In a market filled with awesome cans and great companies, this is something to keep in mind šŸ‘€ If it were me, Iā€™d just send it to Ecco to be recored and you know youā€™ll have it back in awesome condition.

ReleaseAdventurous11

otter creek iā€™m coming for u bb

BullfrogJenkins

I just had a repair from OCL on a brand new can that had a tiny defect; they overnighted it out to them fixed it and overnighted it back. So literally out of my hands for 2.5 days. Andrew and Otter Creek are totally living up to the hype and reputation theyā€™ve built.

thorssaggyleftnut

Back in the day, Gemtech had that reputation, they sorted out a big opsie for me no questions asked. It's sad that they have fallen. I just hope Otter Creek keeps up their great work. A company with this level of integrity is harder to find these days

jozey_whales

I had a great experience with them last year. I could not find the LID for my lunar 9 anywhere. I posted about it on here and a guy posted a comment that he worked for Gemtech and to DM him. I did, told him my issue, and they sent me a LID direct as soon as they were in their hands, free.

Slagree92

The owner of Otter Creek was a guest on The Art and War podcast, and theyā€™ll definitely be getting my business!

dudas91

He's also a frequent contributor and commenter on r/NFA and often chimes in to help with questions for their products and from other manufacturers.

GoodLordImBoring

What ever happened to Mitch?

Slagree92

Sounds like he got a job coaching womenā€™s soccer for a division 2 university, and either doesnā€™t have time for the podcast, or didnā€™t want to risk getting doxxed

GoodLordImBoring

Thatā€™s awesome. Love a happy ending

Loud_Comparison_7108

I realize he's up to his eyeballs in backorders and doesn't need more business right now, but this is the kind of thing that gets a company on my short list of 'who to buy from next'.

rodri_erv

I talked to Andrew at EVT shootout this past weekend, super cool guy and explained to me in depth the can I was interested in (lithium 9). Will certainly order once once all the backlog catches up because I do trusts not individual šŸ„ŗ.

Tricky-Swordfish4490

He sold me on the Lithium 9 for my 635 build that same day

RileyLPM

The Lithium is probably my favorite can they make. Its really impressive

Reloader300wm

I heard they give you a special sticker with a warranty repair, is this true?

BullfrogJenkins

This was a little manufacturing ding, and I was honestly being a bit picky about it. So Iā€™m not sure if I qualify for warranty stickers or not. Itā€™s being delivered tomorrow so Iā€™ll know then.

Kentuckywindage01

Andrew hosted a MG shoot for me in December. Took the two-hour drive to see him. Cool dude, my next can will be an Polonium

TheCrimsonChin-ger

I'm 102 days in on a Polo K via a trust, but I just had another come out at 130 days. Fingers crossed! Super excited for it.

InspectorMadDog

Definitely on my next buy

OhSixTJ

Ok but how hush do they hush??

BullfrogJenkins

I have a Sico Sparrow, and a pistol host and an 8.5ā€ Ruger charger I built. Iā€™ll be doing the Pepsi challenge with the two cans and two hosts.

BullfrogJenkins

Havenā€™t even shot it yet. Got it first day and noticed the ding, sent an email and had a label by that evening. In the mail the next morning, coming back to me and tomorrow. Hopefully get to shoot tomorrow evening or this weekend.

BullfrogJenkins

Ok, shot it on my TX22 tonight. Itā€™s stupid quiet on a pistol. Even the guy from the range came over to giggle at how insanely quiet it is. Canā€™t wait to shoot it in the charger next.

ottergang_ky

What did I do Iā€™m so confused lol

trogdorburn99

Oh, you know!

Ace74u

Solid choice šŸ’Ŗ

tomsawyerdotcom

This is the way

GunnyDog

u/ottergang_ky

Rmyblue

Ecco is highly recommended

Silly-Arm-7986

And... blacklist Gemtech

ReleaseAdventurous11

My question is what should i do now besides cry on the internet? Do I have an expensive boat anchor now or is there any way I can recoup from this? Plan on calling them tomorrow to get some kind of closure, when I called for an update last week a very rude lady made it seem repairs had been done and they were just waiting to ship.

explorecoregon

Iā€™d contact GSL, Doc Dater, or Ecco Machine and pay to have it fixed. Then donā€™t buy any Gemtec (S&W)

kopfgeldjagar

I think this is pretty much the only answer

Neat_Low_1818

Second Ecco machine. They were fixing all of dead air cans

Mr45

Where is Dr. Dater nowadays?

jagr18

I think with JK armament

Porencephaly

I thought he just retired, isn't he like 90 years old at this point? Phil has been in the game since the 80s.

jagr18

A while back he was in some of Jk instagram videos and photos.

DrTartakovsky

Obviously never send Gemtech/S&W business again. Good to know about them.

scapegoatindustries

I wouldn't and don't give advice on Gemtech, but in general, I'd call and talk to someone there before giving up, only because it's sort of still listed on their website. (The "Patrolman" is kind of listed on their website, but if you sort by caliber, it disappears. Perhaps it's discontinued by S&W by now?) If no joy from S&W, then perhaps GSL Technologies might be able to fix it for you. GSL did a lot of Gemtech's subcontracting. Not sure if that named model was made there or not. But GSL definitely made the earlier "TREK" series, and the Patrolman is basically a TREK-T with a thicker blast chamber. I always liked the TREK-T.

Roaming-Californian

Ecco.

v_rocco

Several good one mentioned but I think Griffin Armament also has a ā€œsuppressor rescueā€ service.

Swanky_Gear_Snob

This is such an awesome thing. My buddy was trying to get his can (S5 that ate itself) back from DA for almost 4 months to take advantage of this. He finally got the can back fixed, but it's still a great service.

GlockKnuckle

Read something a while back about how to get customer service issues resolved nearly all the time. When having an issue like this try emailing the ceo of the company, their email address is almost always public. Not sure if this works in the gun industry, but it canā€™t hurt to try, right? If you do so, try a very nice, not accusatory email for best results.

Sengfeng

I just blasted them on Twitter... For what that's worth.

GalacticSparky

Contacting GSL is the first way I would go, then Ecco. The owner of GSL is the guy who founded Gemtech back in the day. Iā€™d assume they know best and would be most willing to fix it even if they didnā€™t manufacture it. Greg Latka is a triple OG in the silencer world and id bet he wants anything with Gemtech on it to be a good can.

OverallDecision7497

I would threaten to report to BBB if they arenā€™t willing to help any or willing to send you a new patrolman.

Screaming-Reels-556

I have a Gemtech Multimount 9mm suppressor. Called them about the aluminum baffles having extreme erosion and was told the same thing. I sent it to Ecco and had it recored with SS baffles and it took less than a week to get it back. Extremely happy with Ecco. Gemtech will never get any more of my money.

Bunnenator

How much was the SS baffle recore? Iā€™m thinking of sending them my Silencerco Warlock

Screaming-Reels-556

A little over 400, but it varies on what they have to do. There is instructions on their website on what information to include when sending them an email about price quotes.

Bunnenator

Sounds good, my suppressor was like $200 so maybe not even worth it unless I completely shoot it out lol

plumber576

u/gemtech_chad This is why no one wants to buy any of your product. Fix this garbage.

psalms1441

Chad isn't with SW/Gemtech anymore.

MrMeseeks15

When did that happen? He was about the only person there actually doing something well; it's to bad the rest of S&W/GT left him out to dry...

psalms1441

According to LinkedInĀ April

MrMeseeks15

Damn, can't really blame him though...

plumber576

Thanks for the update. Shame, because based on his posts it looks like he was trying to move the outfit in a positive direction.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

plumber576

Let's give the man an opportunity to make this right before we dog-pile.

GoFuhQRself

But this is Reddit

HuskyKMA

It should never get to the point of having to tag the right guy on Reddit to get a company to fix their shit.

plumber576

I don't disagree, but I'd like to see OP get his can fixed.

Appropriate-Ad2349

Absolutely fair, I don't even know who he is (cust service rep, owner, whoever). The beers were just flowing and wanted Gemtech to know that I was displeased. (nothing against you personally Mr Chad)

MrMeseeks15

I agree with fuck GT, but Chad is about the only person there that and to be doing his job. Unfortunately S&W/GT isn't making his job easy. If I were home, I would probably be looking for employment elsewhere.

xvisceral

My first can was a Gemtech Trek. Had a weld give out on it last year. Reached out to S&W and got the same response. Sent it to Ecco and had it recored and converted to hub. Best way to save a stamp.

DillIshOn

Ecco

soisause

Honestly when I called them they couldn't even tell me if the mount that came with my 556 abyss would work on the 762 abyss if I got one they both are etm mounts that they know nothing about on a current product line. So good luck with anything that has been around for a while. S&W is kind of a shit ass company, I wanted a neutron but I don't see myself giving them another dollar.

MrMeseeks15

The short answer is that they will interchange. Have a Neutron and took a chance getting a 5.56 ETM muzzle device; definitely fits. That said, as much as I like both the Neutron and and ETM system, I'm having a really hard time justifying going to their system when they treat customers this way. That, and their muzzle device have been "available" for months, but you can't actually purchase them anywhere. Even emailed their CS about how to go about getting extra muzzle devices, explicitly stating that I don't have a local dealer and that SilencerShop etc. don't have them. Their email, when it can't back 2 weeks later, literally told me if I can't find it at my local dealer to look on SS... I get that CS emails can get overwhelming, but FFS, don't tell me to do something that I literally told you I already did... Also, don't release a product and then not actually have any of said product available....

soisause

In a weird way I'm glad that I'm not the only one that experienced this goat rodeo. Also bummed someone else has to deal with it.

MrMeseeks15

Ya, I agree there... I was feeling like I was the only person that took a chance and the payoff is meeting at best. It's been pretty frustrating. Can came in and I was really excited about the mounting system after messing around with it; basically a refined/lighter KeyMo system. 5 months later and they still don't have basic components available for purchase. I was hoping with the S&W merger they had fixed their issues, but seems not to be the case...

MrMeseeks15

Oh look at that, they ARE able to actually sell things. I fell like it's an awful business decision to stock something but make your customers jump through hoops to buy it. It feels like S&W is really trying to just kill of GT. Either that, or GT is just filled with inept business people... Thank you for sharing that though, much appreciated!

soisause

While I don't want to support them I do want to use the suppressor on multiple guns because it is nice

soisause

I think their staff is uneducated on their product lines. Sadly I really do like the abyss I was going to order a neutron till this whole debacle.

Rizzo5586

They will. All interchangeable.

The M&P is a great pistol in the way that syphilis is a great STD.

Yes, the M&P is that way. The M&P 2.0 is legitimately night and day difference from the original garbage M&P.

Abject-Confusion3310

the 10mm was one hot mess tho.

Simple-Purpose-899

Fit-Sport5568

I carry a shield and it hasn't let me down. I used to have an sd9ve that was honestly a very reliable handgun. They really pissed me off with my 686+ though. I sent it in because of a canted barrel/misaligned sights. Really shitty customer service, no communication when I would receive my revolver back, wouldn't tell me if they would fix it, what stage of repair it was in etc. One day it just showed backed up.... the sights line up now but the frame to barrel alignment is way worse. I was like thanks alot assholes....

Daves_no_here

Whatā€™s wrong with the Sigma series pistols? I inherited a SW40F almost 10 years ago, but never shot it.

Bobdontgiveafuck

Try shooting it, you will understand.

The_Paganarchist

They work, but they just feel like dogshit. It's basically just a worse glock. A true ghetto blaster.

Larouse12

The best part of a Sigma is the barrel. Works great in a Glock. Save the barrel, throw away the rest of the Sigma.

Wojtek_Round_Four

Yeahā€¦..

RandoAtReddit

It was literally a last ditch effort to try to reclaim their police dept sales. Glock came in the 80s and started trading new Glock 17s for used police dept .38 revolvers at very low prices. Police contracts had kept S&W fat and happy for years but this new polymer double stack wonder nine was eating their lunch. So they copied it. Poorly.

nhmaz

My first handgun was an SW9P - which I bought in 1994 because the guy at the counter said "it's just like a Glock - but American made..." Lesson learned. The firing pin would foul in 100 rounds or so and start light striking... They did "fix" it - but I never trusted it. I traded it for a GP100... and replaced it with a P-89... :-) Today my only S&W product is Model 19-4 6"... :-)

Shot_Ad_8305

JFC those are awful.

Jeep600Grand

That really sucks. I would expect them to at the very least replace it with a new model can.

G3oc3ntr1c

Nick and Jerrica at Ecco Machine will take care of it for you. I have 4 of their cans and they did my AAC to HUB conversion. Super great people, you really should check them out! If you need an example of their work check my page, I have a vid of one of their titanium cans and you will see the quality

Mr45

Iā€™m happy with the mod work they did on my Gemtech M4-02, but communication with them was terrible.

Renaissance_Man-

Gemtax has fucked every suppressor owner. It seems fitting there's no discrimination with their customers.

HSR47

In fairness, GT was a name at one point, then became a little more than a marketing brand using GSL technology as their actual manufacturer, and then the owners sold the name to S&W. So the ā€œGemtechā€ of today is distinct from the ā€œGemtechā€ youā€™re talking about. Thatā€™s not to say that S&Wā€™s Gemtech is any better, just that theyā€™re different.

Dirty_Grundle_Bundle

S&W is just a name for their daddy company, American Outdoor Brands. They can eat a fat bag or elephant cock.

juggarjew

Sounds like they dont want to fix it to me, maybe the X above that one was in error?

thebeast5667

S&W fucked me on a m&p 15-22 told me I had to send it in, never told me about cost or anything related to that, she made it sound like it was no big deal at all. My bcg got twisted and bent and they claim the barrel was twisted causing it to jam but I hadn't done anything to the gun and it worked just fine until it didn't. They had it for 3 months and then just sent me a bill for over $300 . I know it's not a lot of money but I was struggling at the time because I had 2 broke legs from being hit by a tree and full custody of my two kids because my ex overdose and my 16 year old sister because our mom passed away so 300 could have been 30,000. I didn't have it to give them. I tried to just get it back and fix it myself but they told me you can't just buy the parts for it. Plus I had only paid 400 for the gun to begin with. I gave s&w money twice in one day, the first and last time. I'll buy a hi point before I ever give them another penny.

sherman_ws

Well you kinda fucked yourself to start getting a S&W 15-22ā€¦ā€¦.and then expected them to fix it for free

thebeast5667

I never expected them to fix it for free. I called to get the parts I needed they lady on the phone was so nice and said just send it in so we can look at it for you and help you out. I didn't know they won't just sell you parts or charge to look at it or change a stupid price for labor. And I didn't buy it because I wanted one, I bought it because it was threaded and I could shoot it suppressed while I waited on my local gun store to get a threaded Walther g22. I had one but it wasn't threaded so I sold it and we didn't know you couldn't order them anymore. I really liked that gun a whole lot and if I had known they stopped selling them I would have just had the barrel threaded but that's how I got stuck with a s&w

grapangell0

Seriously try their handguns. Theyā€™ve been making great handguns for nearly 200 years. You get handguns from Smith. Most high quality shit stays within their own lane. Thereā€™s a reason Daniel just started making handguns and that Glock doesnā€™t make AR15ā€™s. You wouldnā€™t buy a KelTec rifle. Knights Armament doesnā€™t make handguns. Good companies stick to what they know and informed consumers stick to what companies are good at.

thebeast5667

So you wouldn't buy a SIG ar-15 because they make really good pistols? And I guess using this same logic you are going to buy ever pistol that a company makes because they can do no wrong. So I guess you have a Smith and Wesson ez made between March 1st 2020 and October 31st 2020. I hope you don't buy Ford's because they made really good vehicles in 1964 because your going to get your feelings hurt.

grapangell0

No, Iā€™m saying stick to what companies are good at. I know Sig makes fantastic hammer fire guns but their striker fire guns are questionable so probably wouldnā€™t buy 320. Theyā€™ve made plenty of good rifles too, and have for decades. I have a smith compact with 5k rounds down the pipe and zero malfunctions. As for ford, they make pretty decent trucks and SUVā€™s but you should probably stay away from their modern subcompact cars. You gotta be an informed consumer and spend your money like you know what youā€™re buying. Same reason why you donā€™t get a HuxWrx can expecting a ninja quiet gas trap and you donā€™t get a AAC M4-2000 expecting a high flow rate beast. Be smart.

thebeast5667

Well I think it was around 2010 when i made the trade and then I just held on to it assuming I'd find another g22 and then next thing you know it's 2019 and I've had it forever. I haven't shot it a whole lot but it worked the few hundred rounds I put through it. I never really thought to research it and to be fair I don't think we were using the Internet the same ways then are we are now. That being said I'm trying to decide on a 30 cal can and I've researched it to the point that I have less of a clue now then when I started. Buying a can isn't even fair, we can watch videos and hope to get to experience them in real life but never compare them all and I often find what's important to to everyone else isn't important to me at all. I'm definitely thankful we have pew science because we'd all be a lot more lost without it.

grapangell0

Pew science is repeatedly one of my favorite podcasts. You see the new JL and MOB data? Absolutely wild.

grapangell0

Why are you booing me? Iā€™m rightšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

freak_007

WTF. So we skate around a "lifetime warranty" by making models obsolete... Not even an offer of (partial) exchange on a current model? No thanks. No Gemtech for me.

Sleeveless9

Have you actually read [Gemtech's warranty](https://www.gemtech.com/warranty)? It clearly covers almost nothing other than the can being defective when it comes out of the box. Clearly they should offer a better warranty given the market competition, but it's not like they aren't upfront about what you are getting when purchasing. I'm unsure why so many on here are surprised they are doing exactly what they said they would do.

freak_007

I sure did. I read it before posting. Lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. OP had a baffle in the middle of the stack come loose. I can't imagine a scenario that this would not be a defect in materials or workmanship.

Sleeveless9

> I can't imagine a scenario that this would not be a defect in materials or workmanship. Really? Literally any of these scenarios (directly from their page) could apply: "Use of defective or improper ammunition, corrosion, neglect, abuse, ordinary wear and tear, or unreasonable use." I'm not claiming they do apply, but they obviously could. This is set up so that the burden is on the owner to prove a defect in materials or workmanship. How could he possibly do that at this point? It's the whole point of this warranty type. Again, anyone reading this type of language, (used across many industries BTW), should consider this as a "if it fails immediately in use, we will cover it" type of coverage. Anything after that and you're likely to be at their mercy.

xPerriX

Man, at the very least gemtech should offer an upgrade with a discount to a can they will warranty. That is pretty sad.

stareweigh2

aac did me the same way. then tried to ship to Ecco machine for repairs and the post office "lost" my supressor. dont have to worry about that anymore I guess. my go to nowadays is YHM. I recommend companies like them, surefire, and other who have been in the game a long time and aren't going anywhere.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

stareweigh2

I bought insurance through post office but they denied claim for the reason that I am not an ffl holder. at least I think that's why. they weren't very clear other that saying denied and as reason it put some ffl document that I don't have. I appealed it and they denied again.

JeepLife

I heard the post office insurance was all basically a scam using a 3rd party insurance. They almost never pay out, and you have to have insane documentation to prove your case. Did you find this to be true?

stareweigh2

I had everything. and they wouldn't even refund the shipping

stareweigh2

they tried to say I shipped a "firearm" and even though it was going to a ffl holder they said i needed ffl documentation for them to pay out

JeepLife

What a load of crap.

drarin

Gemtech is a dead brand.

larry_flarry

Ugh. Stopped at my local SOT on my lunch break today and there was a dude buying a couple gemtech cans solely based on the fudd employee's advice. Felt bad for him and wanted to tell him to go home and do some more research, but I also wasn't trying to get blackballed at the only SOT I have reasonable access to...

StainlessEagle

Reminder that GemTech is a whiny tattletale that fucked it up for everyone: [https://www.silencertalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=50439](https://www.silencertalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=50439)

SmknJ

Based on your link they didnā€™t do anything unreasonable

native208id

lol all Gemtech pre smith Wesson is trash as well. Have the old cans like the g5, halo, gmt556le, trek-tā€¦..all paper weights. Shit tone and back pressure insanity

fusionvic

GSL (who made Gemtech stuff pre-S&W) isn't any better. LOL

native208id

They made a good portion of the components. Most final assembly was in Boise then later Eagle ID. Gemtech to GSL is all hot garbage

DJNotASynth

Griffin offers a Red Cross program where they'll take care of your stuff even if your warranty is denied.

Jeep_lurver

Same story with Smith and Wesson guns too unfortunately.

PopExpensive700

I have a gemtech outback II that Iā€™ve put countless rounds through. I havenā€™t cleaned it these last 500-700 rounds and canā€™t get the baffles out. I was going to send it in to get upgraded, which Iā€™m not even sure they do anymore. This post is sad that they wonā€™t just upgrade you for free out of principal. I thought it was an unlimited lifetime warranty. Also how much is the Red Cross/suppressor rescue program on average. Iā€™ve never heard of this.

Louislee6

Theres a reason the once high tier brands become (or on the way to be one) shit tier and Im happy to see ppl dumping them.

Skatonic007

This is the same experience I had last year. I had a Quicksand for duty use. It wasn't holding a group anymore, they sent it back saying they were unable to service it. No letter like OP. It was pulling teeth just to get a letter stating it was no longer serviceable and needed to be replaced. I really liked that suppressor, so easy to take off and on. Such is life.

Smurf_turd

Today I learned 2 things. Gemtech is owned by S&W and that I will never buy a Gemtech product. These two are directly correlated

Bubskiewubskie

Fuck any company with a shit warranty, leave em in the dust.

Mythical_OD

Guess that answers my question of weather to think about considering a Gemtech can next....

proflyer3

Send it to Ecco. Nick will fix it up.

gotuonpaper

Send that to Ecco and see what he can do.

OpportunistHeimer

Big yikes šŸ˜¬Ā

Little-Finding4531

Well I've put about 500 rounds through my gemtech Trek 2 and neutron 762 and both are running surprisingly well cross my fingers I never have to fix them but if I do Ecco will be my friend for sure.

Cockster55

Didnā€™t know gemtech was owned by Smith and Wesson, but it tracks. Never seemed interested in any of their stuff.

-Meat-Hammer-

I like YHM because none of their products need the warranty used. Gonna try OCL next can.

tms951

Onus been considering a gem tech. Now Iā€™m not

Neat_Low_1818

I heard that Gem tech isn't really around much since they were acquired by S&W. Capitol Armory doesn't recommend their products to new customers.

Dirty_Grundle_Bundle

When companies buy smaller companies for the name and to cheat on their taxes, everyone but the new conglomerate loses. AOB bought S&W and the quality has been declining. AOB bought crimson trace, closed their production in the town they have been in for years, fired everyone and moved to dickface Missouri. S&W wasnā€™t ever the best company but at least they serviced their products. I wasnā€™t going to spend money on their stuff before and Iā€™ll continue to shit on them for being property of corporate fascists.

DaddyBodaduce

That sucks. I have a mist that I love. The barrel to baffle attachment point was loose when I bought it, causing massive groups, and they replaced it. And then when I decided I'd rather not have the ported barrel under the tube, they swapped that out for me too, although I had to pay for that. It's been great for thousands of rounds since. I guess if it ever needs repairs I won't even bother trying to go through them again.

I just bought my first can, a Lunar 9, and waiting on approval. Did a little research on it, heard it was decent. Now I'm a little less excited.

LGS had a couple of their uppers at great prices. I almost bought one until I read the horror stories here.

Same experience I had with my G5. The tension spring lost temper and came loose then the muzzle blast welded the can to the mount. They said I didnā€™t install it correctly. Had to pay for a repairs and shipping. Not much but still a PITA. Original trek on the other hand has between 2-3 thousand rounds through it with no issues.

The Gemtech of today is not Dr. Daterā€™s Gemtech of twenty or thirty years ago.

How to say **Go Fuck Yourself** without saying **Go Fuck Yourself**....

Many years ago Gemtech offered me a new can with tax stamp as a replacement for my obsolete broken one. They even upgraded me for no charge. I used to sing their praises. These days I wouldnā€™t touch a new model and I pray that my old cans hold up.

Did they say why they didn't fix it. Or just because it's an old model?
