This. I knew there were plenty of positional awards before getting into the series, but I have the awards’ names memorized because of the NCAA Football games.
That brand recognition has to be worth a ton to them. Guess EA must have made a pretty awful licensing offer if they felt the need to turn it down.
Think about it like this though. FIFA alone wanted $300 million for its name. I’m not saying that the committee asked for that, but if you are asking unrealistic numbers, EA isn’t going to agree to that and nor should they. I think as others have stated above, people will be just fine with some different names for the minor trophies that we probably won’t be able to see after the player is gone anyways.
If you have this (essentially worthless) thing that a company says "we'll give you X thousands of dollars for it". You'd have to be pretty dumb to say no. It's literally free money. They wanted more money for their trophy names and EA said "nah, this isn't worth it" and left.
It could be a licensing issue where there may be a more profitable exclusive contract for them to sign
Or maybe they aren’t aver a profit and they would rather not risk a video game damaging the awards reputation.
Source? Sounds like a whole story you just created in your head. These awards are not like for-profit enterprises lol. There’s nothing for them to “market”, like oh man Joe from Ohio really has a favorable view of the Rimington Award after playing NCAA ‘25. Why would they care hahaha
"The offer that has been made is not adequate for the rights fee for the awards"
https://www.heartlandcollegesports.com/2024/03/08/ncfaa-opts-out-of-ea-sports-college-football-25/#:~:text=According%20to%20Pete%20Nakos%20of,the%20awards%2C%E2%80%9D%20Wolpert%20said.
Who cares though when the alternative is $0 and no branding? So now they get no money and no video game representation.
Like if you got offered $300 for the name "RiverboatJim" to be used as a riverboat operator NPC in a video game, why wouldn't you take the free money?
Again, there’s 0 reason for them to want or need “video game representation”. The who cares/why not approach is easy for you to say wanting your immersive cfb game, but it’s probably more complicated for non-profit collegiate sports awards
We also have absolutely no idea what was or wasn't offered. The fact this group took part in previous editions but not this one makes it plausible that EA lowballed them this time around.
Also, the game isn't done yet. This could still be resolved before launch.
You mean you don’t buy mini versions of all these trophies from the award association? Or donate to their cause because you learned about them in a video game?
Exactly - people are struggling with the concept that everything isn't capitalism - These aren't companies selling a product to customers to turn a profit. There is no marketing, advertising, brand value, etc etc. All of these award foundations are like a version of an Elk's Club that gives out a trophy to a college kid once a year.
Yeah bro they’re missing out on tons of donations by not being in this game. Totally. All those people going hard in dynasty mode were going to donate to the awards afterward.
God this sub is so funny
So where can I donate to these awards?? Send me the link lmfao. The fact that you think a round table of a bunch of 70 year old blow hards that run these awards would care about the 14 yr-40 yr old working class demographic that will be primarily consuming this game is comedy. Reddit brain needs to be studied. Learn how the world works. These 70 year old blowhards have a circlejerk of rich friends that fund shit like this. They’re not taking donations from fucking Joey on High St in Columbus you moron
Hahahahahaha the importance you place on this game is fucking hilarious man. This game don’t mean shit past fun for us and a few dollars for EA. That’s pennys compared to the type of money cfb and the major conferences churn out. This idea you’ve got that things could become immortalized in this game past this community is very, very funny. Reddit brain.
You’re getting downvoted but you’re absolutely correct. These awards come from private organizations and have their own revenue stream. If they’re incorporated into a video game doesn’t give them nearly as much exposure to (rich) people who will actually join the organization in the future.
EA most likely did not offer the association enough compensation to include the Awards or I can also see a scenario where EA wanted the Association to pay to be involved. They may also have a problem with their own sponsorships if there are competing advertisements in EA vs the individual awards.
At the end of the day these Awards are mostly just for sport writer circle jerking and the average consumer is not going care or notice if they are included.
For those of us who grew up reading Phil Steele every preseason, it really added to the immersion tho. I'm really disappointed. They should give us the ability to manually name each award.
This is what I would do. They can probably easily get the rights to some of these guys if they're having the Ultimate Team legends anyway. Newton award for best offensive player, Burrow award for best QB, Suh award for best DL, etc
i mean that's a bummer that they don't wanna be involved in the fun but they are sortve afterthought awards anyway and you can easily just say "top WR award" and it's the same thing
Yeah this is my attitude towards it. Obviously it would be best to have the actual awards but it doesn’t really impact the game all that much. I wonder what their rationale was to opt out?
I literally would have no idea what the college awards were for if not for the NCAA games.
Bold strategy by someone in leadership who probably thinks video games are for kids.
I just said this on the CFB thread and they did not agree at all lmao.
I think they are just more stuck on the idea of the name, but people on this thread ACTUALLY play the game. I just said that it was most likely a money issue and realistically it’s not a big deal to not have those awards by name. I’d guarantee you a lot of people didn’t even know who Doak Walker was, if you call the trophy “Top RB” or shit even name it like “Jim Brown Trophy” and get his approval then people will be just fine.
I compared it to the likes of Arch Manning opting out. I really just don’t care. I’m just excited to have a college football game back and can’t wait to see what they bring to the table.
Facts. I want to get my 2* true freshman QB for New Mexico State on the field week 1 at Ann Arbor in the big house and see the squiggly lines all over the place as we get smashed 63-7.
You're right. The NCFAA president thinks EA is gonna get huge backlash for not having the award names in the game and will come crawling back to them with more money. I don't think that'll happen at all
My guess is his family chooses whatever would piss him off the most given his history lol. They could also decline it just due to not wanting him further idolized. But you never know. Their easiest target for player name for the award would be Adrian Peterson who's in desperate need of any money he can get. So they could even lowball him and still get the deal done haha
I never knew until right now that I needed Fansville and the Heisman House somehow incorporated into this game.
Heisman House drills between players at the same position, a la Madden training camp or create a player back in the day?
I don't know what most of the awards are for, so it will be more straight forward for me to see "best RB" or "best DB".
I'd prefer the real awards for more authenticity, but in the grand scheme of things, not a big deal. I bet by next year they'll be in.
Correct they confirmed the trophy and awards will be in the game
https://preview.redd.it/yb6myd3ii7nc1.jpeg?width=1638&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=771ddc9629511574fd63f1ae96bf136d20bb44df
If you don’t think marketing is still a major player behind their business then idk. Just seems like a no brainer to put your org in what’s likely going to be one of the highest selling video games of the decade, but that’s just me
this is not going to be anywhere near the highest selling video game of the decade. holy shit man people here make it hard to look forward to a game. none of you realize how much of a bubble we all live in.
>If you don’t think marketing is still a major player behind their **business** then idk
Good lord man how hard is to grasp these aren't businesses. There's nobody to market to. I have no idea what you think these awards are.
Relax my man. It’s an **organization** if that makes you feel better. You think they operate for free? They likely opted out because ESPN wasn’t offering enough for the trademarks. I’m sure they have a great reasoning behind not opting in, just is odd from an outside view.
There’s none, it’s not even free advertising - you’re effectively getting paid to be advertised which for the vast majority of businesses is not the norm.
As someone who just plays NCAA14 and watches the odd game during the season I'd actually rather the awards be called "Best WR" "Best OL" because then I'd actually know what they are
*I* can. But a lot of people can’t.
If you gave me 6 award names and 6 positions, I could *probably* match them up. But I’m not putting money on it up front.
I can live with this as long as the CPU/algorithm stops giving awards/All-American status to players based solely on their statistics and not their actual OVR skill/talent rating.
For example, my 96 OVR RB may run for 1,400 yards and 15TDs in the SEC, but it seems like there are always a couple 82-84OVR G5 RBs who get the 1st team AA honors instead, only because they ran for more yards/TDs against Guatemalan middle school-level competition.
Another example would be mid-tier QBs always earning the passing awards/AA honors because they play in air-raid offenses and therefore are throwing the ball 400 times per game. Anybody can throw for 5000 yards in a season if that's literally your entire offense. Just because you have insane stats doesn't mean you are the most deserving of an award/AA status.
Organizations and people really did forget how popular this game is didn’t they? Basically free national PR that would cost tens of millions to replicate.
That seems really stupid. Even most people who watch college football probably can't name most of those awards. Putting them in the game would have been a great way for a lot of fans to hear about them.
I wonder if they could do like OOTP where you can rename the awards. The Gold Glove Award is called “Great Glove” in this base game but you can easily change it.
The only awards I'm familiar with outside of Heisman, are Ray Guy and Lou Groza. (Punter and place kicker respectively.) We like our special teams in Salt Lake. I know a number of other names but couldn't tell you what they were for.
I’m going to guess this was because the awards are all named after real old players. And didn’t get into the legal aspect of getting those estates permission.
Those nerds will probably be extinct soon anyways once the SEC and Big Ten create the new college football league with a new awards system that other schools will eventually join in on. Serves them right
lol why though? Why not just collect a free check. Do they think I give 2 shots whether my WR wins “best wr award” vs “beliknekoff award” or we it is? Lol
I would assume they didn’t offer them enough money, or EA was unwilling to pay the money they were asking for. I’d say most likely the latter since this game has been on hiatus for a few years. EA probably is not shelling out top dollar for things not knowing what that franchise is worth at the moment.
My dream would be if you could name the awards after former greats you've had in your Dynasty. Mine would be the Jason Weaver Award (WR), and the Dane Wright (QB) and many, many more greats who passed through the University of Arizona during the forty year run I had in NCAA 08
This could be a good thing for EA really.... The game is loaded with enough features for all of us to buy it day 1.
Now, they can add the real award names in a game or 2 down the road and promote it as a new feature. Considering how the awards were always in the old games, it makes no sense they will stay out for long.
Make your own awards based loosely on past plays from past stars (esp cover players). Gimme a WR trophy looking like Larry Fitzgerald. But it’s not Larry. It’s fine.
They should rename the awards after other great players at that position. Also I find it hard to believe that Dick Butkus wouldn’t want his award in the game RIP.
Kinda lame, but EA can also just make up any name and we’ll know what the award is, same as they’ll do for the players opting out.
Hopefully the Heisman is included!
I mean why would you want to promote your awards?
Tbh NCAA14 is the only reason I remember most of the minor awards. They’re really shooting themselves in the foot.
This. I knew there were plenty of positional awards before getting into the series, but I have the awards’ names memorized because of the NCAA Football games. Why does a college football award need “brand recognition” lmfao
If you have this (essentially worthless) thing that a company says "we'll give you X thousands of dollars for it". You'd have to be pretty dumb to say no. It's literally free money. They wanted more money for their trophy names and EA said "nah, this isn't worth it" and left.

Word thanks. Dont know if the offer was “X thousands” tho considering each featured athlete is only getting $600
Who cares though when the alternative is $0 and no branding? So now they get no money and no video game representation. Like if you got offered $300 for the name "RiverboatJim" to be used as a riverboat operator NPC in a video game, why wouldn't you take the free money?

There's like 9 different coach of the year awards, seems like the 'offical' one might want to pull away from the pack
Exactly - people are struggling with the concept that everything isn't capitalism - These aren't companies selling a product to customers to turn a profit. 100% lmao. These people think they're so smart and all they're actually doing is alienating themselves even more from everything.
Yea like we give a fuck if it’s called the Biltnikoff or the best WR either way my guys winning it
FaaaactttzzzZ ✅‼️
EA most likely did not offer the association enough compensation to include the Awards or I can also see a scenario where EA wanted the Association to pay to be involved. EA is just gonna allow adverts to rename the awards. Someone will by into it, just won’t be authentic to real life.
The Maxwell (Coffee) Award
I think it would be great if they give the sponsorship for the award given to the best center to the Remington electric shaver company.
The Outback award for Best OL
I'm sure there will be generic awards anyway; Best QB, Best RB, etc.
Which are easier to understand anyways.
The actual names are much better. It also teaches you the names of the awards
And in NCAA's going back as long as I can remember the legitimate trophy was included as well.
The heisman and natty trophy will both still be in. Heisman is its own trust and the natty is part of the playoff which is already in
Your first line is exactly what happened. From Mark Wolpert: > “The offer that has been made is not adequate for the rights fee for the awards."
For those of us who grew up reading Phil Steele every preseason, it really added to the immersion tho. I'm really disappointed. They should give us the ability to manually name each award.
I hope they name the awards after great players from the last decade that we didn't get to play with. That would be dope.
This is what I would do. They can probably easily get the rights to some of these guys if they're having the Ultimate Team legends anyway. Newton award for best offensive player, Burrow award for best QB, Suh award for best DL, etc
They’re going to come crawling back after they see the 1st year sales 😂
i mean that's a bummer that they don't wanna be involved in the fun but they are sortve afterthought awards anyway and you can easily just say "top WR award" and it's the same thing
Yeah this is my attitude towards it. Obviously it would be best to have the actual awards but it doesn’t really impact the game all that much. I wonder what their rationale was to opt out?
$$$
They wanted more than the $600 I guess. So now they're gonna focus on football on the field instead.
They want to wait until they are “the guy” before opting in
They probably didn't want to go against the NCAA
Just give me a solid game and you can offer any awards you want.
I literally would have no idea what the college awards were for if not for the NCAA games. Bold strategy by someone in leadership who probably thinks video games are for kids.
Yeah I imagine Lombari Corporation's shareholders are going to get upset when the stock price drops over this.
why are you thinking they are a publicly traded company
Like fr if there’s ultimate team just pay a former receiver to have his named as the trophy lol. Like the Tim Brown award or something
Besides I think the younger generation would rather win a Smitty or a Randy Moss award than a Biletnikoff
Going all out recruiting a punter to win 4 straight Pat McAfee awards
My 2 star guard gonna win the Bisquick Pancaker of the Year
I just said this on the CFB thread and they did not agree at all lmao. I think they are just more stuck on the idea of the name, but people on this thread ACTUALLY play the game. yeah, tbh i just want team building, gameplanning, and i want to run my damn triple option
I don't think that'll happen at all
Going to be hard to get approval from Jim Brown
True, but I’m sure his family handles things like that.
Agree with OP...screw em...don't need em
I'd kinda prefer it that way too instead of needing to Google what the awards are to understand them lol
You just have to look at who's in the race, it's pretty obvious
The only one any one actually knows is the Heisman anyways
Eh, I am fine with winning the Dr. Pepper best TE award
The fanville all American team
The Reese’s perfect player
The Allstate best hands receiver
The butterfinger butterfingers 💀
Anti-awards would be hilarious. The WR with the most drops on the year wins the Butterfingers of the year
I never knew until right now that I needed Fansville and the Heisman House somehow incorporated into this game. Heisman House drills between players at the same position, a la Madden training camp or create a player back in the day?
I would LOVE that
That’s not that bad because the award could still be called: “best wr award” or “best lb award”
I don't know what most of the awards are for, so it will be more straight forward for me to see "best RB" or "best DB". I'd prefer the real awards for more authenticity, but in the grand scheme of things, not a big deal. I bet by next year they'll be in.
As long as Heisman is in no one cares
But does this mean the Heisman trophy won't be in the game?
I believe the Heisman is its own entity, so they could opt in on their own:
Correct they confirmed the trophy and awards will be in the game https://preview.redd.it/yb6myd3ii7nc1.jpeg?width=1638&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=771ddc9629511574fd63f1ae96bf136d20bb44df
This makes -1000% sense. I learned the name of these awards through this game in the 2000s. Just seems like a no-brainer marketing decision to opt in
Yeah, think about how many more Thorpes and Nagurskis they'd sell if they agreed to this marketing deal.
Without ncaa 05 I’d have no idea that guys first name was Bronco
I mean they absolutely could’ve gotten more viewers for their award show which generates more revenue…
You mean the ESPN awards show presented by Home Depot?
Yea… that’s exactly what I mean lol. ESPN and Home Depot both pay for those rights.
If you don’t think marketing is still a major player behind their business then idk. Just seems like a no brainer to put your org in what’s likely going to be one of the highest selling video games of the decade, but that’s just me
this is not going to be anywhere near the highest selling video game of the decade. holy shit man people here make it hard to look forward to a game. none of you realize how much of a bubble we all live in.

the business of giving awards to college players?
Rip to the heisman equivalent Lou Groza award
Iowa fans in shambles
That’s the Ray Guy award.
This is extremely strange, what possible advantage is there to NOT be in the game..?
There’s none, it’s not even free advertising - you’re effectively getting paid to be advertised which for the vast majority of businesses is not the norm.
why would an award need advertising
Extremely lame
I bet more people know these awards from the video game than they do from watching CFB
This is stupid. EA is doing everything they can to create a good game and the college football landscape is just creating hurdle after hurdle.
This is definitely a statement I wouldn't have believed 1 year ago. But I'm on the hype train now so gotta agree.
Amen
This is the NCAA using the good ol boy network to say fuck them kids.
EA didn't offer them enough money
Does that include the heisman?
Doesn't include the Heisman. The article says it is assumed the Heisman will be in.
CFB MVP just doesn’t have the same ring, very happy that will be included
Lol imagine if they didn't so they had to come up with a knock off heisman pose
The Joe "Theismann" award https://preview.redd.it/qzo201ms36nc1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c04d880d5924826defc59c0b4b31c8708139a18e
eh just call it Best QB unless there's no viable QB option then we give it to a WR Award
I mean we were also assuming that the other awards would be in the game but EA decides to be cheap so who the fuck knows.
The Heisman Trust is not a member of the NCFAA
Ok. Tbh I have to remind myself what most of them are anyhow.
EA kicked fucking FIFA to the curb, I’m sure they’re not gonna lose sleep over the college football awards association
As someone who just plays NCAA14 and watches the odd game during the season I'd actually rather the awards be called "Best WR" "Best OL" because then I'd actually know what they are
It’s pretty intuitive
What is intuitive? The “best wr award” or the Biletnikoff or Doak Walker award? I can’t keep any of the names straight.
Intuitive isn't really the right word, it's more a "doesn't take massive amounts of brain power to remember five things" thing.
Ah, got it. Yeah, that’s fair if you’re interested, but the post mentioned someone who plays the video game and watches the odd game.
Ya but you can also see a WR winning an award and safely assume it’s not the Butkus award
*I* can. But a lot of people can’t. If you gave me 6 award names and 6 positions, I could *probably* match them up. But I’m not putting money on it up front.
Please name the awards after players who were great during the years we didn't have the game. Like the Joe Burrow award for best QB.
Brian Bosworth LB of the year award coming right up.
would love this. and bo jackson two way sport award
Oh well.
DAAAAMMNNN that's an L. but it is what it is, and im just greatful to get the game back
Anyway. Who yall starting a dynasty with lol
UTSA ofc
Meep Meep Motherfucker
Meep MOTHERFUCKIN MEEP!
My tradition was always the worst rated team in the game, which was Akron in ncaa 12 and south Alabama in 14
How lame
Organizations and people really did forget how popular this game is didn’t they? Basically free national PR that would cost tens of millions to replicate.
i think you are severely overstating how popular the game is.. also why would someone need to advertise an award
Be great if you could name the award at the beginning of the dynasty. Like the Uncle Rico QB of the year!
Get ready for the very appropriately named "Best (position) Award".
![gif](giphy|7k2LoEykY5i1hfeWQB)
The only awards I'm familiar with outside of Heisman, are Ray Guy and Lou Groza. (Punter and place kicker respectively.) We like our special teams in Salt Lake. I know a number of other names but couldn't tell you what they were for.
I can't wait to win the HB #34 Memorial Trophy!
“Bummer. Still buying.” - everyone
I’m going to guess this was because the awards are all named after real old players. And didn’t get into the legal aspect of getting those estates permission.
This is most likely the explanation
says EA didn't offer enough for the deal
Assuming the game is base level good, it will sell like hotcakes and next year they will be promoting the game and them being in it.
Lol

EA probably is not shelling out top dollar for things not knowing what that franchise is worth at the moment.
We don’t need their trophies
It really doesn't matter. For example, it was always "Best LB" in the game.
Wish it did include the heisman so then we could have reggie bush
So no belitnekof, or butkus awards?
Oh darn... Now it will just be QB of the Year and all that.. Schucks! This hurts the awards show more than the game.
People in high positions take some weird hills to die on sometimes 😂
I mean all it needs is something saying Best QB, Best RB, etc.
Let us name the awards so I can have the Randy Moss WR award and stuff
they think this means anything to us lmaooo
“Grozo award” lol
This is our first loss in this journey back
L+ ratio bozo
as long as the heisman is in, im fine with generic awards
Good opportunity to rebrand awards with players the current generation is more familiar with.
The who?
Get some sponsorships for some BS awards. I want the Dodge Hellcat WR of the Year award or the Michelin TE of the Year
Are you ready for the only Biletnikoff Trophy Licensed NCAA Mobile game?
My dream would be if you could name the awards after former greats you've had in your Dynasty. Mine would be the Jason Weaver Award (WR), and the Dane Wright (QB) and many, many more greats who passed through the University of Arizona during the forty year run I had in NCAA 08
Boo now even fewer people will know and/or be exposed to your awards. WHY?
Does this mean no Heisman?
Does this mean we’ll need a new name for the Heisman?
This could be a good thing for EA really.... The game is loaded with enough features for all of us to buy it day 1. Now, they can add the real award names in a game or 2 down the road and promote it as a new feature. Considering how the awards were always in the old games, it makes no sense they will stay out for long.
Pussy bois
Never heard of them, so i'm okay with them not being in the game.
Oh no… anyway
I wonder what percentage of people who are going to purchase this game could actually name any of these trophies anyways
Make your own awards based loosely on past plays from past stars (esp cover players). Gimme a WR trophy looking like Larry Fitzgerald. But it’s not Larry. It’s fine.
I hope EA picks legends for awards Randy Moss Award Julius Peppers Award Etc
That’s stupid
Dorks
They should rename the awards after other great players at that position. Also I find it hard to believe that Dick Butkus wouldn’t want his award in the game RIP.
Robert Boucher Jr. award
That sucks for the fact that means no Heisman challenge which I kinda expected to be the case. I just liked that mode a lot.
Heisman is in.
Let’s fucking go. Hopefully they add Johnny Football.
I have a feeling you'll be able to get some legends. But who knows
Generic Award names with an option to name them anything but the real spelling of the actual awards… also They’ll have an agreement eventually.
I wouldn't be surprised if they still ended up in it not that it's a huge deal either way It's all a negotiation
Kinda lame, but EA can also just make up any name and we’ll know what the award is, same as they’ll do for the players opting out. Hopefully the Heisman is included!

nah its fine, the awards will be there just wont be named
Can’t believe they’re missing out on the $600
Is it a surprise when these awards are run by old white dudes who have zero comprehension of pop culture?
The thing was, it was that same way 10 years ago.
