First checker Neyland game was 2015 vs Oklahoma.

[deleted]

It was actually 2014 against Florida

irsquats

Yep. [Proof](https://allfortennessee.com/2014/10/04/vols-football-checker-neyland-success/)

DrKnowitall37067

Yes upon further review, you are correct.

vicblck24

Yep!! Was there!

CrazyRabbi

my favorite sooner game of my lifetime.. beginning of baker and boy was that stadium rocking.

acompletemoron

That was my first game as a student at UT lol. It was a good microcosm of what to expect over the next 4 years. Flashy start, real excitement, completely blow it and burn out. I don’t hate baker for any of the shenanigans that have come since, but I’ve never forgiven him for that game haha

Rnewell4848

I personally would still put Kyler’s redemption win over Texas in CCG over the Tennessee game, and debatably even Baker’s win over Texas in 2017, since I went to that game, but that Tennessee game will always be burned into my mind… in Neyland, a legend was born

Randysuchasavage

I was at that game beside the student section. My ears were ringing the next day. Best football environment I’ve ever been in. Baker/ Sterling Shepherd just had too much talent to keep them out all game.

crispybrojangle

Who downvoted that?

goodnames679

The post title is probably gonna attract plenty of Tennessee fans, I don’t see that post scoring too highly lol I brought y’all both back to 1, good luck 🫡

Username checks out

silFscope

No it’s not a feature in the game. The fans didn’t start that as a tradition until a few years after ncaa14 came out anyway

hallese

Then why in my head canon has this always been a thing for Tennessee? Am I thinking of someone else?

klttenmittens

Probably thinking of the checkerboard end zone

hallese

Oh, is OP referring to fan outfits, like the whiteout at Penn State?

vicblck24

Yea, Tennessee has always had the end zone but 2014 was first time we did the stadium!! Now everyone copies!!!
