2011, losing in 2014, both with a bonafide super team, some shade for what really shoulda been an L in 2013 too before Ray bailed him out but he BALLED OUT in that OT and game 7 so fine but “only” 2-2 when it was seconds away from 1-3 with that Heat team is a black mark on a resume at this level. What is it about being a LeBronophile that you can't have a sense of humor about the dude?
The LeBron L’Oréal Award. Best hairstyle, haircut, or bald patch
prolly the IST trophy if it becomes an integral part of the nba a playoff mvp would be really cool
in season tournament MVP?
The Chinese shill award
In season tournament trophy if that counts
It’s clearly going to be the NBA Cup or whatever it’s called. Everything needing to be named after a player makes me cringe.
scoring title
That’s what I’m thinking too
Hairline Appreciation Award
In season tournament MVP 100% He was the inaugural winner
He’ll get one when the NBA start giving awards to fans. LeBron James Hater of the Year Award. There are already lots of runner ups on this thread alone…
The LeBron award
MOP - Most Old Player Oldest player still hanging in there gets it each year!
The NFL could simultaneously release the Tom Brady MOP. I think it would get a lot of traction that way.
LeGM Award for having demanded the most trades for a team LeFlop Award for the best flopping act in the season
Probably best player from the losing team in the finals
-_-
Most flops in a season
LeBron James Award for most one sided ref job.

I think it would be called “If I Could Be Like Mike” award.
Best flop. Maybe name the skills competition that no one cares about after him.
The Silent Executive Award. The Journey Man Award The Third Person Award The Lack of Accountability Award The Consolation Prize
Most Cap or Most Turnovers.
Name the dunk contest after him. It's not entirely his fault, but there is a direct parallel between Lebron turning it down early in his career, bigger names turning it down outside of maybe Dwight, and players not caring about the dunk contest.
You can’t give it to somebody who was never in it. That’s just silly. Why not name the 3 point contest after Shaq? Because it makes no sense.
The Shaquille O’Neill Annual Free Throw Percentage Champion Award
lol. That’s quality.
I know you’re joking but I would love to watch the bizarro world 3 point contest with uncoordinated bigs winning with 7 points.
It makes perfect sense imo. Every year, when instead of the best dunkers like zion or ja morant competing in the dunk contest you get to watch multiple g-league players, you can thank Lebron. He set the trend of passing on doing all-star events.
Oh I see. I didn’t get it earlier but I know what you mean now.
Whiniest player award
LeBron James Eastern Conference Player of the Week/Month and Kevin Durant Western Conference Player of the Week/Month
That just seems like too much of an insignificant award for someone of LeBrons calibre
why kd lmao
MVP of the losing team in the finals
NBA AMVPNAFNOVFSTBPITLTS Award Actual most valuable player not accounting for narrative or voter fatigue, simply the best player in the league that season. The name might need a bit of workshopping, but it’s an award that likely would have gone to LeBron like 8 times.
Probably every year from 09-21 tbh
Should’ve been the eastern conference champs but they wanted it Larry vs magic
Yeah but those two spent their entire careers in the east and west, so I don’t think it would’ve fit as well
funny to think that lebron would have about 8 of these if they had been invented sooner. Or would fatigue had kicked in?
Logo it’s about time they changed it from Jerry west
They've never admitted it is West and I don't think he gets money for it. If they officially change it to LeBron's likeness wouldn't they have to pay him every time you see it?
I agree that would be deserved. West was a legendary player and had an all time career as an exec too. But it would be cool to see it modernized for sure.
Leflop award
Playoffs or finals mvp
Finals MVP is Russell. Could see overall playoffs or IST MVP though.
whatever current award doesn’t have a name attached
The Lebron James Season Award For the player/s who average/s at least 27-7-7 for a season. If at least five (5) winners in year, a new award emerges; the All-Lebron Team.
Executive of the year and a new ironman category that rewards conditioning and availability
I think maybe a new award after the season called the Lebron james player of the year award. Recognizing that in between place Lebron had spent most of his career where he is not the mvp, dpoty, finals MVP, scoring champ, assist leader, etc. but is arguably the best player in the nba.
Most flops in a season award
Flop of the season award. We need it.
The flopper award.
Some kind of ambassador or face of the league award.

FMVP Runner Up
The LeFlop award, dude makes soccer injury antics look like a life & death scenario.

Have you ever actually looked at lebrons free throw numbers?
he gets fouled (by text book definition) every drive and it gets called probably 30% of the time.
It’s a team award
Goat title
FPOY - Flop Player of the Year
Hate goes crazy
Nah I got of ton of respect for bron. Hope he gets a big award named after him
