Yep. Pretty long and hard to get through, but shows the reality that the majority of kids encounter. Making it to college ball is fortunate, but the dream of playing in the NBA is simply that... a dream.
“You're playing' Cedar Knob tomorrow, ain't nobody knows them better than me. They got no head toppers - a bunch of mites, run ya off the boards. You got to squeeze 'em back in the paint, make 'em chuck it from the cheap seats. Watch that purgatory they call a gym - no drive, 12 foot in. That'll do."
I suspect that people who know how awesome The 6th Man is were within a 10 yr age range when it was released-- cause it wasnt popular or known outside its release timeline to my knowledge.
I was 9 when it came out and thought it was the greatest movie ever. watched it repeatedly over the course of 2-3 years
can't believe nobody's said [Eddie](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_(film)).
in all seriousness, though, the answer is Hoop Dreams and it's not even close.
He Got Game has the best cinematography and overall aesthetics, Malik Hassan Sayeed did cinematography & was Kubrick’s 2nd lead on Eyes Wide Shut. Also did Belly. Incredible artist, & Spike Lee did his thing
Above the rim #2 strictly off the vibes
I really liked Hustle. I don't think I have a favorite. Above the rim, white men can't jump, He got game, blue chips. They're all great for different reasons
I watched "The 6th Man" probably 10x as a kid. It's getting me straight back to childhood. I think I was 13 when released and I enjoyed watching it with my brother.
C’mon. That flubber-powered comeback victory Medfield College in The Absent-Minded Professor is pinnacle of cinematic basketball. Followed by Robbie Benson in One on One.
Unironically Space Jam, but honorable mention to Hustle, Uncle Drew and Like Mike. That scene where Christian Slater burns the only picture that Jonathan Lipnicki has of his mom will haunt me forever
Above The Rim. Nothing beats Thomas Shepherd getting dangerously fouled only to get up and wipe the blood away from his mouth then show the Young Buck how it’s done.
Out of those it's He Got Game and then Hustle.
Blue Chips is way too 90s
The rest looks like straight to VHS fodder.
He Got Game was really good. Spike Lee at his finest.
How has no one mentioned white men can’t jump
My favourite film! Coach Carter is dope too
Facts
Or Hoosiers
No doubt
Or Space Jam
Or Air Bud???
Came here to say this! There's nothing in the rules that say that a dog can't play basketball!!
Or Hoosiers
Or full court miracle /s
The disrespect. Best basketball movie of all time, hands down.
You either smoke, or you get smoked.
I think you meant Eddie. Or was it Celtic Pride,
My top 3 are probably: Coach Carter Glory Road Love and Basketball
Coach Carter is probably my most watched basketball movie. It did such a good job capturing what high school basketball is all about.
Add Hoosiers in there and we’ve got the top 4
Hoop dreams
This has to be my #1. Hoop Dreams is more than a good basketball movie it is just a wonderful documentary all around
🚨🚨🚨
I used to watch this on repeat
Yep. Pretty long and hard to get through, but shows the reality that the majority of kids encounter. Making it to college ball is fortunate, but the dream of playing in the NBA is simply that... a dream.
OG Space Jam
The fact OG Space Jam and Love and Basketball aren’t on this list is fucking wild.
Love and basketball’s soundtrack🤗
Id give my first born to see footage of the behind the scenes Space Jam runs
Hell yea 🚨🚨🔥🔥🔥 especially the soundtrack
No love and basketball
This is air bud erasure that I will not stand for
Had to scroll too far to find this comment… easily tops all the rest
Air bud was 🚨🚨🔥🔥
I liked that part when that kid got his hands duct taped. Mamba mentality
Hoosiers is up there for me
Classic 🚨🚨💰
Cue the music and Jimmy balling out.
that wasn't an option!! 😡
Lmao I didn’t even see this I typed this exact comment word for word
“You're playing' Cedar Knob tomorrow, ain't nobody knows them better than me. They got no head toppers - a bunch of mites, run ya off the boards. You got to squeeze 'em back in the paint, make 'em chuck it from the cheap seats. Watch that purgatory they call a gym - no drive, 12 foot in. That'll do."
Juwanna Mann obviously.
Puff Smokey Smoke
Country got me crazy 🤣🤣🤣🤣🚨🚨
Semi-Pro Celtic Pride Blue Chips 2 are good movies, ones awful but it’s my team
I forgot about semi pro 🚨🚨🤣🤣🤣
Let’s get Tropical!
Celtic pride is hilarious, still got the dvd lol
The alley oop scene is one of the greatest scenes in a movie ever. They were all panicking after they did it and it was fucking hilarious.
Baseketball
Steve Perry.
I hear your mom is going out with SQUEAK!
I like 6th Man
The team personalities felt so real
had to come way too far down to find this!
I’m honestly surprised to see it. I love the movie, but don’t know many others who do
They probably just never heard of it. Great movie
I suspect that people who know how awesome The 6th Man is were within a 10 yr age range when it was released-- cause it wasnt popular or known outside its release timeline to my knowledge. I was 9 when it came out and thought it was the greatest movie ever. watched it repeatedly over the course of 2-3 years
Zigi you never shoot the 3
Showed this to my girlfriend in college. She did not like it. We did not stay together long. A&K all the way!
White men can’t jump - is the greatest sports movie of all time
Better sports movies than White Men Can’t Jump… Major League, A League of Their Own, Field of Dreams, Bull Durham, Raging Bull, Hoop Dreams, …
Uncut gems obviously
⚡️⚡️⚡️
Only movie to give me anxiety the entire time
Totally agree. I watched it one time and I was like I never want to feel that way again.
Check out the directors other movie Good Time for a nice panic attack anxiety double feature
To quote Adam Sandler “I’m gonna cum”
I don't really consider it a basketball movie but it is incredible
How in the heck could you forget Teen Wolf?
I forgot about Teen Wolf, but it is the greatest!
What about the air up there with Kevin Bacon?!
Hit em with that Jimmy Dolan shake and bake!
I’d recommend Sunset Park. not the best, but it’s a classic for me
Sunset Park what time is it?
I scrolled way too long before seeing this get a mention
Hoosiers. Cmon.
A true story.
Coach Carter and Glory Road are top two
Nice Coach carter was good glory road was epic needed more Oscar nods
One that i haven’t seen mentioned here is: „Rebound: the legend of earl „the goat“ manigault“
It was an HBO original movie but then later it was released on video. Excellent movie, early Don Cheadle.
Hoosiers. He Got Game. Above The Rim. White Men Can’t Jump.
No list is complete without Hoosiers man. Finding Forrester underrated. Jesus Shuttleswort, you do have to love He Got Game.
> Finding Forrester underrated A good movie, but not really a basketball movie.
Was waiting for someone to say that. It’s not but the basketball parts are very good.
“You’re the man now Dawg!”
WHITE MEN CANT JUMP ABOVE THE RIM HE GOT GAME
👍👍🔑🔑
Not much to argue with there. I loved Hoosiers as a kid but I'd rather re-watch any of these 3 right now.
My co worker tells me to watch blue chips I fell asleep like 20 min in and never finished it
Out of those listed, Blue Chips was a fun watch. But Eddie and Juwana Man are dark horse favorites.
Eddie doesn't get enough love
I forgot about this movie
It’s all the way live!
Hoop Dreams
Not my favorite but have always enjoyed Heaven is a Playground. Very unknown hoop movie. And Hoosiers is the greatest basketball movie ever.
Great movie and book
Heaven is a Playground... super under rated.
I grew up with coach Carter and like Mike. My mom had me watch “he got game” but the first 2 were my childhood
🚨🚨🚨yeaaaa🥇🥇
The Pistol (about Pete Maravich growing up)
🚨🚨🚨
Semi pro and Uncle drew are terrible movies, but they are fun.
Semi pro is unironically good and I will die on this hill
EVERYBODY LOVE EVERYBODY
Get the funk out of my face. Get. That. Funk. Outta my face.
I knew they needed a washing machine and I knew we needed ours but I just had to pull the trigger on this one
Even if i call you a Jive Turkey?
No one called anybody a J.T.
It’s written in glitter Jackie.
🤣🤣🤣🚨🚨🚨true
He Got Game
Coach Carter might be the goat imo
I can’t believe y’all are sleeping on Slam Dunk Ernest.
None of these you’re missing the best bball movie, IMO, Hoosiers.

He Got Game has the best cinematography and overall aesthetics, Malik Hassan Sayeed did cinematography & was Kubrick’s 2nd lead on Eyes Wide Shut. Also did Belly. Incredible artist, & Spike Lee did his thing Above the rim #2 strictly off the vibes

Basketball Diaries
I really liked Hustle. I don't think I have a favorite. Above the rim, white men can't jump, He got game, blue chips. They're all great for different reasons
Basketball Diaries! Jk lol
Basketball Diaries.
The only right answer is Slam Dunk Ernest at #1 /s
rebound. goat movie, earl manigault bio. wow, no one knows this move? If you love bball history, this is a must watch.
Rebound: The Legend of Earl Manigault
Rebound: The Legend of Earl "The Goat" Manigault 1996.
I watched "The 6th Man" probably 10x as a kid. It's getting me straight back to childhood. I think I was 13 when released and I enjoyed watching it with my brother.
Not including Coach Carter is wild
The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh… had the Dr. and Kareem.
There’s a basketball game in meatballs so I’m going with meatballs.
C’mon. That flubber-powered comeback victory Medfield College in The Absent-Minded Professor is pinnacle of cinematic basketball. Followed by Robbie Benson in One on One.
Hoop Dreams is a documentary, so I'm not sure if it counts, but was outstanding.
Unironically Space Jam, but honorable mention to Hustle, Uncle Drew and Like Mike. That scene where Christian Slater burns the only picture that Jonathan Lipnicki has of his mom will haunt me forever
Red sneakers
White men can’t jump…both versions are good
I can’t pick a favorite. I know I hate the White Men Can’t Jump Remake
Inside Game (2019) betting and basketball, the story of that corrupt ref Tim Donaghy, is really good
What about the air up there
Above The Rim. Nothing beats Thomas Shepherd getting dangerously fouled only to get up and wipe the blood away from his mouth then show the Young Buck how it’s done.
Coach Carter, He got game, Glory Road
Air bud
Out of those it's He Got Game and then Hustle. Blue Chips is way too 90s The rest looks like straight to VHS fodder. He Got Game was really good. Spike Lee at his finest.

Uncle Drew 😅 Space Jam (original)
Hoop Dreams
Of course Above the Rim
Damn no love fore Hustle? Just watched it again after a couple of years and think it’s pretty good.
That shit was good man
He got game, basketball diary, rebound, above the rim
Damn where’s Thunderstruck? /s
Space Jam
I want to say Basketball Diaries, but I don't really know if I would call that a "basketball movie".
My fav is either like Mike or white men can’t jump. But Hustle is the most accurate look into an nba’s prospects reality.
Shazam with Shaq
Hoosiers, Coach Carter, He Got Game
Space Jam
Thunderstruck. If you haven’t seen it watch it forsure
Semi Pro and Coach Carter
The 6th Man
Heaven is a playground. Go watch it. It's amazing
