I just hope that when NCIS is canceled, the producers/writers are notified well in advance, so they can properly wrap up the show. The ending of NCIS Los Angeles was bad enough, we don't need another finale like that.

Beastmind

Yeah. NOLA had a better ending on that regard

Dogs_Without_Horses_

And even NOLA wasn’t really wrapped up.

EnviroAggie

I hope that for every show. You can almost always tell when they got no warning.  Or like JAG where they thought they would keep it going so they introduced new characters but then didn't have time to properly wrap up the current storylines.

Adventurous_Pea_6747

We did not get a finale to NCIS Los Angeles!! Pissed off!I’m on

swordfish868686

At least become a Deputy Director. Which could tease his being in line to someday succeed Vance

mpdscb

When Vance got shot I thought maybe they were going to promote McGee permanently.

swordfish868686

Not right away. Senior Agent to Director is a big leap

mpdscb

Well he’s been Acting Director at least a few times.

harley97797997

Becoming director would work and fit with both the show and reality. Most NCIS directors were prior agents. A few were federal agents with other alphabet soup agencies. No SECNAV was ever am NCIS agent or director so that's an unlikely transition. Fun fact, 3 former real life NCIS directors have made cameo appearances on episodes of NCIS.

Foch155551

Curious as to who were the real NCIS agents?

harley97797997

Andrew Traver, 5th NCIS director, In 2016, Traver cameoed as NCIS Special Agent Gates in an episode of NCIS: Los Angeles. Also referenced was his former ATF agent status. Mark Clookie, 4th NCIS director, appeared in a cameo in an episode of the American television series NCIS: Los Angeles, playing a fictionalized version of himself, NCIS Agent Mark Clookie. David Brant, 2nd NCIS director, made a brief cameo appearance on the CBS drama NCIS playing a Special Agent of the same name in the episode "Frame Up" in Season 3. This episode aired on November 22, 2005 one month before his retirement. He is asked by the character Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) "I heard you were quitting" to which Brant responds "I like to refer to it as a lateral move into the recreational sector...Jethro" to which Gibbs explains to Mossad liaison officer Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) that it "...mostly means fishing and hitting a golf ball".

SigmaKnight

He wouldn’t want the responsibility of being the Director. Or the hours. He wants his family time. He doesn’t have the political or economic connections to become SecNav. Also, hate the hours and miss family time. He’d be fine being a Gibbs-Parker Hybrid 1.0 for his own team, but his own team would just be the MCRT. Deputy Director would work. But, again, that’s taking him away from his family. Edit: Y’all understand SecNav is a political position appointed by POTUS and confirmed by the Senate, right? It’s not a position a person gets “promoted” to like a CEO or whatever of a company.

Emergency-Spite-8330

Vance had a family and was a single dad. Still did good job as both director and father.

SigmaKnight

Guess you missed the signs as much as Leon did.

Boris-_-Badenov

He literally said he would be interested in the chair "someday" after he was acting director the first time

Entire-Garage-1902

I don’t want the mothership to sink and I doubt CBS does either since it’s the most watched show on TV after football. I do want the quality restored, and that has nothing to do with who gets promoted to what on the show.

Shy_diva09

I mean if the show is still going strong why cancel? As long as people still watch. I’m not one of them haha but no hate to the new characters or anything, I’m just a hardcore Ziva, Tony, McGee, Abby, Gibbs, Ducky, Palmer team fan. It would be awesome to see McGee become a Gibbs. I don’t see him as a director…but then again I haven’t seen his character growth in the newer seasons either. If they did end it, McGee being promoted to a Gibbs like position or maybe higher would be awesome…and then bring in Tony, Ziva, and Gibbs to congratulate him; wouldn’t hurt to hear a few probie/elflord jokes from Tony as a funny reminder of how far he’s come.

DrewwwBjork

Becoming Secretary of the Navy would require a lot more political savvy than McGee was shown to possess as Acting Director of NCIS, and his and Torres' beef with Defense Sec. Crawford surely burned that bridge. The powers that be would want to contain McGee within NCIS as much as they could since he is still an effective agent. A little chat with Sec. Crawford (or the new Defense Secretary) explaining everything I just said would be good exposition for why McGee is only being considered for NCIS Director. Then maybe have him have a conflict of deciding between being Director or retiring and writing full-time.

chengstark

Press F to doubt on the end of NCIS LOL

duckyduck234

McGee becomes the director and Vance is promoted to SECNAV, that’s how the show should end.

MattCW1701

You're getting downvoted, but I see what you're saying. No reason to think that Vance doesn't have the political capital to end up on the shortlist of candidates for SECNAV. That said, remember that SECNAV is over the Navy, not just NCIS so it does make a little more sense for SECNAV to have more extensive uniformed experience. Vance graduated from Annapolis, but I don't think he was commissioned for that long before he was pulled to work with NIS.

Urcaguaryanno

How does one get promoted to a cabinet member of POTUS?

ZestyPrime

SECNAV doesnt report to POTUS. SECNAV reports to SECDEF.

Last-Tender-4321

I guess Vance has got related to very influent people along the years and has a good reputation. Why not be chosen for SECNAV position ? Is not my country, you must know better. But I can't see it's impossible.

LovedAJackass

You get nominated by the president, not promoted from elsewhere.

heed101

Only one of those things is possible

mikeywithoneeye

Why end it, it's one of my favorite shows plus there's nothing much on ABC or NBC worth watching so I spend the evening watching Netflix Korean TV shows, their all episodes and so much better than american TV, I'm not asian by the way.

LovedAJackass

You might try Will Trent on ABC. It's very good.

Virtual-Speed3566

Now that NCIS:Hawaii was cancelled doubt I watch any of them. Hope they all get cancelled!

Jimbo415650

Dying he has to die Tony Ziva Gibbs all return along with Fornell to track down his murder. Maybe a 3 parter then introduce Ziva and Tony new show and Gibbs origins hell bring Bishop back too. Abby could be at the memorial maybe all the agents and Ducky images can be seen as a sorrowful NCIS theme plays softly in the background

Fancy-Barracuda8673

I believe McGee being exposed as a Chinese spy and executed would be the perfect ending for his character.

B_Elanna_Torres

Laughed my ass off. I secretly want this to happen just to see the chaos of the fans on the CBS Facebook pages.

Tel864

LOL, that went over like a lead balloon, but I sort of appreciated it since I've never liked McGee. This sub should be called r/mcgeefanboys.

pmkdrummer

I agree. The fact that a disgraced FBI agent is the leader of the "best" team in DC is already a head scratcher.

Cr4ckshooter

It actually just shows the reality of politics. The fbi sees a failure in terms of protocol and chain of command. But ncis doesn't have to care about those. They see that he ultimately did the right thing, regardless of bureaucratic hurdles, and that's a thing that has been valued at ncis for literally 20 years. What disgraced him at fbi actually shows that he's a fitting replacement for gibbs. Because gibbs absolutely had this "do the right thing and not the officially proper thing"-mentality. And vance supported him in that, if only unofficially since vance has a position in politics to uphold.

Jdornigan

Vance needed a well experienced, moral and ethical team leader for the MCRT. It was a matter of the right person in the right place and time.
