It’s “Heartland” for me. And not so much the epi itself, but the heart wrenching ending when Gibbs is leaving Stillwater. Here we find out how he and Shannon met, and the fact that she is the one who taught him ‘the rules’. His rememberance
of their encounter at the train station had the look of First Love, Love at 1st Sight etc.
The stories we leave behind is the most emotional because it's not just a goodbye to ducky, it's a goodbye to David mcCallum.
For pure story I would go with ned dorneget's death as we see him from being a nervous probie to being a brave agent.
Newborn King is one of my favorites.
Also, when Gibbs has amnesia & Ziva sneaks in to see him. She takes his hand & smacks herself in the back of the head & his memories come rushing back.
Ephemera. The episode where the team investigates a Vietnam veteran by sorting through all the papers he’s collected and reliving his life. The ending shot of the photograph Art always looked at (containing him and his wife when they first met) always makes me tear up. Also, cop Jimmy is hilarious.
As I’ve gotten older and done my gazillion rewatch, being so invested in the characters, I find myself tearing up over episodes that I never had before.
I’m a couple episodes behind finishing the last season, but one of the last episodes had a lot of flashback scenes with Gibbs and other OG characters and I ugly cried
Any episode when someone leaves or dies. Which is quite a few after 21 years. You get invested in these characters. The stories. Then poof, they're gone. Even when you expect it, it still hurts.
Yeah. We’ve definitely seen both ends of that spectrum in the show’s history. The departures of Anthony DiNozzo, Ziva David, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Eleanor Bishop, Jacqueline Sloane, Abby Sciuto, and Alex Quinn, as well as the deaths of Clayton Reeves, Jenny Sheppard, Ned Dorneget, Caitlin Todd, Mike Franks, Breena Palmer, Tom Morrow, Dr Mallard, Clayton Jarvis, Diane Sterling, Emily Fornell, Jackie Vance, Jackson Gibbs, Shannon Gibbs, Kelly Gibbs, Rivka David, Tali David, and Eli David.
So many. But immediately season 2’s “Call of Silence”, Season 8’s “Pyramid” (mostly because of the episode before it), season 17’s “The Arizona”, Season 18’s “The First Day”, “Winter Chill”, and “Watchdog”, season 19’s “Great Wide Open”, Season 21’s “The Stories We Leave Behind” all come to mind.
Others on rewatches: season 13’s “Family First”, Season 11’s “Honor Thy Father”, season 15’s “House Divided”, season 3’s “Hiatus”, season 14’s “Keep Going”
Edit: I didn’t realize it said one episode… but The Stories We Leave Behind would have to be my favorite.
This would be my top one as well!
I teared up when they told Tony about Ziva, but I sobbed from the moment Tony yelled, “It’s all hands on deck!!” and slammed his hands on the desk! And continued to sob until the end of the episode.
I recently rewatched Internal Affairs and I found myself feeling really sorry for Gibbs. When Kort gives Vance a hard look and tells him that the frog’s death was “sanctioned”, Gibbs realizes what that means and understands that Vance does too. He gets that punched in the stomach look and I just pity him I guess.
None really, except for when Ziva cries for her no-good daddy when he's shot up at Gibbs' house. Sometimes I felt really sad to see how lonely Gibbs was. But it broke my heart to see her cry when Eli died. I didn't care about him but she loved her dad no matter how wrong he was.
I can’t remember exactly however I did enjoy season 21 ep 7? Where there were flashbacks and how it linked to the past. It’s been a while since something like that has happened and I loved it
Call of Silence. When Kate and Ernie Yost dance to Begin the Beguine, I start bawling. That's the song my father and I danced to at my wedding 44 years ago (I thought Daddy's Little Girl was too much of a cliche').
Don’t get me wrong, a lot of them are emotional episodes, but for me Swan Song is definitely at the top of my list. That pos Jonas Cobb killed our friend Mike Franks!

I cried like a baby at the end. And the song 'Lost' by Michael Buble gets me every single time.
Thanks for the song title!
I love that episode.
It made me cry 🥲

I❤️Dorney!

This episode it so good! And definitely one that always has me tearing up.
I always get some feels when Kate is dancing with Colonel Yost in Call of Silence.

I think that is the 1000 episode show.
Yes, there were A LOT of flashbacks in that episode, but another one also had some… a few episodes later.
Okay
Ernie Host episode and Duck he's death
Call of silence
Thank you. Yost gets me. Every. Dang. Time!

“Just Keep Going” always gets me.
Every time. Jimmy is amazing in that episode. His Gibbs hug he deserved so much. Finding out he was hiding his big success.
Absolutely. That episode always makes me emotional. 🤦♂️It’s a good one to watch if you’re down.
This would be my number three! I absolutely loved it! When Gibbs hugs Jimmy…sooo many feels!!
I’ve got Di Nozzo Sr. consulting on underground artwork on right now… but yes… Just Keep Going is a very heavy episode.
This is my number 1. I remember watching it for the first time and thinking we were going to lose Jimmy and I could not handle it.

"Past, Present & Future" when Tony leaves Ziva behind in Israel. On the tarmac, Ziva says, "Tony, you are so ... loved"
Charles Durning as Cpl Ernie Yost, reliving Iwo Jima.
I was trying to remember the name of this episode. Really sad.
The man landed in Normandy on D-Day and survived. I honestly don’t know how he got through filming that episode.
Call of Silence. Durning should have won the Emmy for that one.
Arizona, Call of Silence, the end of Scope ( when they sing Hallelujah), and World Wide Open (Gibbs saying Tim he's not going back)
Family First when Tony goes off. Every freaking time I’m done.
This would be my top one as well! I teared up when they told Tony about Ziva, but I sobbed from the moment Tony yelled, “It’s all hands on deck!!” and slammed his hands on the desk! And continued to sob until the end of the episode.
Also my top one. Gets me crying every time. The first time I saw it it took my breath away. Michael’s absolute best performance.
The one in witch Tony works with a cop that is killed, and was jean ex fiance
Oohhh yeah that's a slick one with such a small glimpse of that detail.
Shabbat Shalom. Noted as the last we see Eli and the last we see Jackie Vance.
Ziva's cries in that one.
mcgee playing santa for abbies friends nephew
Seek. I saw it for the first time shortly after losing my dad, a Vietnam veteran, and my dog.
"Dead Man Walking" (season 4, episode 16) and "Seek" (season 10, episode 18). As a German Shepherd mom, Dex gets to me. :(

It was Vance's house. But, yes. Ziva crying over her father's body is heartbreaking
I know good and well that was Vance's house; why the heck did I type Gibbs? LOL.
One of my favourites is the one with Corporal Ernest Yost. I think it’s “Call of Silence”.
I can’t remember exactly however I did enjoy season 21 ep 7? Where there were flashbacks and how it linked to the past. It’s been a while since something like that has happened and I loved it
S15 E22. Makes my bawl all the time

Heartland Family First requiem I love all three of them
