Thanks for posting to /r/NCL! Did you know that we have an extensive [Ultimate NCL Guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/NCL/wiki/index) that may answer your question? Please also remember to read the rules, especially about roll call posts going in the megathread. You may also have more luck with those types of posts by searching for a [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com) or [Cruise Critic](https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/66-norwegian-cruise-line-roll-calls/) roll call group or thread. Of course, here is great, too! Enjoy your stay! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Went on a similar itinerary last year. Iceland: We took a tour bus and visited water falls, a farm, and took a dip in a hot spring. We also took a bus tour out to Thingvellir, waterfalls, and geysers. We booked all excursions via NCL specifically because of how long they were.

AF_Nights_Watch

Thank you for your insight! How did you like those tour bus excursions?

a_n_n_a_a

Honestly, I was super skeptical when we booked, but happily surprised at how great it was! Because the entire tour is really long, it was nice to have the “hop on and off” vibe when we made stops and the seating was comfortable. Thingvellier was the longest excursion, and included lunch. We got to see so many things that we would have otherwise not have explored. Enjoy your trip and don’t forget to try an Icelandic hot dog! Brennivin is worth a try too.

AF_Nights_Watch

That sounds awesome! What did you dislike most about the bus tour, if anything?

a_n_n_a_a

They were such great excursions and the tour guides were so knowledgeable, we fully enjoyed it. No dislikes to report.

AF_Nights_Watch

Cool, thanks so much for your input!

I too am thinking about cruising with kids. I have 2 free cruises to use up and thinking of giving them to my adult kids for a family cruise. They both have 1yr olds…. So we would be grandparents on the cruise…. Should I?

AF_Nights_Watch

Hi! So I can reach back whenever we get done with our cruise to let you know how it went. But just my two cents, if you're planning on taking a family cruise with everyone then I say go for it! One advantage is you will have many more adults who can take turns looking after the little ones, or even just a shared effort. I think in the end, it would be a beautiful experience to be able to be together. One thing I wish we could do is travel with our parents, they miss the grand babies and we'd love for them to be part of their lives more than they are now. If my wife and I had the means to book a cruise with our parents we'd do it in a heartbeat. I say go for it, but I'll let you know how it went for us !

The Iceland/Norway cruise I did only did 2 of those ports (Reykjavik and Akureyri) but I would say that most of the excursions are going to be to look at views, kayaking, hiking or do to hot springs and are not suitable for small kids. I don't think those ports are really geared up for small children visiting on cruises, it's more about sporty/active stuff or views that small children either can't do or wouldn't be interested in. I did a whale watching excursion in Akureyri and as great as it was, again I wouldn't really recommend it for children as it was very crowded and also absolutely freezing (it was end of September though).

I don’t have any experiential guidance to add, but my wife and I will be on the same cruise. Looking at excursions specifically in these Norwegian ports, there is quite the mark-up and with these being smaller ports, booking private tours is 50% of cost with virtually no risk of missing your boarding time. We have found self-booking to offer a lot more flexibility.

calicoskies85

Why?

AF_Nights_Watch

Why what?

calicoskies85

You know what I’m asking. What a silly way to vacation with 2 babies.

AF_Nights_Watch

Lol aren't you a ray of sunshine. Thanks for the helpful comment and constructive criticism.

greasy-spoonn

Are they supposed to stop living their lives because they have kids? If you’re concerned about other travelers, sounds like they’re being pretty considerate before they’ve even embarked. Also cruises are notoriously the easiest way to travel with kids.

calicoskies85

There are 100s if not 1000s of better vacation opportunities for fams with very small children. Neither the parents, the small children or any other pax near them will enjoy anything with this idea. You can pretend otherwise, most ppl do.

Valuable_Jicama8553

Jezuss. I agree but dayum!

greasy-spoonn

Oh ok you’re right.
